10" Small Artichoke Pizza
Catherine L.

We ordered for delivery and it was very quick. We did a large all meats, a large Canadian bacon and pineapple, small artichoke hearts, and a small garlic cheese bread. The pizzas were all yummy! The meat one was greasy, which my husband said was the best part on a meat pizza. I LOVE the artichoke heart one, it was so flavorful! The garlic cheese bread was more like a cheese pizza with garlic butter, it was okay. Overall, good pizza at a decent price. Didn't over impress or under impress.

Spinach artichoke dip

We dined here for dinner around 7 PM on a Tuesday. There were not many dine-in customers while we were there but there was a steady flow of pick up orders coming in the whole night. It's seat yourself, so we grabbed an empty booth along the wall and waited for service. There was one server working both the dining room and the pick up counter and seeing she was busy we patiently waited. The decor/ambiance is very basic. Faux greenery adorns the walls with other live greens lining the front window. It's very simple with booths lining the far left wall and various sized tables filling the center. If you have larger groups, it looks like they can accommodate that with no problem by pulling tables together. Food- we ordered spinach dip as an appetizer (honestly, the best thing I ate), the Italian salad (plentiful portion, fresh, and filling), the soup (was supposed to be chicken pot pie but we got corn and crab due to a mix up but it was actually an upgrade cuz it was delicious and piping hot), a large pepperoni pizza (again, piping hot but perhaps not enough crust for my personal liking and maybe a smidge on the greasy side), and the apple crisp dessert (very simplistic and would benefit from a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top.) Service was perfect for how we like to eat. We don't like to be rushed or hovered over. When we needed something, Carmen took care of it right away and Mark helped out by refilling a drink and bringing us a to go box for our leftovers. Overall we enjoyed our experience. It's definitely a no-frills type of environment but the food was good as was the service. There was a bunch of stuff on the menu that looked good so we will likely go back to try more stuff.

Greek Roasted Chicken Wrap

Literally one of the best wraps I've ever had -- I don't normally write reviews but it was so good I was like... I need to write a review of this wrap. The flavors are so great, the wrap is so thin and crispy (what kind of bread is it? Omg, so good). The sun-dried tomato dressing -- delicious. Seriously, get yourself to Italian Pie and immediately order the Roasted Greek Chicken Wrap. P.S. it's huge!

Truly the best pizza around! We love Italian pie but especially this location. It's always sooo cheesy and good. Cooked perfectly. Sometimes we get the wings, like tonight. And they are just as amazing! I'd choose this over anywhere. Excellent food!

Really tasty pizza! Salads also very fresh and crispy! The lasagna was ok, but my preference is more meat than cheese.

The food and service was excellent. It had the typical lunch type dining atmosphere but I would recommend it highly to anyone.

BEST ITALIAN FOOD. PERIOD. FIVE STARS NEXT LEVEL…read more If you haven't been to Gendusa's Italian Market & Restaurant, you are missing out! Everything we ordered was absolutely incredible: 5 Stars - Crab Dip 5 Stars - Stuffed Artichoke 5 Stars - Artichoke Spinach Dip 5 Stars- Spaghetti & Meatballs - These meatballs are HUGE (1 lb each!) and taste just like Nonna's homemade Sicilian meatballs. Ted never orders meatballs at restaurants, but these were AMAZING. 5 Stars - Shrimp & Crab Ravioli - Next level delicious. 5 Stars - Chicken Parmesan - Perfect with angel hair pasta and homemade red sauce. 5 Stars - Lasagna - Rich, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. And the cannolis... WOW. Fresh, homemade, and the BEST we've ever had. Our waiter was friendly, knowledgeable, and on point all night. Service was top notch from start to finish. The atmosphere has a cool speakeasy vibe, and they even have a beautiful upstairs space for weddings, parties, and events. 5 We've eaten a lot of the menu here and have NEVER had a bad meal. GENDUSA'S is our GO-TO for the best Italian food around! If you love Italian food... GO. You'll thank me later.

Great Italian food but not so great pizza…read more Gendusa's is pretty solidly dependable (very) local Italian restaurant in downtown Kenner. It's right on Williams in Rivertown, so there's plenty of parking. It's a popular place, so expect to wait 15-30 minutes most nights. Inside it's a gaudy mess that takes its theming from mafia movies. Hokey and tacky but you're not there for the interior design, so it's fine. It's very family friendly but sometimes too much so in that there are often kids running around playing next to your table, doing splits on the floor, or just banging on stuff and acting up, and since there don't seem to be managers around ever, no one tells the bad kids' bad parents to act right or leave. Food wise it's typical southern Italian food. Good flavor and well cooked. Portions are decent and not out of line with the pricing. A better value than most Italian restaurants for sure. Where Gendusa's repeatedly falls flat though is with their pizza. They try. You can tell they do because they're using high quality ingredients and they don't skimp on toppings. The crust could be better but it's not bad. The sauce has a good flavor but they barely put any of it on the pizza. Even if you ask for heavy sauce the only place you can see any of it is right near the perimeter. Without enough sauce and with a not so flavorful crust, the taste of the pizza is pretty much just that of the toppings. The toppings, though, is where their pizzas really fail. As mentioned above, they do use high quality toppings and they give you lots of them. But, the toppings are never cooked right! They're either all basically raw / uncooked, or if you're lucky, the toppings at the very top will be nicely cooked on the very top surface, but nothing below that very top surface bit of oven exposure is ever done. In fact, every time I've gotten a pizza there, most every topping has been still room temperature even when the rest of the pizza is too hot to eat. Gendusa's clearly know how to cook, but they don't seem to know how to cook pizza. They know how to make a pizza. They just don't know to cook that pizza. My guess is they need to cook their pizzas at a lower temperature for a much longer time...long enough so that every single topping at every level gets fully cooked all the way through...and only then maybe move the pizza over to higher heat to give the crust and such a good finish. Check out the photos below. You can see how the sausage on the very top got nice and done as did the edges of the ham, but the pepperoni and such below is cool to the touch and entirely uncooked. If Gendusa's can fix this, they'll have some solid pizza to go with their great Italian food. I hope they troubleshoot and make improvements.

Darkly lit restaurant but with historic vibes…read more Service felt like your local hometown spot. Very casual. Food was spectacular and presented very well. My only complaint is that the cocktails and alcohol selection reminded me of a dive bar. My husband had a steak that had so much gristle that his jaw was sore from having to chew so much before he could swallow it. My cousin had a fish dish which he enjoyed but it was nothing special. I had the Ossa Boca, which was the worst I had ever had and I eat this dish often and in many different restaurants. It was bland and the sauce tasted like dirty dish water. I let the waiter know that I didn't like it so the owner came over and he could not have been ruder or more disrespectful. I have never been talked to by a manager or an owner with such disrespect. There was no excuse for him to act that way I was never disrespectful or rude to him. I just simply said I didn't like it. He went in to start yelling at me in front of my guest and other patrons in the restaurant. He told me how often this dish was served and had never had any complaints. He said there was nothing wrong with the dish there was something wrong with me. I heard some other words coming out of his mouth, but after he said, there was something wrong with me. I tuned him out. This is a rare occasion that I can actually say "well I never" The waiter was professional and friendly. The ambience was pleasant. The owner is a despicable human being, and I will never step foot in his establishment again
