Reserve was truly a 10/10 experience from start to finish. We went with family and had the best night. From the bar experience and delicious cocktails to the service once we were seated, they absolutely nailed every detail. Also, a special shoutout to the banana pepper cocktail -- SO good and such a fun, unique option. We started with the tuna tartare and the bread, and trust me: get the bread. For dinner, we shared the tableside steak, with the sauce made right at our table by Chef Darian himself. Such a nice personal touch, and it was perfect for the four of us to share. We also split the rigatoni, mac and cheese, Brussels sprouts, and corn soufflé, and every single thing was delicious. And definitely save room for dessert. We had the passion fruit caramel tart and the corn cake with blueberry compote, and both were so unique and incredible. Honestly, we would go back just for the desserts alone. Even the little details stood out -- we loved the beautiful crystal glassware and the overall atmosphere. You can tell how much thought went into every part of the experience. Steak was excellent. We shared the brussel sprouts and there was way too much sauce on them that you could barely taste the sprouts. We took home leftovers. The containers were paper boxes in a paper bag. Needless to say things leaked through the bag. Had a wonderful experience at Reserve on a recent date night! Seating was quick, easy and friendly on a Friday night. We appreciate the accomadation as it was close to closing time. Ambiance was romantic and dark with soft lightening. The tables positioned had a lot of space from your neighbor which is always appreciated. On our table was the french onion soup, marinated beets, Steak frites, roasted carrots, lobster mac and cheese and the brulee'd cheesecake! We also ordered the brussel sprouts but they forgot to come out so we didn't try them but our table and bellies were full enough and as proud members of the clean plate club, not a bite was left behind. We were able to watch the desserts being made from our table, love this touch! Reserve is a wonderful addition to the Buffalo steakhouse scene and we even got to say hello to Chef Darian as our meal came to a close. Would not hesitate to come to Reserve again for a fancy date night out. The service was very good. We went to celebrate a birthday. We had a party of six. We were sat at a semi private space which was appreciated. We were able to converse without a lot of background noise. The dinner did not live up to expectations, especially for the prices. I ordered the caesar salad to start. I love Caesar salad but, this was not good. It had a dressing that tasted like it was from a bottle (think Ken's light vinaigrette Caesar dressing). I want a savory, garlicky, creamy Caesar dressing at a high end restaurant. There were no homemade croutons but a sprinkle of toasted bread crumbs. I ordered the steak au poivre for dinner. I ordered it medium. It came out dripping blood rare. It was not tender like a tenderloin should be. The brandy cream sauce was so salty that it was intolerable. I would have sent it back if I was not at a birthday celebration. The brussel sprouts also had a super salty coating! The truffle fries were overcooked crispy and I did not detect any truffle. Not impressed! One man at the table who tasted all of our steaks said, "I can make better at home." read more

WOW. Is Buffalo's newest steakhouse a delight? YES. Yes it is. A couple weeks ago I had dinner here on a Monday evening with my foodie friend and fellow Yelp extraordinaire, Ryan J., and I'm still blown away by what Chef Darian has created. After watching him win Next Level Chef and following his culinary journey, it was exciting to finally experience Reserve for myself. Buffalo should be incredibly proud to have a chef of this caliber investing in the city. And, when Yelp friends get together, we certainly don't hold back. We kicked things off with the house bread (Parker house rolls), tuna tartare, the crispy goat cheese salad, and I couldn't resist the French onion soup. Everything was excellent, but we were really just warming up. For our entrees, we both ordered the Classic Ribeye, cooked medium rare, topped with preserved truffle butter. Naturally, I had to add Chef Darian's award-winning Next Level Brandy Peppercorn Sauce, and wow... I completely understand why it's become his signature. The steak was beautifully cooked with an incredible crust. For the table, we shared the corn souffle. Yes, it's sweet but I loved it and I'd come back just for that. Despite being completely stuffed (and taking about half my steak home... yes, I ate it for breakfast the next morning), I still had room for dessert. Or maybe I just made room. The Creme Brulee Cheesecake was a friggin' delight - the perfect ending to an already incredible meal. Beyond the food, the dining room is gorgeous, service was patient and welcoming (shout out Casey M. For your professionalism and attention), and the complimentary valet parking was an underrated touch. I also love that Chef Darian - and his wife! - were present during service. Seeing the chef behind the vision interacting with guests adds