Had them come out two days ago on Tuesday morning to inspect two combo AC/HeatPump units; $180 using their savings coupon. Over the winter, noticed that one wasn't providing warm heat like the other. Thought issue might have been a duct issue. My experience... :) What I found satisfying is that they're quite knowledgeable. Their service technician immediately determined the cause of the problem was simply due to a failed capacitor. I ended up replacing the capacitor myself later that afternoon by buying the equivalent part from Ace Hardware for $35, swapping three wires from the failed soda can sized capacitor to the replacement. Quite simple and fast; less than 10 minutes to unscrew, disconnect, swap, re-connect and re-screw the mount and outside panel. :( The reason I didn't choose them to do the repair (and what I'm still scratching my head over) is... I was quoted an additional $800 to replace it. Granted, the quote would have "upgraded" the capacitor - but the upgraded parts (Turbo200 and a Supco Boost) on Amazon together are only about $80. Also, despite asking to see the quote itemized into parts and labor, I was instead offered a 20% discount if I signed up and paid for twice yearly maintenance for even more money. When I called because my warranty company would not cover it, because as they said, "you are being ripped off". I was basically gas lit and told too bad you agreed to pay it. He tried saying it was due to it including it being installed and the warranty, but they charged me an additional $400 for the 1 hour of work so no sir, the price of the part did not include installation. As a new Realtor to Redding, CA, I had buyers looking to replace the HVAC on their new home. RH&A came highly recommended by several local realtors to I reached out to refer them to my clients. I explained my client situation how the seller of the property they were buying wouldn't let them do an HVAC inspection but that the system was really old and they were already spending far too much money, etc. etc. and the owner said he would personally give them a good deal. First of all, he recommended and installed the wrong size system in and guaranteed that it would work, then when my buyers complained about the fact that their house does not get cool, they came in and calibrated the system which still did not work so they added a second intake, which still did not fix the problem. My clients are continuing to reach out to the company in hopes to get the issue resolved but to no avail. No phone calls are returned and they spent over $25,000 on the system. I will never recommend this company to any other clients and I would caution you to not use them. This company is shady and has done a lot of scrupulous things, so much so that the property management company I work for will not use them. read more

Be careful about this business. Insist that they give you some idea of the cost for a service call upfront. I called to have someone check my gas fireplace insert on Friday and was scheduled for an appointment at 11:30 the next Monday. I was concerned that it might not be functioning well as it had a white residue inside of the glass.The Service man arrived at 12:30 and looked at my fireplace, removed 2 screws and easily wiped the soot buildup from the inner glass. He checked the unit and looked down the chimney, told me it was open/unblocked then put the glass back on the fireplace after letting it burn briefly. He checked the level of fumes the fireplace was putting out and advised me to hire someone to come clean my chimney because the reading was a little higher than he expected it should be. That was it. He was here for a little more than 30 minutes and charged me $406.00! Needless to say, I was not expecting to be charged that much when the actual hands on work that was done was wiping the soot from the glass and climbing up a ladder. I appreciate the business and what they do but I feel this service call was extremely overpriced and there should have been some sort of pre-authorization or notice of what a customer should expect to be charged. I do not normally leave 3 star reviews for any local business but I really feel like I was taken advantage of and this experience could have been much better. I could understand being charged $406.00 if there had been any sort of repair work done or time spent making a repair to a faulty unit, but this was not the case. When I questioned the excessive price, I was told the service call was $100.00 and he couldn't or didn't bother with telling me what the additional amount was for. He just wanted my card and told me he would send me an invoice after my payment cleared. He then asked me what I thought the bill should be and I told him I expected to pay $200.00 or so, but not $406.00! I feel this was the Service persons responsibility to explain the amount that he was charging and not just stand there with a hand out for my credit card. I was not given a chance to decide if I could afford the services or inspections they planned to do. I should have asked what I could expect to be charged or what the hourly rates were but I didn't. So that's on me and I won't make that mistake again. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ UPDATE I was contacted by the Service person and by the Service Manager this morning and they apologized for the way my service appointment went down and how I was left feeling like I had been overcharged and taken advantage of. They additionally went on to see about finding someone who can help me with the problem I am having that was beyond what they can do. This company never did any actual work for us and after the way they handled an estimate, I would never hire them anyway. We called about an estimate to fix the flashing around our rooftop unit that was incorrectly installed by a previous company which was creating leaking into our house. Redding Heating and Air told us they would come out for a free estimate of repair cost on a Wednesday morning. That morning comes and we get a call from a tech saying he is on his way and asked for a brief rundown of the issue which we had already explained to the office. After the phone call, we get another call from the office about 15 mins later saying that they would no longer be coming to estimate as they "drove by" and saw we had a metal roof and the owner advised we need to call a roofing company. This issue has nothing to do with our roof and even if it did, how can you determine that without actually taking a look. As for the "drive by" that was an outright lie since we have our security cameras facing the road and we watched and waited for the tech to show up. No one ever drove by. Liars. I wish if they didn't want to estimate the job, they would have just said so and not wasted our time. This whole ordeal set us back a week. Needless to say, I won't recommend them to anyone and customers beware that they deem this is a good way to handle potential business. read more

