Our AC bit the dust on the hottest day of the year, a couple days ago. We called a couple companies we had done business with in the past, and they regretfully weren't able to help us until the following week. We called Modern Comfort Solutions mid Friday morning and talked to Liz. They were able to squeeze us in Friday afternoon. Jim and Brandon came out and got us up and running again. We own a local dog hotel and had a couple elderly dogs who weren't faring well in the heat. We appreciated their fast response. Thank you Modern Comfort! Furnace blower stopped working with AC Condenser. Owner and technitian arrived as scheduled. Very Personable folks. Replaced the furnace capacitor for $170. Blower stopped working again after Modern left. I then purchased a new circuit board and installed it. This fixed the problem. Still works on heating and cooling 5 months later. You Tube can be very useful. read more

Modern Comfort Solutions is a very honest and competent HVAC service provider. Jim, the owner, diagnosed my air conditioning issue spot on and replaced a very leaky evaporator coil and properly recharged the system with the the right refrigerant. The rest of my HVAC is working fine. Jim is very knowledgable and experienced. His charges were reasonable and thousands of dollars less than other flawed estimates from other HVAC services who wanted to totally or partially replace the AC system. Great company! I have a home warranty so when my Air conditioner stopped working when it was 110 outside I contacted my warranty company right away and they said that Modern Comfort Solutions would be in contact within 2 business days. Since it was 110 out I couldn't imagine waiting 2 business days, so I called MCS and spoke with a really nice lady and told her the situation and she was able to get Jim (I believe the owner) out the very next day! I had a leak that I noticed in my ceiling and called modern comfort solutions they came out Fairly quickly. They were very professional and very friendly, they found the issue and fixed it. The cost was more than fair, especially for piece of mind. I also had a fire alarm on my high ceiling I couldn't reach that had been chirping forever, Jim was nice enough to get his ladder out and take the fire alarm down for me and would've been happy to put it back up but I didn't have a battery. That is going above and beyond and I am so thankful that I found a company that is caring that I can trust. We bought a house a few months ago, heater passed inspection but it was summer time, soon found out the heater wasn't working dealt with the homeowners company and another Heating service company for well over a month got into contact with Jim & his wife at Modern comfort and was absolutely not disappointed. I have a home warranty on a rental home in Redding, and my tenant, a sweet 85 year-old lady, called me to report that the air conditioner wasn't working. I called the warranty company and was told that Modern Comfort Solutions would be contacting me within 2 days. On the morning of the third day, having not heard from Modern Comfort Solutions, I called and left a message, indicating that my elderly tenant was without air conditioning (it is very hot in Redding). By that evening, I had still not heard from them, so I left yet another message. By the middle of the 4th day, I still had not received a return call, so I contacted the Home Warranty Company and they referred me to another vendor, Comfort Heating and Air, who had a technician fix the problem within 24 hours. Shame on Modern Comfort Solutions for their complete lack of responsiveness. read more

I'm 3 hours away and have a rental in Palo Cedro. J&L was recommended by a local for the heater which had quit working. They immediately (well, within 3 hours) responded and had the unit up and running in no time. They called me right away to explain the problem and did an on the spot repair for a more than reasonable price. Great response, great communication, great price. Jake did such a horrible job installing our HVAC system we had to fire him and hire another HVAC contractor to repair his mistakes and correct his faulty workmanship. Even the city inspector found several building code violations. Among them simple items any HVAC contractor should have known, such as having a wide enough attic access and having a proper cat walk to access the unit. This was after he told us he had finished the job. One contractor even suggested we start over with a whole new system. We filed suit against Jake for the costs incurred to repair his faulty workmanship and won a court judgement against him. He then promptly moved Redding, CA and filed for bankruptcy to avoid paying the judgement. This is not the type of person you want doing any kind of HVAC work for you. Don't make the same mistake. Save yourself a lot of grief and extra expense having to pay for someone else to come and do the job right. read more
