Another 5 Star review, two in one day...man have gotten soft or just had a couple really good experiences? No, just good experiences!! In town for work and found this on Yelp, love that! Took an uber here since I wanted to have a few cocktails and it was really the food that sold it for me, had a glass of wine since it became all about the food once we sat down! I will start by saying we had the best server I have had in a very long time! She was a great salesperson, knew the menu and what to recommend and the kitchen did not disappoint from what she was telling us! This was such a find. Small little family place, great food, great service and then more great food with more great service! We started with the Crawfish Boudin...delicious!! Followed those up with some grilled oysters with crab meat and cheese....I was getting full so did a 1/2 oyster po-boy which was huge, delicious and huge! some Hush-puppies thrown in, some wine...man...everything was amazing! I have only been here once, for a sendoff lunch for a coworker who is retiring. A coworker who has lived in Harahan all her life recommended Charles for our group. Perfect! We had ten people at lunch and the whole experience was wonderful. Zero complaints.(!) They were able to seat us all together in a separate room. The service was great despite the large party. Our waitress was organized and efficient. Glasses never got empty and she kept the meal well paced and moving. She was very friendly and answered all our questions. At the close of the meal, she offered to divide the bill up into separate checks(!). I think there were about five checks total for the entire group. The food was very good. I had a daily special which was BBQ shrimp & Jambalaya Grits. If you wonder what Jambalaya Grits are, think "jambalaya with grits instead of rice". It came with a little side salad that was cold and fresh. Onion rings and firecracker shrimp appetizers were tasty and very nicely done. Anecdote: coworker says that all the locals call this place "Charlie's" even though it is actually "Charles Seafood" like it says. Whatever you want to call it, I call it great. I had seen a review of Charles Seafoid and social media and they really enjoyed it so decided to check it out. We went for lunch and the restaurant looks nice from the inside and the service is decent, although it did take a while for us to get seated. once the order was placed, the food came out very quickly. we ordered the onion rings and charbroiled oysters to start and then the Charlie seafood platter plus shrimp poboy for the main; the platter came with salad and gumbo. the portions are huge - the onions to the platter to the poboy were in big portion size. while the portions were big, flavor and seasoning was a bit lacking. the seafood in the platter were big pieces but the breading and the seasoning was lacking for our tastes. standouts included big portion size and the seafood gumbo. read more

I had this place for the first time at work and came again with my husband. They serve consistently good food. Both times I got the Cajun shrimp burger cooked medium, easily one of the best burgers I've ever had. We also got the jambalaya grits for the side and they were really good. Staff were all nice and helpful, very hole in the wall feel which we liked. read more

While on the prowl for fried fish, I stopped here to give this place a try. There was a little crowd forming at the entrance waiting to be seated.  The lady seating people was on the move. She cleared the entrance  relatively quickly, and we were seated almost immediately. The  restaurant has a family-friendly and hometown feel to it. I was greeted by several of the wait staff just in passing, which was great. They all were very pleasant. My waitress Loraline was awesome and attentive. She took my order almost as soon as I was seated. I ordered the fried trout platter and an Arnold Palmer. They have a fully stocked bar, but I opted out this time. My wait time was understandable ( about 25 minutes) given the volume they were dealing with. Most of the tables were filled, and there were also call-in orders that they were handling. This is a nice size restaurant with comfortable and excellently spaced seating. It's very clean also. When my food came out, my fish looked appealing with the garnish of lemon on top. However, I was disappointed at the portion. One piece of standard size fish and a few fries.  For $20, the portion was not enough for the price.  I was quite ready to eat, and l started slicing away before I remembered ( oh yeah, a picture). It was tasty enough. It satisfied my fried fish craving in the moment. read more

