Went to red stripe for lunch. The red stripe burger is huge and juicy (I got medium rare). They did mess up our orders and give us fries instead of salad for the side, but they apologized and corrected that. We went for my birthday and they gave me a 7 layer chocolate cake which was also delicious! However, they were not upfront about the cost.. we all thought a birthday cake slice would be complimentary but apparently it cost $9.01...1 cent for a birthday scoop of icecream and $9 for a slice of cake. I felt bad for my friends who tried to surprise me and thought it was complimentary.. (they usually are at places that do surprises!) I also thought the burgers were a bit overpriced at $12 (without tip/tax), but overall a good delicious burger and good dining experience. For many years, this was THE SPOT for paella. I went this past December specifically to have the Paella for my birthday meal and was told they were out. Went back last night for it just to discover a new menu that no longer included paella! The website as of the time of this posting still displays a menu which includes paella. I had the short rib instead, which was fine, but it isn't paella! Can you please consider adding the paella back? I genuinely don't think I'll visit again without paella on the menu. My bff took me to the Red Stripe in my birthday, august 24th. First time there for both of us; she wanted to try something new and saw it had good reviews. We went late for lunch, so there were inly a few people there; weather was nice so we sat outside. The service was 5 stars! I wish I remembered our waitress name because she was awesome! Personable, informative, very friendly ad we got everything we needed! Food and drinks came out quick qnd perfect! For drinks i had the watermelon sangria (light and not too sweet); my bff had the French martini. Both very tasty (we had a couple!) Food was Great!! There were so options that sounded great, and after having issues deciding on one thing to order, we decided to share two meals. We ordered the Linguine with clams and the Thai Cioppino. They were both so good!! The seafood was well prepared and so flavorful! For desert we shared a creme brûlée, and our sweet waitress put a candle in it and sang happy birthday!! I really love red stripe. It's a nice little restaurant on the east side with my favorite, white table clothes! The food and the service is always really nice. And the price is very affordable. Dinner on a Saturday night during the pandemic. Had reservations so no waiting, plenty of street parking. Only issue was we were seated at a dirty table - which was quickly rectified when we mentioned it. Dividers between the tables and empoyees with masks on. Pleasant staff and quick service. Mussels marinara and fries were really good. They were some of the largest mussels I've ever had. Fries could've been crispier, but they were still good. The bolognese was probably the best bolognese I've ever had, definitely recommend. I wish that they served some bread so that I could sop up the mussels broth and bolognese sauce. Came here for a lunch date on a July afternoon. Service and food were both excellent. Our waitress was super friendly and personable; very genuine. I loved how the bartender came up to us and asked what we thought about our cocktails. Have never experienced this in a restaurant, and thought it was both authentic and awesome. Very nice guy. My date's Hanger Steak was excellent; cooked rare. The frites that came along with it were equally delicious. The Pulled Pork Sandwich I ordered was amazing. Pork was lean, not drenched in sauce, and had just the right amount of cranberry sauce and coleslaw in it, too. Side salad was perfectly tossed in dressing as well. My date's mudslide was strong and delicious, but my Eiffel Tower wasn't too strong and sweeter than I wanted it to be. What docks this place two points are the following: Parking was an issue. They don't have a parking lot, so you're forced to park on the street. Plus, Providence rarely has any open street spots without having you walk quite the distance; I'm only complaining about walking because that day, it was pouring cats and dogs. The open kitchen is cool, but not when you smell like food afterwards. Also felt like the layout and atmosphere were lacking. Had higher expectations in terms of seating arrangements and ambiance, especially for a French establishment such as this one. But otherwise: well lit, clean, amazing food and awesome service. Awesome place!! Wayland area of providence offers a stress free neighborhood for parking to this restaurant, and you'll be greeted by an unassumingly large, yet cozy interior. The half order mussels were a great deal and they give you plenty of bread to soak up the extra yummy broth. I got the pasta and meatball which had a marinara sauce that had a nice bite to it, and my boyfriend got the bacon cheddar meatloaf. The red sangria was $10 and hugeeee! The calamari and moules were OK but the fries were soggy and lukewarm. Called here today to place a to go order for a Lg fish and chip. The guy on the phone said there is one size. God home open the Box there was one tiny piece of fish I called I said I think they made a mistake he says what's wrong I said this little tiny piece of fish he said it's an 8 oz portion I would say it was about a 5oz portion at best. Needless to say if he did not tell me that it was a generous portion to begin with I would have ordered 2.. I will never order or go back there again not to mention it was ice cold. Horrible experience. And on top of it, to my surprise it was the Manager of the The establishment.. I WOULD HAVE expected a lot better. Especially when somebody goes home and tells you and call you up means there unhappy and as a manager you should do everything in your power to make that costumer happy.. The food is usually consistent, but (and I hate to make my first review of this fine restaurant a somewhat negative one), a few pieces of my girl's steak in the steak frites was not edible: she had to politely spit them out in her napkin. My bolognese was very good. The killer on this particular night, as we were getting up from our table to exit the restaurant, my girl saw a mouse run behind the bar. I understand these things happen, nevertheless, they are a turn off. In addition, it would have been nice if the person cleaning the bar area would have waited until everyone was done eating before bleaching the bar area clean. It did not add to our enjoyment nor did it deter the mouse. read more