something special to the experience. Yes, Reserve is pricey by Buffalo standards. But compared to high-end steakhouses in larger cities, I actually think it's a great value for the quality of the food, service, and overall experience. I would LOVE to return the next time I'm home. There are still so many dishes on the menu calling my name, and I could easily see Reserve becoming one of Buffalo's premier destinations for celebrations, date nights, or simply treating yourself. Great first time here at the new steakhouse in Larkinville! Moody, upscale vibes, good for a nice dinner or date night. We arrived a little early (taking advantage of the complimentary valet) and grabbed a drink at the bar while waiting for the rest of our table of 8. Rueben the bartender made us a tasty round of drinks. Once seated, our waitress Jillian took drink orders and walked us through the menu. She was fantastic throughout the evening - attentive and made good recommendations. Was impressed by the back-lit menus as well! For apps and sides that all of us split, we got the bread basket, oysters, arancini, tuna tartare, mashed potatoes, corn souffle, maple glazed carrots, and lobster mac & cheese. Out of everything, the corn souffle and bread basket were my favorites. For entrees, I ordered the NY Strip "on weck" and was very pleased with it. The sauce was delicious, and the steak was cooked perfectly. And to finish the night I split the tiramisu with my fiancé, and that happily fed my sweet tooth! Because there were 8 of us, they automatically added a 20% gratuity, and I didn't catch it so accidentally tipped double. Tonight I organized a birthday celebration for my mom. Complimentary valet parking is a really nice feature. My aunt & uncle recognized our server Barbara from a dining experience at another local establishment years ago. Peter made sure to keep our glasses full of water - and did his best to answer all our questions - even entertaining the ridiculous ones (like what is the ceiling material made of - the answer, Barbara found out for us, is stamped plastic). I felt like service was a touch slow, but being a party of 6, I suppose that's to be expected. Some of us ordered full meals (salad, entree, shared sides, and dessert with coffee) while others made their own meal of a few appetizers. I enjoyed the beet and citrus salad (though I wasn't much of a fan of the added mint leaves), a shrimp from my mom's shrimp cocktail (with a proper amount of horseradish added to the cocktail sauce), and seared scallops with corn, bacon, leeks and tomato. Not pictured, Parker House rolls & honey butter - as if you need more butter with the meal! But they were very much worth it. We shared sides of pommes puree (which we were told is a 2-to-1 ratio of butter to potato!!), brulee corn souffle, brussel sprouts, and maple glazed carrots. Everyone raved about the pommes puree. The brussel sprouts were hit/miss depending on the guest. I loved the hit of spice from the Calabrian glaze and didn't get much of miso brown butter, but my mom found the spice to be too much. I wanted to taste the maple glaze on the carrots but despite adding quite a bit from the serving dish to my plate, I wasn't getting any "maple feedback" and the consistency in cooking wasn't there. One carrot required a fork & knife while another was fork tender. The brulee corn souffle was tasty but as I had corn with my scallops, it was a double whammy. For dessert, I tasted the bruleed cheesecake (good) and chocolate espresso tart (GREAT), but enjoyed a full serving of pistachio gelato (also great, with mouthful after mouthful of real pistachio nuts) and coffee with cream. (One more edit - Meg made sure not only to call & confirm our reservation the day of but stopped by, in the midst of welcoming and seating other guests, to make sure that everything was to our liking. She's top-notch and an asset to the Reserve team.) As a party of 6, our gratuity was automatically added to the bill. The best part of our evening was meeting Chef Darian and his wife, Jessica. He had just finished a talk about opening Reserve nearby and was heading to enjoy date night. He was gracious to listen to us all and even took our recommendation for future reference of our favored Italian spot in Niagara Falls, Fortuna's. It's nearly 4 hours later and I'm still full. The service from Jillian was amazing, she was attentive, answered all of our questions and was very friendly for our table of 8. We ordered bread, arancini, oysters and tuna tartare for appetizers. The bread was sooooo delicious, the arancini were good, but kinda small. I'm not a seafood fan but everyone said the rest were great. I had the steak au poivre with the sauce on the side. The steak was perfectly medium rare and very well seasoned. I'm glad I had the sauce on the side, I wasn't a huge fan, but everyone else at the table tried it and enjoyed it. We shared a lot of apps. The mashed potatoes were delicious, the new maple carrots were just ok. I wish they were full carrots not chopped up and the rest of the table agreed. The star of the show was the corn. We were all obsessed, I could have it again right now for breakfast if we had