Can you say onion ring heaven? I don't know how I haven't dined here before but that's been a very big mistake. This place is great, the food is delicious, and the service is laid back and cool. We ate here with a group of 6, was supposed to be a group of 8 but 2 couldn't make it. We had made reservations too by the way. It was a lenton Friday so the place was packed even at 5:30. Not really an easy to find parking space outside. But that's a really great sign when you're dinning at a restaurant right? So we were seated immediately. And greeted with smiles. I was very impressed and grateful when they allowed us to split checks since that never happens in the nola area. They made sure our drinks were filled. We were there a total of 2 hours but we were a group of 6 after all. One ordered Royal red shrimp which is one of my favorite shrimp dishes and he said they were pretty darn good. And I ordered the blackened fish and had some of the fried fish and onion rings. Those onion rings are HUGE. You really don't need to order more than one order. There were maybe 15 fairly big sized onion rings fried to perfection. Everything on the menu said seasoned to perfection, but I say fried to perfection because the star food was the fried onion rings and the fried fish. I loved the decor; it was all fun seafood themed. It's not a big place but they can at least accommodate 8. And like I said parking may be an issue. I already plan to go back with my mom for more of those onion rings. The return of a classic seafood restaurant location with new ownership that still honors New Orleans traditional seafood classics along with some good Italian dishes. Fresh, live, fried and boiled seafood is offered along with alligator. Stopped in for dinner Saturday night, hoping softshells were on the menu. Lucky me. We started with 1/2 lb royal reds served with garlic butter. These lobsterlike shrimp are never a letdown. My utmost favorite restaurant. Never had a bad dish ever. From the seafood, the muffalettas, hamburger steak, pasta... every dish is great! If you are an artichoke person, try the stuffed artichoke soup. You won't be sorry! And the jambalaya grits...melts in your mouth! Fresh and hot and always great! Can I please give more than 5 stars! Our meal this evening at Charles Seafood was truly memorable. I can't say enough about how wonderful the experience was. I'm originally from New Orleans and come back often. Forget going to the famous restaurants in the Quarter. The real dining experience in New Orleans is in neighborhood restaurants. You will never find one better than Charles in Harahan! My wife and I joined friends we've known for ages to eat at Charles. We got seated right away because we had reservations. Make them if you're planning on going. This place is where locals go! Our waitress Leslie could not have been better. Her suggestions for what to order were spot on, her humor infectious and her attentive service fantastic. I hope you have her serve you. We ate 5 pounds of crawfish, 2 pounds of boiled shrimp and a dozen charbroiled oysters. Actually there were 2 kinds of shrimp. One that tasted like lobster. Bourbon pecan pie for dessert. By that point anything Leslie recommended we ordered. And glad we did. The charbroiled oysters were just okay but everything else was perfect. Also I recommend the Mo-Jack beer from Abita. Probably misspelled. We all had such an enjoyable evening. Even magical. If you want a real New Orleans eating experience, definitely try Charles Seafood. read more

I went to Charles a few weeks ago when my mom was craving crawfish. I wasn't very much in the mood for crawfish so I decided to split something I hadn't had in a long time, fried soft shell crabs. They're my favorite seafood but they can be so expensive so I never end up getting them. Well, I'm so glad I decided to spilt the platter with my aunt because I can say that they were some of the best I have had in New Orleans. They were a pretty big size and I loved the fry they fried them in. I also tried some of the crawfish that were pretty good but a little too spicy for my liking. The servers were so nice and patient with our big table and I love how cute, clean, and new the inside looked! It was also bright inside when I find some places dim their lighting which I'm not a fan of. I will definitely be back to try some more of their seafood dishes! read more

Great Service and "most" things came out truly hot.. However, if you were thinking about getting a MUFFULETTA there, skip it.. The bread isn't toasted as it should, was barely warm when served and the sandwich doesn't have the proper quality combinations of meats and cheese upon it to be a TRUE Muffuletta and oh my goodness, the olive salad applied was so meager, that the only thing you really tasted in their version was the bread and olive oil.. My wife and I went on a Saturday and were sat in the small back room. The only times our server came to our table was to deliver food. She never asked how our food was. Never checked on drinks. We had to go find her to get the check. Now, on the flipside the food was fantastic. The house cut and battered onion rings were awesome. We also had a shrimp poboy. Perfectly battered and cooked. Finally! After hours of "New Orleans" restaurant research and reading endless reviews, Lisa and I just concluded we needed a new avenue of discovery. It was then I met my "Bon Ami" Weasel (Dave), a local resident in River Ridge LA. After a thorough discussion on the farming and the harvesting of the native crawfish, he suggested Charles Seafood on Jefferson Highway and we are so happy he did! ALLONS! As it is the beginning of crawfish season, we took a trip out to this little hideaway. Parking is not too bad, as the street is large enough to accommodate. Our server Araina was cute, lively, and very friendly. She was very enthusiastic to teach us about the local culture and cuisine when she learned we were from out of town. Lisa decided on the original muffuletta. I went with the NOLA muffuletta. We split a pound of crawfish (mud bugs) and the seafood filé gumbo. FIVE STARS! The portions are huge. The crawfish were served cold and absolutely delicious, as well as seasoned perfectly. "Pinch da tail, suck da head!" The NOLA is roasted beef, thick and tender, debris "dressed", and served on a crispy toasted sesame seed roll. The original version is a healthy portion of ham, salami, cheeses, and comes with an olive salad topping that is absolutely amazing. The seafood gumbo is one of the best I've ever had. They seem to employ an adequate amount of staffing and everyone seemed satisfied with the quality of the service. The atmosphere is very delightful and the floral aromas are really quite pleasant. (No fishy smells). The multi level dining areas are very clean and comfortable with quaint decor. If you "wanna pass good time" and enjoy authentic local LA cuisine and maybe a "Lagniappe" then I say check out Charles Seafood. "Laissez Les Bon temps rouler"! read more
