This restaurant was very nice inside and in a cute part of Providence! Super friendly staff & quick service. The drinks were very good, the strawberry spritz was a special. We got the steak frites, which are a staple, and a definite recommendation. The bolognese was also very good! The bread is sourdough. The calamari was good, however, there was not as much meat compared to the amount of peppers. The cookie pie was delicious. Definitely a must go!!
It has been a while since I had a dinner here. I am here with my friends. Great spot in Wayland Sq. Street parking is hard to find, but once inside, we were greeted with friendly staff and have us seated for our reservation. We started with some calamari and muscles. Our favorite is the classic fisherman's platter. This place has always been consistent in terms of service and food quality. This time was not exception. The atmosphere is pretty classy. A large dining area and the two bars - the main one and the smaller, more intimate one in the back. This is a place I would be happy to bring a date or my parents to have a great dinner.
We've been to Red Stripe once before for RI Food Fights #BestBurgerRI & it was my #1 burger that year. We've always wanted to go back & Providence Restaurant Week offered the perfect opportunity: $49.99 three-course dinner for two. We ordered an affordable bordeaux that paired nicely with both my steak & hubby's salmon. A little spicy with a fruity finish & a gorgeous ruby red color. You selected one of the six appetizers to share. When at Red Stripe, you gotta get the mussels! There are six different mussel options & on the recommendation of our server, we ordered the Mouclade: curry, garlic, shallots, white wine, finished with coconut milk. I need to go back to try the Poulette: parsley & chive, garlic, shallots, white wine, finished with cream. The crusty bread was perfect for dipping into the mussels broth. And yes, we drank the remaining broth from the bowl! I opted for the Steak Frites: 36-hour house-marinated 10oz grilled hanger steak topped with Chef's butter, over arugula, red onion, lemon vinaigrette & served with house frites. Everything about this dish was perfection! Steak was flavorful, frites were just the right amount of crispy outside & tender inside, surprise salad under the steak with a delicious lemon vinaigrette that cut through the richness of the meat. Hubby selected the Hot Honey Salmon: grilled salmon glazed with house-made hot honey, served with seasonal vegetables & citrus cilantro lime rice. It was a generous portion of salmon with a sweet glaze with a bit of spice. I didn't care for the seasonal veggies but the citrus in the rice was delicious. You selected one of two options for dessert: tiramisu or New York-style cheesecake. We were both pretty full by the time dessert came around so we weren't disappointed that the tiramisu was weirdly firm. I would have been much happier with a bowl of fresh strawberries & cream. Just sayin'. The food was great, server was delightful & the restaurant is gorgeous! NOM NOM NOM #YUM
The only thing keeping this from 5 stars in the SERVICE. Our waitress was slow and snarky, likely new. But WOW was the food good. As were the chefs and manager. Very kind people. Food got out FAST, even on such a busy night needing reservations. The dinner for 2 is an absolute bargain! The mussels cles in the red stripe style (we've never done a cream base before) was so perfect and delicious. We ended up asking for bread to finish it off! My lobster mac and cheese (special) was so perfect, especially with that added fry sauce from the mussels (def add fries for 2-3$) The salmons were a bit under seasoned, the non hot honey version was wayyy better. Very high quality food for fair prices, wonderful ambience. Left without leftovers
The drinks and food were very good! I had a pear cocktail that was very flavorful but not too strong. The truffle burger was very well cooked, and the huge side of truffle fries were delicious! My only complaint is that the mushroom that was on the burger was in one large piece and very chewy. I ended up taking it off of the burger, so it definitely lost a little something. My husband's schnitzel was well cooked and tasty too. The service was prompt but not overbearing at all. We waited a little long once we sat down but we were also tucked away in the corner in the back room. The drinks and food came pretty quickly. I was impressed with how reasonable the prices were too. Overall, a solid dinner option!
I had come here before but for dinner. My friend and I came here on a Wednesday for lunch and it was a very good time. Street parking was okay, there were a couple spots close by and a lot more a half to one block or so away. We made reservations just in case and I am glad we did since it did start to get busy at around 2 pm. We were seated by the large windows, which I liked since it brought in a lot of natural light despite it being a rainy day. I tried their berry mocktail and it was delicious, but I wish they had crushed the mint to bring out more of that flavor. As a starter, we shared their crispy artichokes which were flavorful and paired well with the sauce provided. As my entrée, I ordered the truffle burger with fries. The burger patty was delicious, especially the patty since you could really taste the grilled flavor. The mushroom was good, but was a bit tough, so I had to bite a little harder to avoid pulling it all out in one bite. I wish the red onion was cooked a little more for a caramelized flavor, but it was a good topping nonetheless. The arugula and tomato were fresh, and the goat cheese gave it a creamy touch. The buns were perfectly crispy. I was also really excited for the fries since they're on the thinner side, a bit oily, crunchy, wobbly, and overall, a combination of all the things fries should be. The truffle flavor was great, I wish there was more just because I love truffle, and next time I will ask for some parmesan on top. Our waiter was kind and attentive. I'm also glad this place is open on a Monday --when some places aren't.

