It's hard to believe that I've never eaten at Adams Catfish House, having driven past it so many times over so many years. However, while contemplating dinner on Friday 25 SEP 2020, we decided to go, as while I checked out their Yelp scores, I recognized a few Yelpers I knew and trusted. We arrived at 6:30 PM and although a little crowded, there were still tables available and we were seated immediately. We were greeted very quickly by our server and our drinks came soon afterwards and our orders were taken. Unfortunately, after requesting some Splenda for my tea, I had to wait a long time and eventually requested it again, as my server apologetically admitted she had forgotten it. Not a big deal, as she seemed fairly busy. Unfortunately, it took our food 55 minutes to arrive at our table after ordering. Perhaps this is the normal waiting time here, but it seemed like a long time for fried seafood. My son's kids catfish plate with sweet potato fries was fine; however, his catfish tasted as if it were fried at a very high temperature and tasted slightly scorched. My wife's combo plate consisted of fried catfish and fried shrimp with hush puppies. The hush puppies were some of the best I've ever eaten; however, the catfish, like my sons, also tasted as if it were fried at a very high temperature and tasted slightly scorched. Furthermore, her plate only had 2 shrimp on it. The server acknowledged this and advised they were cooking the other 4 shrimp, which also took a little too long to receive. However, the 4 remaining shrimp were cooked excellently. Lastly, I ordered the Big J salad. This was a pretty good salad; however, the shrimp were almost cool by the time I received it. Also, my very last bite of one of the two catfish filets was undercooked. It was a thick piece and I can see how this could happen, but I had to politely spit it out. This is a nice restaurant with a very homey feel to it. However, things did not work out well for us on this particular evening. Perhaps they were short staffed in the kitchen or something else was "going on". However, with no explanation, I left feeling let down. Sorry Adams. I have been to this Adam's several times and I have not had a disappointing meal yet! It's nothing fancy but all the fish I have had there has been cooked to perfection. Tender and lightly fired. My wife and I have had our last meal with Adams Catfish House. Haven't had it in a while so we thought we would treat ourselves to some fried catfish. I picked up to 3 pc. filet dinners and we sat down to eat them we ate some and realized that it had a strange taste so I smelled it and it was just starting to spoil like a faint rotten smell. Now this is the 3rd. time that we've had rotten fish with Adams Catfish the first two times was at the restaurant and they only charged us for one plate and the second time they didn't beleive us, and we didn't go back for years. We are not the type of people that look for freebies or problems we just want what we pay for. So this time I didn't even call them, we just won't go back. So good luck when you eat there read more

I go with either the whole catfish or the regular dinner if you don't want to fool with bones my favorites sides are the slaw and sweet potato fries. You can't lose either way. I cannot imagine anyone admitting to eating here more than once. First of all, the only good point is the service. the food is super salty and the restaurant is just filthy. There are chunky rings on the ketchup bottles. The walls next to the tables have crap on them. The table cloths are plastic and from the texture of them they get wiped down with plain water between diners if at all. This is one of those places I wont be trying again. read more

First ate hear in the 70's. It was a good restaurant to take the family. The owner didn't tolerate foul Language or other impalite behavior. After being transferred around the country in the 80's, here we were again in the NOLA Area. One of the first places we had to visit was Adam's Farm Fresh Catfish. They were still in step serving the finest fried catfish, hush puppies and coleslaw. They had French fries, but didn't want to waste space with everything else was so great! Well, I've noticed the menu is larger now and and so the prices. The all you could eat back then was about $7.00, now about $22.00. I guess that's progress. read more

The catfish is best I've found in the area. It's a nice mom and pop. After a couple times of visiting, they begin recognizing you and treated you like a regular. The price is higher than some of the other joints in the area but the quality of food makes up for the price difference. The hours are odd. Check the hours and make sure they are open before drive out. read more

