I had not been inside this spot in a very long time. VERY. But I was taking my parents to an early dinner after a health appointment and we wanted to try a new spot AND I remember that they were already advertising crawfish at a good price so off we went. The crawfish were really good. Small but that's to be expected this early in the season (end of January) but really good seasoning. Spicy but not too spicy. And they had potatoes and corn if we needed. Dad got a fried oyster plate and the oysters were huge. Mom got the grilled trout platter and she said the fish was delicious. I had the shrimp remoulade salad with grilled shrimp and it was huge and OK. The remoulade was really good but I would have preferred boiled shrimp and next time I would do fried. Plus the shrimp were small, but there were plenty of them. Service was... disorganized but sweet. There were so many people wandering around, but our crawfish came out before we got waters/tea. The entrees came out and we hadn't been given silverware. Everything was rectified but it was just weird. Ambiance is dated and looks pretty much the same as the last time I was in there... as I said it's been a long time. So...it's never really busy here. Underneath is the restaurant and above is an Inn...hence the name. Parking is minimal but enough for the customers that come. It's in the Jeff hwy area and this area is known for retired folks. This is my second time here. It's cute. There's a salad/soup bar for $7.95. I haven't tried that yet. I have gotten the calamari twice now. I like it a lot! It's crunchy but not chewy. There a marinara sauce, both calamari and sauce are dusted with parmesan cheese. Fried pickles is what I expect from fried pickles. Nothing too special. We also tried the stuffed artichoke! It's good! I've never had one before. Some leaves were edible. When you make your way to the middle, that's where all the edible petals are. It has a really good stuffing. Flavorful. The main reasons I come here is for their Wed/Sat night specials...$5.95 for a dozen raw oysters! Yummy! Can't go wrong with that!!! Lots of lemon wedges, salt and pepper...and go to town. We stopped in for dinner the night after my wife had gone for boiled seafood with some of her friends. She had raved about the quality of the boiled seafood. We started dinner with some char broiled oysters. My wife thinks the oysters were bigger than those at Drago's last couple of times she ate there. They were good. The rest of dinner for my wife consisted of boiled crab and crawfish. That's why we went. She liked it all, steaming hot and not too spicy. I ordered the fried shrimp plate. (They also serve a platter which is basically a double order of fried shrimp.) Nice size shrimp, lightly battered, slightly seasoned. Cole slaw and fries were my choice of sides. Service from Candice was excellent. The restaurant is split into two large rooms, it was busy, but not packed. There was a steady flow of people coming and going. This is a very popular spot in the area with their offering of boiled crawfish, crabs and shrimp along with raw oysters and chargrilled oysters. Seafood is also offered in the fried variety and the softshell crabs are nice. The menu also offers pizza, pasta, muffuletta, and po boys with one if the best options being Thursday steak night, They offer a lunch buffet that includes salad bar, pizza, veggie of the day and cobbler. As a great bonus there is also a nice selection of 80's video games. Overall this seems like a family friendly neighborhood joint that will have something to make most folks happy at a decent value and allow the adults to enjoy some adult beverages. read more

DO NOT ORDER TAKEOUT CRAWFISH FROM HERE!!! First let me start off with saying that I understand that last night was the first Friday of Lent, and I understand they would be busy. I called to order 7lbs of crawfish to go. They tell me to just come in and place the order and they bag them up then. 40 minutes after I get there and have been waiting to place an order, I ended up leaving without any crawfish, because the staff behind the to-go counter are SUPER UNORGANIZED! I have never seen anything like this before at any other restaurant in my life. The lady that was supposed to be bagging up crawfish would just disappear for 10-15 minutes before she would come back with any crawfish. The register that was at the to go counter was being used by multiple waitresses to place orders for the people who were dining in, but not one of them acknowledged that there was a small group of people gathered around waiting to place a to go order. After i realized how long I had been standing in line, I left and placed an order to go on the phone for crawfish from Charles'. Not only did they take my order over the phone, but they bagged the crawfish up when I arrived and I was out of there in less than 3 minutes. read more

