Met my daughter's new BF for the first time here today. Sharon is a treasure. My 4-1/2 year d grandson is quite a savvy diner. When he said he wanted chocolate chip pancakes with chocolate sauce and hot chocolate, Sharon picked up the cues from mama and me. "Oh! I'm sorry! We're all out of chocolate today ". Grandson took it in stride and was happy to share the healthier options with the adults. Good food, great service. All of our party of five would happily return. I got the corned beef hash, which is always a crapshoot. More often than not, I've been stuck with Alpo topped with undercooked eggs. This hash wasn't the best I've had, but probably the second best. The corned beef was deli-style - meaning sliced thin. However, there was no fat bombs or gristle and it wasn't overly salted. And the corned beef was plentiful. I'm not sure how they voodoo their potatoes, but they were fluffy and crisp. And the bell pepper confetti and onions were caramelized to perfection, complimentary and not overwhelming. As I worked my way through my brunch, I kept thinking this is the cleanest, least greasy corned beef hash I've ever had. Okay, my best experience with hash included chunks of fatted corned beef hash with deliciously butter fried potatoes might have been tastier, but this was the tastiest 'healthier' alternative I've ever had. My grandson snapped up my grapes and cantaloupe side, the whites from my lovely hash-topper braised eggs, shared the crab cake Benny with his auntie and had some pancakes bites topped with cinnamon apples. The couple at the adjacent table overhead our conversation and we learned they were from the same Quad Cities area as the BF. They commented that they were 'cracking up' by my grandson's enthusiasm, even as we gently implored him to use his 'indoor voice'. I have dined at the Farmington restaurant as well. That pork chop lettuce Asian noodle thing is to die for. Even the leftovers were delicious. And the blackberry biscuits? My 91-year old mom absolutely swooned over them when I brought her some takeout. Just a lovely Sunday noon with my girls, grandson, the new BF, fabulous service and good food. read more

Headed here with a group of coworkers. Nothing too fancy, but it's a standard American breakfast place. This place has a ton of great reviews, but you definitely wouldn't guess that based on the outside appearance. The food is pretty average and there's something for everyone here, but with the other options available in the area, it's definitely not a 'need to visit' spot. Most of the crowd that's here at brunch/ lunch was part of the senior citizen crowd, so being a group of millenial young professionals, we were definitely the odd ones out. Keto/ Low Carb folks: there are certainly options here, as with most breakfast places, but save your time and money, go to a more interesting spot for breakfast/ brunch. read more

We love this place and need to come more often because no matter what you're craving for breakfast they have SOOOO many choices. Service is great and the environment is also clean and pleasant. They even have signs on the tables saying "no camping out please" that's server lingo for "come, eat, leave" lol and I get it because people love to sit down and talk long after their meal especially after breakfast. Very cozy atmosphere with delicious food. Probably my favorite breakfast place in Metro Detroit. The service here is always very friendly and I really enjoy the atmosphere. Lots of natural light and I believe they have freshly cut flowers on each of their tables. In terms of food, they have a variety of breakfast to lunch options but what I particularly enjoy is their selection of healthy foods. I think the problem with Recipes is that they don't use a griddle. While that may be a plus for some folk, I thought the food lacked flavor generally. However, this was the most recent edition of FBT with Jeffrey and Pinecone. Recipes is located just south of the Big Beav on Crooks. It's a blue little building with a yellow marquee. It doesn't appear to be anything special and if you blink you might miss it. In side the interior is bright. There are fresh flowers on the tables and white tablecloths on the tables covered with at sheet of white paper. Recipes is mostly a breakfast place with several pages of breakfast foods including frittata, omelette, mixers and skillets. Recipes has the normal choices of eggs, pancakes and the Big 3 breakfast meats (bacon, sausage, ham). The breakfasts feature interesting items such as water chestnuts, crab, cream cheese and other unusual toppings. There are also some sandwich and salad options for lunch. Strangely, the menu features assorted ethnic cuisine like pho and pad thai and chicken scaloppini. It's a strange assortment of food on the menu and on the specials list. I chose this combo plate. I don't think that they have a griddle for these reasons. First, the waitress said the eggs usually are basted. Second, the "spuds" as they call them are little fried cubes, not like american fries or hash browns, but perfectly fried little cubes. Third, my pancakes didn't have the richness or the crispy outside of pancakes cooked on a greasy griddle. I applaud Recipes for keeping the food healthy and not mixing things together. However, I noticed the food just lacked a lot of flavor. It wasn't bad, but it just didn't have the more subtle, complex, greasy undertones of a coney island restaurant. I think they might do this to appeal to an older clientele. I swear we were a good 30 years younger than the other 20 women in the place. Our waitress was nice and was excellent. The food was hot and fresh. The atmosphere was calming. The coffee was very good but $2 for a bottomless cup. Overall, I hate to give Recipes 3 Stars but it was just "A-Ok" as prompted above. All things considered, I'm not going to run back out to Troy for breakfast here. I appreciate everything the restaurant was doing and there was nothing wrong with the restaurant. My wife and I went to Recipes for brunch today. Frittatas, omelets, hashes and other egg-centric dishes comprise the bulk of the menu. Within this theme are lots of stylistic choice (meat and ovo-veggie, traditional and nouveau). There is also a small selection of pancakes, French toast and other breakfast foods. I got the City Slicker omelet (egg whites, spinach, red onion, cheese, avocado). It was a healthy meal, moderately tasty without being too rich. My wife got a unique take on sticky buns: two English muffins with cinnamon butter covered with sliced, toasted almonds and accompanied by cooked apples with cinnamon and sugar. It was tasty without being cloying. The room was bigger than the storefront implied but was not huge. It was completely full (with a line) and the sounds of many conversations bounced around. The menu's somewhat upscale approach and the crowd's well-practiced sophistication give Recipes a Farmington / Birmingham / Bloomfield vibe. This is not a comfortable breakfast place like The Pantry in Sterling Heights. In fact, the tables have "No Camping" (or, as my wife called them, "eat and get out") signs. While I understand that the size of the room and the popularity of the restaurant would result in very long lines if parties hung around, I don't like the "in your face" solution that Recipes has chosen. I have to say, after seeing many of the recommendations here I have to concur with a great deal of them. The food was very very good, no it's not five stare, but it is IMHO really affordable and worthy of four. The only negative I would say is that service was a little slow - friendly - but slow. I had the Lox Benny which was very very good, in the salmon was extremely fresh. My wife had the Recipes Benedict, which other than the fact that she didn't realize it had tomato on it, she found extremely tasty. Even the coffee was tasty. If definitely recommend for brunch, just get there early, especially if your have we're going for in your group. read more

