No mall is complete without a mongolian bbq restaurant inside the food court, and for the Westfield Santa Anita, Red Iron is the bbq spot to check out if you have a Mongolian bbq craving. My husband ordered a mongolian bbq bowl. With COVID-19 still at large, the business had pivoted to the way they make their bbq noodles. For example, when ordering noodles and all the fixings, you can no longer fill the bowl yourself, the staff does it for you. I remember back in the day, I used to stuff by bowls and squeeze as much meat down as I could to maximize how much I spent on these noodles. Mongolian noodles are a great junk food remedy in my opinion. So if you're looking for a greasy dish, look no further than this place. read more

This restaurant is located in the food court at the Santa Anita mall. It used to be under a different name. I haven't had Mongolian bbq in awhile but I feel it doesn't taste as good. First you pay. You choose either entree or the works (includes soup and drink) then you get the food prepared. First, some changes. Due to COVID safety instead of getting the meats and veggies yourself the staff fill your bowl for you. The food is blocked off from the outside so that's good, less people touching/breathing on the food. So they get your meats, vegetables and sauces. They then take your bowl along with a bowl of noodles to the cook. You are able to see the cook prepare your friend. He cooks multiple customers' food at the same time. Everything was going well until I see he was pretty done with mine and used the chef chopsticks to flip the other customer's raw food before using those same chopsticks to transfer into my takeout box. I cane hoke and reheates the food just in case. Taste-wise it was pretty bland. I suppose healthier for you....?? The staff was pretty friendly so I'll give them more than 1 star. read more

So cheap give only 5 pieces of meat what a scam nastyyy. Please dont go here. Food looks unfresh too

This place is so good. All the workers are friendly and great especially the one pictured below. Fast service and fair pricing and it's fun to watch the chefs cook up your food. For sauces I recommended asking them to do a little bit of everything. Would come again especially for the great service read more

The fact that you change and not allowed the customers to get for themselves and your server literally counted the number of meat pieces is just so bad. Also, I was the only one there and she was rude. read more

We were a bit hungry and decided on this fast food meal spot. It's fun to watch the cooks make your meal in front of you. The only drawback is the ordering process as my meal was being made another customer was telling the cook to ad her condiments to my meal. Her meal was already done and sitting there but she's barking orders for my meal. I had to advise her 'Hey lady that's my food being cooked. Keep an eye on your noodles while it's on the huge wok. read more

Red Iron is our go to whenever we want a quick meal in the mall. My daughter loves their stir fry egg noodles and would finish adult portion on my her own. Happy toddler = happy mom. They do go a bit heavy on the sauces so adjust accordingly if you are sensitive to sodium! read more

Great Mongolian BBQ place. Its on the pricier side, and some staff put in less meat so I'll give 4 star. Food comes out great though every time, never had any issues. I always get the Beef and Pork and they do usually help stack it up high. The sauce is not too strong, its perfect. Would definitely recommend. read more

Haven't had this in a while, used to eat it when it was called something else - I think Mongolian BBQ? My sister and I decided to get this for lunch, while the kids got Sbarro, Panda and Chicken Now. What I like most about it is you get to put exactly what you want in your noodles. Decent food, but they put a lot of garlic. Other than that, it tastes good and its your way, right away. read more

Been a customer for over 10 years and watched it steadily decline in customer service and food quality I've been going to the one in West Covina which is a way better one but today I was in Arcadia and decided to give it another try and it was a mistake the food was terrible and the amount of protein they give you is laughable after today I will only go to the one in the West Covina mall. It's disappointing how bad this place has gotten read more

TRASH!!!!!! Been coming here for years and new management STINGY. I asked for double the sauce and when I did they decided to give 2 half scoops instead of full ones as I saw with the person in front of me was getting. I asked for mostly beef and lady miss heard me and thought only beef and when I corrected her, she ended up taking beef off my bowl to only 3 slices. SUPER LOW QUALITY read more

Do not mobile order from this place! I placed an order for 7 entrees and 4 of my orders was not correct! Tastes really bad, they forgot the sauce on all of them. There was only 4 slices of chicken in my plate, and they put in the wrong toppings. I rather eat McDonald's over this... never again TASTE 1/5 read more

