Doris checked where I lived and saw the dog park right there. I ended up adopting a two year old from Kentucky named faith now known as Amber. Ot was pouring rain that day and she was the only one not crying. Doris you helped heal my heart and my cats hearts that day - we were all missing our old friend but we hd a new one. It's been 6 years and she's the best little thing ever thank you. I've never had any trouble with her ..except when she makes eye contact with strangers stopping them until she gets a hi. She might have lymphoma now but she's been the best buddy to my cats and I Thank you Doris.

I adopted a rescue from Dolores Doherty in late 2015. He was a 4 year-old Beagle named Butler from…read moreKentucky, who had apparently been neglected/tied up outside most of his life. I enquired about him during a rescue event in Oakville and made sure I asked a multitude of questions. Ms. Doherty assured me Butler had no issues with being house-broken; told me there were no issues while he was fostered for 6+ weeks. (In my mind long enough that issue(s) would definitely become apparent). So, based on that and Butler's wonderful personality, I adopted him. Within a few months, Butler was peeing and pooing everywhere in my apartment. He destroyed numerous area rugs and several pieces of furniture. When I called Ms. Doherty and told her what was happening, she suggested I make Butler start wearing diapers (!!!!!). I said absolutely NOT, and I asked if she would take him back in order to find him a suitable home - preferably one where he would be in an actual house with 24/7/365 access to a backyard. The answer was no. After 10 years of dealing with the constant issues (there were more than just the indoor "accidents" all the time) and expenses like dog confinement gates for either end of my kitchen, Butler was recently euthanized. I did try to find a home for him on numerous occasions - with no takers. At least he had 10 good years with me and lived to be 14 with bad arthritis/deafness. I would NOT recommend dealing with this Rescue.

The staff at Pet Valus also seem to have more experience with specific foods and can generally give more educated recommendations. This isn't the closest location to me, but I was picking up dinner nearby, so I stopped in to pick up a bag of Performatrin Ultra. I wanted to try another flavour - my Persian is picky! - so I asked the cashier what their exchange policy was. Without any hesitation, she offered me various bags of samples, told me try the sample first, then open the larger bag if my cat ate the sample flavour. Anyway, I just thought that was very helpful and definitely got better customer service than I would a large box pet store!

I wanted to warn people about this particular rescue we adopted our rat terrier from…read more There have been multiple issues including the fact that before we started fostering our dog we repeatedly let them know that biting was not something we could handle. The day we pick him up after a 3 hour delay, he is almost microchipped a second time, I'm informed he bites. The other day he snapped at my partner and contacted the rescue about what to do and they showed zero empathy or accountability and said that if I sent photos of him they could put him on petfinder. In their rescue headline it says that coordinators were available for help and guidance however, during my time of fostering I wasn't given any instruction, no one checked in with me and the treasurer of the organization also added pressure for me to sign and pay the fee for his adoption and made a remark that he wasn't my dog until I had signed everything, when I had only started fostering him for 2 weeks. This rescue is full of people who are unfit to work with people and the lack of transparency about his behaviours is concerning for further adopters. It left a bitter taste in my mouth and I feel as someone who has managed a non profit that even if they are operating at capacity they are not meeting the minimum of making sure the homes the dogs go to are prepared. Very irresponsible.

We adopted our Jack Russell/Chihuahua/Australian Cattle Dog mix from the Jack Russell Network of…read moreCanada (JRNC) in November 2020. This dog should never have been adopted to a city dweller. He spent the first 6 years of his life in a country setting, where he was allowed out for the whole day and only came in at night. When we got him, he had been neutered just a few months earlier, and his tail was amputated. In the shelter he was first put into, he chewed his tail to the point that it became infected and had to be removed. Our home is in the middle of the city, with access to a small back yard, and 3 walks per day. Obviously this was not what he was used to and it was difficult for him to adjust. He was reactive to other dogs, lunging, barking and growling. Walks were never very pleasant. As time went by, he became more frustrated and eventually he attacked our adult daughter. He launched at her with his jaws around her nose and wouldn't release until my husband shouted at him. Fortunately our daughter didn't need stitches, just antibiotics. It wasn't his fault, I had brought a bit of food to him and my daughter bent over to pet him at the same time. According to an animal behaviourist I spoke to, the dog did not attack. What he did was to give a warning. We finally surrendered him back to the JRNC after more aggressive behaviour towards both of our adult children. And then we saw his profile on Petfinder, where they were saying he was good with older children and other dogs. Our family was shocked as we had told them in our email and on the surrender document that the dog should be in a rural home and no children. Our fear is that if he were to bite a child, then he would be put down. He doesn't deserve that. I emailed JRNC about our concerns and the only reply was from one of the coordinators who thought she was talking to the director. We were referred to as being a pain, and that we should be told not to contact them anymore. Please think twice about adopting from this rescue. They are rescuing too many dogs without the proper resources to help these dogs adjust. Many of the dogs are coming from Texas and Louisiana.

Dr. Best told me to bring her home; but I really felt I couldn't deal with it. She was a very unhappy little girl. The next day she was dragging her back legs; so I took her back. I believe it was Dr.Burrows who told me she had never seen such a bad back. Liebchen was immobile and all tucked into herself. I knew she didn't want me to approach her; and that she wanted to go. I decided at the beginning I would never let her suffer; so I let her go. That was May 18, 2020; but Dr. Burrows was kind enough to let me in during covid so I could be with her. It's only recently I really felt I let her go. I thank Dr. Burrows for giving it to me straight; and to Dr. Best for reminding me she was my responsibility. I don't think anything else could have been done. I may get another dachshund and bring her in; but at this point I'm thinking of taking her to a 24 hour hospital; perhaps one that does some counselling if I could find one. Thank you for trying to help my little girl. I really know she wanted to go. Robyn Mound

I worked as an animal attendant during my university years and saw the good, the bad, and the ugly in veterinary care. These caregivers are firmly in the good. My cat, Loki, echoes all the above !

The poor business practices of this company speak for themselves in the reviews, but to be fair,…read moretheir customer service experience is pleasant. The reps are energetic, helpful, and based in the U.S. You don't have to wait very long, and you can tell that they've done high quality training with their employees. Unfortunately, perky customer service cannot make up for a badly run business. 24PetWatch's technology platform is clunky and outdated, preventing me from receiving portal credentials to register my pup's microchip. Even after calling in twice to their customer service line, the friendly reps assured me that the credentials would arrive within 24 hours (weird that it's not instantaneous), yet no email ever arrived. When I try to register online with the microchip number on hand, the system prompts me to call into the customer service line. Round and round we go. Insurance policies are the bread and butter for this company. This is clear from the aggressive marketing emails that hit your inbox the moment they have your email address. If this company cared half as much about registering and tracing pups rather than peddling insurance plans, maybe their reputation would not be so shoddy. If they can't execute a task as simple as emailing portal credentials, I have little confidence they could actually help in a more serious situation. I would steer clear of this company with a 10-foot pole. It also wouldn't be a bad idea to encourage rescue organizations and animal shelters in your community to do the same.
