Meh. Walked in on Saturday afternoon at 1:35. Waited for a table to open - maybe 3 minutes. Seated ourselves in a booth. Waited for someone/anyone to say "hi", "kiss my foot" or "what are you doing here". After a timed 5 minutes, we walked. Don't know if it was laziness, didn't care or arrogance but I/we cannot care, too. Food is good, when you get service it is nice but for this to happen three times, I'll vote with my money elsewhere. Awesome place. I'm a new arrival to this great State of Texas, on my way to San Antonio. Spent the night in Lubbock and found this gem. I got a sangwich for supper but it looks as if the specialty of the house is chicken fried steak. First thing I noticed when I pulled up and got outta the car was the wonderful smell. We have loved this place for years. But today we called in and ordered like we have done before and when we got home our order was wrong. I called and got a nice woman on the phone and she said no problem let me make this right. First let me check with the owner. She gets back on the phone and the owner said we had to bring the food back right then and prove it was wrong or they were not going to make it right. He would not fix it unless he had proof. I'm sorry but that is terrible customer service. They have lost loyal customers. New ownership is not good for this place! I'm sad they treat their customers this way. read more

Wow. There is absolutely nothing negative I can say about this place. A lot of locals eat here, and I mean a LOT. Which can only mean good things! First off, the staff is as accommodating as it can get at any restaurant. Never once had to ask for a refill, it was already done. Second, their FOOD! No matter if you get breakfast, mexican, chicken, or their jumbo burgers, you will leave thoroughly satisfied. Their sides are also spectacular. Third: this place is cheap as dirt. A burger is around $3.50 and most dishes are no more than $5-6. Can't beat quality food for that price anywhere in this city. This place deserves your money, give it a shot! read more

I ate here A LOT during college. The food is so cheap and delicious. It's classic diner chow at it's best. I think I loved everything on the menu, although I never tried the Mexican dishes. The way they make their green beans with bacon and tomatoes is my standard for good, southern-style green beans. If it isn't cooked like that, it's only so-so in my book. What a gem!!! Thanks to Yelp again. Went for breakfast and the place was very busy. Waited on immediately, looked at the menu and the waitress was right back to get our order. I didn't time it, but I'd say we had our food in 5-6 minutes and it was delicious. Eggs were perfect over easy, my omelette was exactly as I ordered it. Horrible customer service ! Placed a order at 430 for 6 pickup they didn't even have the order on the books to cook. Said they looked at the wrong clock finally got the order got it home missing serval items . Called manager said basically tough it's fish Friday they are busy . Kind of a fun place to eat in Lubbock, but dang, we were really hoping for a place with beer or wine. You'd think from the decor (pretty much all Tech Red Raider sports stuff) that it'd be a cool college hangout, but no, no alcohol served. Bummer. Anyway, food was pretty good in that West Texas sort of way (fried catfish, burgers, etc). Nothing to write home about, but fills you up. The food was good, but in this age of COVID I was very disappointed to see the staff didn't care enough about their customers to take precautions. The cooking staff wore no masks or gloves, the wait staff wore masks but didn't cover their noses so the mask did no good, and the lady on cash register didn't bother to put a mask on at all. The food is excellent. The wait is long. Everyone crowds right at the door waiting for a table. Staff does great job of getting your name on the list and as soon as a table is open you are seated. Unfortunately the kitchen is right next to the wait line and cooking grease is quite thick in the air. When you leave you will definitely smell like cooking grease. A bit uncomfortable trying to enjoy your food sitting at a table literally 1-3 feet from the waiting line all of whom are staring at you while you take each bite. read more

Very disappointed by Red Zone Cafe today. I called in to place an order to pick up curbside, as they advertise you can do on their Facebook page during this Coronavirus time. The woman on the phone was very short and didn't understand me calling in for a curbside order. She said I'd have to go through the drive thru to pick-up. I was trying to limit interaction as much as possible with curbside, but whatever. I place my order, she doesn't give me a total, makes me repeat my name three times (it's Traci) and just says we'll see you in 10 minutes. Got to the drive-thru, waited behind 3 other cars (another reason I wanted to do curbside), got to the window, had to repeat my name 4 times, and the woman, who sounded exactly like the woman on the phone, couldn't find my order. Her and another woman told me I must have called Tech Cafe. I said no, I called Red Zone. They looked and me and shrugged. No offer to make my order, nothing. I just said whatever, thanks for nothing and left. Horrible customer service!! And I've eaten there before, their food is fine, not any better than what I could make at home, and certainly not good enough to deal with that horrible customer service. read more

Stopped in here a few times for class lunches. Atmosphere: from the exterior, it looks like a bar in a strip mall. However, when you go in, it's actually a quite large restaurant. To the left of the entrance is the cashier and food prep areas. To the right is the main dining area. Each time we went, it was seat yourself, so we never had to wait. The first time I visited, I was a little put off by the fact that nearly a quarter of the unoccupied tables still had dirty plates on them. I saw one cleaner who was moving extremely slow. The next time I went in with the class, the number of uncleared tables was much lower. Staff: the wait staff was overall very friendly and helpful. They were generally attentive, though one of them was pretty absent-minded. I had varying degrees of experience with the staff: from great to mediocre. The food came far faster than I expected every time...it seemed like it was 5 minutes or less for each order. Food: since I ate here several times, I had a chance to order a few different items. They do not have a huge selection, but it is varied. I never ordered the specials, but did have liver & onions (edible), country fried steak (very good), and hamburger (okay). If I had received a consistent amount of very good meals, I would be happy to give a higher rating. Why go so often? Well, the price can't be beat unless you go to a fast food restaurant, and the students more often than not requested lunch there. read more

We ate here while in town for a tech game. Took the son and met his new girl. Great little place for home-cooking and friendly service. We were greeted promptly and she was very friendly. She was worried more about the wait than we were. After a few minutes we got seated and the waitress came right over to get our order. When the food came out , they did forget one order for our party of 6. Our biscuits were hard as a rock but were immediately replaced with fresh ones without hesitation and the missed order brought out as well. The food was good and service even better. Controlled chaos! When you first walk in you find this place a little overwhelming. The layout is open and appears a little busy but there is a system. Find an open table for your group. Your menu should be on your table, check the wall for the days special (usually your best bet). Your server will be by to get your drink order and food order if you already know what you want. This place functions like a well oiled machine. It's rare to find mistakes. They are happy to try to make adjustments and fix the rare mistake. Even if you've ordered something you decided you don't like, just be sure to let them know. Lovely staff. Sit closer to the back if you want a little more quiet. They do have two separate rooms you can ask to use for larger groups. read more

Was so hot it was hard to pick up and the meat was tasty and hand formed. No frozen pre made patty. The onion rings were delicious and a large serving of them.
