The aguas frescas were great! I tried the melon drink and the strawberry drink, and both were sweet and refreshing exactly how I like them. The hot dog was okay, but the drinks were definitely the highlight for me. One thing to keep in mind is that this place is cash only. I made the mistake of ordering before realizing it, and when I went to the nearby gas station to get cash, they ended up selling my order to someone else and had to remake it when I got back, which was a little disappointing. What an amazing little gem! Located on Harrisburg Blvd and Stiles Street this spot is always popping and the lines are real, but they go fast. While visiting Houston, the heat is no joke so they recommended to come here for a super pleasant refreshment and boy were they right. It seems like this part of town you may find a lot of Hispanic business which means that they folks inside speak the language. Luckily so do so placing my order was not hard at all. They sell shave ice with a menu of about 30 flavors from fruits to even el picosito ( lime juice and chile) but what a delight and the prices are even better! A 32 oz cup filled with ice and sugar for a total of $2.50! What a deal!!!! Not to mention they fill it so much it spills sometimes :) . They staff is a bit older in age but that is what makes this place even better, it makes you feel like is your mom who is giving you a treat during the heatwave. And just in case you're hungry, they also have cheese corn, hot dogs, chicharrones, nachos churros with cajeta and a few other snacks [we] like to eat. I was a amazed by how a small place can have such a great turnaround. They may not have enough parking space nor tables to seat outside, but boy do they have a line that wraps around the small building yet their service is more that efficient is super quick. Again not sure if the staff has already the practice and the sense of urgency that makes their delivery a STAT order. Amazing. Being a tourist I was more than pleased. And I truly want to come back EVERY day but I gotta give it a try to other parts of the city of Houston. It's cash only so you know it's good. Corn is great, just enough cheese and mayo, they have the chili sauce and lemon juice out for you to add it to taste. They have hot cheeto pie, and while it may look disgusting and it probably does eat the lining in your stomach, it is delicious. Their raspas are pretty trash in my opinion. The flavors taste either watered down or too concentrated, at times. It can also be very ratchet at times, and I don't know if they speak english or not since I always just order in spanish. This place is lowkey in the hood, so I usually come here in the daytime or with a friend. This place only takes cash, but the menu is very cheap! I always get an order of the elote & a churro for less than $5. I like that the churros are freshly fried; they are served hot and crispy! The elote tastes average, but I always order it since I love corn. The employees don't speak much English, but as long as you know what you want, ordering should not be difficult. Excellent food, CASH ONLY. On weekends there is a line. They speak Spanish so if you don't then bring a friend who does. There is a sign saying "if service is bad, call the owner Xxx-xxx-xxxx" and we had no bad attitudes that people mention in posts from 216 so I think they've got that worked out. Lots of kids here. As born and raised second ward residents my wife and i have been long time patrons of Refresqueria Tampico. We all grew up spending our allowances to buy raspas, aguas frescas, elotes, liquados, and more. I recently noticed they no longer sell horchata. What kind if refresqueria are yall not to sale this traditional aqua fresca??? Then today my wife requested her favorite raspa de leche con crema. My wife came back a bit upset. She sipped her raspa to find it DRY...no jugo! So she went back to kindly request that the lady splash a bit more leche syrup because we all know that when you buy a Tampico raspa its made with lots of juice/syrup. My wife didnt want to think that the Tampico employee was being prejudice upon her...but it seems she may have. My wife is Chicana. My wife did notice the employee giving her unsettling looks because my wife used spanglish as she did forget certain spanish words when ordering. The employee did serve the appropriate amount of syrup but seemed displeased as she knew she SKIMMPED on the leche syrup in thr first place. If you treat your own gente like that...that have been loyal customers...then we will make our own refresqueria... To show our gente love and how we should treat one another.
