3.5 stars... Cute little restaurant in Berkley with average food and drinks. The seating style reminds me of a diner, but when you first walk in they do have a small bar rail with 4 bar stools. I dined here on a snowy late Saturday afternoon. It was dead inside, but I think a lot had to do with the time and weather. The restaurant is clean and the service is up to par. They offer a decent casual wine list where a glass will run you anywhere from $5-$8. Their house wine is Bota Box and they offer a variety (unlike most places where there is only one red and one white for house). They also have craft cocktails which are standard pricing, but I personally think they were a little too pricey for this joint. They don't have a huge menu, but the selection they have is good. I ordered the chicken chili which was good, served in a mug and topped with a dollop of Greek yogurt (nice touch). I had the buffalo chicken burger with fries. The chicken was tender and they served a generous thick juicy piece on the burger. I wasn't a fan of the bbq sauce on the burger so i scrapped that off since the chicken already had a buffalo style sauce. My friend ordered the blt pasta which was good. Her portion was very large. We both had plenty to take home for leftovers. If this was a restaurant close to me I would probably be a regular, but it isn't a place I am going to go out of my way to visit or take out of towners. read more

Republica - Chicken chili and buffalo and blue chicken sandwich - Gastropubs Near Me - Berkley, Michigan

Really great food, atmosphere, and service! Definitely recommend! Oh and cocktails are delish too!

We stopped in here for lunch yesterday and I was very impressed. Everything on the menu sounded really good. I aaaalmost got the bacon, kale, tomato and duck sandwich but I went with the buffalo chicken sandwich with apple and cabbage slaw and bleu cheese. It was excellent and the fries were awesome too. My friend got fries with feta, oregano and lemon juice. I'd never had lemon juice on fries, but it was awesome, and I might have to start asking for lemon slices whenever I order fries. They had a lot of interesting cocktails that I'd be interested in trying some time too. read more

Nutritious and delicious food in a friendly setting. Nice hot food on a cold day and we found something that my gluten-free husband could eat, so that was good. A nice variety in the food too. read more

Food was ehhh ok And expensive. We had 2 sandwiches and a coke that cost $37. We tried it but wouldn't return again. Also when we asked for straws they said that they don't have them. That was kind of disappointing, i understand your environment friendly but they could have paper straws for their clients. Last but not least their napkins.... they have cloth napkins that left fuzzies all over my clothes, all over the place on the table. Moral of the story is that this place is nothing special at all!!!!! read more

My kind of place, love the decor love the service and loved the food. This is a little hidden gem in Berkley, avoid all the traffic and the lack of parking in Royal Oak. If you like lamb you have to get the lamb burger. The fries were cooked perfect! Loved Yiayia's beans. Didn't have one complaint. Give Republica a try, and you'll taste what i tasted and enjoy it. Went here with coworkers for lunch and was not disappointed. On review of the menu, I was concerned at the pricy lunch items but charged ahead hoping I wouldn't be disappointed. I was not! First we ordered a round of Plaro's potatoes which were delicious! All the flavor worked extremely well together. For my lunch, I ordered the Urban Farm. The first bite ensured I had spent my money well! There were so many flavors exploding in my mouth but they all complimented each other very well. It was absolutely delicious and worked extremely well with my WW points! Definitely will return for more yum sometime soon! read more

We regularly return to Republica to try it again hoping it will turn into a local Berkley gem. The food is usually ok. But the food just doesn't reach the level a food interested group can get excited about. For our most recent trip we ordered the roasted Cauliflower starter, a salad, and one of the lamb burgers. The lamb burger was good - prepared properly as well as both delicious and juicy. The asparagus was nicely prepared and served along with the lamb burger. The salad was acceptable but seemed to be plated carelessly. The cauliflower was utterly bland and resembled an unseasoned steamed vegetable. The walnut accompaniment was repulsive with overwhelming unbalanced flavors that didn't seem to have any chance of improving the cauliflower dish it was served with. The tiny lemon wedge included on the cauliflower was incorrectly cut and included seeds and also clashed with the flavors in the dish. We were also disappointed to be told there wasn't patio seating available when we arrived despite several two tops sitting empty only the front patio. All of the larger tables on the patio were filled with couples and the two tops were empty. This seating practice seems wasteful and inefficient. The serving staff seemed uncoordinated but our server did a nice job once we settled into a table. We will return sometime again and hope Republica can grow into a nice local spot for creative cuisine fare. read more

Great service every time, and unique menu as well. I personally love their burgers, their spin on a Caesar salad, and their cauliflower appetizer. They also have a super cute outdoor setup with heaters and a delicious spiked hot chocolate drink. They certainly are making the best of this unfortunate shutdown situation. read more