The best thing about this place was the waitress and my drink. Everything else was a fail. The hummus plate had everything, but hummus. Well maybe just a spoonful of hummus. It took like 25 minutes to get some dang bread! My entree, which was $25, came out burnt. I had to send it back because who really wants to eat burnt scallops? Plus my entree was so small! I've been here multiple times for Sunday brunch. This is one of the few brunch places in Providence that allows you to make a reservation. I usually order some variation of eggs Benedict (my favorite is the crab cake eggs benny), and substitute the home fries with truffle fries. The home fries here are rather dry and lack flavor in my opinion, but the truffle fries with aioli are great! The eggs Benedict itself is not the best I have had, but it hits the spot. For dessert, I usually convince everyone in my party that we NEED to get the bread pudding French toast with a side of ice cream. Seriously. This french toast is the only reason I come here so often. It's not your typical french toast- it's crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Pair it with coffee and vanilla ice cream and you won't regret it! Ambience is great and service is always prompt. The only thing that is less than spectacular is the noise level, but it doesn't bother me too much. Management is very kind, they've actually donated gift cards to a charity food drive I organize every year. It's great to see management of local businesses get involved in the community, and take the time to talk to customers. Overall, this is definitely one of my go-to brunch spots in Providence and I'll definitely be back many times. read more

I have been a long time diner at Red Stripe so it pains me to say this. The level of service, attention to details and food is not the same. The cooks and service staff don't seem to care. I came into the restaurant to order take out. After ordering I paid and then waited and waited and waited for my food. After more than 30 minutes someone finally noticed that I was still waiting for my order. Mine you, there are two hostesses who never asked if they could help. I was told that someone check on my order. Another 15 minutes went by before I said I wanted a refund and had to leave. 10 minutes more before the food came out. I was polite and took the food and threw it in the trash outside because it was cold. In a pandemic recession and a partially filled restaurant I would expect a restaurant to care a little more given the economy and jobs are scarce. I will never return to Red stripe ever. After 20 years as a patron I am disappointed that no one even cared to apologize for the delay. Good luck Red Stripe the recession is not over and your jobs and financial income depends on loyal customers. You just lost one! read more