We headed over for a late breakfast around 10am. I thought the crowd would be lighter but was reminded that it was Good Friday. Oops. My mom got there 10 minutes before us and secured a big table in front- we had a party of 6. The menu had plenty of choices. The kids were thrilled with Mickey Mouse pancakes, husband said the coffee was quite good and the rye toast was delicious. Eggs were made exactly how they were ordered, spuds were really tasty and my cousin said the California Roll omelette was better than she expected and would happily order it again. Service was good. No complaints. It was the first time we had been there and would have no trouble visiting again next time we are in town. Tip- It is a small place so there may be a wait. The buttermilk out the box are moister than theirs. Quaint little breakfast place with not that much to it. The menu is pretty extensive and I really wanted to try to the eggs benedict, but went for the skillet instead. The skillet is made of potatoes, whatever vegetables or meat is defined by that skillet name, and two eggs any style. I had skillet with chicken, but I tasted very little chicken and it was mainly potatoes. I like the idea though. The service was good and they came around with coffee often. I had breakfast here the other day on the recommendation of my hotel concierge and it was alright. I wasn't super hungry so I had a basic breakfast, I think it was called 'Farmer's Choice'. They did have other interesting items on the menu like "California Roll Omelette' which I will try next time I go to Troy. The decor was cute. They serve super-affordable breakfasts but dress up the table with white linens and a fake red flower. In terms of service, our order was taken within a few minutes and our food arrived quickly but when it came time to ask for the bill nobody was in sight. Located in the "business district" of Troy, this place is very crowded during lunch time so if you're flexible, come before 11:30 or after 12:30. Classy place but parking is a little disorganized and the restaurant seems tiny/cramped when entering an adjacent parking space. Location has a lot of traffic as there are a lot of companies right around the corner. Upon entering, it looks bigger than before. Lots of people and lots of tables (all white decor). It seemed like a really popular place and for good reason. The food was great and you have a huge menu to choose from. I typically order skillets when I first try out a breakfast place and here was no different. Ordered a Straggler which has diced ham, mushrooms, tomatoes, and onions settled on top of spuds (potatoes), topped with cheddar jack cheese and two eggs ($8). Skillets are a little pricey here but if you look at their menu, you'll notice a lot of times are in the $4-5 price range. Like most places, you can pick your type of toast, how you want your eggs, substitute, and remove items. Service is pretty standard and food can take a while depending on the time you get there. It was very tasty and filling and I was able to finish most of it. Apart from that, I had reunited with a good friend of mine so it made the experience better though I must admit I spent more time catching up than stuffing my face. Skillets are one of my favorite breakfast items so I look forward to trying out some of their other items in subsequent trips! read more

