This is an excellent family restaurant where the appetizers are especially memorable, including the scallion pancakes which are nothing like the usual Chinese fare you may be expecting. There is a vegetarian duck salad which is simply amazing; a couple of meat-eating friends swore they must have snuck in some real duck. Don't skip the vegetable dumplings. i've never been a huge fan of thai food. I mean curry is good but otherwise its mostly noodles in a spicy brown sauce. I've had it dozens of times and don't get me wrong, it tastes good, but i was never wow'd by it. That was until i went to Red Basil and they offered Crispy Pork as a meat option for every dish. I don't what this says about me, but basically if you put crispy pork in it, i'm going to love it. If you love crispy pork, go here. It makes every thai dish at least 6x better. read more

We've come here several times and have always enjoyed the food and had good service. You do need to be careful what you choose if you don't like things too spicy because their spicy dishes are rather hot. The Tom Yum soup is very good if you do like spicy food. They have good thai iced tea and other drinks such as limeade. I can't think of any dish I've had there which I didn't like. The waitresses are always nice and attentive. 2nd time we went & food as fantastic as before! Great Thai food at a very reasonable price. If you're afraid of Thai because you've heard it's super spicy, please go and ask them for something tasty but not hot. You can also ask them wait staff to adjust the heat in a dish and they really do because everything is made to order. They are very accommodating but also leave you alone when you want peace but are there immediately if it looks like you need help. A+ dishes: grilled chicken green curry (with avocado slices, carrots & potatoes; green massamam chicken curry (also tofu); all of the dips that come with the appetizers esp the vinegary clear dip with diced cucumber; yum yum noodles are to die for says Nikki (son's girlfriend); Singapore noodles with veggies; major quantities of high quality vegan and vegetarian offerings including vegetarian duck!; hubby loved the Ocean Cry - it was huge amount of very fresh seafood, delicious creamy green curry sauce; son had Singapore noodles with veg and he loved it. We've had the appetizer platter, to see which app we want to get, but ended up getting the platter again, the spring rolls, satay and fish cakes are delicious. BYOB, which I love; they bring buckets of ice. The staff is very nice and professional and accommodating. Everything is super fresh, tasty and cooked to order by a think a Thai grandma! Sticky rice with mango is sublime. So is the pumpkin pudding, which is really like a custard with pieces of pumpkin and spices. Really nice place, the decor is a little dated (red strings in door), dark lighting and chairs a bit tired, but the cost is very good for such high quality food. Let me start off by saying I've never revisited any restaurant (except maybe a lunch spot near my workplace) as many times as I have here. To give you an idea, my girlfriend/fiancee/now wife who is expecting our first and I call this "our spot". We've been here hundreds of times over the past 5 years. I've had just about everything on the menu (except the spicy items, I'm not a fan of spicy food) and I never had a bad meal. We have brought our family, friends and neighbors here (or brought their food there) and they all agree that the food is excellent. We used them to cater a party and received several positive remarks on the Thai dishes. In fact, one friend joined us for dinner one night and bought an entire catering sized tray of pad-see-ew to go! Keep in mind, Rutherford is a dry town so if you want a glass of wine with your meal, be sure to bring your own bottle or stop by one of the many wine/liquor stores along Park Ave on the way. Interestingly enough, we found this place when we first moved into the area and had a craving for Thai (I used to get excellent Thai takeout from a neighborhood place in downtown Manhattan back when I lived in the city). I wish I could give this place more than 3 stars but. I just can't. Although the food is amazing and it is one of my favorite Thai places, the service is just too slow. My family and I usually go there on a Saturday night before the rush comes in, 6pm to be exact and we wont leave until 9pm. It's ridiculous. So if you are in a rush I would say, don't go to this place BUT if you have the time and don't mind having a very long Thai dinner, this is the place to go. Had a gathering here right after my graduation. It's a quaint little spot that was able to accommodate my party of 10. it was close enough to the Izod center for my party to get there easily but it wasn't packed with recent grads. It was nice, the food was really good (all my guests agreed :) and the price point was reasonable. The garlic duck is very tasty and I recommend trying the aloe juice; it's quite refreshing! Service has really gone downhill. Once we were there almost 2 hours before all our food came out. We were told that two people had called out so the kitchen was short staffed. After that experience it took us a long time to come back. On our next visit, the first thing I asked was about their staffing in the kitchen that day. This is my 2nd experience with Thai food and I'm so happy to say that I am now a fan. I had Pad Thai with shrimp, and it was delicious. Now I don't have much to base my review off of since my first go at Thai food wasn't nearly as enjoyable, but my brother, who's frequented many Thai restaurants, agreed that the food was good. We also had Sui Mai and coconut curry soup for appetizers, both really good. For dessert we had their pumpkin custard and that was also yummy. The food was good but nothing special that would make me say you HAVE to try this...The mussel app is small & fishy, but had a good, spicy broth (7 large shells in total- only good for one person, as most of the apps were). We both tried a noodle dish- nothing special about it (glass noodle pad thai & spicy noodle- which wasn't spicy). We both ordered a soup after the entree because we were not full (hot & sour and a coconut based- both were very good) & shared the fried tofu app- it was light and airy. They should tell you that the apps are NOT made for sharing because we were a little embarrassed that we skipped dessert to order more starters. I got the Pad Thai here because that's really the only thing I get at Thai places. It was really good I must admit. Went with my friends about a month ago randomly. The veggie/tofu basil fried rice had nice flavor that was enhanced by the chili sauce served on the side. The real winner was the curry puffs. These were the best curry puffs I have ever had. Unfortunately this place has changed tremendously. This used to be my go to thai restaurant. Today my mother and I went for the lunch special and specified to the waitress (who was laying down in the booth when we arrived, and walked away from us to set tables while we were talking to her) "please NO spicy." Appetizers arrive the spring rolls -- SPICY, the chicken dumplings -- SPICY. When we got out meal, it was the same dish. She got our order wrong and you guessed it SPICY! When I told her this wasn't what we asked for she huffed and rolled her eyes as she took our dishes. I'm never one to send a dish back for fear of possible tampering, but the meal was so spicy that my mother and I both lost feeling in our lips and couldn't enjoy our meals.
