The sensory deprivation station was such an experience. Given my chronic sensory overstimulation, I wanted to see how relaxing the deprivation tank would be. First, I thought to myself I wouldn't be able to be in a tank. Fortunately, it was an open space. The smell of Epson salt is strong, but I got use to it and it wasn't overpowering. With the ear plugs in, I could hear the traffic faintly. But the rest of my body was jello in the best possible way. It's an hour long of float and the time passes by so fast. I love the option they have for light (low blue light) in case complete darkness is a problem. I used it once to ground myself. Lastly, the water fountain shower after with tee tree and eucalyptus wash shampoo/conditioners and lotions provided at the end wrap up the whole experience. It was clear no one had swept the floors for a very long time, there was hair and cobwebs stuck to the wall, and mold growing on the floorboards and the roof of the tank itself! This was my first experience with a float tank (s/o to Groupon) and it was WEIRD, but the setup at Requiescent was exactly as people had described it to me. Eric was mad friendly and informative regarding the tank. He even told me to keep my hands away from my eyes, which my roommate warned me to do as well. The place had cool art and the furniture looked interesting as well. It was not dirty at all, as others have described. You shower before and after the tank. Everything is in the same, sound proof private room. They have the same shower setup as my ex-boyfriend's dad which is this modern fancy glass divider instead of a curtain that is difficult to clean, can get moldy. That was pretty cool, but the way it's set up gets water all over the floor, so make sure you have all of your stuff placed on hooks after you strip naked. I would recommend placing your shoes somewhere too, like on the chair or the small table in there. I wish I had known that the shower was part of it. Salt, especially magnesium salt (epsom salt) is antimicrobial, so the showering is mostly a formality, which is great! However, I prefer to use my own soap/shampoo, so I wish there was something on the website or confirmation email so I could have prepared. They have soap, shampoo, conditioner, lotion, hair dryers, abd combs for those of you who aren't as picky. Also, when I closed the door and turned off the light in the tank, I could still see the light in the shower/changing room. That turns off automatically, so don't worry. You don't really get the full experience until that light shuts off. They give you rad ear plugs so you don't get swimmer's ear. Definitely use those and use the headrest thing. I recommend folding your arms upward or stretching up if you're short enough in the tank. Placing my arms down hurt my shoulders somehow, something to do with how my particular body floated in the tank. It kinda feels like skinny dipping at night mixed with taking an epsom salt bath, but to the point that everything is the same temperature as your skin. I could barely hear my own heart beat like they say, but I tried stretching in the tank and I could hear my joints crack super loudly so that was weird/cool. You might fall asleep, you might dream, and you might meditate, but regardless it's a great way to stay the f*** off your phone for once. It was a cool experience and I'm happy I did it. As good as it gets! I have wanted to try floating for some time. I think the mix of deprivation for mental state and the floating for body relaxation were both equally attractive to me. I was excited that I had a day to myself and chose this in lieu of a massage. Was definitely the right choice. I was a bit nervous, about both feeling claustrophobic and being bored. I felt neither. What I did feel was relaxed, refreshed, and renewed both mentally and physically. The staff was well-informed about holistic healing and passionate about teaching you how to get the most out of your session. The technologies used at Requiescent Float Center are unique, well designed and well maintained. The space is fantastic and welcoming for first-time floaters and veterans alike. Genuine intentions permeate the space and allowed me to relax in a way that I have not been able to in a while. I would definitely come back here for another session. read more

This was my first experience with a floatation tank. It wasn't horrible, but it's probably just not something for me. It is an interesting experience to say the least. Close your eyes, float around and you can hear your own heartbeat. I did not choose the total sense deprivation by turning off the tank lights. The suggestion by the staff person to use the noodle was helpful as was the water bottle to spritz your face when your sweat runs into your eyes. Also of help would be the addition of some kind of grab bar for those of us who would appreciate something to hold onto when getting in and out of the tank. The tank itself is basically a rubber room. (The entire room is rubber!) After a half an hour, I began to get a little nauseous which was explained as the salt vs gravity or something to do with that. Was a clean facility. This location had at least 2 tanks that I could see. Looking forward to summer and being able to float on a nearby lake. read more

The staff is very kind and helpful. The tank felt slimy and smelled of mold. Couldn't really relax because the smell was strong, then my mind thought...is the water clean,? Felt the sides and they were slimy. Gross. After the float, you need to shower. Wish I knew, I would have brought my own products. They were out of body soap and shampoo. When I threw my ear plugs away, the trash can was full. May seem minor, but they're ear plugs and take up little room. Overall, felt like the cleanliness was sub par. I probably won't do it again, there, because of that. read more

0/10 would not recommend. Went to the Stuyvesant plaza location 3 days ago. Somebody needs to check the mirrors in the changing room because it did not pass the fingernail test which leads me to question if it's a 2 way mirror or has a camera... I did not stick around to further investigate. The bathroom was gross with hair on the toilet seat and sink. The tank was so stinky. As soon as the guy opened the door to show me the inside the smell hit me. At first, I figured it must be from the black rubber or plastic material that the "tank" is lined with... it does not look like a professional built this thing. After an hour and a half I could not take the smell. By the way it was not sound proof at all... I heard every car that drove by with my ear plugs in. back to the horrible smell- it was on everything. The towels were rough and musty smelling. I left the door to the tank open for some air flow but that made it cold... so my options were breathe in stinky moldy air or freeze in this funky water. I showered very thoroughly when I got out and the smell stayed on me. I had to shower again after leaving. Spent the whole day trying not to think about the awful smell and the sketchy mirror. I realize now it had to be mold or mildew. It was too pungent. But I went in there anyway because my back is killing me. ‍ don't be like me. There's better float tank facilities out there for sure. Repose wellness has an actual sensory deprivation float pod. Not some makeshift pool with a light and tarp over it. read more