Eat here and come hungry! They give very generous portions of GOOD food. We fully enjoyed our meals and the atmosphere reminds me of old school Italian. Everything is cooked fresh and they have an open style kitchen to prove it. The Pineapple Express cocktail wasn't worth the $12 but they made my husband fresh lemonade and he said that was good. Do yourself a favor and bring your appetite here! read more
Three stars only because the waiter was great. We had a 6pm reservation on a Saturday night. They sat us as a high top bar table in the back bar with no table cloth and bar stools. We asked if we could have a table with chairs and they moved us to far back room. It was freezing and we never took our jackets off. Our waiter was incredibly accommodating and often apologetic for the flaws in the restaurant. We ordered The French onion soup and chowder. French onion soup was incredibly tasty however the top half of it was cold while the bottom was warm at best. The chowder was great; but was cool. We had a few appetizers including the Brussels sprouts. They were terrible. Drenched in oil and no flavor. They we so greasy of you pushed a folk the oil oozed out. The deviled eggs were average. Had the truffle burger. Requested it because medium and it was well done. Wasn't impressed. However they did give a huge portion of fries that were good. It was very busy so I will give them that, but I have to say I was very disappointed. read more

Went to red stripe for lunch. The red stripe burger is huge and juicy (I got medium rare). They did mess up our orders and give us fries instead of salad for the side, but they apologized and corrected that. We went for my birthday and they gave me a 7 layer chocolate cake which was also delicious! However, they were not upfront about the cost.. we all thought a birthday cake slice would be complimentary but apparently it cost $9.01...1 cent for a birthday scoop of icecream and $9 for a slice of cake. I felt bad for my friends who tried to surprise me and thought it was complimentary.. (they usually are at places that do surprises!) I also thought the burgers were a bit overpriced at $12 (without tip/tax), but overall a good delicious burger and good dining experience. It is a good place for people with nut allergies who can't go to five guys. read more

My bff took me to the Red Stripe in my birthday, august 24th. First time there for both of us; she wanted to try something new and saw it had good reviews. We went late for lunch, so there were inly a few people there; weather was nice so we sat outside. The service was 5 stars! I wish I remembered our waitress name because she was awesome! Personable, informative, very friendly ad we got everything we needed! Food and drinks came out quick qnd perfect! For drinks i had the watermelon sangria (light and not too sweet); my bff had the French martini. Both very tasty (we had a couple!) Food was Great!! There were so options that sounded great, and after having issues deciding on one thing to order, we decided to share two meals. We ordered the Linguine with clams and the Thai Cioppino. They were both so good!! The seafood was well prepared and so flavorful! For desert we shared a creme brûlée, and our sweet waitress put a candle in it and sang happy birthday!! I would definitely go back and order the same! read more

Dinner on a Saturday night during the pandemic. Had reservations so no waiting, plenty of street parking. Only issue was we were seated at a dirty table - which was quickly rectified when we mentioned it. Dividers between the tables and empoyees with masks on. Pleasant staff and quick service. Food was plentiful and not overly priced. Overall, a nice bistro for a night out. Our table had the truffle burger, grilled cheese, tomato soup, and chicken parm. Definitely try the eggs! read more

