Since Macon is only 80 miles from downtown Atlanta, I often take Greyhound to visit family during…read morethe Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays. I've already written a review of the Atlanta Greyhound station, so it's about time I reviewed the one in Macon. I'm going to compare the two stations while being mindful of the fact that Atlanta is a much larger city. By comparison, Macon is about the same size as Savannah, GA but doesn't have the tourist attractions of Savannah. Due to its lack of tourism to boost the economy and its poor political leadership throughout the years, Macon is threadbare by comparison. Jobs have moved away and in the process, crime has risen. As a graduate of Southwest Macon High School, I have fond memories of being a teenager in Macon but the town has been going downhill for some time now. The Greyhound bus station is located in Macon's depressed downtown and is smaller than the one in Atlanta. It's a small room with a few vending machines, a front desk counter and some relatively clean restrooms (at least it was during the only time I ever used it there). Outside, there are several lanes for the buses to pull into and at the very front is a tiny parking lot. Within short walking distance is a Checker's, Zaxby's, Krystal, a gas station/convenience store and a restaurant that sells hot wings. There is also a motel called the Macon Scottish Inn nearby, though I wouldn't recommend staying there because it's one of the filthiest motels in town. There usually aren't any taxis waiting in front of the station but if you call the local Yellow Cab company (phone number 478-762-6464), a taxi will arrive to pick you up within five minutes. I prefer riding the bus from Atlanta to Macon as opposed to the other way around. The reason why is because when you ride Greyhound from Atlanta, the bus begins its route from the Atlanta station. But when you catch the bus in Macon going back to Atlanta, the bus begins its route in Florida and picks up passengers from all the stations in various cities along the way. So by the time it gets to Macon from Florida, the bus is packed and you end up having to shoehorn yourself into one of the few remaining seats (which from my experience is usually beside the stinky restroom, the congested old man, or the mother with the crying baby). The worst thing about the Macon station is, unlike Atlanta, the lobby isn't open 24 hours. The buses will still stop there after hours but the lobby area will be closed. If you're catching a bus then, you will have to wait outside until the bus arrives. No worries. You won't be alone. The city's homeless population that tends to congregate there at night will be more than happy to keep you company during your wait. If you've read my two-star review of Atlanta's Greyhound station, you're probably wondering why I'm rating Macon's station a three even though it's not open 24 hours and is smaller than Atlanta's station. I'm doing so because Atlanta is a major city that can do better. Macon doesn't have the same resources and is basically doing the best they can with what they have. Taking that into consideration, I'm rating it three stars.

I booked nearly a month in advance and up until the day of the wedding, the company had been responsive and I had received fairly high customer service. The company had charged me in weekly installments and by the day of our event, I had fully paid them. Then on the day of my own wedding, I get a text and then some calls from the driver around 2 pm (the bus was due at out house at 4:30) saying they had to cancel on us because of issues with the bus. I like to think of myself as a reasonable guy and I get that buses can break down. But to find out a few hours beforehand that they have no other options for us, and on my wedding day, was infuriating and super stressful. The company made no other offers, such as a smaller bus and I never received a call or apology from the owner after this fiasco. There was ice cold water, Kleenex at every seat and magazines in the seat back as well. There was an array of snacks which were so well presented. Everything was so organized. The car was immaculate and the seats are so comfortable! Mohammad could not have been more professional. He was engaging, kind, interesting, thoughtful, etc. He so kindly unloaded the car at the airport and lined them up so nicely! On our return, Skyline delivered another phenomenal experience, and Geraldo was the star of the day! After a 12 1/2‑hour international flight and a late arrival, he greeted us with the biggest smile and the most welcoming, upbeat energy. His friendliness was contagious -- exactly what we needed after such a long journey. The car was absolutely gorgeous and perfectly prepared. We had chilled bottled water, Kleenex at every seat, magazines, and a great assortment of snacks that were arranged so neatly it felt like stepping into a luxury lounge. The vehicle was spotless, incredibly comfortable, and spacious enough for all of us and our luggage. Geraldo was patient, gracious, and so thoughtful from start to finish. He handled our bags with care and made the entire ride feel smooth and relaxing. Skyline is lucky to have him -- he made our arrival home feel special. I will definitely recommend Skyline for anyone searching for the best airport transportation as well as transportation to sporting events, etc. There is absolutely no better way to get to the Atlanta airport or an event in metro Atlanta. The service was exceptional from the booking process (such exceptional communication) to the pricing, to the pick-up, to the ride, to the drop-off!! Skyline is absolutely amazing!!! We cannot recommend them enough. 5 out of 5 every time!

My flight was about a week away and I received a few texts just confirming the date and time they would arrive.