Why would some other reviewer compare this to Vinsetta Garage? First, Republica is not as trendy as Vinsetta- but the food is extremely on par and there isn't a 2 hour wait. Plus- the service is always a hit. Pros: 1) This BKDT- Bacon, Kale, Duck, Tomato on wheat really hits the spot. I opted for the Yaya Beans instead of the Fries. The white bean is a white bean salad. It's light and refreshing, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. 2) 1/2 price happy hour specials from 4-6pm 3) Local Michigan Cider!!! 4) Excellent service and they refilled my water without asking! Cons: 1) A lot of the Michigan Beer on tap run out quickly. I mean it was like 6:30pm 2) Side of fries with the sandwiches are soggy. I wish I had the special fries with lemon, etc. 3) Parking Lot is small and tight 4) So my counterpart liked his general burger, but was not memorized by it. He probably should of order the lamb burger or any of the other entrees, Next time, I would try this Urban Farm Vegetarian sandwhich. read more

We went to Republica when it first opened, and we keep going back. It's one of my favorites. Republica is a tiny place with a tiny parking lot and really delicious food. The first time Boyfriend and I went, the chef came out to talk with us about our dinner and the restaurant. It was clear he had a real passion for this stuff. The staff, too, is really considerate and friendly. I've never had anything but great service. Republica has a limited draft beer selection (usually two beers on tap at a time), but some creative cocktail options. One time when we were seated at the bar, the bartender made up a drink for me based on things I like. Obviously it was awesome. They've got a great menu, but I always go back to the Revolution burger. It's amazing. Fried egg, bacon, onion ring, cheese, it's incredible. I highly recommend it. This last time, we also ordered the Flower Roast, whole cauliflower with walnut garlic sauce, which was also great. Definitely try this place out. It's fun, friendly, and seriously good. read more

We just moved into the area. Saw it was pretty highly rated here. Got sat down immediately, by someone we later found out was not a server. 4 tables of customers other than us. 1 table was done and checking out. Another had their food, 2 others were waiting for food. 15 minutes passed before the one male server walk-by greets us saying he'll be with us. Actual 15 minutes, not yelp-exaggeration-OMG-EVERYTHING-IS-TERRIBLE-15-MINUTES, cause I texted our friends to join us if they were able the moment we got sat. My girlfriend has worked in the restaurant business for 13 years, she was pretty livid. I'm a patient man, but was irked. We watched as the server brought out food to one of the tables. Once he finished, he went back to the register and started cashing out a check. Girlfriend asked to leave right then, I should have listened but said that it looks like he's getting our waters. WATERS, at the 20 minute point. I can hear him telling the busser that "she's gonna take that table" referring to some other server. I guess some backup server just got there to assist. She came over with waters at the 22-minute point. My girlfriend then, kind of ranted to the new female server. (If you're reading this, I'm sorry, she was just really frustrated and we both know it had nothing to do with you. You were very patient and kind for listening her out. It's my fault you went through that, we should have left when she first wanted to). Girlfriend says she doesn't want to be there anymore so we left. On the way out I heard the female server explain what happened to the male server who in turn had some kind of snide remark. I let it be and we continued out. Very unfortunate. We we're excited to try the place. 3 active tables, a 4th table doesn't even get a greeting til 15 minutes and water til 22 minutes? That's pretty terrible. A brief stop at our table explaining you're having a hard time, or explaining we're getting a different server would have alleviated any issues. Bad communication. Customer service is 99% of any experience, unfortunately there was almost none to be found here today. read more

This is my second visit to Republica, since there menu is relatively seasonal. I have heard this place has good "small plates", which one or two of the items can be 'unique' but it is nothing like tapas - if that is what you are expecting. Also, the "small plates" are small in quantity of food and not a good value for what you pay. During my first visit, I had the burger and it tasted good, not too greasy, and definitely not dry - which is how a burger should be. Burgers are priced slightly above average for mid-range pricing. If you get the entrees; most of them are not worth the value. During this visit, I ordered the "thick cut pork chop with cabbage and apple sauerkraut" for $18. When the entree arrived, the pork chop is a normal cut, which can find at a grocery store for ~$3 (and maybe at a specialty butcher shop for ~$6). At least the pork wasn't dry. There was nothing special about the cabbage and apple sauerkraut, as it was flavorless. If the presentation goal is to have the dish look more plain than if I got a dish of "pork with potatoes and sauerkraut" at a Mom-and-Pop Polish Restaurant, then Republica definitely achieved it and deserves a win. My recommendation is to just get the burgers and avoid the entrees and small plates. The menu is gluten free, vegan and vegetarian friendly; but I don't know if those dishes are good. The interior is artfully decorated, and there is a corner with hockey memorabilia for the hockey enthusiast. Also, there is a small bar, with lots of beers on tap, and cocktail list. There is limited seating, as it only has a max capacity of 53; so if you have a big group, then there may be a wait to get a table. The small parking lot can get crowded, so you may have to look for street-parking. read more

When is it that a slice of pita bread is 9 dollars ? Well republics thinks that is ok .. embarrassing. Mitches salad / very average at best over priced by most Greek salad standards. I will not be returning this establishment needs to refocus and start charging fare prices read more

