That my life would depend on the morning sun Shrimp, crab, and pork Mongolian BBQ from #SunsMongolianBBQ
    Mojo S.

When life gets you down you can always count on your comfort foods to get you through it. For me Mongolian BBQ has always been one of those comfort foods. There's something about the mix of meats, veggies, sauces, and spices that gives me that sense of control when the world outside seems beyond my control. And Sun's has a good selection of what I'm looking for in my entrees when I gather my ingredients together. They may not have lamb like New China, but they do have crab sticks in addition to the usual shrimp, beef, pork, and chicken. And the veggie selection was quite robust with both jalapeño and green peppers, as well as cilantro. My plate turned out amazing. The service was definitely more friendly compared to New China, where normally I go. The counter person and grill jockey just seemed friendly and helpful when I interacted with them, including letting me know about the one refill policy upfront when they could've charged me more if I had gotten a second one due to not asking. The space was okay. It was laid out a little weird for me with the bbq space and the Chinese food space bisecting the dining room almost in half. But it was alright. They had tables aplenty and the tables and general look of the restaurant were very clean and inviting. I think I may have found a new regular spot for my Mongolian BBQ needs.

This is a really good spot, very clean and the food is tasty! We got to build our own plates and I love all the options they offer.

The food is always good. I can have it for lunch and dinner the next day just the only thing is I really don't like the paper packaging. It soaks all the juice. It falls apart by the time I get home and I have to put it in bowls so that I can eat properly.

This was my first time being here and I love and appreciate the self serve Chinese food area where they also charge your plate based on the weight of your food! I love that there's another section just for your Mongolian food as well. This is a great spot for family. & friends to chat, reset, and grub on tasty comfort food!

1st Time here. I got Chinese food, wife got Mongolian BBQ. Hope she knows we are sharing :)

We lost of our fav Mongolian BBQ years ago [it was in Duarte] but this place is pretty damn close. You pay by the pound and my wife's plate was about 1.1/2 pounds. We shared that and some Chinese food I got just to try [under a pound] and we took some of her BBQ home. Place has a lot of options. Is very clean and we definitely plan to come back. The owner/manager was very friendly and the service was great.

    The plain but clean restaurant.

This place is amazing! They have both Mongolian barbecue and a hot buffet. The food is always fresh and delicious and here is the catch. It is sold by the pound. I think it is only $7.50 per pound! I wanted a small meal but didn't want to go the fast food route so I stopped in here. I got a little of all of my favorites: honey shrimp, pepper chicken, kung Pao chicken, poached fish, green beans, spare ribs and their delicious sesame ball. ALL OF THIS cost $6.82!!!! I took a picture. Now, obviously if you pile a lot of food on the plate it will cost more. My husband and I have been here several times. Don't expect ambiance. The containers are styrofoam and the decor is austere at best. Today it was just what I needed at an amazing price!

What a gem! I've been here a couple times and the food has always been fresh with refills constantly coming out! There's a section of pre-made Chinese food and a section of Mongolian ingredients that they will cook for you. Since the Chinese food looked so good I just got that. Pricing is quite affordable considering prices these days. Very happy and will definitely come back! Showed my family and my friends. Clean environment and owners are pleasant.

Me and the BF were out and about running errands today and were getting hungry so we stopped at this spot. This place is a hidden gem! Food was fresh, place was clean and all reasonably priced (it's $7.39 lb). The cashier was very kind and explained things well.

Here comes the sun, doo-doo-doo-doo Here comes the sun, and I say It's alright Very tasty food! My wife and kids love the noodles and the veggies. The meat was nice and tender my daughter put almost all of it on her plate. My son was all about the little corns. We weren't sure what to do when we walked in and a gentleman came behind the counter to guide us. You can build your own bowl and take it to the counter to get cooked in front of you. Or you can also choose from cooked ready to eat buffet style. There is a lot of tables to sit and enjoy. Although we took our food to go after an evening at the park. I asked for some hot sauce to go on the side because my kids aren't ready for the amount I put on top. One bowl is good to share, unless you are really hungry. Plenty of parking available. This spot is sure to add a little sun to your day.

Ima still a big fan of this place. The food is always prepared perfectly, the choices are plenty, customer service is always good and formerly and the prices are very affordable. It is no wonder that this place is so popular Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area and are hungry.

I found myself in West Covina for work and, feeling the hunger pangs, I turned to Yelp and noticed that Sun's Mongolian had recently opened. I've been craving some quality Mongolian BBQ but usually steer clear of the mall spots, so this seemed like the perfect alternative. Sun's has a unique setup with two buffet aisles--one offering Chinese fast food and the other stocked with raw ingredients for the Mongolian BBQ. I opted for the BBQ, assembling a bowl with noodles and a mix of veggies and meats. What's interesting is that they handle the saucing as they cook your food, so you don't have to worry about doing it yourself. Once cooked, you bring your plate to the cashier, and it's weighed at $7.39 per pound. Not a bad deal to be honest. The Mongolian BBQ really hit the spot, especially after tossing in some pineapple. If you're in the area and in the mood for something quick and inexpensive Sun's is definitely worth a visit.