I've been coming here since I was 7 and by far my favorite thing has always been the strawberry cheesecake French toast and I would always come on the weekends to get it it has been a little over a year since I've been here but I don't know if they got a new chef or inflation or what's going on because they changed the recipe and it's just not good anymore and then on top of it our server was trying to rush us out the door and hadn't came back to check on us once once he had dropped off the food over all the only reason I gave it two stars is because it was always my favorite place to get breakfast and now I don't see much of a point in coming back read more

If you need a good breakfast/brunch spot this would be a good choice! My mom and I came here for Mother's Day and I was a little nervous about the wait. We had gone to two other places that were fails and were ready to eat. Although there was a lot of people eating and waiting when we arrived they were very quick - our wait for a party of 2 was about 20 minutes. My mom ordered their BLT Benedict special. She is super picky about her bacon being crisp and they got that part right although she said it tasted more like bacon bits. Their sausage is not good at all. I ordered the Recipes Combo with the pancake and a side of avocado. My eggs were perfectly cooked (over medium). My avocado was slightly brown. What I loved is I didn't even need to request my potatoes to be extra crispy and they were! The pancake was amazing as well - fluffy and buttery. I'm giving it 4 stars only because of the service. I don't think our server said one word to us the whole time we were there. Our food was timely and coffee/water was refilled repeatedly but she wrote her name on the table and that was about it. We went there for Easter breakfast and came out agreeing never to step foot inside again. Their cappuccino was a piece of crap and added to that their server didn't know the basic decency of serving the drink correctly - it came with the coffee dripping all over the side of the mug and on the plate. When asked for a change of plate and cup... response was that " it was good when it came out and some spilled on the way ... do you really want a new plate??" - how the hell am I supposed to drink from a dripping mug? It didn't stop there - she never introduced her name to us and we asked another server to call for her and that server without realizing that perhaps their own staff might not mentioned their name teaches us how to call out for servers and how we need to use names.... freaking god!!! The apple juice ordered for my 8 yr old arrives at the fag end of the order in a to go cup with no apologies in between for the delay or a check for more water or anything. Came here for a quick breakfast and enjoyed their food and coffee. The restaurant is small but super cute. The coffee was hot and our server Nora made sure it was always hot and full, very attentive. I didn't have to ask for ketchup, jam or hot sauce she brought everything out before the food came I liked that I didn't have to ask. I ordered one of their omelette and my friend got eggs Benedict and both were super delicious. It was a quick meal but I felt well taken care of. Overall very nice experience will be back for sure. How is this place rated so high? First off, there was nothing spectacular about this location at all. It needs a little TLC in my opinion and some updating. The service is average as it seems like most of its customers are regulars. They have a sign at the table basically asking you to leave as soon as your done eating. The food is just average. I ordered corned beef and hash and was seriously disappointed. Had no flavor what so ever. I wouldn't suggest this place unless you were in the area. I couldn't get over the sign on the table, I was turned off the second I sat down. As a restaurant you should be welcoming people with open arms. Horrible read more

I couldn't even get through the very thick heaps of cheese to find my other skillet ingredients. I was so bummed because I love skillets but with the eggs being the only thing I could really eat, I am definitely leaving extremely unsatisfied. I would give this 0 stars if I could. My sisters and I went to the Troy location for lunch. My sister ordered her meal with fruit instead of Potatoes. The server mistakenly brought her meal with the potatoes. We let her know she was supposed to get the fruit. The server said that if she ordered the fruit she would have to pay for it. After some discussion she agreed to bring the fruit for the agreed upon $1 up charge. After she brought the fruit she told my sister that she would have to give the potatoes back. She then proceeded to take the potatoes off my sister's plate! When we spoke to the manager who was very rude she said that the waitress was sweet and didn't mean anything by removing the potatoes. In the midst of strip-mall central, it's nice to find a place that's relatively unique and cozy like Recipes. The atmosphere is pleasant in a "mom-sweater" kind of way. Know what I mean? A mom sweater is a sweater that's plenty comfy, probably looks "acceptable," but isn't exactly the most fashionable thing in your wardrobe. You keep wearing it because it's just so darn comfortable, but you know it was probably designed with someone a good 10-20 years older than you in mind. If you think of Recipes as a "mom sweater" of restaurants, you'll get my drift. The place is comfortable enough -- particularly because of very sweet and helpful staff. The food is fairly good -- better than a standard coney breakfast. I liked the pepper pot frittata quite well. It and its accompanying potatoes were better than what I could make at home. However, they still weren't to level to really wow me and convince me to return. It does seem like a good place for families, though, including multi-generational get-togethers. Quite a few of the patrons were probably in that new-grandparents-but-not-the-Denny's-crowd demo. If looking for a decent breakfast or brunch in this area, this could be a fit. However, it isn't a place I'd consider worthy of a long drive/journey. read more