Red Stripe is a bustling, high-quality restaurant on Angell Street, and it never seems to disappoint. It's one of my favorites in Providence. It's a white tablecloth sort of place, with a family restaurant friendliness. Parking can easily be found on any of the side streets. On a recent visit during Thanksgiving break, we ended up ordering a soup and an entree each, and regretted ordering the soup only because they made us too stuffed for dessert. The clam chowder was rich and flavorful, with bacon bits, a heavy dose of clams, and toasted bread. The roasted tomato soup was also solid with a really nice dill créme fraîche on top (though I wished for more of that). Our entrees in order of increasing deliciousness were: - Red Stripe Burger: This was a little underwhelming--large in size, yes, but pretty dry and flavorless. The guacamole and Havarti cheese only mellowed everything out. The accompanying frites were pretty tasty, but I preferred the ketchup over the aioli that they came with. - Moroccan Half Chicken: The chicken was incredibly juicy and the Moroccan-style frites were seasoned so well. - Red Devil Pasta: My dad loves seafood, but only reserves cholesterol-heavy meals for restaurant outings only, so it was very natural for him to order this spicy linguine pasta dish with shrimp, scallops, mussels, and clams. He was pleased with it, and you'll be too. - Pappardelle Bolognese: This was as good as any bolognese I've had in fantastic NYC Italian restaurants--the pappardelle was boiled to a toothsome and the sauce was velvety and rich. Likelihood of another visit: Very likely! I've actually never had the moules frites here, which is a real shame. In addition, I'd love to come here for lunch or brunch one day. read more
Red Stripe is one of my go-to spots. It's perfectly nestled between casual and fancy. You're not out of place if you wear jeans and you're not out of place if you're in a suit. The food is delicious. There's something for everyone. The menu offers entrees for $9 and entrees for over $20. There are a few good options for vegetarians. They are happy to cater to your preferences. They usually have a seasonal cocktail list and several beers on tap. If you save room for dessert, I suggest the giant cookie pie. Sooooo good. I suggest making reservations. read more

Came here for a lunch date on a July afternoon. Service and food were both excellent. Our waitress was super friendly and personable; very genuine. I loved how the bartender came up to us and asked what we thought about our cocktails. Have never experienced this in a restaurant, and thought it was both authentic and awesome. Very nice guy. My date's Hanger Steak was excellent; cooked rare. The frites that came along with it were equally delicious. The Pulled Pork Sandwich I ordered was amazing. Pork was lean, not drenched in sauce, and had just the right amount of cranberry sauce and coleslaw in it, too. Side salad was perfectly tossed in dressing as well. My date's mudslide was strong and delicious, but my Eiffel Tower wasn't too strong and sweeter than I wanted it to be. What docks this place two points are the following: Parking was an issue. They don't have a parking lot, so you're forced to park on the street. Plus, Providence rarely has any open street spots without having you walk quite the distance; I'm only complaining about walking because that day, it was pouring cats and dogs. The open kitchen is cool, but not when you smell like food afterwards. Also felt like the layout and atmosphere were lacking. Had higher expectations in terms of seating arrangements and ambiance, especially for a French establishment such as this one. But otherwise: well lit, clean, amazing food and awesome service. Oh my goodness. If you like seafood, this is a gem! The mussels are phenomenal and so juicy and huge. They were definitely my favorite part of the meal. Paella was good, but not as good as the artichokes or gnocchi. The calamari was great (loved the jalapeños!) and We ordered several dishes and shared amongst us. Definitely the way to go if you want to try a lot of items. Portions are generous and everything we tried was worth ordering! read more

Probably my favoritre restaurant in the P, I love this place. Owned and operated by Jamie D'Oliveira of Mill's Tavern fame, this Wayland Square Brasserie is legit. The menu is relatively diverse, nightly specials tend to be FrancoAmerican comfort food. Sandwhiches are huge and aire on the side of 'basic gourmet". I am most impressed by their selection of Moules Frites, mussels served in your choice of 5 or 6 preparation styles (I get the portugese, almost always) with a side of Pomme Frite and aoili. The order is impossibly huge, runs like 13 bills and is phenomenal. My 4 rather than 5 follows this logic: it is so crowded that you wait always. After two plus years open, still the hottest table on the East Side. Great mix of bar crowd, families and diners. The place gets boozey, they serve Colt 45 40's, have a great wine list and somalier, and impeccable service. But the wait sucks. After hearing many good recommendations for this place, I finally got to try it on Sunday. Red Stripe is definitely a must-go in Providence, especially if you go to college here. I ordered the Red Stripe eggs Benedict, and my boyfriend ordered the Red Stripe moules & frites. I have to say that the eggs Benedict was not worth the $14, yet it was still really delicious. It was two fluffy and perfectly poached eggs sitting atop salty prosciutto, sweet and tangy cooked tomato, and crunchy English muffins, smothered in a rich but thin hollandaise sauce. It also came with a side of crunchy, hearty, well-seasoned home fries that were amazing dipped in the hollandaise. My boyfriend's mussels, on the other hand, seemed like a fantastic deal for $12. He got a load of delicious, tender, perfectly cooked mussels swimming in a golden, savory broth as well as a cylinder of thin, crisp frites and aioli. We shared the two dishes and left full-to-bursting. Pro-tip: dip fries in egg yolk! The service was fast and friendly, and the decor is definitely unique. With so many incredible places to dine in Providence, it's always a slight bummer when you happen upon a "just average" spot. My fiance and I ate at Red Stripe last weekend and were happy to snag a table in the packed restaurant with just a few minutes wait. I will say that although it was graduation weekend for a few colleges/universities and the place was busy, our service was spot on. We started with a plate of buttermilk fried chicken and polenta frites with honey beer mustard, which were probably the best part of the meal. Salty, savory, and altogether irresistible. I went light for dinner with a chopped salad with charred red onion vinaigrette and Nick had the duck confit due (leg and crispy duck roulades) with baluga lentils, arugula & piccalilli. I still can't quite put my finger on it but nothing jumped out at me as completely delicious and worth the price. Overall, fine, but nothing to rave about. If I come back I'll try the moules! read more