My ac and heating unit stopped working so I called Redding heating and air. I paid $99 for a consult just for them to tell me it's not fixable and that I would have to pay $12,000 for a new unit. I called Cory Burns at Shasta heating and air for a second opinion and he came out to look at it for free and had it completely repaired and working better than before within a week for $1000. Do your research and make sure to get a second opinion if this company is trying to tell you your only option is buying a new unit. read more

As a contractor myself I have never experience such bad customer service and highly over charged for there mistakes they made. First day showed up not as scheduled and brought wrong coolant when in fact was told what was needed. Second time came again not as scheduled, however I recieved a call that morning from there office to scheduled appointment not even knowing we already scheduled an appointment for that day. So again they came out not as scheduled and had to leave again, due to them not having the right adapter for there tank. So on there third attempt the tech spent less than 45 minutes and gave me a bill of $485.00 just to add 1lb. of coolant..no repairs. Would not show or give me a breakdown of cost. Had called their office and was referred to their service manager which still would tell me no breakdown of costs basically I was stuck with the high cost of there bill. Don't understand why I am paying for their mistakes of 3 trips to my house besides wasting my time and money to have to continue meeting the tech three different times. Let me explain why I will never use or recommend Redding Heating and Air again. They have expanded their business to include generators. My generator installation was done incorrectly. The error was actually quite simple - the wrong regulators were placed on the generator side. But the effect was dramatic: the generator required 4 or more attempts to start and wouldn't start without manually cancelling out of an error code that appears after 3 unsuccessful starting attempts. Thus, if one wasn't present to manually cancel the error the generator would not turn on. (Imagine the consequence during a power outage in the summer, quite common nowadays, when refrigerators and freezers would be without power until we returned home, possible after days away.) Clearly the installers did not fully test the unit. The regulators they installed provided insufficient pressure for the unit to start and run correctly. Ironically, the regulator they removed was old but would have worked correctly. I am not indicting Eric or ?/Jason, they seem honest and intelligent. But the bottom line is that I was charged top dollar ($4,328.00 for the install) for a job that was completed incorrectly. That is unacceptable. I've attached a photo of the wrong regulators and the correct one, installed by Shasta Gas. The fellow from Shasta Gas took one look at the regulators and said, "I'm surprised the generator would start at all." It now runs correctly. I had approximately $250 additional expense troubleshooting and fixing the installation. read more

Just used this company to replace a $35 capacitor for my AC not knowing I was using them. Apparently, the company that I called that installed my new unit 3 years ago is out of business and this company bought the phone number what a scam. Next time tell me that before you come out. By the time they charged their service fee and installed the part in 15 mins they charged me over $350 and said my 10 year parts warranty is no good because that is only covered by the company that installed it(unit is 3 yrs old). We bought a new heating system from Redding Heating and Air in 2020. We have had nothing but problems with the new system. We have called them 3 to 4 times every year since we had this system installed. The first year we had them come out 4X to light the darn thing since it would not stay lit. The second year the same thing until one guy told me that whomever installed the system did not install a propane pilot and that is why it continued to go out, but he will fix it right. We continue having problems with the darn thing staying lit after 3 years and them coming up with excuses after excuses on why the pilot still is going out. Yes, they do charge me EVERY time that they are coming out. All I want is to have the system that they put in to work and not have to call them 4X every year and pay every time for their incompetence. It seems like they install cheap systems just so they can profit off of the service calls. I am contemplating on turning them into the California State Board of Contractors to look into this nightmare. read more

Do not use this company at all. I have never dealt with any business so deceptive. From the very beginning I have asked at least ten times what to do with my two units. Im concerned of both AC go out during summer when guests are staying. What about if I cannot get people to come in and should it break over summer time. Travis came to my both properties. I asked before hands on both visit what to do. To prevent both AC not going out and how do I get people to get in immediately if it does. I guess there is no way right??? He recommended pre season maintenance. So I did. He charged me full price for maintenance and almost $600 to replace something that he said was old and needed to replace. After all done, I asked when do I need to replace my AC and how old it is. Surprisingly he said it's over time and needs to replaced. My face turned red and said then why did I spend $600 to replace parts if a new one should be installed. He looked guilty and explained away well the replacement of parts can get it more years. By this time after probably 20 times of addressing my concern he waited until after I pay and the. He came in before he left and said " Hey Brenda have you heard about our redding air and heating maintenance program? By Paying this small amount, you get two free pre season maintenance, and everything needs to be replaced will be 10% off. And you know what ? on top of that , when you call for problem you will have priority over other customers. My face turned and started to blame him for such horrible and deceptive business practice. The maintenance plan was the answer I was asking for from the very beginning. I addressed my issue with Jennifer, she said nothing. I told Travis my concern probably 20 times. But he waited until I paid full price with repair and maintenance then afterwards telling me it's free if you join this program. Redding air and heating this is so deceptive and wrong.
