Upon walking in, it seemed like a standard carryout with a few items like a convenient store. It was clean, and the cashier was really sweet. I ordered the yakamein, 4 grilled cheese sandwiches, shrimp poboy, and plain fried rice. I only tasted the grilled cheese and fried rice, and both were great. This place was like a hidden gem. Their food was delicious. The only thing I would have liked to see was trays and plates. The business is small and not set up for dine-in. We were from out of town and couldn't take it to go. They have two small tables, and the staff was accommodating as we sat there and devoured our food. Even though crawfish was out of season, the lady that assisted us told me how they prepare the crawfish before the end of the season. The little mudbugs were not rubbery like you would get when reheating frozen crawfish. Good job J's! read more

J's used to be my go-to spot to grab Poboys on my non-cooking days. As usual, I grabbed a Poboy on my way home. This time, as I was eating the Poboy, a piece of steel wool was amongst my catfish, mayonnaise, Etc. Although the Poboy was delicious, the steel wool pad was a big turn off. read more

I was in the mood for seafood and gumbo, so my tastebuds led me here. I did not leave disappointed! I ordered gumbo, turkey necks, corn, sausage, and 1lb of shrimps. The inside of the store was very clean and smelled of seafood and fresh food. The cashier was very friendly and moved really quickly, while taking my order. They was a choice of chicken and sausage gumbo, seafood gumbo, or mixed. I chose the mixed gumbo. The way my tastebuds reacted to the gumbo was EPIC! It was very meaty, juicy, and hot! The shrimp were boiled to perfection and had the right flavor and weren't too spicy. The corn and sausage were awesome as well. Seafood places sometimes overly spice their items and it can lead to a mouth on fire, that did NOT happen today. I definitely will come back, as a regular. I ordered all of those things and spent less than $20. I am happy I tried somewhere new and recommend anyone to try this place! I pass by this place almost every other day, and never considered giving it a try until this week. On my first visit, I ordered a 10 pc wing half buffalo/half lemon pepper. The chicken was well seasoned but smaller than I expected. I should've went with my first mind and got some Cajun fries. Luckily, I went back the next day and got a crawfish po-boy w/ the fries. As I mentioned in my last review, it's been a bad week, so we were off to get a happy crawfish and seafood fix. After a disappointing taste-test at Cajun Corner, we stopped here. I asked for a crawfish to taste, mentioning I was looking for something with a little spice. THE FOOD: The crawfish he gave me was large enough to name and possibly spoon with on Joshua's Couch. I pealed and pinched; Good stuff! Sweet tail meat that compares favorably as a cross between good shrimp and lobster.. So I sucked the head and coughed from the spice. Now THIS is more like it. There is something wonderful about the mix between sweet tail and spicy heat that gives you two wonderful flavors each crawfish. And if you are lucky enough to crack and eat the claws, you get this third, very meaty flavor to boot. 2 Lbs, please. The girly ordered a small Oyster Po boy and at 7.50 or so, it was a good price. She devoured it and probably could have done the full sized one, she liked it so much. She also ate different bits from my crawfish. She liked the flavor a lot. The only thing that could have made this experience better would have been a nice cold beer. THE BUSINESS: This is a small, clean, spartan storefront, but a few tables. The people running it are Vietnamese and have great attitudes, each joking with me about the spices when I coughed. Each glad that I liked them. Is it my imagination or have the Vietnamese taken over the seafood boil/fry shop type businesses one delicious bite after another? Like many, these guys got their start in NOLA East. Their family has a shrimp boat so they get the freshest seafood in and can offer them at good prices. So next time my beloved Seafood Zone is too crowded or out of their fantastic crawfish, I'll happily come here for my seafood fix. And if they aren't open, Well it's right by Hong Kong Market and my also beloved Pho Dahn 4. SO it's win, win, win. Oh...and if the Evil Girly has her way, there is also a new Mexican place right next door that she can drag me into. At least that will give me something new to review. read more

I love a good roast beef poboy. It has to be the deli style roast beef with good French bread. I thought after Danny and Clyde's went away that I wouldn't find another one, but J's Bayou is filling the void quite nicely! Delicious gravy. Friendly service. Quickly made food. They take phone orders or you can go in and they make it all right in front of you. This place is labeled as seafood but they boast a wide variety of food's from boiled crawfish , to poboys, to shrimp fried rice and grilled cheese sandwiches! My 1 and only complaint about this place is its location. Right next to Panda King, across from Boudreaux elementary, much too close to the apartments (which makes for a high crime area) for me, so daytime phone orders are suggested. That's it though. Excellent customer service combined with delicious crawfish and shrimp poboys. We were on the road contemplating what to have for lunch when I used my Yelp app to find something tasty on our way down to Port Sulphur to spend time with my family. I missed the turn and accidentally went to the wrong place, but with a quick UTurn, I was at our destination. From the first impression, the paint and decor could use a bit of TLC, but the quality of the food was excellent. The prices are great and the food is delicious. I'm not a local- I was in town for business and wanted a good place to sit for a few and eat good local seafood. I was disappointed after I read all the good reviews. First impression- walked into stock day and almost couldn't see the small sitting area for all the boxes. I thought they were closed until the staff finally acknowledged me. I looked at the food in the warming table/display and it hadn't been stirred in a while- not appetizing. I ordered gumbo and a shrimp po- boy anyway. The flavor of the gumbo was delicious, but the chicken would have embarrassed a McDonald's Chicken McNugget- lots of gristle. There was a 2- inch long stem from an herb in there also. Not pleasant. I enjoyed the taste of the broth as I carefully avoided everything else. The shrimp po- boy was fine- just as you would expect from a New Orleans shop. Maybe it was the wrong day, wrong time of day, wrong staff- I don't know, but I will drive past and look elsewhere next time. read more
