My husband and I have been customers for many years and spend thousands of dollars with Rens. We have always loved that they're local and have never had an issue ever...until now. Recently they updated their website and we got an email we needed to re-do our dog food subscription information. I re-did it all and re-ordered it for our two large breed dogs because we were running low and expecting a regular shipment soon. I was charged for the full amount of the dog food, but we ended up receiving some cat stuff instead. I was confused and tried to call the customer service line during business hours, always getting a voicemail. I left two voicemails and never received a call back. I follow-up with an email which took days for someone to respond to and when they did, they wanted me to bring the incorrect items back to a storefront to get my refund...when I refused this they told me they would send a FedEx return label to that it could just be shipped back directly to them. I do not own a printer and I do not think it is my responsibility as the customer who did not make a mistake to have to go through all of this effort to get this incorrect product back to them. I just wanted a refund and its not been almost two weeks since I paid for this order. The customer service agent then emails back and says that since I am unwilling to cooperate with them they will be refunding the dollar amount of the items they incorrectly sent from my refund amount...the thing is, I was never charged for these items I was charged for the regular amount of dog food. The company is using my money to fund their own mistake and it makes me feel sick to my stomach. I will NEVER be doing business with this company again after this. Extremely disappointed! read more

I visited during their annual tent sale and I thought this place was a-ok. Sale seemed more geared towards dog owners as opposed to cat or other domestic pets. Customers here seem to be hardcore pet lovers. I love my cat, but I don't talk to her...when there are (many) people around. Other than that, I didn't really pay attention to their prices so I can't say whether or not it's worth driving out of the way to save $$$. Staff were friendly and asked if I needed help, even went to the back to check out their selection of pet strollers, but I'm not sure if it's because they're normally this way OR because it was due to the sale. Great selection on grooming supplies! They have everything you need if you're getting started or if you just need some new supplies. They carry a great selection of food - many of the foods that only smaller pet stores carry like Orijen and Taste of the Wild. I definitely think this place is worth the drive- Trafalgar Rd. south of 407. Great prices, hugh selection. A big fun aisle for pet owners. Plus you can buy awesome shampoos and conditioners for your pet in concentrated form. You add your own water. You can buy a gallon of high quality shampoo for $25, but you then dilute it 30:1 etc. Big, big savings. Had applied, met in person and explained my extensive experience in the animal product sales associate field. I asked about disability coverage around service dogs, and if I would be allow to attend with a service dog on days which I strongly required the aid. It would not be daily, and explained I had a medical note. I was not called back after the interview, when I emailed the manager to see the status on the application I didn't even get an email explaining I wad not hired. I strongly believe this was discrimination against a possible employee with minor medical needs which would have required a minor accommodation for my working dog . I've sent them three e-mails through their "Contact Us" link on their website to inquire about a product, and not one was answered. Not even a canned generic response. Well guess what? Very well stocked pet store, they have no pets for sale but every single pet supply you could ever need. It's a pretty big warehouse style store. How I initially found this store is by asking the groomers at another pet store where they sharpen their dog hair clippers ( I have a 110 pound dog and a professional hair trimmer was $90.- were as getting my dog groomed once was $80.- ), well they pointed me to this store. Once a week ( I think it's a Thursday ) a guy comes by and picks up all the blades for sharpening and drops them off the following week. read more

RENs is a little gem I found years ago and fell in love with it. Their selection and friendly, helpful staff are awesome. The place is huge and a dog lovers dream! They have a huge variety of food and stock a lot of all natural/high quality pet foods and treats. They have a buy 10 get one free food promotion which can add up to a lot of savings in the long run. They definitely have the largest selection of specialty dog items and things I haven't seen anywhere else. Their prices are very good except on dog beds. The quality of beds are excellent and selection massive- if you want top notch quality and pattern selection they are it. It's not that the beds are over priced for the quality, I just couldn't spend $150 on a dog bed (though I would if I had the money to spend on over the top items). Don't worry- not all the beds are over $100, there are many that are your average dog bed price. The pet food bowl aisle is full of interesting options- colours, type of material, raised dishes for taller dogs and full of stylish designs to suit any home decor. They also have the best selection and pricing for indoor and outdoor dog pens, gates etc. RENs caters to businesses as well by offering bulk for some of their products, including a huge selection of shampoos, conditioners, grooming scissors etc. They offer many natural products without extra crap in them which is what I look for in shampoos, treats etc for my dogs. They also offer feed for farm animals as well if that pertains to you :) What I love about RENs is the genuine customer service that can be lacking in many retail stores these days. They are always willing to help or find someone who can if they don't have the info you need about a product. The staff are very knowledgeable and always willing to order in what you need or try to accommodate you in any way they can. My latest find there are crash certified seatbelt harnesses for dogs that are the only ones I've seen on the market with reinforced metal clips and actual crash certification. They are wonderful- a bit expensive but well worth it for the quality and security they offer. They keep the dog comfortable and secure unlike others that have a long belt part which can get tangled or allow the dog to fall off the seat. I highly recommend them- they can double as a leash harness as well when getting in and out of the car. So needless to say RENs is worth the trip if you want variety you can't get anywhere else and friendly, knowledgable staff who are willing to help you. read more

