My guy and I had a late breakfast here yesterday..he's a regular but my first time and loved it..place was crowded which speaks volumes but we found a table in the back corner..service was great..example..we both ordered coffees and no clean mugs but they had styafoam ones which were fine with us but then later she brought out real mugs..we turned them down but thought that was great service..I got a small plate with an egg bacon and biscuit..delicious while he got his usual which is a Mexican omelette and bacon and an extra piece of toast..we both cleaned our plates and I know he and his son were there again this morning..yeah, it's that good! read more

So what's the point in ordering ahead of they're not even going to make it until you arrive? Food was okay, but I asked for gravy on the side and it was not. I go to Red Zone Cafe everytime I visit Lubbock! The food is delicious and the service is awesome! For breakfast, you can't go wrong with hot buttered biscuits, grilled ham steak and yummy oatmeal! All of it is delicious! For lunch and dinner, I have had the pork chops, salad with homemade ranch and pot roast. All my meals have been so tasty. The service here is terrific! We called ahead by days for a group of 12. After an extended wait, we were seated in a cramped back room. Several minutes went by before they brought menus and silverware. Drink orders were taken, and when delivered, some were in glasses, and some served in foam cups. There was no sugar or sweetener on the table, and we were never offered a refill the entire time we were there, and we weren't checked on until she brought the checks. I have been here several times and they always seem to have a great crowd and seem to always been somewhat crowded. The waiters are very attentive and they bring out the food very quick. The food is amazing and very large portions too. I always have left overs and the price you can't beat it!! Such good price for the quality of food you get. I'm a long-time customer of Red Zone Cafe; it has been one of my favorite Lubbock eateries since before Covid. I eat there on average at least once a week. Food is consistently good as is the service for the most part. However, I think some of their pricing policies are borderline exploitive. Today I ordered the double meat hamburger combo, which comes with a drink. This combo is already $10 without any cheese (which they're getting a whopping dollar a slice for now). So you're looking at $12 plus tax plus tip for a freaking double cheese burger combo. They are frequently short on normal drink glasses. In the past I've had waitresses serve my drink in a styrofoam cup (large) instead of a glass, this without asking me if I wanted it that way or saying anything else before it was served. I actually prefer a normal glass but the styrofoam cup is OK too. I always assumed that would NOT affect the price. However, today I happened to hear the dinners next to me ask the waitress about their drink order and the waitress said it would be $0.40 extra for a to-go cup; I didn't think much of it but subconsciously must have assumed they were not ordering a combo that comes with a drink. Shortly after my drink was served in a pee-wee plastic glass (the kind you expect to see for a small water). I remarked to the waitress about the small glass and she said they were out of regular glasses. I said how about a styrofoam cup? She brought me an another Diet Coke in a large styrofoam cup. I assumed there would be no change in the price of my combo because TO MY KNOWLEDGE they never had been before. I got to thinking about it for a sec and when I saw the waitress again I asked her about it. She said there indeed would be a 40 cent up-charge. I told her to take the damn styrofoam cup back and I'd get by with the pee-wee cup! I wonder if in the past when I've had my drink served in a styrofoam cup I've been up charged without knowing it, or whether this is a new policy, or what? Obviously 40 cents is no big deal in itself; it's the principle of the thing. Being nickel and dimed (quite possibly without knowing it) at every turn is insulting! Also, if they can't keep enough normal glasses clean to serve a soda properly they shouldn't be charging extra for a styrofoam cup used instead! I'll remain a loyal customer because of all the positives of dining at the Red Zone Cafe, but this experience certainly tarnished that relationship to a degree. read more

Red Zone is a well rounded cafe, all the food is fried, deep fried or they do have grilled chicken. The chicken fried Steak clams to be hand breaded, but it is frozen and deep fried. Red Zone Cafe (formally Tech Cafe) is the kinda place where the same people seem to go all the time. Our waitress called about a dozen people by name and seemed to know what they wanted to order. There is a huge turnover of people because they are so quick to serve, so if a table isn't immediately available give it a few minutes and a couple will open up. Just about everything on the menu is good but I tend to order breakfast regardless of what time of day I'm here. The omelettes are pretty good size and come with a decent helping of hash browns, but I prefer to order a sampler plate that comes with my choice of eggs, choice of meat, hash browns, and white or wheat toast. This is alot of food but every once in a while I decide that I also need a pancake to go along with the sampler, a move that is always delicious. I tried this place on a late Sunday morning before heading back home. I had looked at the reviews and they were all good. This place was packed but we sat immediately. Our waitress came by as soon as we were seated and was very friendly. The prices were what amazed me - it was like a 20 year throwback! I wanted to get the chicken fried steak and eggs for $7.79, yes you read that right, but I was not that hungry. I wound up getting the 3 egg Mexican omelet for about $6 that came with hash browns and toast. The food order arrived within minutes, I had not even finished a cup of coffee yet. At that price I should have just gone with my first choice, but I will get that next time. The food was good, the staff very attentive and friendly. I will definitely be going back here. read more

From all the other reviews, I wonder if we went on a bad day?? It was busy when we went in for breakfast, but we were seated relatively quickly. Someone offered to refill my coffee a few minutes after it was poured -- and then I had to flag someone down 10 minutes before we left for my second cup. Our food was delivered pretty fast, but the chicken fried steak was tough and tasteless. I didn't even bother finishing mine. The saving grace was the peach smuckers jam -- how sad is that! Our waitress was nice, but I feel like we saw her twice. We were checked on several times before our food came, and then we were ignored. Didn't fuss to the manager because I didn't want her to get in trouble (it WAS busy, but she barely even came to our side), but I was really disappointed. This was our second time coming, and we remembered the chicken fried steaks as big and juicy (and tasty!). Oh well. We might give it a third shot in the future. read more

Red Zone is a hidden gem! No matter how long the line is, they will have you seated within 5-10 minutes. The employees are EXCEEDINGLY efficient and hard working. When they are busy they actually help each other refill drinks or deliver food. The owner consistently pitches in to help and makes sure everything is clean and taken care of. The food is great - just good ol home cookin, nothing fancy, just good. Try the eggs ranchero - it is the best! In a city with a ton of chain restaurants, Red Zone stands out with a friendly atmosphere and good food. When you go they treat you like family. I ate here once back in 2009 and to this day I still think about something that happened during my visit. I went in for dinner after I got off work one evening and I was the only person there. As I was eating there was some kid wandering around the restaurant. I was hoping he would leave me the hell alone, but sure enough he came right up to my table and started talking to me. He was probably about 14 years old, rotund, and he said his brother worked there too (implying he was an employee himself?). He then proceeded to tell me that he and his brother HATE Texas Tech students. They HATE when they come to the restaurant, they HATE serving them, and they HATE Texas Tech Football and everything about the university. He gave no real explanation as to why he held such disdain for the school. I let him talk while I finished my dinner before informing him that I was, in fact, a student at Texas Tech University. The look on his portly face was priceless. How could he, a Texas Tech hater, have misjudged someone so badly? I'm not sure why this interaction stuck in my mind so vividly all these years, but it did. I'd just like to say that the food was good enough that I would have eaten there again had it not been for this dipshit kid someone let wander around the dining area bothering customers while they are trying to eat. read more
