    Dungeness Crab Tray

We pass this place all the time. We have passed it going to Salvo's... WHY?! Why were we passing superior seafood. This was some of the most well seasoned boiled seafood I've had in the GNO area. It wasn't spicy enough for me. But nothing here is. Still, well-flavored and very reasonably priced. When the dungeness tray said it came with a "portion of shrimp" I wasn't expected a full pound (maybe more). Also, Nicole was one helluva server. She was kind and brought me lots of sauces and seasonings. Absolutely would ask to be in her section each time I go back!! The lights are blinding particularly if you sit near one that a ceiling fan is bc it acts as a strobe. Get way to set off a migraine or epileptic fit. But that's the only negative thing I could say about this joint. And I wouldn't take more than .5 star off, so five it is!!

Stopped in for the lunch special, was about a 15 min drive from Federal City. Wednesday special was the crawfish etouffe which came with 3 small catfish fillets. The sweet tea was perfect too! Service was great! Food took a little long to come from the kitchen so don't be in a hurry. Nice locals atmosphere you can tell people support them.

Food: Amazing had to eat here twice Service : waiters were just so friendly and awesome a Ambiance: great

Recommended to us from our Airboat Adventures Captain. We had the crawfish boil, shrimp boil and salmon. Everything was delicious. Enjoyed this local place. The service was great.

    Combination seafood platter

Ordered a combination seafood platter to go and came home to see this juvenile fiddler size soft shell crab. It was a bite size. I've gotten bigger ones in my poboys. Definitely ain't worth the $$$ and to go fee.

31AUG24 ~ They nickel & dime you to death. They charge you for water! They charge you for using a credit card, even if you do not use a credit card! French fries do NOT come with a fried seafood dish, any seafood dish! The portions are "Child's Portions!" (Except the salad) Recommend you go find a real seafood restaurant, not this shyster outfit.

From what I heard, they used to offer an AYCE seafood buffet but they renovated and no longer have it. It is now a full table service restaurant. Still serving an AYCE boiled seafood menu but accordingly with which seafood are in season. There's also other boiled seafood platters available too. I liked how the boiled seafood weren't salty but I thought it lacked flavor and were overcooked. A lot of reviews, especially on Google, raved about the great service but I didn't get the same experience. Not naming the waitress but she was pretty much nonexistent after the food were delivered. The restaurant wasn't busy either, considering it was a weekend dinner service. Saw a lot of other waitresses provided great service to their tables though.

The seafood was hot & fresh. Our food arrived before I could wash my hands. Our waitress was nice, attentive, and funny. The atmosphere was friendly and live, but not too overly noisy. We really had a great time!

I had the chopped salad, interestingly including goat cheese and crispy okra. I probably should have asked about the okra. Danielle was kind enough to serve house made Cajun ranch on the side; was very tasty. Would have enjoyed a little more goat cheese. Crispy okra = fried okra, which blew my mind - warm fried okra on top of my fresh salad. I put all of the okra in a small bowl on the side and ate it separately. I think getting someone's attention to check out probably was the slowest part of the process. Drinks never went dry, and pricing is reasonable. Not sure we will return, though, just because there's nothing outstanding about the food; it's just good.

Hopefully, they're much faster on other days. Plenty of parking here.

Let me tell you something. We just finished a swamp tour in the Louisiana bayou -- gators, cypress…read moretrees, Spanish moss, the whole magnificent thing -- and we were hungry, a little wild-eyed, and in desperate need of a meal worthy of the morning we just had. Restaurant des Familles delivered in every single way. We ordered the crab cakes, the turtle soup, and the étouffée, and I am not being dramatic when I say all three were absolutely out of this world. The crab cakes were perfect -- crispy outside, sweet and fresh inside, no filler, no shortcuts. The turtle soup was rich and deeply seasoned in that only-in-Louisiana way that makes you close your eyes on the first spoonful. And the étouffée? Silky, buttery, loaded with flavor. Every single dish tasted like someone's grandmother made it with love and a lifetime of knowing exactly what she was doing. But beyond the food -- this place is just beautiful. Tucked right into the bayou, quiet and unhurried, with that warm Louisiana hospitality that makes you feel like a welcome guest rather than a table to turn. We walked in as road-tripping strangers and left feeling like we'd found one of the best kept secrets in the whole state. If you are anywhere near Barataria, whether you just came off a swamp tour or you made the drive specifically for this -- stop here. You will not regret a single bite. Restaurant des Familles is the real deal.
