It seems this place has been there forever... Very nice place if you're looking for a quick cold/hot sandwich and/or hot plate lunch. Always packed with fast and friendly service!

Let me tell you something guys eat out a lot and when you're in New Orleans, you're looking for lunch you want something absolutely delicious. It's not gonna cost you a fortune. There is no other place that can touch the red barn. Incredible pole, roast beef meatloaf everything they make absolutely fresh and delicious, including the crispy Leidenheimer bread, obviously it's my favorite place to eat in the city. It's way past the UEP Long bridge on Jeff Highway but it's definitely worth the trip. Oh by the way cash only enjoy enjoy.

There is no better bang for your buck than Red Wagon. It unfortunately closes early for late dinner people, but it is worth going out of your way to get food from here! I order large and I can make it into two additional meals. Vintage feel inside.

Delicious shrimp . Great batter and flavor.

How long has this place been here. My God! It is heaven! We ventured out here for lunch on day. We walked into the restaurant which is part grocery store with bulk items like sams club sized mayonnaise which is also heavenly. Their menu consists of breakfast food and new orleans seafood. I opted for the shrimp plate that comes with a salad and a side. We also got a large order of cheese fries. The hubby got the large fried Fish poboy. There is small and large. This is the part where you may want to READ the actual size of this baby. While the hubby went to pay, I sat down at a table for us. I happened to sit near an adorable little old lady and she giggled as she saw the expression on my face when the hubby's poboy - which was the size of a submarine - was being delivered to my table. The little old lady said, first time here? I laughed with her and told her I was gonna get a pic of his face when he turns to see the size of the thing. And I did. And we both laughed again. The hubby was pleased with his food, he had left overs. The fries was also an enormous portion and had left overs. I enjoyed the flavors of the fried shrimp. Very good. The salad was not a salad though, it's just lettuce on the plate. This place is in a great area with lots of food options nearby. I really loved this establishment and the funny memory that was made. We will for sure be back. And yes, we are gonna order the large again!

    Hot sausage poboy

I ordered a hot sausage poboy from Red Wagon with my customary request ( fry the patty hard). I expected a Paton hot sausage patty. However I was greatly surprised when I took a bite and realized that the patties were made in house. The poboy was truly the best hot sausage that I ever had. I will be spread the word. Thank you Red Wagon.

    Shrimp Poboy

Unequivocally one of the best bang for your buck poboys you can get basically anywhere. The shrimp poboy was pretty standard but with the portions and price, without a doubt money WELL spent. Tons of food for half the price of most overpriced poboys today, cannot recommend enough. The staff are super nice and conversational, and overall the place has that small town grocery-restaurant sort of appeal that you dont really see much anymore. Also its cash only.

Friend of mine who lived here for 67 years told me about this place. And I think I agree that this place has the best fried shrimp po boy. The batter is not light, but is seasoned just right for delicious fried shrimp, put that in a soft but crusty French bread with tartar sauce and you've got a winner! It was amazing. I had the standard roast beef and it was great as well, I think I can eat the 16" large one no problem. It was crowded with no parking and waited long time for the food to come out. But, it was all worth it. Great place, too bad I don't live close.

This building might be considered by some a shack, and it certainly is a bar. However, it also serves up some amazing food. It's historic inside as well as outside, having classic signs, posters, and other New Orleans memorabilia displayed on virtually every surface, including the ceilings. Also noteworthy are their barstools, which have amusing legs attached. The interior is rather dark, even in the middle of the day, but don't let this deter you. Your eyes will quickly adjust. This might be an advantage if your visit is to engage in day-drinking! However, if your visit is to eat, first look for the board displaying the Daily Special. These are a great choice and may include things not normally on the menu. Variety is the spice of life and all... However, the menu is adequate for most any purpose. There are a great variety of sandwiches, wraps, salads, plates, and appetizers! I like that the sandwiches can be customized with sides. One can swap out regular fries for sweet potato fries, or there are really great and crispy tater tots! One can even opt for a bowl of gumbo or soup! Some of these changes involve a slight up-charge, but are worth it. Speaking of the soups and gumbos, these are really great choices. I happened to be there when French Onion Soup was part of the daily special, and it was amazing! Had a great big toasty chuck of bread with cheese on top, and the soup was rich and delicious. Their gumbo is a substantial choice, with great and deep flavors. I also recommend their BLT, which pairs well with a bowl of soup. The waitstaff is friendly and helpful and the prices are fair. This place is an experience that one should have while in the area. It's definitely a place you'll want to return to!

There's a decent sized parking lot here and the interior and outside grounds are very well kept. We chose to sit outside, plenty of seating with shade for most. Starting off with shrimp toast and heirloom tomatoes was a good start to our lunch experience. I ordered the chicken sandwich and my wife got the fresh pasta. We were blown away by both dishes. Juicy chicken with peppers on ciabatta bread and fries to write home about. The pasta was in pesto that seemed freshly made and the grilled chicken thighs we added was fantastic. Thoroughly impressed with the food here but only second to our waiter as far as the total experience. It was a bearded young gentleman, I didn't catch his name but he took care of us and was very attentive. Completely impressed with this establishment and I'd recommend any and all to check this place out.

I worked in the service industry. I know tips matter and I rarely and by rarely, I mean I can count the number of times I have NOT tipped on one hand. I nearly did not tip. I had two sides of beans and a side of rice with stale chips and salsa because they had no fajitas. But my GOD was the bartender/server THE worst. She came and asked me WHY I hadn't paid yet and I said OH because I ordered a drink 17 minutes ago and you haven't given it to me. Ugh. What a waste of MONEY and time. Complete BS. It is a large space with a long bar as you walk in. When I went, the host/tess was located all the way inside the restaurant, so you walk the length of the restaurant to be greeted and seated by the host. I made my way down to her and she seated me right away. I asked for a water and an Irish coffee. She was not sure they had the glassware for an Irish coffee, but she checked with the bartender. And he was able to conjure up something as I was the first person to ask for one. I was a little surprised by that since they offer Irish breakfasts, but either way, I was very appreciative of his going above and beyond for me to make it work. He even asked which whiskey I wanted and had to search for some brown sugar for me. Very accommodating. The Irish breakfast came out and it was so good. The chef came out to speak with me too, I let him know I loved everything but the beans. He mentioned he was trying it out, as it is authentic, but knows it could be tweaked. I did love the marmalade, homemade marmalade on the dish, so good! I enjoyed the sausage - bangers and pudding - as well. So authentic and good! I felt like I was back in Ireland. Just needed some sheep to bahhh by. I do wish the hostess/waitress would have checked in on me more, my water was never refilled and I needed napkins as I had sticky fingers from that amazing marmalade jam. I plan to come back and bring some friends or out of friends, as I miss my Peppermill and this restaurant, I find, is a pretty good replacement - with Irish coffees and all. And proceeds go towards charity. How great is that! I hope they made the Irish coffee a permanent option on the menu before I come back!
