Cob sausage

I hope the staff was just having a bad night. I used to love this place, but tonight I paid $25+ for a very sad 24 cut pizza. Paper thin, not like it has been for years. Some slices had small holes in them it was so thin. Assuming new management or owners. .

I have heard so much good versus bad things about the COB, and when my friend invited me out to try it, I was in. The place is definitely outdated, feels like it has probably been this way since the beginning. My friend has been coming here her whole life and it is nostalgia to her. I was happy to tag along with her since I am always the one picking the restaurants. I also want to add the service was fast and friendly. The place was pretty crowded, but our drinks and food came out very fast! We decided to get the fried ravioli to start. They were good, average fried eats. The marinara served with it was good, and a bit spicy. Overall, you won't be disappointed with those. OKAY - The COB. I liked it! Maybe I was a hint ravenous during my visit and was excited to eat, but I don't really understand all the hate. I was literally nervous I would hate it, because I hate sweet sauce, I've had some really bad ones, but to me, this sauce was not 'overly sweet' at all. My friend said it pretty good, that for someone who eats pizza a lot, this is a nice change. Is it the 'best pizza ever'? absolutely not. Is it good - yes - and I would have it again. Try the COB, judge it yourself.

COB and Antipasti

This place is an institution in Troy, and you would never know that it is where it is unless you're from the area. The food is terrific, and it's literally one of the best antipasti in the area. I'm a pizza snob and I generally don't love niche pizza, but Red Front's COB (Cheese on bottom) is really damn good. Their sauce is sweet and I'd hate it on pasta, but on their pizza it's almost like a treat to eat. You can get it well done, but regardless it will be good. People that don't appreciate things that go outside the box, than that's on you, so don't hate... appreciate. K. Thanks. Bye. C.O.B. Sounds like a billboard top 100 hit just like the pizza!

They do have parking!

This is your typical Troy hole in the wall Italian joint. I hadn't been inside in 20 years and my mom hadn't been in since college, but she said not much has changed since she visited 40+ years ago. It was kind of dark inside, very casual and a bit of a dated look. This probably isn't the spot to go if you are looking for a swanky and romantic ambiance. Red Front is famous for it's COB (upside down) pizza. I have not had that style pizza since my visit years ago, so I was very curious to try it. My dad and I split a 6 cut pizza, this was plenty for the two of us. The COB pizza had the cheese on the bottom and sauce on the top. The sauce is really tasty and a bit sweeter. The crust had a nice texture to it. My mom wanted the antipasto salad and it was HUGE, probably something you could split as an appetizer between 4 people. My husband and I used to pick up the regular pizza (cheese on top) from here in 2014 before we moved and we LOVED it. So delicious! Red Front has a really nice selection of Italian-American classics on the menu. I think most vegetarians will be happy with the food choices.

The C.O.B. Holy sweet tomato sauce batman!

A Troy institution for many years, this bar has a dated look to say the least. One of my dining partners explained there used to be a horrible red carpet that was removed. Smart choice by the owners. The new floors look nice! The Red Front is famous for the C.O.B. which is a pizza with cheese on the bottom. I have seen this before so it is not completely unique. We ordered one with fresh garlic. Essential this is a Tomato Pie like the ones found in Utica, NY. The crust was nice and crispy and we ordered it well done. Unfortunately the sauce was so sweet it was impossible to get past. The garlic cut it down a bit but the overly sweet sauce was so overpowering I just could not imagine eating it again. I was glad I got to visit a piece of Troy history. I would have no problem meeting someone for a drink here but the pizza is a solid pass for me in the future.

a chicken burger with lettuce and tomatoes

I've been a customer at Red Front for over eight years and have had largely positive experiences. Their wait staff is kind and works hard. This review has nothing to do with them. Tonight, I ordered the same chicken cutlet sub that I've ordered over 30 times. I usually receive a chicken cutlet sandwich in return, but tonight, I did not. I was first surprised to be charged $15 for the sandwich, which (I think) the last time cost $12, but that didn't bother me. Things are getting more expensive, and I am happy to pay more for good food. I also tipped a couple dollars because again- the wait staff is great. But when I got home (10 minute walk), I realized I did not receive a chicken cutlet sub. I received a McChicken. A $15 McChicken. I first wrote "glorified" McChicken, but McChickens have the same amount of food and higher quality chicken on them than this sandwich, so I don't want to insult McDonald's. I called to voice my issue, and while the wait staff was empathetic, they offered no solution, so here I am. I have never left a negative review on a product that I've bought or a restaurant that I've been to. I usually have better things to do. I would prefer to email them than to angrily yelp my complaint, but I cannot find an email, so here I am, being that guy. I will reiterate once more that the wait staff is great, but if this is what they are being forced to serve, then this place is going downhill fast. Sad to say my tenure as a customer here is over.

