Wow. I could just say Wow and leave it at that but I won't. Richard did not disappoint with his restaurant Redd. Everything and everyone was amazing. We were lucky enough to score 8 p.m. reservations for tonight to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary. Parking is plentiful, their is some outdoor seating with umbrellas in front but they were not serving at those tables. It was very busy at 8 and at first it felt extremely loud but once seated conversation was not an issue. This is fine dining but it's not pretentious. We were welcomed by our server immediately and offered water if our choice and presented with wine and beer list and a cocktail menu. Our server shared with us his favorite cocktails. I'm a whiskey girl so I went with the Spicy Peach a combination of rye whiskey and peach and your choice of spiciness, mild, medium or hot and complete with a ring of jalapeño. My husband went with one of the servers favorites the Plum Rush a combination of gin, honey, plum, lemon and plum bitters. I stuck with the Spicy Peach for round two and my husband tried the Orange Whip which was a combination of rum, tequila, orange and ginger served in a martini glass. Nice decor modern and urban, exposed duct work, nice wood floors, candles on the table, heavy cloth napkins and nice weight silverware. Many of the seating areas are booths and combination booth and chairs which are really neatly upholstered in a tweed like fabric and leather on the booths. We started with two appetizers one of which was a nightly special pork belly on steamed buns with slaw. It came with 2 and they were generously portioned. The flavor and texture of the pork belly was phenomenal, really truly an experience for the taste buds. We also ordered the shrimp tempura off the starters. Excellent flavor with a hint of heat and a nice crunch to the tempura. Presentation was perfect. Your food is delivered as it's ready, the tempura came out first followed by the pork belly minutes later which was nice as it was hot and fresh. Our server was helpful with suggestions and knowledgeable about the menu. I went with the roasted chicken entree that was presented on a layering of mole, polenta and corn. The chicken was juicy and tender with a delightful crispy skin. The mole and polenta were so flavorful and the corn was so nice and sweet. My husband went with the halibut that was flavored with curry atop jasmine rice and clams with chorizo. Both dishes were amazing, my husband said it would be hard to not order the halibut again the second time if it is still in the menu. We also ordered an appetizer sized portion of the scallops to share. Two large and perfectly seared scallops on top of a mix of tiny cauliflower, capers, golden raisins and almonds. We passed on coffee as is was about 9:30 and they have a barista that makes excellent lattes I was told. We did save room for dessert and there were three choices this evening. We passed on the dark chocolate option and went with the butterscotch creme pot and the blondie. Both were good the butterscotch was light and airy and enough to share. The blondie was absolutely fabulous, great crispy texture nice sweet center with creme fresh in top. My hubby shared two small bites somewhat unwilling, kidding. We were not rushed, we felt like important guests and everything was perfect. Nice mood lighting, music and fresh decor. The wall of cookbooks and the mini cookbooks that hold your bill for dinner are pretty cute and unique. Lots of staff buzzing around and a few designated to making sure everyone is attended to and happy. We did see Richard coming out fo the kitchen to connect with some guests and he seemed calm, cool and collected. Our server said to stay tuned for lunch in the very near future and brunch is possible as well. We will definitely be back. I noticed all sorts of apparel in guests from dressy to casual. The serving staff are decked out in dark denim, chambray button downs and long aprons. This is an excellent place to celebrate or just come for the wood fired pizza and local beer. Prices are what I would expect and we closed out at $184 before tip, and we ordered quite a bit for the evening as we were excited to try many items. Go you won't be disappointed! Richard is James Beard and Michelin Star approved and he definitely had our vote. Thanks for coming back home Richard! read more
