Always friendly, efficient service. I have come a few times in groups and have always been accommodated. We've had kids with us and they're very friendly towards them, which we love. It may be my favorite drink ever. We got the bean dip and chips and guacamole. The bean dip was very good and generously portioned. On the other hand, 10 dollars for the tiny ramekin of guacamole is kind of a rip. I wish the chips and salsa were complementary anyways, it's nice when it's a free little treat. Loved the vibes and restaurant overall. The service was great and so quick - we were top of mind and quickly served and our server came around a few times to check in. The food was also great, loved the fresh and warm chips, they really did hit the spot especially on a cold day. I loved my margarita, it was perfect in terms of tequila and Serrano overall but wasn't spicy so it's doable and it wasn't sweet either which I liked. Thoroughly enjoyed my first visit to Red Star. Service was very quick and attentive. What i noticed first about the menu is that for Seattle, prices were quite reasonable. In fact, my burrito, which was great, was only $14. That is less than I normally pay for any entree or sandwich in the city. It's for sure a Mexican themed restaurant so as you can imagine the ambiance is just that. Great spot for a summer afternoon happy hour. They have tacos for a few bucks (veggie options available) and margs for $9. Their back patio is covered with heaters but the sunshine streaming through the skylights in the summer is hard to beat. Their tacos are decent. It tasted like black current juice, it's so refreshing in summer and after eating a spicy taco. I got 3 different tacos, one of them was so spicy for me but they all tasted so amazing. Burritos are also huge. -The fusion tacos are flavorful and creative. I think the flour tortillas are handmade or fresh or something because they are warm and fluffy and addicting. I tried the Agave Shrimp and Elote ($5.5) and Steak Salad ($5.5) tacos. Neutral: -Queso ($12) was tasty, but very salty. -There were some people chillin there working on their laptops. I just wish they gave me a spoon or fork next time for the flan when I order takeout. My daughter recommended this for dinner one evening and I could see why it is one of her favorite places to go. it wasn't too crowded and we got seated right away. We ordered a few beers and looked over the menu. The waiter returned, asked what we wanted, helped clarify some choices, and off he went. Our food was out quickly. And since we all got more or less an assortment of Tacos we got to taste a large portion of the menu. There was nothing disappointing about any ones choice. We ate, had a few beers, and chatted for a long time. Nice to be able to have a meal and not have to scream across the table or the place be so dark that you could not see who you were chatting with. Red Star is a classic and reliable favorite. Kitchen is open till 1 AM, which in Seattle, is RARE!! The food is not necessarily "authentic" but always delicious! They have some great seasonal offerings to try, such as the pozole in the winter (yum!). Highly recommend the nachos for a hungry group, easy crowd pleaser. They have lots of unique tacos, as well as some of the more classic ones. They must've been short-staffed when we arrived, and we had to wait ~20 min for a table with little to no acknowledgement from the staff. Even after we got to the table, it was quite a wait before we could order. The food itself is great -- I loved the guacamole and salsa. I appreciated that there were pescatarian and vegetarian-friendly tacos, with the catfish being my favorite. Their frozen marg was also delicious. At first glance, I thought my tacos were a little too small with portions, just a little, but after that first bite, I was gifted with so many different flavors and richness, and that was only the first bite. I got one carne and 1 Phillycheese steak taco, both were phenomenal and had so many flavors and was also filling as well surprisingly. The chips and salsa (house made salsa btw) was very delicious as well, the salsa wasn't spicy but had more of a roasted garlic taste. Overall I would definitely recommend as this place is also a decently sized bar as well with a wide variety of drinks. We enjoyed our time here, and the staff was very friendly and attentive. We found parking without issue (especially after 6pm). They have a couple of TVs and they were showing the Kraken playoff game. I also really appreciated the way they designated their menu gluten free -- they flagged items that had gluten (versus the other way around) which for whatever reason, made it easier for me to scan the menu. The reason for not rating this any higher is that the food just wasn't that good. When things were spicy, they were spicy without that added flavor. When they weren't, they were just kind of bland. The ingredients didn't seem to flow together. We did come on Margarita Monday and members of our group did enjoy their drinks! I don't think I would come back for a meal but if anyone ever wanted to socialize and drink, they do have a very nice atmosphere. read more