Always great cob pizza, a must have when you're here. Pizza isn't the only good thing they have here, I've never actually had something I didn't like. Really enjoy the wings, especially the Thai chili. There blue cheese is amazing, also have good crab, clams and steak, to my surprise.

The food is good but the guy on the phone is by far the rudest human being on earth. Everytime I call, no joke.

The Roosevelt Room in Troy was a great experience from start to finish. I was honestly expecting a standalone building, but it is tucked into a strip mall near HVCC. That said, parking was easy and stress free, which is always a plus. This was our first visit as a party of four, and the service was superb. The attention to detail really stood out and was noticed immediately. Our waitress checked in at the right times, kept drinks filled, and made sure everything came out exactly as expected. Meals are made to order, so substitutions were no issue at all, and it was nice to see gluten free options available. When you walk in, you pass through a curtain and are immediately greeted by a coat attendant who takes your coats, which instantly gives the place an upscale feel. The ambiance is well done, with soft lighting and nice background music. It is on the smaller side and dimly lit, but that is clearly intentional. The menus actually light up, which was a unique and thoughtful touch that fits the atmosphere perfectly. We had reservations and were seated right away. It did not seem necessary on this particular evening, but I would definitely recommend them on a weekend given the size of the space. The food itself was excellent. Everything we ordered was very tasty, and the presentation across the board was impressive. Desserts are prepared by a pastry chef and were just as good as the rest of the meal. It is definitely on the pricey side, but that is to be expected for the level of service and atmosphere. This feels like a special occasion type of place, and in that context, it is worth every penny. We really enjoyed our night and would absolutely come back. There was also a sign mentioning live jazz on Fridays, which sounds like a great added touch. Overall, a very strong 5 stars.

And I thought I would have to give up on my desire to pop back in to The Ruck for a pint. On the way back to my hotel, I decided to just check to see what Dave and crew had on tap. Egads! Seriously folks, this bar is an embarrassment of riches. I only wanted to have one beer, but I left with three. Two I enjoyed on site, Hill Farmstead's Susan and the brewery's Society and Solitude #13. These are heavy hitters, and even just two five ounce pours put me in a place where I felt it would be imprudent to have a third. Fortunately for me, the crowler machine was fully functional, and I was able to grab an oil can of Weldwerks Xtra Xtra Broccolli to go. Beer names are stupid, but they will not dissuade me from drinking something delicious. Sadly, Dave wasn't there, so I didn't get to say hi, or shake his hand, or thank him for his hard work of managing such an epic tap list. Regrettably I rolled in late in the evening and the kitchen had already closed. No wings for me. Not even one of their special deviled eggs... which sounded delicious, btw. Welp, it was a very very good reminder for me to get back to Troy, arrive earlier in the evening, and move The Ruck back up to the top of my list. You Trojans are lucky to have this joint. Go there. Often. And rejoice.

Ice water, coffee and Tea and apple juice all included with other optional drinks available at a small additional charge. Most were $1 or 2. The Food and atmosphere were both excellent. The Dining room, buffet area, and the coffee and drink sections were very clean and tidy throughout our visit. I didn't take enough pictures but there was 3 lines of tables of different salads, sides, noodles, hard boiled eggs, hot items, fried items, desserts, etc. We sat on the deck, overlooking the grounds and the breeze was nice and weather was perfect. Another great visit to Innovo Kitchen I've been to Innovo Kitchen several times over the years and have reviewed them before, and today's visit didn't disappoint either. One thing I really like about Innovo is that they frequently change the menu, so there's always something new to try, and I've never had trouble finding something that sounds good. Tonight I went with the Rigatoni Riggies with tomato vodka sauce and chicken, and it was delicious. The warm bread that came with it was also really tasty. We also tried the Dorito Cool Ranch tater tots, which were delightful. But the real showstopper was the peanut butter mud pie. Soooooo good. Definitely one of those desserts that makes you wish you had ordered two. What really made tonight's visit memorable, though, was our waiter, Matthew. He noticed the funny design on my T-shirt and struck up a conversation about it. We laughed and chatted for a bit, and eventually he mentioned that he's been a waiter for 27 years. It showed. Matthew was high-energy, funny, personable, and attentive without being overbearing. He checked on us several times and seemed to genuinely enjoy what he was doing. Watching him work was like watching someone who has truly mastered his craft. It was a master class in waitership, and it made an already great meal even better. Great food, a fun atmosphere, and an excellent server. Another very enjoyable visit to Innovo Kitchen.

They are always pleasant and attentive. However, the food is not as good as a story. Your "experience" starts by reading the menu and being greeted by relatively high prices - which isn't an issue if the food is stellar (spoiler alert, it's not). I have had multiple dishes here from a roast beef sandwich, burger, chicken Caesar salad, an onion pasta dish, and even a lobster Cobb salad. Every single dish lacks seasoning, culinary character, and is just bland. I want to like it, but they make it very hard. If you go here, maybe just have a drink at the bar and go eat some place else.