extras. Each couple ordered dessert and we were all very happy. The cheesecake was amazing. I loved the round table of 8, we were all able to talk easily and the music and background noise wasn't too loud. The last time we went out with 6 it was impossible to hear each other. I would give it a solid 3.5 if I could, I wanted to like this place more but I think they still have work to do on the menu. The service is wonderful but the product needs to measure up to the price tag. We had a party of 4 friends. To start we had the bread which was really good, and then a few of us had French onion soup. I thought it was really tasty! The perfect amount of sweetness and the cheese was perfectly cooked and chewy. The mains and sides was where the problem was. The four of us split a $155 Tomahawk steak. If I'm paying that much for a steak at a steakhouse I expect it to be excellent. It was okay. I didn't feel it was super tender, and was more fatty than I expected. It said it was a 40 oz steak but didn't feel like one. The flavor was pretty bland to me, I like a well seasoned steak. The truffle butter that came with it was delicious though and I slathered that all over it. The sides were hit and miss. The mashed potatoes and corn soufflé were very good. The Brussels sprouts were pretty bland. The lobster Mac and cheese was the real disappointment. I love good lobster Mac and was excited. Unfortunately the texture was super gritty and I don't know if that's the cheese they use or what. It did have a lot of lobster, but for $25 for a small side portion I expected a lot more. The desserts were just okay. We had a cream brûlée cheesecake and the chocolate tart. Maybe it's supposed to be this way but the cheesecake was almost a melty texture, and it was good but didn't taste like cheesecake. The chocolate tart was really rich, and I liked the inside, but the outer shell was so hard I could barely cut it with my fork. The place is gorgeous inside and the staff are all great, but I think Chef Darian needs to have a look at the quality that his team is putting out for the price of some of the dishes. read more

I really want to give a high review and wanted to like this place! With that said, I'd like to rate 3.5 stars with the note that I'll likely be back to try again in a few months. I know they have only been open a couple weeks so there's a bit to iron out. Fair enough. We did see Chef Darien walking around in the kitchen from the view from our table so I'm sure he's actively assessing the food and operations. Party of two. It was easy to make online reservations. Although we didn't use it and parked on the street, they have complimentary valet. Staff was friendly. Properly greeted at the door and sat right away. The light up menus are a great touch especially when fancy places have dim lighting! We ordered a pop and a mocktail. Salads and bread came out rather quickly - before the drinks. Both the bread (4 rolls) and salads (goat cheese and caesar) were very tasty! Then there was a loooong lag time between the salads and the entree. The maître d' came over to apologize for the wait and explained it was only their 2nd week open. We appreciated the acknowledgment. We split the 45-day dry aged ribeye and 2 sides, lobster mac and fries. Steak was cooked perfectly. Sides were also good; I'd recommend both. Important note: the price on the online menu was different (cheaper) from the menu in the restaurant. This is wild to me especially since they just opened - make sure your menus match. We proceeded to order dessert - crème brûlée and chocolate espresso tart. They came out but instead of the tart, they brought tiramisu. Although it looked delicious, I wanted the chocolate. My partner and I started on the crème brûlée and it was solid - just what you'd expect. They ended up bringing my dessert, and they brought cheesecake! I was frustrated and finally said to not bother with the dessert and just take it off the bill. They did of course but I feel like something else should have been done. A comp'd drink or my partner's dessert should have been comp'd. That's what you do when you mess up multiple times. I was very disappointed. $300 later... I probably will go elsewhere for a steak dinner until they've had time to work out the kinks. I really hope they succeed! read more

I've been here twice so far. I'll be back. But they can up the game at this price point. The Brussels sprouts were meh at best. I would not order those again, and I'd resist the urge if I were you. You'll get better Brussels sprouts at The Caz. Sadly they were out of the carrots. I'd try them, they sound great. The goat cheese salad would be greatly improved with more apples, onions and walnuts and half the cheese. I'd order it again but plan to take some cheese home. The fries are good, but could be better, and the servings should be more generous. The scallops were great. The corn crème brûlée dish is very good but it's more like a dessert than a side. I'd eat it again, but I'd let any dining companions know it's a very sweet dish. The steakhouse ceaser was good. The French onion soup is a huge serving and very heavy. I wouldn't order this at this place, it's too