The lunch special is a great deal! The food tasted fresh and was hot. The service was very nice and welcoming. The restaurant looks clean as well. Truly enjoyed the food here and will definitely be back again and recommend to friends and family. read more

I had the fried scallops and shrimp fried rice. It was okay -- not bad, but nothing that really stood out. The scallops and the rice could've used more flavor. Overall, a decent meal, just not something I'd rush back for.The service was great. read more

Big fan of their boneless rib combo and their chicken dishes. Nice portions, good quality and not oily. Solid take out chinese but note they only accept cash. Not really a sit down restaurant but they do have a few tables. Parking can sometimes be an issue. read more

I was not happy with the texture of the general tso's chicken. The lo mein was a bit greasy and the steamed pork dumplings were terrible. The dough was so thick and gummy. Not going to chance trying it a second time- I am not sure why others wrote this was the best Chinese food in the area. read more

Very disappointed. Gave me chicken wings that was very small. Never have I ran into Chinese restaurant that gave this small chicken. Now I'm left with eating rice only. Won't be going back again. read more

Food was good egg rolls hittin! I can't even find my pic of them lol my bad... Chicken and broccoli was delicious! Fried rice was different.. no veggies no egg .. hmm that's strange... the chicken inside of it was weird so I picked it out. All in all I might return and get white rice. Customer service was good. Its not an eat in spot so be prepared to get food to go! read more

This is a great Chinese restaurant, we ordered for pickup and the guy working behind the counter was super friendly. Especially in the middle of all this chaos, it's nice to have good service! The food was very tradition and was pretty good. I just got a small mixed veggies since I wasn't too hungry but my boyfriend went to town. He loves spare ribs with the bone in and he enjoyed these very much. The sweet and sour chicken was good too, they gave a good amount of sauce on the side. The dumplings were really good. Super chewy but still firm enough to hold themselves together. This is just overall a great small restaurant to order from. They were only doing pick up when we called. Not sure if they offer delivery, I would call first to find out. read more

The minuses: they don't deliver, and they're cash-only. This combination, which I find rare for Chinese food places in my area, lead me to believe that this establishment surely must survive because it must have among the best Chinese food in the area. The pluses: very friendly and genuinely likeable service, and accurate to your order. Long hours. The in between: the food was good, but honestly not exceptional enough to draw me back when I have to make sure that I have cash with me, and if I happen to not already be out and about, drag myself out to pick it up instead of have it delivered to me. Bottom line: Would you regret getting food from here? Absolutely not. Is it worth the hassle of not having delivery available, nor accepting credit cards? Probably not. Still I wish them the best. read more

Hands down best value Chinese takeout in the neighborhood. The place has been therefore forever and owner is nice.

For people saying that parking is tricky, there is a tiny parking lot next to the big pizza restaurant and capri liquor store on the same block. It's less than minute walk. Very easy if you can't find street parking. read more

I lived in Jersey for over 20 years and have tried every Chinese restaurant in every town around these parts, None maker everything perfect but I found that they all have one, two dishes better any anyone else. And for the Chef it's their Beef and Broccoli. The beef comes in large but thinly slice pieces. The Broccoli is fresh cut and firm and not mushy from being prepped 12 hours earlier. The garlic and ginger sauce is where the magic really happens, a dash of soy sauce, sugar, and a secret homemade spice powder, there will get them laughing at you if you ask what's in it. I get plain white rice with it because it justs swallows up the sauce as I scoop it up. Just thinking or writing about it turns me into Pavlov's dog, salivating as I write this review. read more

Came here to try some NJ hole in the wall Chinese food on our last night before returning to LA. I ordered the chicken chow mein combo and fiancé ordered General Tso chicken combo. The combos come with fried rice and an egg roll and they give you a free soda with purchase. When we got home I opened my order and all I saw was chicken and onions. We called back to ask what this was and where was the noodles??? The owner responded that on the east coast, chicken chow mein is chicken and celery and doesn't come with noodles, it only comes with noodles on the west coast. I am not sure if this is true or not about the east coast, but I am chinese and "mein" literally means noodles in Chinese. He didn't offer to replace this with their lo mein or something else I actually wanted, which they would have done on the west coast, so sadly this was thrown out. Definitely not trying to bring down my asian restaurants in NJ, but just beware when ordering their chow mein. read more

The thing you have to understand about Chef Chen, is that he is really Master... Chef Chen. I have tried his chicken lo mein, the general Tso's chicken combo, the fried dumplings, trust me on this...Chef Chen does not cut corners like those hole in the wall shops you've probably been to. The quality of the General Tso's chicken, matches the quality of the rice, matches the egg roll, matches the quality of the dumplings, matches the quality of the lo mein. It's just well orchestrated food. Simple. read more

The egg roll was edible, and only b/c I was very hungry. The General Tso chicken chicken was overcooked and the sauce tasted burnt. The rice...how can a Chinese restaurant mess up rice? Every grain was separate; looked and tasted like Uncle Ben's rice. I read all of the great reviews. What a disappointment. Also, the place is dirty and needs a cleaning and decor refresh. Really gross. You let me down, Yelpers. Also, they don't take debit or credit, which doesn't matter to me, but it might to you. Maybe the school kids keep this place in business? IDK. Awful. read more

Other than the dirty windows and well worn lobby area, this is my favorite Chinese take-out. Once you become familiar with their food, the ambiance won't matter. Been going there for years and I will continue to. read more

Best Chinese food in town, or in the area. Have been going here since I was a kid and probably forever will continue to come here.