Got to give this place 5 stars for the events tonight. Got sat right away. Loved the feeling I got for this place right away. Almost as soon as we ordered our drinks a huge storm hit. Lighting struck the electrical Pole outside and it honestly blew up. Power out. They still brought us our beers - on the house. But we couldn't order food due to the ventilation in the kitchen being electrical. Still a fun time. Will definitely be back. The food option I saw coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. read more

Delish!!! And I'm so happy to find a educated staff with a great selection of gluten free menu items. As a Celiac, eating out is hard and I can eat with confidence here. My non-gluten free hubby also enjoys the food. His only request is a Bud Lite... As a gastro pub, they only have craft beer. (He would have given 4 stars because of this, but he's not writing the review ) I do have to note, the wait staff does seem disinterested. It took a while to get a server to notice us, once she did we were attended to fine and she was pleasant. I do understand some of the other staff related comments tho... read more

Visited just after Covid and had a nice dinner at a fair price. Nice to be able to dine outside and watch people go by.

I've been wanting to try this place for so long, now I can't wait to go back. All around great experience! Service, food, and atmosphere were excellent. We had crostini and pita bread, two salads (Republica chopped & beet/arugula) and peach cobbler. Food was outstanding! Very nice restaurant in Berkley/Huntington Woods. Small but very clean with nice decor. Service was quick and friendly. Fish and chips were good but only got 2 pieces of fish with good fries. No cole slaw. My wife had the lamb burger which someone in a review called the "best ever", it was good. Not the best. Salmon burger my son had he also enjoyed. This is a nice place, nothing exciting but nice. read more

I really enjoy the menu options. Local options with a unique twist on combining flavors. The cauliflower is cooked perfectly, and the Walnut garlic paste that comes with it is divine. I rarely order grilled cheese when I'm out, because, seriously, grilled cheese!? But you are missing out of you don't try theirs. I don't even like tomato soup, but the tomato fennel soup that comes with it is possibly the best comfort food in metro Detroit. The decor is hipster and welcoming, and the patio is a nice treat in the summer. This place is really a gem. read more

Had the most amazing food ever! The Tomato Fennel soup was the BEST tomato soup I've EVER had! Thick with crushed tomatoes, fennel and spices to die for. This is an awesome place to eat at! I had one of the specials of the night, which was a veggie burger made from beets, walnuts, and lentils and it was amazing. I'm not a vegetarian and I've never felt any inclination to try a veggie burger before this, but even most normal burgers wouldn't be able to stand up to the one I had. Republica has a great selection of microbrews and a very nice environment. The chef even brings some tables their food and I loved the hockey-themed booth. My only complaint was that we were sitting at our table for almost 15 minutes before our waitress got to us and I got the impression that they forgot to assign us someone. After that, service was very quick, though, so I'm thinking it was an anomaly. I will definitely be back! read more

We ordered carry out and the food was very good. We split the ribs and a Greek salad, substituting Brussels sprouts for fries. The biggest problem is the parking lot. It is small and if you get to the end of the aisle and there's no spot, you have to back out. The problem then is if someone is behind you. read more

Allison was a HORRIBLE server. Very rude and unprofessional. Wouldn't recommend. Food was good but service horrible.

Got a burger and it was average. Tiny ice cubes in my old fashion cocktail. It just wasn't as good as I expected based on other 4 star reviews. read more

An absolute gem of a place that deserves to be a huge success. We stopped by on a quiet Sunday evening, and had an exceptional experience both in terms of the food and the service. The roasted cauliflower appetizer is so good - they brought us two heads, since "they were kind of small". Squeeze the lemon over it, and use the garlic and walnut paste sparingly, since the stuff will keep vampires away for a week! Absolutely delicious. The Village burger (a lamb burger with feta, dill, and a yoghurt dressing) was perfectly cooked to medium rare, and just the right balance of flavours and textures. And as for the BLT pasta - make sure you try it. There is a wonderful smokiness to the whole dish from the bacon, and the portion is large enough to serve two, with leftovers for tomorrow's lunch! We will absolutely be back, and will be bringing friends. read more

The food is good. Limited veggie options, but they exist. Wish they had more beers on tap. Mainly go because the patio is dog friendly

I just had to leave this review after eating one of the best salads I've ever had. Battling a cold and trying to eat "healthy" and the beet & arugula salad with pistachios, quinoa, blue cheese and balsamic was ridiculously tasty. I devoured it. My wife got the salmon and my son the mac & cheese, and everyone raved about their meal. Considering how hard carryout can be, Republica killed it! read more

Was there a few years back and was not impressed with the food. Things have changed. It was extremely good. New menu. We Had Mitches ribs, blt pasta, fish and chips, chicken parm, shrimp flatbread, goats cheese crostini, and carrot cake. I am not a fan of these type ribs ( fall off the bone) but these were good. Literally everything we ordered was really good. On top of that, I am gluten free and most of the menu worked for me. Even the flat bread and carrot cake. Next time I will try the Piedmont hamburgers. I really love that beef, piedmonte is very beefy, makes great hamburgers and has very low fat. Highly recommend the restraunt. read more