heavy. The steak tartar itself is quite tasty, but the weird bread thing under it wasn't very good. Tasted stale sort of. If I order this again I'll ask for toast in the side and not that bread under it. The wagu burger was quite good, should come with fries. All in all my observation is the food is heavy. Overly so. Unnecessarily so. Half the goat cheese. Less French onion soup. Smaller serving of the corn. More generous in the salads. More fries. And for goodness sake, stop charging for bread at the table. Just bring it. Be generous in this, and less generous in the corn dish and goat cheese. Or maybe charge $4. But $10? Ludicrous. Sort out the reservation system, works sometimes and not other times. Weird. The place is huge and it's freezing. You'll need a scarf. No kidding. It's freezing. I've been in both the back and front rooms. The place that was here before had the same issue, they havnt put the ac in in a way that's comfortable to sit under. It's fixable. Take the time to fix it. The valet parking rocks. Had to try Chef's new restaurant. I didn't take pictures of the inside but the restaurant is beautiful and very relaxing. Plenty of room at the bar for seating I noticed. My husband ordered the smoked bourbon which he said was outstanding but only thing he would take away for a review would be they don't offer large ice cubes. In our opinion for fine dining with high quality prices you want large ice for rocks glass. Ordered the signature Peppercorn steak and although I don't know if I personally was a fan of that much peppercorns on it, the steak itself was delicious. Now let's talk about the corn soufflé. This by far was the best thing I've ever eaten in a long time. I will be eating this every time I go there. My husband's steak was super good, I definitely want to try the steak frites. Came for dinner about a month into them being open and have nothing but amazing things to say! We are not even huge steak people but being that we were here, we decided to opt for the 32oz tomahawk. It was superb - perfectly cooked, flavorful, and so tender. The bone itself was branded with the restaurant name which I thought was an amazing touch. We also opted for the ceviche and tuna tartar and both were so fresh and delicious. The goat cheese salad was also tasty. Our friends got the filet and salmon and loved their meals as well. TLDR: good steaks, bad sides, ok service, horrendous entry way, overpriced. Edit to add: apparently our friends who had the steak au poive both got sick that night... so I think it's only fair that I take another star off for that. Normally we steer clear of any new spots until several months later when they've worked out all the kinks, but our friends wanted to go so we checked it out last Friday (holiday weekend). The space was pretty, although the view out the windows weren't exactly great to look at (it's the building where Bratt's Hill is). Our server was friendly but a little weird - when I ordered I said "We (pointing at my husband) will split the dry aged rib eye", she said "what do you mean by that?" I didn't know how else to further explain that so I just said "just give him the rib eye and I'll have the goat cheese salad", which she happily obliged. But, WTH? Our friends got the steak Au poive and they both liked it, though felt it wasn't anything "special". Our dry aged rib eye was very good, though I'm not sure whether it was worth $130 with no sides. Speaking of sides, they had very little gluten free options and one of them (Brussel sprouts) sold out at 6pm on a Friday night. We got mashed potatoes x2 and creamed greens - all were so extremely salty even for the salt lovers of the group, we had to send the creamed greens back because even if it wasn't disgustingly salty, it just wasn't good. It was mostly béchamel and barely any greens. When I told the server about the saltiness of all the sides her immediate response was "we're still trying to figure things out since we just opened". I'm sorry, but for the prices you're charging in BUFFALO, these are not the kind of things you still need to figure out a couple of weeks after opening. The taste of food should never be "worked out" after you open. Drinks were very tiny in portion which I guess is the norm these days, but still annoying especially when everything else was blah. Now, onto the worst part... as we were leaving and standing in front of the entrance waiting for the valet to bring our car, we were all downwind from the huge kitchen exhaust right up front. None of us could breathe and we all stunk like all the food they were cooking. Needless to say, we will not be returning. We chose to celebrate at Reserve looking forward to Chef Darius and his expertise. Sadly our experience was not as we expected. The staff and ambiance were wonderful. The food, however was inconsistent. Two of us ordered Steak Frites. We asked for medium rare as recommended by our server. The steaks were well done, over salted rendering them nearly inedible. Furthermore the sauce was gelatinous and cold. The side dishes also disappointing. The corn fish was far too sweet and the Brussels sprouts were completely blackened. The pork chop and airline chicken were delicious. Dessert was also delicious. Overall we were very disappointed and will not return. read more

