A Thanksgiving week trip found us broken down along Interstate 75 while driving a Ford F250 Super…read moreDuty truck while pulling a 34 foot RV en route to Florida. Our original plan included a night reserved at the Hilton Garden Inn located in Tifton, GA. I had already checked in earlier that day on the Hilton App for our overnight stay. After breaking down and an exhausting time spent beside the Interstate we felt fortunate to locate the Hampton Inn located in Perry, GA. Honestly, a Knights Inn would have been an improvement over this Hampton location. CHECK IN Our experience began with the check-in experience. I could not reserve a room using the digital check-in since I was already checked into the HGI in Tifton. So, I walked into the lobby and up to the front desk where I waited roughly fifteen minutes for the desk clerk/night auditor to come out from the back office area. The desk clerk seemed to think we must be con artists or frauds since we did not have a reservation. Instead of listening to our situation, she needed to see ID and seemed hesitant to lease a room despite only have ten cars in the parking lot at 1:00 AM. I explained our situation but then was interrogated about how I intended to pay. I handed the clerk my Hilton Amex card along with my Hilton hHonors Diamond loyalty card. It was instantly made known that this particular Hampton property has no desire or use for loyal Hilton customers. I think at this point, I should have just walked out and gone to another area hotel since there are so many around. We finally got checked into a room and received a key card. I could tell that I really bothered them to take my $144.75 and they made sure to let us know we really were not welcome. ROOM: The room was older but it was clean and stocked. our room was Room 121 on the first floor. The rooms are older and in desperate need of a refurb. The door has large gaps on all four sides that allow the bright hallway lights to come inside the room, and there is constant noise from the ice machine across the hall and other guests. The outside parking lot lights also shine brightly into the room and the blinds are virtually useless in blocking the light. Highway noise and hall noise left us awake all night as we waited for the local Ford Dealership to open the next morning. CHECK OUT Our check out is the only place this Hampton Inn did not fail miserably. I was able to request and receive a late check out so that we could have time to get our truck into the service garage and pick up a rental car. We were also provided two bottles of cold water when we checked out. The day shift desk clerk did have some people skills and did not seem to hate her guests. Bottom Line, this Hampton Inn is a black mark on the Hilton brand. As a loyal years-long, Hilton customer my brand loyalty will remain with the Hilton brand, but if this had been a casual traveler instead of a traveler with thousands of Hilton experiences I probably would not return to any Hilton property.

The desk clerk was nice, our room was nice and the motel had some decent amenities. It had an exercise room (which I didn't use), free breakfast, and a beautiful pool (which I did use). I saw the pool, and it was a nice size, quite long and it kept on enticing me to get in. After I woke up, I did a bunch of laps. It was lovely. The room was clean, with two very comfortable queen size beds. There is also a liquor store right across from the motel, (no highway to cross to get there). So, if you want to get a bottle of spirits, it's very convenient. Enjoyed my stay and would come again.

We were able to use the stairs in and out of the hotel and you had to swipe your card to get into the building. Outside the back of the building were 2 colorful benches. I believe the entire hotel is smoke free. The area was really quiet and no people were hanging around outside considering it was near the interstate. Check was easy and hassle free. Thankfully the hotel is only 2 flights. The room was nice and clean. Nice comfortable bed. Clean bathroom. Our room the bathroom consisted of tub/shower and toilet. The sink was located outside the bathroom. If only hotels invested in more comfortable towels - they are so abrasive and rough. But now I travel with my own towels. The room consisted of decent size fridge, microwave, table with chair, sitting chair, alarm clock with 2 usb ports for device charging, 2 queen size beds and a closet. The rooms were cleaned every day. Breakfast - from 0630-0930. Great selection, individually wrapped pastries (like honey buns), muffins, bread, bagels, got food - sausage, eggs, biscuits and gravy, coffee, milk, 3 cereal options, individual variety packets of grits and oatmeal, fresh fruit - bananas and apples, waffle maker - mini waffles or the large waffles, syrup canister, fridge with yogurt and boiled eggs. The area was squeaky clean and never crowded. Overall the hotel stay was very pleasant and I would highly recommend it.

Rooms have no more carpet which is great ! The issue for most travelers is the "incidental" charges hold - $100. Having this hold in a hotel with no restaurant, no room service, no bar and no - incidentals means it is a money grab. Travelers have another $100 hold on cards they need to travel. Takes days for the credit card to put it back on - and for what? Can't order anything - so the hotel owner is trying to boost average daily balance and have cash extra day. (Or could be) Can't be a damage hold as no one will pay that and just do a chargeback - Then when issues arise with the returned money the hotel blames the bank. The credit card company - even a mistake where they "forgot" to replace it. And I've had it all happen in my travel days. If there have been issues with unruly guests in the past that led to holding extra money then who would want to stay if dangerous? No, the incidental charge holds needs to go. A 5 star rating for sure - except for the extra attention I need to do for making sure the money is returned. Hold or not - the money is gone from my account and can't use it.

The team here is always warm and welcoming, which makes check-in and every stay feel easy and pleasant. The layout of the property is straightforward, which we like, and the beds are incredibly cozy--honestly one of the highlights for us each time. The free breakfast is pretty solid, though we wouldn't mind seeing a few more hot selections on the menu. Our only real gripe is the lack of a microwave in the room. We tend to wind down with snacks or heat up leftovers, so it's a little inconvenient not having one. That said, having a mini fridge is a definite bonus and helps with storing drinks or cold items. All in all, it's been a consistently comfortable and enjoyable place to stay--and obviously we keep coming back for a reason!

My only complaint is that the morning of check out, I went to walk to my shower and I found a rather large roach on the floor alive. We had stayed the whole weekend and noticed nothing. I will not blame this on the hotel as people travel in and out, it could have come with someone for all I know and magically made it way to my room and I mean they aren't bulletproof in hotels. BREAKFAST AT La QUINTA: WHERE THE EGGS ARE COLD AND THE ATTITUDE IS EXTRA HOT…read more Apparently, La Quinta has appointed a self-proclaimed Director of Tong Management to oversee the scrambled eggs, whose primary qualification is being permanently pissed off before 8 a.m. Picture an elderly, grumpy breakfast attendant who acts like she's been personally victimized by every waffle iron in America. Her uniform says hospitality, but her face says she's one communal pair of tongs away from calling Homeland Security. God forbid you DON'T want to use TONGS to grab your breakfast muffin. You'd think you'd just committed an international war crime against the sausage links. Instead of understanding that some people would prefer not to touch the same greasy, food-covered utensils that 47 strangers have been fondling since sunrise, she decides to publicly chastise guests like she's the principal of a reform school for adults who just want a damn waffle. Ma'am, this is a La Quinta, not Buckingham Palace. You're guarding powdered eggs and discount bacon, not the Crown Jewels. Nobody came downstairs expecting a Michelin-starred culinary experience. We came for a free breakfast, a cup of coffee, and perhaps a moment of peace before getting back on the highway. You are not the breakfast police. You are the breakfast attendant. There is a difference. If someone wants to use a clean utensil, a separate serving spoon, or the ancient art of NOT sharing a pair of tongs with half the hotel, maybe let them enjoy their breakfast without the public execution. At this point, the waffles aren't the only thing getting roasted. La Quinta, please give this woman a vacation, a nap, and possibly a complimentary anger-management seminar. And for God's sake, buy another pair of tongs. Because nobody should have to endure a lecture from the Grinch of the Continental Breakfast.