My first time to try. Ordered chicken Mei fun and it's delicious. Not sure about the negative reviews but food was good.

I am so happy that I discovered Chef Chan because it is quickly becoming one of my favorite restaurants in the area. They are a hole in a wall, but serve up delicious take out Chinese. I have only been here twice, but both times, I have been happy with my food. They are cash only, so keep that in mind before arriving and they sometimes don't have parking readily available - they are located on a pretty busy street, there are a few restaurants in the area. But don't let those two things stop you from ordering! The food is worth it. Their portions are also very generous. I recommend getting their sweet and sour chicken (not oily which is such a plus), beef lo mein (the beef is so flavorful) and sesame chicken. Another great small, family owned business that should be supported :) read more

I tried them twice and the 2nd time was worst than the first. I don't understand how they have such a high rating. The General Tso's Chicken I ordered had an unpleasant fishy taste to it and the fried rice was hard. The egg roll that came with my meal was also pretty bad. I do not recommend this place at all. read more

Absolutely some of the best Chinese food I have ever had. The place is super clean inside and the service is outstanding. Called ahead and took about 10 minutes to have my order ready. All my food was still hot, wrapped very nice. There are such nice people inside working there. Gimme them a try. You will not be disappointed read more

Ordering from here was the best decision. The portions are huge and delicious! When I picked up my order it was apparent they put a lot of pride in serving their food and giving great customer service. Their pan fried dumplings are double the size of any other Chinese restaurant in the area, and they will stuff every container full of yummy food! This is our new go-to Chinese restaurant. Thank you! read more

The flavors just weren't very good. The rice was terrible. The hot and sour soup had ground beef in it! Awful

Yo this place should be painted in pure gold! Home made iced tea so Soothing it's like listening to ocean sounds. You can have a free can of coke if you earned the respect of the establishment. Some of the best Chinese food I've ever had . Pick up only! if you want delivery call a other joint, cause they aren't doing it sweetheart. Foods incredible! their portions are more then fair. The family run business is full of smiles and kindness. The super fresh and delicious meals every time are excellent. The real star of the dishes is always the crisp vegetables. Nothing is drowned in thick sauce like other places. Everything is nice and balanced. The best !!! read more

I had asked for suggestions on Facebook for a close and awesome Chinese place and was suggested to try chef Chan's by multiple people. We listened and tried it. This place is terrible. We ordered several different combination platters and every single one of them was absolutely disgusting. We will never order from this place again. read more

If I could give this place zero stars I would. Food was greasy, boneless ribs were all fat. Beef and broccoli was not edible. Beef had a strange taste. $44 in the trash. I cannot for the life of me figure out why this place has a high rating. It was my first time trying it and my last. read more

I asked for extra BBQ sauce on my dry boneless spare ribs but they looked at me like I was an alien. They don't do that they said. They cook it with the bbq on it but it still comes out dry. I ate it because I paid for it and I hate to throw food away. read more

I tried this place because of the good reviews. Don't believe them, this place is just ok. Had hot and sour soup - fried dumplings - dae chien chicken. Soup was alright not great, dumplings were large but doughy and not fried enough. The chicken was just basically chicken and broccoli with some brown sauce. I asked for spicy and of course it wasn't. The pluses are that they are not expensive and do give you large portions. I may give them another try with something else and they are better than the other crap Chinese places in the area, but they are not they great don't buy the hype. Go to Hunan Taste in Montclair for the real stuff. read more

More or less a pretty good standard Chinese takeout joint. Its located in a relatively busy area of Rutherford. Parking is a bit hard to come by. I generally park on the side streets, when I drop by for takeout. This place has really good chicken with garlic sauce, one of my favorite foods for Chinese takeout. The garlic sauce is balanced well with the chicken and vegetables. It doesn't have much of a greasy aftertaste to it, that you find at other Chinese takeouts. I've also tried the general tso's chicken and kung pao chicken. Both were just OK. The prices here are pretty cheap, especially the lunch specials. The quality is decent and is comparable to most other Chinese takeout places. read more

I must admit that after my previous review I have returned to this establishment for certain things. Their boneless spare ribs are the best available locally as is the wonton soup. And my son loves the place (no accounting for teenage tastes). We wind up ordering form this an another local place to make up a dinner for all of us. Still not a fan of their rice or egg rolls and there is something about the taste of their lo mein I don't like. read more

This is a horrendous place. I can't believe the high rating on this restaurant. The owner is rude and the food is mediocre at best. Don't be confused by the pound of food they give you. it's not worth the little money they charge. I had to throw it out. I MISS ASIAN GRILL!! read more

Even though Chef Chsb is 20 mins away we made the drive after a snowstorm because it's hands down the best chinese in the area. The general tsos is nice and crispy and the spare ribs are awesome. Also they usually offer a free can of soda or two with take out. Will never stop going here! read more
