A decent rest area for Northbound I-475 travellers in Bibb County…read moreThis rest area is on I-475 northbound (the bypass around the west side of Macon). It is a decent stop for travelers going north on I-75. It was very easy to get off and back on the interstate, which I always appreciate. The layout is similar to other Georgia rest areas I've used along I-75 northbound. Car parking is right by the main road closest to the building, while truck parking is on the other side and the building and its land is sandwiched between them. There is a fair amount of trees and shade, and several covered picnic tables outside, which is nice if you want to stretch your legs or eat something. The building itself is clean and well-maintained. The restrooms were in good condition and the whole area seemed safe. It's not fancy, but it's a solid, functional stop when you need a break from driving. Compared to some of the other rest areas I've visited on I-75 northbound in Georgia, this one is about average, nothing special but definitely better than some of the older ones. It does its job well and provides a convenient place to stop for a comfort break. I would recommend this rest area to other travelers going north on I-75 through the Macon area when you need a quick, clean break from the road.

While I understand businesses may ask questions about service animals, the way this was handled was incredibly unprofessional. Krysta loudly questioned me in front of other customers and began reading questions from a paper about what tasks my dog performs. When I tried to explain that I have POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), she was dismissive and laughed, which was humiliating and embarrassing. Not all disabilities are visible. I felt singled out, judged, and treated with a lack of respect simply because I do not "look disabled." My dog was clearly identified as a service animal, and I even offered proof when questioned. What upset me most was not being asked a question, but the rude and public manner in which I was treated. No customer should be made to feel embarrassed because of a disability. Unfortunately, after this experience, I do not plan on returning.

This is where Love's Travel Shop comes into play. Situated just to the South of the I-75 bypass for Macon, there are plenty of gas pumps and lots of space to stretch your legs. The times that I have been the bathrooms have been clean and I've not had a problem. I've had the hotdogs here, and they were also fine, particularly since I was able to use the adjoining Subway's seating area to sit down and eat them in peace. The one thing to watch out for is the truck congestion... they are a major trucking stop, and getting in and out of the parking lot can be interesting with all of the trucks going in and out as well. Just be forewarned, take your time, and you will be fine.

I admit this location is pretty busy than most and they know this because they built an extra lot for parking. The extra lot was open less than two weeks then it was closed. Leaving drivers to park wherever they can again. They also marked an extra spacing as a firelane that wasn't marked before. Truck drivers operate by a DOT clock and have to go by it to determine when to shut down. So the employees at loves and the tow truck co underwood towing are using it to make money for underwood. They come while drivers are asleep and hook up to their trucks and threaten to tow them unless they pay cash of 550$ and tell them if they tow the truck away it's 1100$. This is a warning to all truck drivers because I know in this economy we don't have money to give away especially with fuel and tire prices that have risen.

There was apparently a malfunctioning vending machine back then that upset one guy that was there that claimed that the machine "stole his chocolate" as he then walked away screaming a rant in French over the phone. It had been 4 months since a cat named Pablo escaped his crate while at the rest stop on I-75 South just past the Rumble Rd exit where nothing existed but the lone BP Gas Station. A girl was moving across country with her 10 yr old cat when the unthinkable happened. He broke free from the car in a noisy truck stop. Hours went by and she was unable to find him. She finally had to leave the rest stop and her best friend behind. What a hallow empty crushing emotion I can only imagine. For no particular reason I was reading the Macon lost and found section of craiglist when I saw her post. I pondered how helpless she must have felt. I came to learn she had no children herself and Pablo was her "everything." I began putting up flyers and combing the rest stop for 3 straight nights. Another citizen was a step ahead of me with posters already up in many locations. One of my early stops was the BP gas station on Rumble Rd. Perhaps, Pablo would smell some biscuits or southern boiled peanuts and mozzie on over. The distance from the rest stop to the BP was really just a few miles if one is traveling through the woods. The rest stop offered no access roads beside the interstate itself. Nothing but danger and woods for 1-2 miles in either direction. 4 months went by without a single sighting. Then the 'deli girl" at the BP saw an unfamiliar cat and wondered if it could possibly be Pablo from the picture on the store window? She fed Pablo a few days until she was able to get close to enough to hold him. She and the crew checked his name tag and confirmed his identity. Then the call went out! (Pause) Soak that moment in for just a sec. The inward gasp of breath by Pablo's owner when she heard his name over the telephone. From despair to elation in an instant. Pablo's owner drove up right away and by the early morning hours Pablo was home and reports are, very happy to be reunited. Thanks BP!

I dislike potter potty's so I was relieved when I went to the restroom. The woman's restroom only has about 4 stalls so depending on when you go it might be a wait. They have plenty of parking free or reserved. The cashiers are super nice and welcoming. There are no showers yet so make sure to shower somewhere else if needed. I will definitely be visiting soon if I'm ever in the area again!!!!
