Stopped in to give this place another visit. Loved the food the first time so thought I would stop in again. I want a Chinese but just a small amount and this place is perfect for that. There's something about the mix of meats, veggies, sauces, and spices that gives me that sense of control when the world outside seems beyond my control. And Sun's has a good selection of what I'm looking for in my entrees when I gather my ingredients together. They may not have lamb like New China, but they do have crab sticks in addition to the usual shrimp, beef, pork, and chicken. And the veggie selection was quite robust with both jalapeño and green peppers, as well as cilantro. My plate turned out amazing. The service was definitely more friendly compared to New China, where normally I go. The counter person and grill jockey just seemed friendly and helpful when I interacted with them, including letting me know about the one refill policy upfront when they could've charged me more if I had gotten a second one due to not asking. The space was okay. It was laid out a little weird for me with the bbq space and the Chinese food space bisecting the dining room almost in half. But it was alright. I wanted a small meal but didn't want to go the fast food route so I stopped in here. I got a little of all of my favorites: honey shrimp, pepper chicken, kung Pao chicken, poached fish, green beans, spare ribs and their delicious sesame ball. ALL OF THIS cost $6.82!!!! TL:DR Service was great, the food was even better. Me and my girlfriend came here looking for a new Mongolian spot because our old one went out of business. (Rip Puente Hills Mall Mongolian BBQ) When we came to the place, we were the first customers. We were greeted by staff and we were first confused because we didn't know it was self serve. And the staff who helped out us gave us the basic run down of what to do and the prices. Which is 7.99$ per pound on either Mongolian or Chinese food. When we went ahead and got a bowl and started adding our portions, we were amazed at the selection they had. After finally getting all our meat and veggies, we dropped it off at the counter near the stove top and they cooked it for us within 2-4 minutes. When it was done we took it to the register counter to pay and only paid 13.16 for 1.68 pounds. After that we sat down and from the first smell we got from the food we knew.. it was going to be great. It tasted so amazing and was a 10/10 experience. On my last several visits, I've requested the cook on the Mongolian grill to not use any extra sauce on my plate, but continues to use an obscene amount despite my requests. Heard about several new restaurant locations opening up in the Covina area. Today we wanted to try Sun's. This is like almost all Mongolian BBQ's, same concept one round flat grill and the cook takes your meal and cooks it up nice and hot. This location is in another strip mall with a few major eating locations in the same mall. Parking can get congested at times (Saturdays and Sundays because of Chunky Cheese in the area) Handicapped parking stalls are two maybe three. They share parking with other businesses. Several tables and chairs enough for approximately 25-30 and seemed clean. We were greeted by a worker behind the counter and he was very nice and we asked how this all works. Yes they weight your food which isn't that expensive. A lot of options to choose from the hot grill or take out. We made our way to a self serve take out and proceeded to make our choices. Everything looked clean and food seemed fresh. Three plates to go and it was way under $35.00 !!! Hard to get this much food for a family of three for under $35.00. They also have catering available at very affordable prices. A few things I hope they take care of. HOT !!! The temperature inside the restaurant was very HOT. This is obvious because of the open flat top grill they cook some meals on. I had BBQ Pork, Orange Chicken and noodles. The BBQ Pork had some good taste to them but over salted for my taste. Noodles just didn't taste right, very dry. I'm sure some people like salt on their food and that's fine but I don't use salt at all on my food.
