I really enjoy dining at Home Cooking Cafe. If you're craving some comforting, hearty food, this is the perfect spot! The dishes are tasty and bursting with flavor. They offer generous portions at a fair price. The staff always provides excellent service. Plus, the restaurant has a warm, inviting atmosphere and is kept spotless.

I'm visiting my sister for my birthday today, cinco de mayo, I wanted shrimp and grits so I just found the closest place that had them. My sister had never heard of this place but I noticed they have excellent reviews so I wanted to give them a chance. This place is like in a little strip mall, not too difficult to find. I went inside and ordered the shrimp and grits to go. The price was good just $17 and it comes with a salad. I waited about 7 minutes and my food was ready. I didn't open it till I got home and just looking at it I knew it was going to be good. The sauce looked great. I tasted it and golly g it was sooo good, the best shrimp and grits I've ever had. By the way the grits have corn in it. It was amazing, my sister tasted it and agreed it was the best we've ever tasted. I want to taste more food from there but I'm going back to Texas. Adding a picture.

Easy review! Service=Awesome!, Food=Awesomer! Ambiance=Good I ordered the meatloaf which is the best I have ever had including my own home cooked. There was not the normal tomato coating on the outside and gravy was on the side. I prefer it dry but like the option if I wanted to add it. Fried okra was crispy and hot. Mashed potatoes and brown gravy was a hit. The food portion was enough for two meals. Don't miss out on the opportunity to eat here. Eat Local, support local, Enjoy!

Bread Pudding and BBQ Shrimp and Roasted Corn Grits Both are delicious! I can eat the shrimp and grits every day and never get tired of it.

One of my favorite southern food restaurants. Love all their food and their service is great as well.

We found this cafe when some family visited from out of town and wanted "local food." Everything was great and tasted homemade. The service was so friendly and couldn't have been better. We found a gem and the family was happy!

Real comfort food. Whenever I eat out, I ask what is made in - house so I can order the best possible meal. Gus' meatloaf - I grew up eating meatloaf and I was in the mood for "homey-mommy" food. It was very good, like good homemade meatloaf. Two thick slices. I eat my meatloaf with ketchup, so I made a little ketchup pool on the side of my plate and dipped meatloaf bites as I ate. I also love meatloaf sandwiches and I bet this meatloaf, served cold, would be good on sliced sandwich bread. Sides- Mac n cheese- tasty, creamy béchamel-based, mildly cheesy sauce. Sauce was poured over the pasta. The pasta was penne not macaroni. Sauce was good, but I would have preferred a sharper cheese for some tang. Also, the mac n cheese was served lukewarm, not hot like it should be. Red beans -n-rice- tasty, well- cooked beans, smokey , meaty pork chunks, nicely seasoned. They even left Bay leaves in the beans. Love that. Cornbread- moist, sweet, fluffy, nice texture. Very good. NY style Cheesecake- i love cheesecake but i was not a fan of theirs. Its texture was grainy, not creamy/smooth. It lacked flavor and tang. Crust was bland. Overall, it lacked brightness. It was served with chocolate sauce that tasted like Hershey's syrup from a bottle. Definitely would not order that dessert again. Arrived for an early dinner at 5p. I was greeted when I walked in, staff is friendly, staff is knowledgeable about the menu and how things are prepared. Service was prompt and staff checked in regularly after serving. Business was steady with lots of takeout orders, and regulars dining in. This place needs a good scrub down on the interiorpp. It's looking neglected. Also the floors in the restaurant and bathrooms are very dirty and really need a good scrub. I give it four out of five stars because of the dirty floors and grainy cheesecake. I doubt I will return because I just can't stop thinking about the dirty floors.

Really enjoyed the meal today. I would suggest that you stop by for a visit, you won't be disappointed. Keep up the good work...

5 Star for the food 5 Star for the service. The server was really helpful and knowledgeable of the menu and portion. 5 Star for experience. We stop by during lunchtime and it was obvious that everyone was well taken care of of.

I like to meet up with friends for lunch and try different restaurants but it seems they all requested to come back here again. Service is always great and the food is well seasoned and delicious. The food portion is a lot and I usually have overs. I would suggest ordering a few different items in the menu and sharing it so you would all get a chance to taste each other's food and find your favorite. I have tried more then a few on the menu and there was nothing I didn't like, everything was delicious but my favorite is the Travis Wings and Shrimp Fried Rice,

When she came back, we hit her with a bunch of questions and she answered them and on the ones she couldn't answer, she went to the back and got the answers. We got 1/2 dozen grilled oysters and fried alligator bites for an appetizers. The alligator bites were extremely tender, so a must get again. The oysters were good, but small. I got the seafood basket and asked if they could substitute the catfish with the flounder and they did. Husband got a cup of gumbo, it was more than a cup and tasted good. He also got boiled sausage and eggs and both were really good. They thin slice the sausage, so all the seasoning could be tasted throughout. I also got one of the signature drinks, the shipwreck, which I sucked down. We had plenty of leftovers for another meal for us both. Sometimes you need to try a restaurant after it has been open for a month or so before reviewing like the others did for this restaurant. It wasn't terribly crowded, but still had a good amount of people there. Also, the busboy was on his toes, as soon as a table left, he was clearing the tables and setting them up for the next guest. We will be back again. P.S. the manager came and and spoke to several tables, including us, we had a good 10 minute conversation with him and told us a few things to ask for the next time we go. Basically off menu specials.

We ordered the $113 signature platter which consisted of lobster tails, snow crab, headless shrimp, head-on shrimp, a dungeness cluster, mussels, corn, potatoes, and sausage. We also ordered frog legs, alligator bites, a flounder basket, and a kids chicken tender plate. I did not care for the frog legs but I highly recommend the alligator bites. Overall, we enjoyed our food and the service was good.

Let's just say that we ordered enough food that day, that we didn't even need to buy dinner. This location is about 15 minutes away from the touristy areas. It's surrounded by a ginormous beauty shop, a mochi donut shop (surprised to see it in Louisiana) and another Asian restaurant. When we first walked inside, I noticed that there was no host at the counter. So we waited and waited until someone acknowledged us. Let's just say that there was a lot of waiting during our visit. The prices were about the same as other seafood boil places in California. I ordered the combo 1 lb of shrimp head-on and 3lbs of crawfish, which automatically came with corn, sausage, and potatoes. I also ordered a half dozen of charbroiled oysters. As far as the charbroiled oysters go, it was ok. The night before we ate at Acme and the charbroiled oysters at Fiery Crab were nothing compared to Acme. My boyfriend ordered a chicken tender basket and calamari rings. One thing that I do want to mention is the sauce that came with the calamari and chicken tenders wasn't like any other sauce I've tasted. I don't know what they put in it, but it was good. I'm guessing it was ketchup and tartar sauce with a kick to it. I couldn't figure it out. My only complaints: Is the long waits and our server was nowhere to be found. Aside from that, our server was very friendly and provided us with what we needed when he did come around.

I didn't necessarily want to go to a sit down and eat restaurant either. I just wanted a seafood bag to go. We found this place in Harvey. It's in shopping plaza that looks like it has seen better days. It's sits in a corner. Plenty of parking. The inside looks like a typical Juicy Crab. I asked for the menu and ordered a crab boil bag. They had chairs inside for you to wait for your food. I know we waited at least 30 minutes. The front desk had maybe three hostesses who were pleasant enough especially at the end of the night. The food was just as I thought it would be. Pretty good and fresh. The crab legs were flavorful, not too salty and sweet. Of course I could not eat it all but at least I was satisfied.
