    Penne diavola

As much as I enjoyed this place on my first visit I can't believe it took me 3 years to get back here. I again got the shrimp and crab pizza that was as good as I remember. Also tried the penne diavola which was delicious! I visited with my mom and we both had sangria. I had the spicy mango and my mom had the berry hibiscus sangria and both were refreshing. I was stuffed but couldn't leave without getting the bread pudding and it didn't disappoint. The candied pecans were the perfect touch. It won't be another 3 years before I return!

Came here for dinner on a friends recommendation and it was delicious. It's very small, only a dozen or so tables but we were seated pretty fast and the service was great. Lots of the food passing by on the way to other tables looked good and they also have a wood fired pizza oven. I would definitely recommend giving this restaurant a try.

    Chicken Parmesan. Sooo good!

A co-worker told me about this place. She hit "the nail on the head," with this little gem. I went to have a good pizza. However I did not get pizza. I chose the fried chicken Parmesan. It was awesome. Red gravy is rich with a bit of "twang" which offsets the richness of the cheese. I loved it! My husband had the veal Picatta it was amazin! Service was vey attentive. Ambiance top notch! Elegant yet simple. Airy and vibrant. We will definitely return for that pizza. Off street parking available.

I actually came here because I saw a local influencer post about their oxtail pizza on Instagram. This pizza wasn't listed on the menu or the specials chalkboard but they said it was still available to order for a limited time. We ordered the oxtail pizza, the lamb meatball pizza and a pepperoni pizza. The oxtail pizza actually looked nothing like the pizza I saw online besides the hot sauce and when I showed the influencer who posted it they were also puzzled and said they would reach out to the restaurant to see what was going on. Nevertheless, all the pizzas were good. The lamb meatball was actually probably my favorite one. The crust is really good as well.

Oak Oven in Harahan is like your Italian grandma's cooking--if she had a wood-fired oven and a black belt in pizza-making. Everything was excellent but......the pumpkin and crab bisque was a total game changer. Cozy vibes, top-tier carbs--wear stretchy pants and thank me later.

Spinach Salad not to be confused with the Parmigiano Salad that I actually ordered.

It's hard to write a bad review when you've had so many good experiences everytime before. This review is solely based on the service provided. We walked up and was greeted at the door by the manager. She asked if we were dining in and we said we would like to. She looked at her watch for about 3 seconds longer than she needed to. My brother realizing they were closing in 25 mins says that's ok, we can go somewhere else. She said No No yall come in. We knew what we wanted right away so we ordered immediately. We got a pizza, a small pasta dish and I ordered a salad. The waiter said we are out of romaine we only have arugula and spinach. I said that'll be fine, assuming the intent of the words used was perceived to be a substitution. The pizza comes out followed by the pasta dish. After he passed a few more times I stopped and asked if the salad was coming. he replied you said nevermind. I said no, I said that'll be fine. I had ordered a salad that was to have romaine bacon egg tomato and olives with a Parmigiano dressing. The salad that came out had spinach apples candied pecans raisins feta and a balsamic pepper jelly vinegarette. Needless to say we were highly disappointed in the service. The food except the salad was amazing as it always is. Hopefully the service can improve for next time. We felt rushed the entire time we were there. They tried bussing the table with food still on the plate.

Food is always fresh here. The caesar salad was sooooo delicious. I cleaned the bowl, which was chilled! Love it!! I ordered the paneed veal with fettuccine and asparagus which was also fresh. Complimentary bread and dipping oil sealed the deal with a glass of malbec. Chefs kiss. Small but a clean space.....cool place to stop by for lunch or dinner.

I have had a gift card for this place for like 4 years and finally decided to go check it out. It's quaint and cute. It is in a location that used to be a Popeyes but is redone beautifully. The kitchen is open so you can see the making of the pasta. Service was quick and amazing. The food was delicious. I ordered a pizza to go but indulged in the spinach salad, Fruiti de golfo and shrimp papparadelle via dining in. All ingredients were fresh. This place is great for a date night, lunch date, solid date, etc. I'll be back soon.

I love this little hidden gem off of Jefferson highway. A friend and I decided to check this place out on a Tuesday evening for an early dinner! Best decision ever! We did NOT have a reservation, but they were able to get us in. I tried the harvest salad I believe is what it was called and it was refreshing. They have a small and large size, the small salad was split between two people and it was a great portion. For my entree I got the Margherita Pizza just for myself and I had three pieces leftover. For dessert we decided to split the bread pudding with icecream . IT WAS AMAZING! The candied pecans were everything ! Our waiter was attentive, pricing was reasonable and SUPPORT LOCAL! I will be back!