I don't care what you say, I completely and utterly approve of a menu that is grouped by protein and has cute little pictures of each as the heading. Especially when there is an entire egg section and it isn't your typical breakfast-only omelette. I loved the bread, loved my entree, and the busy atmosphere and open windows on a summer night and loved that it was in walking distance of my house. I didn't love throwing my wine on the family next to me, but at least it was only a half bottle I wasted? This is probably the first place I would recommend to friends and family who are in the area. Cute, unique, and food that actually lives up. Giant salads that can be shared as a group - if you aren't weirded out by communal lettuce, giant piles of frites - none of this "gourmet means small portions" b.s. I'm sold. read more

I've been here multiple times for Sunday brunch. This is one of the few brunch places in Providence that allows you to make a reservation. I usually order some variation of eggs Benedict (my favorite is the crab cake eggs benny), and substitute the home fries with truffle fries. The home fries here are rather dry and lack flavor in my opinion, but the truffle fries with aioli are great! The eggs Benedict itself is not the best I have had, but it hits the spot. For dessert, I usually convince everyone in my party that we NEED to get the bread pudding French toast with a side of ice cream. Seriously. This french toast is the only reason I come here so often. It's not your typical french toast- it's crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Pair it with coffee and vanilla ice cream and you won't regret it! Ambience is great and service is always prompt. The only thing that is less than spectacular is the noise level, but it doesn't bother me too much. Management is very kind, they've actually donated gift cards to a charity food drive I organize every year. It's great to see management of local businesses get involved in the community, and take the time to talk to customers. Overall, this is definitely one of my go-to brunch spots in Providence and I'll definitely be back many times. read more

The best thing about this place was the waitress and my drink. Everything else was a fail. The hummus plate had everything, but hummus. Well maybe just a spoonful of hummus. It took like 25 minutes to get some dang bread! My entree, which was $25, came out burnt. I had to send it back because who really wants to eat burnt scallops? Plus my entree was so small! Don't let the pic fool you, the corn and beans took up most of the dish. I felt like I was eating in France and even there I had bigger portions. My friends fries were cold. My other friends mac n cheese was missing the cheese taste and was oh so bland. It was just a hot mess all around. I will never go back! read more

Brunch at Red Stripe was a gluttonous affair (though it didn't have to be). I always have trouble deciding between savory and sweet fare, so I usually get both, resulting in a post brunch food coma. Luckily for me, Charlie C. is just as much a glutton as I am, and was willing to split the Bread Pudding French Toast in addition to the eggs benedict and BBQ pulled pork hash we ordered for ourselves. Our entrees were great and heartily portioned, but the french toast was a bit of a let down. Bread pudding is practically my favorite thing in the world, so I was a little disappointed when it was basically just a dense hunk of bread on a plate doused in syrup. It really needed something (blueberries, nuts, chocolate chips, ANYTHING) to brighten it up. Service was sloooow, but friendly. Our table was tucked in a corner where I was ass-bumped in the back of the head about 300 times by customers trying to get by. I'd suggest the staff space out the tables a bit. Will definitely be back. It's right in Charlie's neighborhood, and not even dead flies in the window could keep me away from that hash. read more