Helpful and friendly employees. A plate of noodles with your choices of veggies and meat comes to about $15 including tax. This place gets super busy during the weekends and the line can get long. I recommend coming during the weekday or in the morning of weekends to avoid peak hours. read more

Great food, decent prices. If I'm looking to save money, I normally order noodles only ($3.25). The noodles come with sauces and you get to skip the meats and veggie lines. The food is good but the man who works the register (the manager?) seems very hostile. If you ask for a cup of water or napkins, he turns around, gets it without saying a word and remains expressionless. read more

The service is just ugh.. they have such a small bowl so of course food will fall out and the employee put the food that fell off the bowl back in the bowl is disgusting read more

Go to Chipotle instead. You get more for your money there. Here it is $13.50 for a plate, $15 after tax. You barely get any meat !!! A total rip off !! You get more noodles than meat and low quality noodles. All the veggies and sauces are of low quality. Would give 0 stars if I could. read more

This place is obviously located in a food court which is known for very sub-par or mediocre options/quality. So I'll try to keep that in mind while writing this review. First off, let's talk about how they don't let you fill the bowl woth the meat and veggies yourself anymore. I understand it's covid but this leads to you getting way less bang-for-your-buck. The ladies were not very generous with the amount of meat I got. Although I will say, it wasn't too little. I just would've liked the option of adding a TON. The flavor was very lackluster. I added a couple of their different sauce options but my Food still tasted so bland that I had to ask for soy sauce and chili sauce from the Panda Express to add it in my bowl. Honestly for the portion of food you get, the price isn't TOO bad, but I still give it a 3/5 because of the experience and flavor read more

Such a disappointment... we haven't been back to the mall for two years since the COVID and I was looking forward to eat here as this was my go to spot while visiting the mall. Besides the change of name, increase of price, now I can't pick my own items and stuff the bowl, but the biggest disappointment to me was the flavor. It used to be juicy and tasty and now just bland. The portion still ok so I only ate half of it and wife finished the rest, she kind liked it because it maybe "healthier". I can't say it's horrible, now I just have to think about what's the next go to spot in the future. ... unless they bring back the way it used to be. read more

Nooo, just nope. The ladies rush you when it comes to picking your meats/veggies. I wasn't done telling her what I wanted and she was quick to bring it to the cooking dude. I told her I wanted to add more stuff and she just got annoyed. The cooking dude doesn't pay attention while cooking, he gave us someone else's meat/veggies and when we told him he didn't care. And still proceeded to give us the food. Definitely do not recommend this place. Go elsewhere! read more

I was so gung ho about coming back here to eat. I have loved this spot even before it became red iron. But they no longer cook things well. I should have brought floss from the rubber bands of meat stuck in my teeth. Watching others ask for broccoli and they get 4 pieces in one plate, while a person behind me asking for broccoli and getting well beyond that, you can count it. It's just disappointing to hear people say that they would rather spend more at a mom and pop shop one. Being helpful I toldthem the I would no longer come here and I told them where I like to go. I had to find one when quality, quantity etc started going down here at red iron . Such a disappointment but it has happened over many years. There is another fabulous spot not to far here if your willing. Trust me if you want more veggies or your food cooked better than almost raw please visit the one off Colorado and Rosemead. That spot doesn't get the credit it deserves. I am a Chinese food fanatic unfortunately this place doesn't cut it when there is no standards of measurements with the Ingredients. Your going to charge what you charge at least have some decorum if quality. My plate was not cooked long enough where the flavor is in the food instead of piling up In The middle of the griddle or swept off with the trash food. They have lines here but I would spend $15 to eat my food rather floss it out my teeth with it being undercooked and lacking for flavor. I mean I watch all the flavor scoops pour off my food right back into the containers they were scooping it from. Blessings to those who enjoy but it's been years since you had good quality from this place. I love Chinese food like air. If anyone knows a better spots please share. This is a luxury that's not a luxury for what you get. Big miss in what would have been tomorrow lunch. Last time I'm giving the benefit of doubt here. Like before blessings to those who enjoy. read more