There was plenty of cheese and the dipping sauce was great. The kids order chicken tenders and spaghetti with A meatball. ($5.99 each) The pizza was awesome. Soft but fully cooked pizza dough and crust. Plenty of toppings and hot. Delicious. The spaghetti was noodles and one medium meatball. Absolutely nothing fancy and want enough for my kid. I would have rather gotten him the 3 meatball appetizer for $6.99. The chicken tenders (2) were clearly from frozen bag... and warmed up in microwave. My kid wouldn't eat them. They were dry and cheap and flavorless. I get that it is a kids menu but still expected more. The cups were all plastic "to go" cups so you couLd take it with you. ... or they threw them away afterward. That seemed like a lot of plastic waste to me. Food was great. Avoid the kids menu.

We've ordered Detroit style elsewhere and while they can be smaller, this feels a bit extreme. So taking stars away for cost and sizing. We had to stop elsewhere for additional food because two pizzas were not enough for my family at this size.

Everything we ordered was absolutely incredible: 5 Stars - Crab Dip 5 Stars - Stuffed Artichoke 5 Stars - Artichoke Spinach Dip 5 Stars- Spaghetti & Meatballs - These meatballs are HUGE (1 lb each!) and taste just like Nonna's homemade Sicilian meatballs. Ted never orders meatballs at restaurants, but these were AMAZING. 5 Stars - Shrimp & Crab Ravioli - Next level delicious. 5 Stars - Chicken Parmesan - Perfect with angel hair pasta and homemade red sauce. 5 Stars - Lasagna - Rich, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. And the cannolis... WOW. Fresh, homemade, and the BEST we've ever had. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and on point all night. Service was top notch from start to finish. The atmosphere has a cool speakeasy vibe, and they even have a beautiful upstairs space for weddings, parties, and events. 5 We've eaten a lot of the menu here and have NEVER had a bad meal. GENDUSA'S is our GO-TO for the best Italian food around! If you love Italian food... GO. You'll thank me later.

Great Italian food but not so great pizza…read more Gendusa's is pretty solidly dependable (very) local Italian restaurant in downtown Kenner. It's right on Williams in Rivertown, so there's plenty of parking. It's a popular place, so expect to wait 15-30 minutes most nights. Inside it's a gaudy mess that takes its theming from mafia movies. Hokey and tacky but you're not there for the interior design, so it's fine. It's very family friendly but sometimes too much so in that there are often kids running around playing next to your table, doing splits on the floor, or just banging on stuff and acting up, and since there don't seem to be managers around ever, no one tells the bad kids' bad parents to act right or leave. Food wise it's typical southern Italian food. Good flavor and well cooked. Portions are decent and not out of line with the pricing. A better value than most Italian restaurants for sure. Where Gendusa's repeatedly falls flat though is with their pizza. They try. You can tell they do because they're using high quality ingredients and they don't skimp on toppings. The crust could be better but it's not bad. The sauce has a good flavor but they barely put any of it on the pizza. Even if you ask for heavy sauce the only place you can see any of it is right near the perimeter. Without enough sauce and with a not so flavorful crust, the taste of the pizza is pretty much just that of the toppings. The toppings, though, is where their pizzas really fail. As mentioned above, they do use high quality toppings and they give you lots of them. But, the toppings are never cooked right! They're either all basically raw / uncooked, or if you're lucky, the toppings at the very top will be nicely cooked on the very top surface, but nothing below that very top surface bit of oven exposure is ever done. In fact, every time I've gotten a pizza there, most every topping has been still room temperature even when the rest of the pizza is too hot to eat. Gendusa's clearly know how to cook, but they don't seem to know how to cook pizza. They know how to make a pizza. They just don't know to cook that pizza. My guess is they need to cook their pizzas at a lower temperature for a much longer time...long enough so that every single topping at every level gets fully cooked all the way through...and only then maybe move the pizza over to higher heat to give the crust and such a good finish. Check out the photos below. You can see how the sausage on the very top got nice and done as did the edges of the ham, but the pepperoni and such below is cool to the touch and entirely uncooked. If Gendusa's can fix this, they'll have some solid pizza to go with their great Italian food. I hope they troubleshoot and make improvements.