This place is always packed as I travel. I thought it must be phenomenal! I finally got to try it yesterday for lunch! I was so happy! Until I sat down and looked at the menu. Even then, I thought, "Well, the fish must be really, really, really good since it is the absolute ONLY lunch option." The menu lies. Those were the fattiest, most fishy- tasting fish I have ever had in my life. Seriously, they were awful. Not only that, we were seated at 11:00 a.m. and waited 30 minutes for our food. It should have been piping hot after a wait like that. Instead, the fish was, well, warm. The upside is this place has probably the best tartar sauce I have ever had. I decided to drown the awful fish in delicious tartar sauce and lemon. I probably should have just ordered that only. Tartar sauce with a side of tartar sauce and lemon. We also took a salad to go. The person we brought the to go salad for also said hers was inedible. (Thanks, guys, this was a kiss-and-make-up gift.) "The shrimp were like plywood and the salad was soggy and soft at the bottom," she said. Everyone else that walked in there acted, and the staff also acted, like they were home for Mama's cookin'. Maybe that is what brings people back. It certainly isn't the food. Yanno, I am not a chef and I don't own a restaurant, but I know about prepping fish. Soaking them in milk and trimming the fat will solve that fishy taste when cooking them. My take? If they know you, they love you. If they don't, you don't matter. Have been coming here for nearly 30 years. Great family run business. The fried catfish is the best in the city. They also serve fried whole catfish in which I truly enjoy. You can also get grilled catfish and shrimp which is delicious. The food is always hot and fresh. read more

We stopped for a quick dinner on the way through. The service was fast and friendly. All of the sides were homemade and done very well. This little unsophisticated place off LA 23 is one of the last true southern catfish joints still around. It's not fancy and doesn't pull in the touristy crowd like Middendorfs. But this little joint does fry some of the best catfish on the Westbank. I love getting a large platter of fillets with the sweet potato fries. The only reason I don't get the whole fish is because I don't like pick out the bones. But my Maw-maw when she was alive loved the whole fish. She said it always reminded her of when she grew up in north Louisiana. But everyone who gets it usually loves it. My family and I started coming here when they first opened up decades ago. Like I said, they're not fancy, far from it. But it's clean and the waitstaff are locals or family members and all of them are super sweet. My husband and son love seafood, me and the girls not so much. We moved to BC last June! Me and our twin girls have been trying hard to be adventurous and try new things. So we went here and tried the fried catfish platter. It is my favorite dish so far. The catfish is cooked to perfection, good serving sizes and the staff are all so amazing there. I returned to Adams after many years and found it to be rather mediocre. Nothing stood out as exemplary, although the food is not bad. Basically, I think it is rather overpriced ($11 for 3 small pieces of catfish/$18 for 6 pieces, 3 hushpuppies, a side, and small cup of coleslaw), and the seasoning was not that good. It does have some atmosphere (some vintage tintype ads and old tools) but nothing out of the ordinary, and they also do not have any desserts or a very large menu. I got the onion straws as an appetizer, and while they were good, they were laden with grease, and there was no "wow factor" to them. They do serve steak fries. One appetizer they have that few other restaurants have is fried veggies. They may be good, but I cannot speak for them. In Belle Chasse, there are other seafood places, like Lil G's and Salvo's that do have larger menus, but Adams is harmless. Also, they do have rather limited hours (usually 11-2 for lunch and 5-9 for dinner) compared to many other restaurants, so it may be prudent to inquire about specific hours (I am not sure which days they are only open for lunch or only for dinner). read more

BECAUSE I ALWAYS ORDER THE CATFISH!!! I'm in the area for business about four times a year and there's two places I must eat, Salvo's and Adams Catfish house. I'm from PA and you just can't get this up there. The catfish is perfectly cooked and the breading is perfectly seasoned. The hush puppies are big and delicious. The coleslaw is out of this world. I ordered a shrimp poboy it came out crunchy and drenched in old grease and to add insult all of the ketchup bottles were freezing cold, so no ketchup for fries , equals no lunch .