When we arrived we were ushered to the bar area to await our table. $45 for a coke, kettle one lemon drop and an Aperol spritz. The hospitality was amazing! Chef Darian waved to us from the service window at the bar. His wife Jessica even stopped over and chatted a bit. Just lovely. Once seated we started with the homemade bread, which was actually four soft pillowy rolls with a nice butter. Our table ordered 3 steak frites and one pork chop as our entrees. The pork chop came with the meat removed from the bone and I regret not taking a photo of the presentation. The sin-laws got a side of the pommes purée that looked tasty and they enjoyed them. All three of us were impressed by the large 12 oz. steak. We've never had the Teres Major cut and we all enjoyed it. The cafe de Paris butter was complex and perhaps had a tiny bit of spice to it? The fries fell a bit flat for me, as they were not crispy even though they were so nice and thin. As mentioned in other reviews the wait for non water refills was a bit long. When we asked as our water was replenished he ran and got the waitress. Perhaps allow the person who fills water to jot down drink requests as well to be more efficient? Maybe they are still finding their groove. I would come back to eat the deliciously generous steak frites at the bar and order my frites crispy with a glass of wine. In checking the price of my last steak frites $38 is the going rate and I prefer this cut. Thank you for a nice night out to celebrate my boyfriend's mother's birthday. read more

TLDR; they're not ready to serve the public yet. Nice looking space, servers are unprepared / not trained, product coming out of the kitchen is borderline unacceptable for this price point. Seems as though Chef Darian has no hand in anything operational, because I couldn't imagine he'd be happy with anything being served / level of service for a fine dining steakhouse. My wife and I dined here on a Saturday (2 weeks after opening, so our expectations were tempered, as places typically need more time to tie up loose ends and make necessary tweaks). Hostess was lovely, super welcoming, brought us to the bar, which was also a great experience with high quality cocktails to start. That's when the good experience ended, sadly. Drinks: Sat down, greeted by our server, was asked if we wanted anything to drink. We asked for a wine list and she said "you guys are the first to order a bottle, I'm not sure where a wine list is... I think we only have the paper stapled draft copy." We are very patient and understanding, so this was fine with us, we all got a good laugh. She brings it back, we order a bottle (wine list had a really good selection). She brings the wine bottle over but sets it on the table, unopened, for 10 minutes... I was about to open it myself. Again, not the level of service you'd expect from an upscale steakhouse, but we understood. Comes back with an opener finally and pours it up, little to no recognition of the wait. Small plates: ordered the bread (amazing), French onion (very good), and tuna "crudo" (bad). The "crudo" is more of a tartare prep, and it came out tasting like a complete salt bath; as if someone dumped a shaker of salt on top. We told the server it was basically inedible and she was apologetic and brought out a new one. That one was okay, but still pretty bland. Wouldn't order it again. We were already done with all of the small plates by the time our server took our order for mains, which was a bit odd because the menus took up so much room on the table, making it not so comfortable to eat the small plates because we had limited room. About 55 mins elapsed between ordering and receiving the steaks for our mains. Steaks: I got the NY Strip "Beef on Weck" and my wife for the Au Poivre. The flavor of the Strip was fine, but plating was a disaster, and was frankly, sad looking. It was supposed to come with horse radish foam, but all I got was one tiny little drop of foam on the side because I think it had melted away before arriving at the table. The au jus sauce was so thin it was splashing all around the bottom of the plate, so every time I went to cut the steak, even incredibly gently, the sauce flew all over the table and my clothes. My wife's Au Poivre had 0 flavor. Nothing. No shot it's Gordon Ramsey's favorite steak, as they tell everyone. The sides came out cold, and seemed like they were prepared the night before and just reheated. We told the server, she was apologetic, and took them off the bill which was nice. But they still weren't good enough to box up and take home. Unfortunately the place needs a lot of work, the staff needs a lot more training, I'm just hoping Chef Darian has more of a hand in the day to day operations than he has so far, especially with it being so early in the process. Too expensive to have this type of a bad experience. Wow. Reserve absolutely exceeded every expectation. From the moment we walked in, we were blown away by the atmosphere. It is moody, elegant, and beautifully designed, making it one of the most stunning