Reaching anyone by phone was nearly impossible--calls often went unanswered or straight to voicemail, and follow-up was hit or miss. Communication throughout the process was frustrating and inconsistent, leaving us constantly wondering what was going on. What really stood out, though, was how abrasive the owner was. Interactions felt tense and unprofessional, and it made an already stressful situation that much harder. We expected better service and basic courtesy. If I could give a 0 star review I would. This company was so flaky and wishy washy. Completely ridiculous for the start of summer. We had called them several times over the span of a week, almost always went to the answering machine. When we finally set up an appointment, they didn't show up. The next appointment that we set up that they actually showed up to, they told us that our entire central AC unit was wrecked. Quoted us for the whole thing. Be very careful if you decide ti use this contractor. After installing at least one major AC unit at our church, he installed 3 smaller units that are not compatible with the current power supply. Another contractor said he should have know they would not work properly for us. tried to call these people to have them service my ac. called 4 times, during business hours, within the span of 2 days and not once did anyone bother to answer the phone. when i finally did hear back from halls, i was told my entire ac unit was beyond repair and required a full blown replacement. as i never once seen a technician even come by my house, i was reasonably wary of this quote and as I was approaching a full week i had gone without ac in the blistering summer heatwaves here in Redding. So I called Redding Comfort where technician Chris promptly answered, even after all other hvac services in the area had closed for the day. Chris was more than willing to promptly set up an appointment the next day and in less than 12 hours, met with me at home, had a look at my ac unit, diagnosed the problem, gave me a reasonable quote, and had the whole thing fixed blowing ice cold air for my girlfriend, our cats and I. He even threw in an air filter as mine was long overdue for replacement. The absolute least Halls could've done here to receive a slightly better review is return my calls after I left multiple voicemails but they did not. On the other hand, my entire experience with Chris from Redding Comfort was extremely easy, fast, and inexpensive. read more

My AC stopped working yesterday so I called Hall's today to set up service. I was informed they do not specialize in manufactor homes. I was dumb founded by the reply because an AC unit in my home is the same as in any other home there is no difference. After contacting other companies everyone I spoke with agreed and said they never heard such a thing and it doesn't matter the type of home it's an AC unit with no difference. My home is very clean and not some trashed manufactor home and an AC unit is what it is a AC unit no different from any other house. At least other companies agreed with me and this company was the only one who does not specialize in an AC unit only because I live in a manufactor home. I noticed water leaking from my furnace and immediately I panicked and decided to call Halls, good thing I did!!! I was able to speak with the very professional and knowledgeable owner, Matt. He took the time to troubleshoot the issue with me and give me his direct phone line so that I could call him back after hours... I tried a few things to see if it worked. He was able to walk me through everything step by step and get it unclogged and didn't charge me a dime since I was able to resolve it on my own! Had a brand new out of the box HVAC unit installed by Matt and his crew. Matt is awesome, great personality, truthful, runs one hell of a crew, and what a crew they are! Installed in the heat of summer and thanked me for being a customer, really stand up bunch of guys. Everyone had a smile on their face and you could really tell they loved there job despite the heat. At one point there was an army of guys running around getting as much done as possible to get us our AC back up and running! Install was fast and painless and Matt even came back to make sure it was up to his standards of quality, and when it wasn't he had them come back to fix it to make it right. Why the 3 stars? This winter if it got below 30 degrees the heater simply didn't work. Called and had someone come out to take a look, but by that point it was over 30 outside and working just fine. Thinking it was the thermostat, I replaced it form the Nest to just a simple 7 day Honeywell and still nothing. Then I tried the one that Matt and his guys had, installed the Pro thermostat and still when the outside temp reached below 30 degrees me and my poor wife froze in the mornings until it warmed up. Couldn't get anyone to come out before the weather warmed up above 30, even after explaining the situation and trying to troubleshoot it. Guess after payment is made for services and you have money in hand customer service is out the window. Still isn't fixed with spring coming so I guess we will have to try next winter when the temp drops and call someone who can make it early enough that wants our business to make things right. read more