The boiled crawfish are exceptional and trust me, I am an official connoisseur! All of the appetizers we ordered, cheese sticks, fried eggplant medallions and fried mushrooms were really good. Everything else is mediocre. The prices were reasonable as well. The service was comical to put it nicely. I would write a novel on how bad of a server she was but to me, it goes along with the place. The decor hasnt been updated since the 1970's with the exception of the ceramic tiles. We came to the conclusion during our 20 minute wait, they were most likely put in after the 1995 May flood. There is a decent sized room in the rear that looks like a new addition but I havent had the pleasure of eating back there yet. Crawfish: $2.49/lb. steamed and very fresh. Grilled oysters: $8.50/half-dozen. Abita Amber (draft): $3.75. Entire bill with a dozen raw, half dozen grilled, two pounds crawdads, and two drafts: less than $30. Fight the math. I dare you. Seriously, though, the specials were amazingly priced, the food was incredibly fresh and thus exceedingly delicious, and the service, despite how busy it was, was still above par. I don't know what more you could ask for in a restaurant. Diner looking shack? Yeah. So? You want fancy walls and bleached tablecloths every time you go out? Fine, go for it, spend $250 at one of John Besh's joints and come away hungry. Or, drop like a tenth of that and leave full and just as a satisfied as you would be at Besh's place(s). We went last night with 3 other couples. The waitress was extremely rude! The food was cold. Our calamari app with spaghetti sauce and our sons spaghetti sauce tasted awful and dark in color. I had spaghetti sauce with my sandwich that was more red and didn't taste bad. So I'm unsure if maybe they served a CHILD old spaghetti sauce and I had new spaghetti sauce?! Luckily we got his taken off the check since he only took 1 bite and spit it out and this child NEVER spits food out, especially spaghetti. Today however, we are all suffering from stomach cramps. I had a little belated birthday dinner here with my parents tonight and we ordered one dozen raw oysters, one dozen chargrilled, one large soup of gumbo and 3 lbs of crawfish... needless to say, we ate everything. The bill was $50 for the three of us - not bad. If you come here on a Wednesday or Saturday they have $4 dozen oysters, or at least that's what the Gambit said. Like other reviewers, I was probably the youngest person in the room during lunch. Or at least my group of coworkers were at least 30 years younger than the other patrons. It has no real bearing on the food, service, or rating really it's just an interesting footnote. The rest of my work companions got the "buffet". I use that word lightly since it was a meager soup/salad bar, two pizzas, and fried catfish. That's pretty much it on the buffet, but you can have as much as you want. I decided instead to order the muffuletta. I have some pretty high standards for muffuletta. My great-grandfather was from Sicily and opened a bakery/deli on Metairie Road years and years ago. I great up with home made olive salad, high quality meats and cheeses, and fresh baked braided Italian loaf or muffuletta for my bread. Thankfully, Village Inn does it right. The bread was the right crispiness, the sandwich warmed perfectly to soften the provolone, and the ingredients of a good quality. I'd definitely come back for another half. So, if you're in River Ridge you can get a good muffuletta here, but I'd skip the buffet. read more

I am a frequent patron of the VILLAGE INN. The menu has a wide variety of entrees ranging from creole,italian,and american it is cooked fresh everyday. If you have children they provide games for them to play before and while you eat. I recently went to get crawfish with friends from out of town. I am born and raised in New Orleans, La. and this restaurant in River Ridge,La. Has by far the best crawfish . They are the cleanest and best seasoned to perfection for people that can't have alot of salt this is the place to go. The service from the staff is great one inparticularly Daniella she is the best waitress ever she has been there a long time and attended to my/our ever need by coming to the table often. It's close to my parents' house and a perfect spot for family dinners. They are quite accommodating for staggered arrivals, fussy babies, and general family mayhem. The food is consistent and good. The muffelata's (sp?) are exceptional, beyond that it's classic New Orleans neighborhood fare. We go a lot and will continue to do so. The tomatoes weren't even ripe enough to be served and the cucumber was flimsy, meaning it was old. The broccoli soup was so-so and could've used seasoning like most of the food we were served. The onion rings were good but like my daughters burger it needed seasoning. I'm wondering if anyone at this restaurant has heard of salt??? When we went there were a ton of elderly people and I'm wondering if that's why nothing was seasoned. If you want to pack the house with younger people and have other returning customers, they should really do something to spice up the food and make it edible. I was just very disappointed and felt mislead by these other reviews saying the food was good. The food was subpar at best! It was cheap but cheap is not necessarily good.