Finally open during the pandemic! Due to covid-19, they don't allow their customers to reach and grab their own choice of meat and veggies. They have a glass covering and the workers actually help you grab your items into your bowl. They don't mess around though! They stack it pretty well the two times I have visited. I'm definitely glad they're open again! read more

Should've read the reviews before trying... but as a Mongolian bbq lover didn't even need to think twice about it....food itself was mediocre it was bland and had a funny aftertaste...the beef had a very dark color and almost didn't even seem like real meat. Please DO NOT come here during covid! Cook uses hands to grab your items instead of metal tongs! I understand that the business thinks a gloved hand is safe, but I did not appreciate the same hand that dipped into something wet and then a dry ingredient. I was a huge fan of this place when they were self serve because you are able to customize whatever you wanted in your bowl! I am very simple and only like a few specific items in my bowl. Therefore I would fill my whole bowl with two or three items because that was basically all I wanted. However, now that they are the ones who put your bowl together you, are only allowed one or two pieces of what you want! At first, I told her that I just wanted broccoli and bean sprouts and she said even though I just wanted two items I can only have one scoop of each. Instead of in the past, where if you just wanted two items, you were able to have more abundant of the specific item that you wanted. So for those of you that don't put everything on your bowl, please wait until they are back to self-serve! read more

Red Iron - Plastic. - Mongolian Near Me - Arcadia, California

Let me start off by saying that the cashier who took my order was exceptionally wonderful. She was so above and beyond friendly and helpful! Two thumbs up! Red Iron seems to have taken the place of Great Khan's Mongolian at the Santa Anita Mall. I have no clue if it is owned by the same people and has simply undergone some rebranding or if it is a new company altogether but whatever the case, I do know that Great Khan's is no longer there and Red Iron has taken its place in the food court as the new self-serve Mongolian noodle bowl restaurant. Anywho, something I noticed right away is the signage they have up, asking patrons not to push down on the food in the bowl (lol). I've been to other similar establishments and have never seen similar signage so that was surprising. I can't say I don't understand where they're coming from but it still took me by surprise. Secondly, and perhaps what I disliked most, is that you cannot serve yourself the baby corns. While it is typical for the staff to serve sauces and spices, it is unusual for any vegetables to not be self-serve. The fact that I was unable to serve my own baby corns resulted in my bowl having only 4 small pieces. Not enough! Thirdly, they skimp out on the noodles. Of all the similar fast food restaurants I've tried, this one served the least amount of noodles by far. I'm guessing they do that (and the baby corn thing) in order to save money but let me tell ya, it leaves the customer unsatisfied. Overall, the food is tasty and the service I received was great but I probably won't return due to the issues described above. read more

I love this place!!!! I think the quality has gone down just a bit over the years but it's still my favorite place to go to for Mongolian stir-fried noodles. I always stack my bowl to the top and their sauces are so yummy. I know they've downsized their bowls since my high school days but it's still a convenient spot to get my noodle fix. If you happen to be at the mall, give this place a try! They also have sriracha sauce and takeout bags, but you have to ask for it separately. read more

Red Iron took over the OG Mongolian BBQ spot that was here before, Great Khans. I am pretty sure they are the same people, everything is exactly the same. Service was fast when I came. When it gets busy, I am sure it moves really slow. The topping line can move slow if the person is going at a snail pace loading their bowl. Entree Only - $9.25 - You basically get a bowl to fill with toppings. They top it with sauces and noodles. They cook it on the flat top grill with water and soy sauce. The meat is frozen. I always push the beef rolls down (you are not supposed to) since they purposely roll it to take up space. The veggies look pretty fresh. Cannot complain. Good freshly cooked meal for a decent mall price. Always hits the spot for me. read more

The downside is the servers give you so little compared to the one at West Covina Mall (Which is Self-Served still!) I would put a lot of beef and pork on my bowl but here it's soo little and personally not worth it. read more

It used to be Great Khan. I drove all the way to the mall because I was craving Mongolian noodles. I can't say much has changed. The food is still the same. The only reason why it is receiving three stars is because they did not clean their grill. The iron grill was so dirty, and they just kept cooking on top of it without scraping it off. My food is covered with burned particles. A tad exaggerated, but I feel like I'm eating cancer in every bite. read more