TO CLARIFY: THIS IS A REVIEW OF THE STUYVESANT PLAZA LOCATION. I wasn't going to post a bad review until I read some of those 5 star reviews and assumed they're fake. Gotta set the record straight! First off, it's not a tank, it's a closet someone covered with black waterproof sheets. The ceiling is WAY too high for the space to ever get warm. Second, the crack in the door that lets light shine on your face for the first 5 minutes also lets a cold breeze blow on you the entire time. The water isn't exactly hot; I got so cold I got out early. Third, I could hear the bass line of music from somewhere nearby. No, it wasn't my pulse or my blood; I wear earplugs all the time and I know the difference. Fourth, cleanliness: I'm sure it costs too much to change the water every day, but maybe more often than they're doing now: some of the black plastic felt slimey. Fifth: it just looked cheaply thrown together - the light switch, the light bar, the sheeting... Go build your own. I had been looking forward to trying one of these tanks my whole life, and it really really really stunk. read more

This place is amazing; I started floating around Jan/19 and have done around 20+ floats since and each time it gets better. Floating completely removes all the daily stress points on the body and being in a totally isolated environment frees the mind. Every time I get out of the tank my body and mind are just really relaxed. I haven't experienced any of the out of body effects you typically see on TV only the feeling of feeling pretty relaxed afterwards. It's a long-term therapeutic effect i.e. the more you do it the better the effect. I also like the fact that the Stuyvesant Plaza Float Center is located inside the Bare Juice Bar. Kind of cool to decompress and round off with a healthy juice/meal afterwards. read more

As a frequent floater to many different float centers, Requiescent Float Center really stands out. They really emphasize on the float being a great experience. Their huge standing room tank is spacious and much wider than any other float spa I've been to. Not only are their tanks roomy but they're as sound proof as they come! Being able to float without earplugs while having no outside noise during my float was something I've only experienced at Requiescent. Also, I could really tell that Eric, the owner, really cared about a great floating experience and really went above and beyond the other float center staff that I have come across before. My experience at Requiescent was five-star all the way. The staff was very welcoming and gave me great advice for my first float experience. The rain shower head is a cool feature, the tank is quite large, both were immaculate. The float was the most relaxing experience I've ever had. I visited the center and upon entering I questioned if I wanted to stay and give it a try or leave. The place looked like it was still undergoing renovation. There was dust/dirt EVERYWHERE in the lobby, which didn't give me the warm and fuzzies about my upcoming experience. I get to the room, shower and get into the float room. (Instead of pods there are rooms that are built to contain the water with some sort of rubber lining and piping in the floor. There's a light in the far corner of the wall and a button close by to control it.) I noticed there was white stuff floating in the water(I was hoping it was salt but it didn't look like it), which creeped me out, and the room had a strong chemical odor. (If that is normal for all salt-water floatation-situations then I can't deal). I floated for about 20-30 min to try and get something out of it and I couldn't take it (I booked a 1.5 hr float. I give the guy who helped me some credit because he only charged me for one hour. *thank you*) I couldn't get past these things to enjoy the experience. I would suggest they start over and clean the place up. This was my first experience and I can't say I would try them again. read more

I had my first float experience the other day and to my disappointment it was not what I expected or was hoping for. To start, with all the construction going on in Troy I had to drive around the block a few times to even find a parking spot. I will say the staff was very welcoming and helpful giving information but for me that was the only positive about this experience. I'm not sure if they are still working on the space but it was dusty and seemed unfinished. The changing room where you shower did not have a shower curtain so water ended up getting all over the area that was suppose to be dry where you changed/dried off. Inside the tanked seemed very "DIY" and creeped me out a little. Once I got into the water, I was not comfortable enough to shut the light off (which was a dim rope light in corner of tank). It was humid and muggy in there which made me feel like I couldn't breathe (even with the door cracked a little). I did use the halo head float which seemed to help me relax my head in the water but my mind wouldn't stop racing all over the place. Overall for me it was not relaxing or enjoyable (I felt more agitated and anxious upon leaving) Unfortunately I don't think I'd ever try this again. read more

Staff was very friendly and informative BUT that was the only positive experience i had....Parking at the Troy location was horrible. Once i showered and got into the tank i instantly became anxious. They say that this is really good for people with anxiety, depression and ptsd. I would not recommend anyone with these things to do this. I tried to make the most of it but couldn't help but feel very uncomfortable. The staff member also made me aware that the door is a 500 pound cement sound proof door so no one can hear you if you need help. The shower doesn't have a shower curtain which caused all of the water to get onto the floor and get my clothes and shoes wet. The tank is lined with what looks like a black tarp and has only a small light that isn't very bright at all. It was hard to breathe in the tank and the salt in the water caused my head to feel very heavy and uncomfortable. All I could hear was my heartbeat pounding which was a very strange feeling. The darkness and silence did nothing for me but make my mind race which caused me to no be able to relax. It also smelled really bad. Once it was finally over i felt very disoriented and had a hard time getting up and walking which caused even more anxiety. Also it was promoted that it helps with aches and pains but i felt no relief from anything and actually it gave me a migraine and a neck ache. It could be a really good experience for some people but again i wouldn't recommend it to someone with anxiety. read more