Not your ordinary Mongolian BBQ! This place offers everything by the pound, like a buffet style. They have Chinese style food on one side and the Mongolian bbq on the other side. First grab a take out box and put as much food as you would like and they will weight it at the cashier. For the Mongolian side, same concept but you put as much as you like in the bowl they provide (feel free to use more than one) and take it to the chef to cook and put it in the box for you. The place is roomy, mainly self serve and pay before you eat. They have a few tables for dine in as well. Love this concept and you get so much food for the price!

    David C.

They now have soup! Both egg drop and hot and sour. It's $3.99 for a decent serving, which you do serve yourself. Was the one this missing for me here and they have it now. Steam table items were better also, but I suspect it was the timing of our visit. Will be here more now that I can get my soup on with my Mongolian!!!

Not very friendly and not really acknowledging the people that were standing waiting to be seated. Finally got a table, gave us menus and then 15 minutes go by and they haven't taken our order for drinks. As I look around there were 4 tables that had been seated, as well and no drink orders. We all waited about the same amount of time to get our drink orders. This unfortunately is why i took off 2 stars. To me, this unacceptable. After being seated and food came out, no one checked in until I needed a box and to pay. Did not feel welcomed and /or appreciated that I was supporting a small local business. Food- Brisket without the BBQ didn't have enough flavor. These types of meat don't need a hype man- the BBQ sauce. They need to be good on their own. Buuut Meat was tender. I read that their sausage is not great it's quite dry so I skipped it, my son had ordered ribs so I was going to steal from him, so I decided to get chicken- dark meat options. Chicken was very tasty, juicy and tender. It was the star of the dinner plate!!! Whaat!!! Their coleslaw- loved how everything was chopped nice and consistent- loved the Julienned green apples- again missing seasoning. DINNER ROLLS- Soooo fucken dry and not warmed up. I expect that level of hardness on my rolls when they are about to expire. Warm them up put them in a basket and give me butter. Such a small - perhaps minute action- but it was a huge miss. Other patrons were also commenting how bad the rolls were. We even joked, "death by dinner roll! " LOL. Cornbread- small portion but packed with flavor. I would say ease up on the Honey. I want to taste the corn bread too. It's unfortunate, I didn't have the experience others have had. Most likely not going to add it to my new restaurant rotation. There are other better options with better customer service.

First off, I totally recommend the Canyon City Sampler if you can't decide what to get. It can easily feed 2-3 people (I'd say 3, but 2 if you both eat a lot). Here are my thoughts on the individual meats and sides: Pork Rib - WOW. It's so tender and fall-off-the-bone. Nice BBQ flavor and just so good. (5/5) BBQ Chicken - Tasty with a nice bite and tons of flavor. I added some extra BBQ sauce to make it even better. (4.5/5) Beef Brisket - Cooked really well with a great texture. Soft and easy to eat. (4.5/5) Pulled Pork - Very good, but my least favorite of the meats. A bit drier than the rest. (4/5) Cornbread - Tasty and served with flavored butter. It's not the moistest cornbread I've had, but it's still super good. Recommended! (4.5/5) Mash & Gravy - A classic done well. The gravy has a strong flavor and is made from the brisket drippings. Tasty. (4.5/5) This place is a total hidden gem tucked away in a random corner. They serve really good BBQ at what I'd consider a reasonable price. TL;DR version: Visited on a Saturday about noon. Establishment is has very nice decor. The Premium menu selection is pricey but worth the money. Place is spacious, service is attentive, and has been deemed my new current fav KBBQ restaurant. Detailed version: Conveniently located off of Colima. lol (joking cause everything is off of Colima) But Thirsty Cow is surrounded by a lot of shops that have my interest. Costco, Costco Gas, Round1, other food spots, Frank and Sons...Target! Everything is around here. We've got done with our shopping and fun stuff and it was time for lunch. I thought I would be interesting to try out a new KKBQ spot. None of us have been and it was going to be a nice experience for everyone. Visited on a Saturday about noon Entering the establishment is a fairly large area greeted by a large logo of the restaurant and a bunch of soju bottles. To the right was a nice looking bar with some TVs and the way to the restroom. The waiting area had cold / hot water and popcorn which was nice. The rest of the restaurant was equally nice and very spacious. Party of 4 sat us in a booth with plenty of room for wiggling or possibly laying down. I always want to try the premium section of the menu. Decided to pay for lunch so we pretty much tried everything on the premium section. Our favorites were the Wagyu Delmonico Steak and the Thirsty Cow Black Angus Woodae Galbi. We were so impressed with the Premium selection that we forgot about the everything below it. Luckily there was a part 2 and during our second visit we were able to add some of the selection from the Choice portion into our meals. I think although Choice has some of my favs, the Premium section is where I will be eating during my visits. We did notice there were different types of salt provided and wanted to try them. The nieces loved the Rosemary Italian Black truffle seat salt. Lastly, I usually don't have room for dessert or care for it but since I am way too deep, might as well. Visiting Thirsty Cow has introduced me and the nieces to Melona bars and we've been hooked. Good job!! Parking: large private lot VERDICT: Rinse and repeat