Yes, our dog is super spoiled. The full-time staff are very knowledgeable and can give great suggestions for any issue that you might be having with your pet. Their online though could use some work. I love this place - I only wish it were closer! This is like the mother of all pet stores. For anyone with multiple pets, especially large breed dogs - I feel like you could save a lot of money buying things like food, shampoo, beds, etc. here. Terrible Customer Service I ordered a $200 dog grooming dryer online and before I had it out of the package it went on sale. I contacted them immediately to either return and order again at the discount or simply have a $30 credit. After three attempts to get CS to even respond, I have given up and will take my business elsewhere. We were referred to by Clarkson Animal Hospital when we needed to order Purina Pro Plan for Cats when the store where closed for walk ins due to the pandemic. So online shopping and curb side pick up was available. We had a terrible experience ordering online with PetSmart because their site kept crashing so the Clarkson Animal Hospital refereed is to RENs Pet Depot. The online site did not give you option to select number of items you want to buy and the free shipping delivery option tells you it will delivery within 2 days. No communication from them for follow up or update was done. Other than forcing you to buy at a select item THEY want you to purchase. No buyer select option given. Price is also higher compared to others. We had to constantly call them or email to find out when we are going to receive it. We did a online order on Sunday paying over $107 just to get free delivery and was told we will get the item 5 days after. Terrible customer service and poor communication. Will not recommend to family and friends. Clarkson Animal Clinic was notified how terrible our experience was with them. The store we selected to order was Heartland, Mississuaga since this was closest to us. They should be more accommodating to pet owners especially during this hard time in a pandemic crisis. We did not receive our order yet and it's Thursday. I ended up going to our Vet Clinic for support. Will refund the whole order. Such a great inconvenience. read more

I would like to give this business 0 stars if I were able to, but unfortunately its not possible. I used to be a regular customer to this store however the last two visits made me so upset I believe I will never return. The first time was to buy Iams dry cat food as well as some fancy feast canned food. My cat food in the 20lb bag cost $45.49 and the fancy feast wet food cost $0.73/can. The same dry food at Walmart cost $32 dollars while wet food is about $0.57/ca. Since they advertised on their website that they will glady price-match with a 10% deduction to beat competitor prices, I went back to get some money. When I went in, the customer manager was not very friendly. She went online to verify that my dry food price was correct however when she checked the price of the canned food, she accused me of looking at the american walmart site instead of the Canadian. She then went on to say that the Canadian store charges 61 cents, and she said to me "would you like me to price match that too??" in a mocking tone. I was simply appauled. I went to a local walmart afterwards and indeed, the price is 57 cents a can. Not only did she not gladly price match my CORRECT price, she mocked the fact that I was price matching. And they did not beat the competitor's price by 10% either... The second time, I was purchasing a large bag of Merrick's dog food. The bag contained a 5 dollar coupon on it which the cashier forgot to scan. When I asked her to scan the coupon, she said to me "you are rude!" I don't believe I did anything wrong for asking them to scan the manufacterer's coupon, that was attached to the dog food! The manager failed to resolve the issue only trying to rush me out of their store. In addition to these incidents, I have noticed that they are not consistent with notifying customers of any rebates. For example when purchasing the large size Merrick's dry food, they have a buy 10 bag, get the 11th free policy. I purchased the dog food many times and not till recently did one cashier notify me of the policy. When I asked her if this is a recent discount, she said to me that its not. After that time, I noticed that not all of the cashiers will record my purchase unlesss I asked. All in all, the inconsistency in upholdng their rebates makes me question their store's honesty. I admit, their selection is large and their customer service seems polite from the exterior ;however you certainly will overpay for their products and will be punished if you dare question their prices. read more

I am not even sure where to begin with how disappointed I am! I am not sure what happened to this wonderful place over the past few years and more specifically months, but it's a sad sad change. Rens used to thrive on their customer service and employee knowledge. As a matter of fact, years ago I worked there and am well aware of what Ren and Collins standards USED to be. However, on my past recent visits over the past few months, every visit has left me feeling unhappy and unsatisfied. Rens has become a Walmart in the sense that you cannot find an employee anywhere to help you, minus the cashiers. Also, God forbid you ask a question and no one has an answer for you and WILL NOT be happy to find the answer out. On my previous experience this weekend I left Rens knowing I will more than likely not return. Which is sad as I have been going to Rens for all my pets needs for the past decade. I simply needed a price of something in which had to tag or barcode. After walking the store aimlessly and finding no one, I proceeded to ask the cashier for someone or assistance on the floor. She proceeded to page someone and after standing there for another 5 minutes and after watching the MANAGER scurry by me on 3 different occasions I finally piped up again and asked the cashier if anyone would help me!? She asked her manager to come back and help me as I had been standing there for way too long at this point. This is where I really got upset, the manager, whom I have had previous terrible experiences with walked up all frustrated, thru his hands in the air and said "ok quickly what do you want?" Not what can I assist you with, or in sorry for the wait, but what do you want!? Seriously!? I proceeded to tell him that if he did not have the time, not to bother. He laughed at me, shook his head, thru his hands in the air and in an attempt to rush me said "no I just need to know what it is you want" Absolutely ridiculous. Also, this same manager continuously reprimanded his customer service girls for not greeting and smiling at customers, meanwhile, he runs around the store like a chicken with his head cut off looking constantly unorganized and definitely NOT eager to help anyone. I am sooooo disappointed with what Rens has turned into. It's sad that just because Colin has opened up other stores that their main and original store seems to be slipping down the gutter and nothing has changed in the course of 6 months. Ren would be mortified if he knew this was how his MANAGER of his once beloved store is treating and pushing away his customers. Pick it up Rens!!! I needed to get a clipper for my dog, who will not let a groomer touch him. I read some reviews for Ren's and decided to call. I learned more from the girl on the phone in five minutes than I did spending a half hour with someone at PetSmart. So I decided to drive to Oakville from Toronto and it was well worth the drive.