new additions to Buffalo's dining scene. The service was phenomenal from start to finish. Mariam and Meg greeted us with such warmth and made us feel genuinely welcomed and appreciated. Our server, Pavan, was exceptional, keeping our drinks full, pacing each course perfectly, and making the entire experience feel effortless. Every member of the team contributed to one of the best dining experiences I've had in Buffalo. The food was unforgettable. Reserve Steakhouse by Chef Darian Bryan is, without question, one of the best dining experiences I've had in Buffalo. There were three of us, and we all started with the French onion soup. It was hands down the best French onion soup I've ever had. For our entrées, we ordered the chicken, the steak frites, and the steak au poivre. We shared all three dishes, and honestly, we couldn't pick a favorite because every single one was outstanding. The corn soufflé was absolutely to die for. The frites were perfectly crisp with just the right amount of seasoning, and the espresso martini was delicious. The service matched the incredible food. Our server, Dylan, and his assistant, Kody, were attentive, friendly, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the meal. Manager Jordan also stopped by to ensure everything was perfect, which really showed how much they care about their guests' experience. A huge congratulations to Chef Darian Bryan and his wife, Jessica, on creating such an incredible restaurant. They have a variety I had the classic ribeye cooked to perfection my wife and I shared a serving of delicious scallops on a bed of savory succotash excellent she also enjoyed Steak Aupoivre she was delighted my granddaughter had the salmon of which she enjoyed along with the oysters my son had the same steak as my wife every thing was delicious my has cheese cake topped with strawberries he said it was the best he ever had. We visited Reserve Steakhouse on the second Saturday after it opened. We chose it as a late anniversary celebration and kept our expectations level due to it just having opened the week prior. Unfortunately even with this mindset we were still greatly disappointed. When you first walk in the space is grand, beautiful, and warm. The staff is friendly and inviting, and the hostess happily invited us to the bar to enjoy a cocktail before being seated at our table. The bar itself is a great space, centrally located, and provided a nice start to the evening. We were seated in a timely manner and our server was very friendly as well as relatable. We were given champagne for our anniversary, a very nice gesture. The rolls and French onion were delicious. Unfortunately that's about where the compliments end. 1. We ordered a bottle of wine which took a lengthy time to arrive and was placed on our table unopened for about 10-15 minutes before our server came back. This was odd and uncomfortable. 2. The tuna "crudo" we ordered was actually a tuna tartare, and it was so salty it was inedible. The server took it back and replaced it with a new one which was much more palatable but still nothing special. 3. Our server took our entree order after we had eaten ALL of our appetizers, leading us to wait 55 minutes until entrees came out. 4. The corn soufflé as well as pomme puree were bland but most notably COLD to the touch, including the skillets they resided in. 5. The ($70) steaks were mediocre. The filet was cooked well but I found it overpowered by peppercorn, and the strip steak was supposed to be a riff on a "beef on weck" with horseradish foam which was actually a piece of steak sliding around in watery jus and foam which was scarce and already melted. 6. Service was unimpressive with long wait times as well as a noticeable absence due to how many other tables our server had to take care of. 7. We were also told that one of the chefs had "walked out of the kitchen" that night, which pretty much summed up our evening. Our bill was over $300, and the quality of food and service we received did not even deserve half of that amount. The space is big and bold but the flavors were mundane and repetitive. We were excited to see what our Buffalo next level chef had in store for us, but he wasn't even in the building. Cold food is never excusable and the service needs a lot of work. Second week jitters? Sure. Unfortunately with that kind of price tag, we likely won't be back. read more

The service was outstanding, and our server, Moe, was exceptional--friendly, attentive, and professional from start to finish. The Valley Pearl oysters were fresh and absolutely delicious. Unfortunately, the steaks were disappointing. The tomahawk was ordered medium-rare with no pink, but it arrived with no pink at all, closer to well done. To their credit, the restaurant refunded the steak, which we appreciated. My filet was ordered medium but also arrived with no pink, more like well done. It still had good flavor, but it wasn't cooked as requested. Both side dishes were served cold, which was another letdown. The restaurant wasn't busy during our visit, so we expected more consistency from the kitchen. Considering the size of the bill, the overall food quality simply didn't match the price. We truly wanted to love this place because Buffalo deserves great steakhouses, and hopefully these are just opening-week growing pains. read more