Hall's saved the day! And our weekend. Thursday we returned home from work and knew something was wrong... the house was hot! Our A/C had stopped working sometime during the day. I called Cascade first (they had served unit previously) and being after 5pm just got the answering service. Asked if they could send out a technician in the morning to take a look. Then I called Hall's based on the excellent Yelp reviews. Courtney returned my call first thing Friday morning and said Patrick would be available from 3-5pm and they would text me when he's on his way. (Cascade never even returned my message). As promised, I received a text at 3pm that Patrick was en route. He was professional and kind to our family. Although it took longer to fix the unit than he expected, Patrick did a thorough job and stayed until we had cold air for this weekend! The costs seemed fair and everything was explained up front. WATER POURING FROM OUR LAUNDRY ROOM CEILING!-But later found out that wasn't the worst damage they had done. DISASTROUS. We needed a new HVAC. We had a quote from Alliance but they were 5 weeks out, so we got a quote from Matt Hall, almost the same price, had seemingly good reviews and could do it in "one day" the next week "because he has so many install teams". It seemed good at first, the guys were nice, the system looked good and everything turned on. Within a week we tried to use the heater and it wouldn't turn on. Tim returned, fiddled with something in the attic, said "these wires sometimes come loose", and it then worked. The following Sunday, it started getting hot so we began running the AC, by late afternoon water started pouring from the ceiling of our laundry room (underneath our unit)! Water pouring from the light fixture and anywhere else it could escape from above. We had 5gal buckets trying to keep the floor from flooding. I made many urgent calls to Halls, getting more frantic as I emptied buckets. After a few hours, the tech called back and finally came over (requiring me to babysit his very active 6yr. old for 3 hours). He tried unsuccessfully to make repairs, until Tim also showed up. After trips to Home Depot and installing a type of sump pump in the attic, they finally said it was good, Tim said "even better". We were still very concerned (A BRAND NEW $$$$ UNIT!) it needed this pump for proper drainage?! It sounded like a garbage disposal kicking on constantly day and night above our ceiling. We finally climbed up and took a look, and were SHOCKED! It looked like a homeless camp. The water tray under the unit was hanging quite uneven, partially unattached, with trash and spare sheet metal connectors supporting it. There was left over junk everywhere (PVC, sheet metal, pipes, connectors, wood 2X4s, nuts, bolts), holes drilled into the side of the unit with no screws, the side of it dented in, sheet metal straps barely or unattached holding it up, cold air blowing from many exposed gaps, duct work that had been pristine was now smashed and stepped on, and wood supports to our trusses supporting our roof had been sawed out and were laying there. We made many, many calls to Matt Hall begging him to please come personally and inspect, finally he agreed the next Thursday. He climbed up, took out handfuls of leftover trash and parts the guys had left, agreed it could use a little more work but that the pump was a good thing and the only solution. We asked if different technicians could be sent, as we were now very skeptical of the original crew. He insisted he wanted the same guys to return so they could be embarrassed by their work and wanted ME to tell them that. We urged him to send someone else, he then said that was his "only install team". We then politely mentioned we would have to think about all this and it could lead to litigation. He then changed his tune and said he would see who else he could find to send over. He later emailed us to offer to send his office manager to do the repairs. We reached back out to Alliance, the owner, Martin, came personally to inspect. He did a thorough inspection (was shocked we passed the City of Redding inspection) and agreed to send a crew to correct the many problems he saw. T.J. and Duke were extremely professional and thorough. They worked for an entire day, dismayed by the shoddy work they encountered. They replaced the duct work Halls had damaged, reversed the 'coil' of the unit and rehung it properly and securely, had to reattach damaged sheet metal to the unit and bend it out from where Halls had crushed it in causing the interior insulation to be choking onto the coil (would have certainly been cause for failure soon), reconnect the PVC drainage that now would work since unit was mounted properly, and remove the sump pump, install a new part (I can't remember what it was called) that should have been replaced with the new unit but Halls had used our old part and poorly sealed it- that's why cold air was escaping from all sides and loose insulation kept blowing out of our vents into the house. While patching up many of the extra holes Halls had drilled into the unit, T.J. and Duke were alarmed to see that Halls had used very long screws into the sides of the new unit. Duke said only shorter screws should be used because longer ones can damage internal parts, which they found. They also did their best to repair our wood trusses. Duke said if Halls had just removed them from the staple plates (customary) it's easy to replace, but Halls had sawed them out!-and left them out. Alliance did contact Matt Hall for us and Matt agreed to pay their bill. We believe Matt Hall is a good guy, but his team is not the professionals we expected. We will always regret not waiting the 5 weeks for Alliance to do the job right the first time. Yes, this is the longest Yelp ever, but wanted to warn people, be careful. read more

Right away I noticed all the great ratings for Hall's, so I decided to give them a call. After hearing about the problem with our heater, Tim came out that same day. He spent a few hours here (after hours, I might add!) working on what the problem could be, explaining the process to us as well. They also had their own team walk me through the process of submitting my rebate form for my $600 REU credit. They had financing that I was able to use even though I don't have the best credit. Matt and his crew did a great job. We experienced a furnace failure - the unit was 14-15 years old. Matt gave us a very detailed description of the part failure, cost of repairs, options to consider and the price comparisons of replacing the unit. Our home has a split system, 2 ACs and 2 heaters. After much discussion, we decided to replace one-half of the system with new equipment. Matt was great to work with through this part of the process and was not trying to sell me one way or another. He gave me all the facts to consider and we elected to replace our units. The work was scheduled for the following week. The crew (very polite) showed up exactly on time, got started with laying down drop cloths inside and being careful to be clean and tidy. The crew worked hard all day (long day) and the job came out perfectly. The duct inspector tested the system right on time, the City of Redding inspector came the next day, along with Matt, to sign off on the job and the permits. One of the smoothest repairs we have ever had in our home. Hall's estimate was clear, we were charged exactly the amount listed. Hall's permit reps called me twice to help with rebate forms to make sure we had the rebate package filled out correctly. There are many options to choose in Redding. One thing is certain - we will definitely call Matt at Hall's for the second side of the system when the time comes. They are the real deal. read more