I've been here a couple of times now over the last few years. It's a cute little spot in Wayland Square - the wait staff is friendly, but the food is nothing to write home about. Most recently, I went here with my best friend and her mother for a late lunch. The place was almost empty. As a group we got the Parmesan truffle aioli fries, the truffle burger, and the Red Stripe burger. The fries were thin, dry and hard (not crispy in a good way) and we were unable to finish them. One of my all-time favorites bites the dust with tonight's dinner. Muscles in white wine and garlic were a water-based gritty mess with little or no flavor. So I have mixed reviews. I came at about 8pm on a Saturday. We expected a wait. Which really turned out to only be 10 minutes for two people. We decided to wait at the bar and have a drink. I think the hostess forgot about us. We waited about 20 minutes and she made eye contact with me and then we were suddenly told our table is ready. We were seated in the area by the back bar. I had the remainder of my beer left but we were brought water pretty quickly. There was a party of about 20-25 people taking up the entire room basically. Our waiter was also their main waiter so he was very distracted. I give him credit because he worked hard. I tipped him well but we weren't given the service we deserved because we were seated in the same section as this huge party. It was very very loud in there. The food took about 45 minutes to come out after we ordered. My friend had chowder which came with no spoon and it sat for about 10 minutes until they came back with one. Then dinner was a while later. The waiter apologized because the kitchen was out of bread so we didn't have anything to munch on while we waited. My friend ordered a fancy bourbon drink which took 15 minutes to get despite being seated right near the bar. When we did get our food it was very good. He had the salmon and I just had a naked burger add cheese and bacon with a side of fries. (I keep it pretty simple). No dessert. I just stuck with water once I finished my beer because I didn't want to get stuck waiting. Overall we both enjoyed our meals. Red Stripe is a bustling, high-quality restaurant on Angell Street, and it never seems to disappoint. It's one of my favorites in Providence. It's a white tablecloth sort of place, with a family restaurant friendliness. Parking can easily be found on any of the side streets. On a recent visit during Thanksgiving break, we ended up ordering a soup and an entree each, and regretted ordering the soup only because they made us too stuffed for dessert. The clam chowder was rich and flavorful, with bacon bits, a heavy dose of clams, and toasted bread. The roasted tomato soup was also solid with a really nice dill créme fraîche on top (though I wished for more of that). Our entrees in order of increasing deliciousness were: - Red Stripe Burger: This was a little underwhelming--large in size, yes, but pretty dry and flavorless. The guacamole and Havarti cheese only mellowed everything out. The accompanying frites were pretty tasty, but I preferred the ketchup over the aioli that they came with. - Moroccan Half Chicken: The chicken was incredibly juicy and the Moroccan-style frites were seasoned so well. - Red Devil Pasta: My dad loves seafood, but only reserves cholesterol-heavy meals for restaurant outings only, so it was very natural for him to order this spicy linguine pasta dish with shrimp, scallops, mussels, and clams. He was pleased with it, and you'll be too. - Pappardelle Bolognese: This was as good as any bolognese I've had in fantastic NYC Italian restaurants--the pappardelle was boiled to a toothsome and the sauce was velvety and rich. Likelihood of another visit: Very likely! I've actually never had the moules frites here, which is a real shame. In addition, I'd love to come here for lunch or brunch one day. read more

Red Stripe is one of my go-to spots. It's perfectly nestled between casual and fancy. You're not out of place if you wear jeans and you're not out of place if you're in a suit. The food is delicious. There's something for everyone. The menu offers entrees for $9 and entrees for over $20. There are a few good options for vegetarians. They are happy to cater to your preferences. They usually have a seasonal cocktail list and several beers on tap. If you save room for dessert, I suggest the giant cookie pie. Sooooo good. I suggest making reservations. read more

As I travel for work I do my best to support local restaurants. I am currently staying within a a hundred feet from this restaurant and have offered pick up on a few occasions. Food has always been good along with the service, unfortunately tonight took a drastic turn. Upon arriving to pick up my take out I called as before so they could bring my bag to front door since I had walked from next door. The hostess became very rude on the phone and instructed me that I had to drive up to the back. I explained I had walked from next door and in the past there had been no issue. She them told me I had to walk down the alley between them and cvs where all the employees were smoking and go to the back door. Once I received food and returned home I did note that not a single table was being used out front therefore it would of not been an inconvenience. My frites were perfect, but the steak was cold and extremely rubbery!! Too many restaurants in area to return to this one...customer service is everything!! read more

Probably my favoritre restaurant in the P, I love this place. Owned and operated by Jamie D'Oliveira of Mill's Tavern fame, this Wayland Square Brasserie is legit. The menu is relatively diverse, nightly specials tend to be FrancoAmerican comfort food. Sandwhiches are huge and aire on the side of 'basic gourmet". I am most impressed by their selection of Moules Frites, mussels served in your choice of 5 or 6 preparation styles (I get the portugese, almost always) with a side of Pomme Frite and aoili. The order is impossibly huge, runs like 13 bills and is phenomenal. My 4 rather than 5 follows this logic: it is so crowded that you wait always. After two plus years open, still the hottest table on the East Side. Great mix of bar crowd, families and diners. The place gets boozey, they serve Colt 45 40's, have a great wine list and somalier, and impeccable service. But the wait sucks.