Very cool vibe with over the top service. The food was not as good as I expected. The appetizers were great we had oysters and a shrimp coctail. For the main course we had scallops and I had a steak. The scallops were so salty,almost uneatable (great sear though). My medium rare steak was beyond "well done", too bad because it looked like a great cut. I did mention that to our server and we promptly got a visit from the hostess/manager. She could not appologize enough and comped our beverages and offered to make a new steak for me, I declined. When you pay top dollar for a coctail and it is served in a plastic glass (albiet a nice one), that is a bit of a turn off for me. I was genuinely excited to try Reserve Steakhouse by Chef Darian, especially with all the hype surrounding its opening. Unfortunately, the experience was incredibly disappointing, especially considering the prices. My parents and I spent roughly $600 on dinner, and I walked away feeling like it wasn't even close to being worth it. The cocktails were decent, but inconsistent. The wine list was one of the biggest letdowns. I understand restaurants mark up wine, but the pricing here was excessive. A bottle that sells for around $18 at the liquor store was listed for nearly $80, and it wasn't even a high quality wine. It tasted harsh and unpleasant, making the markup even harder to justify. We started with the Parker House rolls, which were good, but the homemade honey butter was far too salty. The beet salad was probably the blandest dish of the night. The beets tasted like they came straight from a can and had been rinsed in water. The pickled onions barely tasted pickled, the goat cheese had almost no flavor, and the pistachios, orange, and mint didn't work together at all. It felt like ingredients were added simply for the sake of sounding upscale rather than creating a balanced dish. For my entrée, I ordered the ribeye cooked medium rare. It arrived closer to medium well and was cooked inconsistently throughout. On top of that, nearly half the steak was fat. It was advertised as prime, but based on the quality of the cut, I have a hard time believing that. My mom ordered the filet with peppercorn gravy. The filet itself was surprisingly tough and lacked the tenderness you would expect from a quality filet. The peppercorn gravy contained whole peppercorns instead of cracked pepper, making every bite overwhelmingly peppery. My mom literally picked around 40 whole peppercorns out of her teeth because they were like little rocks throughout the gravy. When you're serving a filet, the meat should be the star of the dish, not an overpowering gravy. I guess it didn't matter much in this case because the filet itself was one of the most disappointing cuts of meat we had all night. It also tasted like a basic brown gravy that completely overwhelmed the steak rather than complementing it. My dad ordered the pork rib chop cooked medium, but it arrived well done. It was topped with whole grain mustard that came across more like whole mustard seeds than a properly balanced sauce. Between picking peppercorns and mustard seeds out of our teeth, the sauces became more distracting than enjoyable. The pommes purée were another disappointment. Instead of being smooth, light, and buttery, they had the texture of thick glue. The lobster mac & cheese was another major disappointment. It was covered in an extremely thick béchamel sauce that was surprisingly bland while being completely overpowered by smoked Gouda. The smoke flavor tasted artificial and overwhelmed everything else in the dish. The pasta was so overcooked that the noodles had completely disintegrated, leaving behind a mushy texture. The lobster itself didn't resemble fresh lobster at all. It tasted more like overcooked imitation crab with the texture of dry chicken. It was one of the most disappointing lobster mac & cheese dishes I've ever had. Dessert didn't redeem the meal. We tried the homemade gelato in chocolate espresso, salted caramel, and pistachio. All three tasted icy, watery, and lacked flavor, almost as if they hadn't been churned or stored properly. The crème brûlée tasted more like boxed vanilla pudding with a layer of burnt sugar than a freshly made custard. When you're spending around $600 for three people, you expect an exceptional meal with quality ingredients, proper execution, and attention to detail. Instead, nearly every course had significant flaws. I wanted to love this restaurant because Buffalo could always use another great steakhouse, but based on my experience, this felt like a restaurant charging luxury prices without delivering a luxury dining experience. We dined at Reserve on 7/23 and everything was top notch. Our table was ready when we got there and the ambiance was elegant and welcoming. The menu was great and the food was so good. We had a little of everything from steak to chicken, salmon, scallop and lobster tail. The corn and potato sides were enough for all six of us. The cheesecake and tiramisu were yummy.
