Rest Area No. 14, Unadilla GA
    Bruce K.

Georgia does well with highway rest areas and this one is no exception. Located on I-75 between Macon and Valdosta, it has a tremendous amount of room for trucks. The entrance has one of the features I particularly appreciate when it's designed into highway rest stops - a sweeping curve and a 90 degree corner. This definitely helps to force drivers to slow down before they come into the parking area at highway speeds. Restrooms were clean. Vending machines were stocked. A more than decent stop. Went in around 8:45 am there was someone in there cleaning and it was very clean! That's what you want fresh and clean!

My dog and I have stopped here many times to eat our lunch and walk around. It is generally clean and there is plenty of parking. There is also a lot of green space to roam around with your dogs. They recently added more trees near the parking lot which is awesome for additional shade! The most recent time we stopped, last Sunday, the bathrooms were closed and I don't think I saw a single sign on the highway that said they were closed - so that was a bummer.

Most well maintained and cleanest rest stop I've yet to come across. The only downside was the abundance of nats but that's Florida for ya!

It's very easy to access with smooth on and off ramps, making it a stress-free break from the highway. Parking is thoughtfully organized: cars park closest to the main building near the highway, while trucks and vehicles with trailers have dedicated spaces on the other side. This layout keeps everything flowing smoothly and reduces congestion. The rest area has an open, airy design with a central breezeway. Restrooms are conveniently split -- men's on one side and women's on the other -- and were clean and well-maintained during our visit. Vending machines are located right in the breezeway for quick snacks and drinks. Outside, there are several covered picnic tables to the side of the main building, perfect for stretching your legs or enjoying a meal in nicer weather. Overall, this is a nice, functional rest area that provides travelers with everything needed for a quick, comfortable stop. It's clean, safe, and convenient -- exactly what you want when you're on the road. Whether you need a bathroom break, a place to walk the dog, or just a few minutes to relax, the Ashburn Northbound Rest Area delivers. Highly recommended for anyone traveling I-75 through Georgia.

However, the men's bathroom closer to the car parking area is always open as well as the one towards the truckers parking as well. So I always have my adult sons standing nearby to ensure safety especially when traveling at night or the wee hours of the morning.

While I understand businesses may ask questions about service animals, the way this was handled was incredibly unprofessional. Krysta loudly questioned me in front of other customers and began reading questions from a paper about what tasks my dog performs. When I tried to explain that I have POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome), she was dismissive and laughed, which was humiliating and embarrassing. Not all disabilities are visible. I felt singled out, judged, and treated with a lack of respect simply because I do not "look disabled." My dog was clearly identified as a service animal, and I even offered proof when questioned. What upset me most was not being asked a question, but the rude and public manner in which I was treated. No customer should be made to feel embarrassed because of a disability. Unfortunately, after this experience, I do not plan on returning.

It's a spacious area, good for throwing the ball and getting a couple of run-arounds in before your trip continues. The park is fenced in with a double-closed gate to be able to unleash your dog safely. There are places for the humans to sit too, and there are usually doggie waste bags available (although, if you're traveling with your dog... you probably have some!). The store is clean, as are the restrooms. And the gas prices are on par - you're not getting gouged which is refreshing, considering the super easy off/on location. It is a decent stop for travelers going north on I-75. It was very easy to get off and back on the interstate, which I always appreciate. The layout is similar to other Georgia rest areas I've used along I-75 northbound. Car parking is right by the main road closest to the building, while truck parking is on the other side and the building and its land is sandwiched between them. There is a fair amount of trees and shade, and several covered picnic tables outside, which is nice if you want to stretch your legs or eat something. The building itself is clean and well-maintained. The restrooms were in good condition and the whole area seemed safe. It's not fancy, but it's a solid, functional stop when you need a break from driving. Compared to some of the other rest areas I've visited on I-75 northbound in Georgia, this one is about average, nothing special but definitely better than some of the older ones. It does its job well and provides a convenient place to stop for a comfort break. I would recommend this rest area to other travelers going north on I-75 through the Macon area when you need a quick, clean break from the road.

Today we chose a table in a different spot since it was the first one we saw available. Adjacent to that table was a handicap ramp for you to reach the restroom area. Due to settling (I assume) there was a significant inference in height of the end of the ramp and the sidewalk it was connected to. Resulting in my Mother-in-law tripping on the unexpected lip of the sidewalk causing her to fall and nearly hit her head on the nearby concrete bench of the picnic table. While the ramp is much newer than the rest of the sidewalk and concrete picnic tables, it is old enough that there is no excuse that this DANGEROUS HAZARD is not marked to prevent similar and potentially more serious accidents! It was also disappointing that the vending machines were mostly empty of drinks other than sodas and water. On our next trip I might consider bypassing this location and stopping at the next one instead.
