This place is amazing. The staff is so genuine and helpful. My friend took me here for my birthday and it blew my mind. We had the guacamole and it was delicious. Attended a birthday brunch recently on a Sunday and was pleasantly surprised that the food and ambiance met and surpassed my expectations. Been here twice...This place is great for small adult groups or dates. Not that great for kids...just because the place is not that big and they only have glass cups so I had to stay on top of my lil one to make sure he doesn't break anything. Parking is also hard to come by the the Valet service is fast, friendly, and only a few bucks. The host, owner (or co-owner), and waiters were stupendous on both my visits. Loved the plantain chips with fresh guac and the churrasco. My ropa vieja was ok, even though I saw a lot of reviews of people that loved it...The BYOB is a plus but I'm only giving 4 stars because of the prices. I had the pleasure of dining at Rebecca's last night with 3 friends... I had dined at Rebecca's a few years ago and I was very happy to find that the food was just as good as I had remembered!! We started out with the Guacamole & the thinly sliced plantain chips!! Delicious! When it was time to decide on our meals - We opted to take advantage of their weekday Prefixe Menu (3 Courses for $20.00; only certain nights of the week... Thursday being one of them.. YAY for us) For my 1st course I went with the Jerk Chicken Skewers - Cooked to perfection, tender and spicy and paired with a delicious dipping sauce. Second I had the Grilled Tilapia cooked with a Red Pepper Rub--this came with a choice of three sides and I went for the coconut mashed yams (WOOHOO! GREAT CHOICE!!! These yams were exceptional...) The Tilapia was a large portion, very tasty and definitely on the healthy/light side. Then it was time for dessert! At this point we ordered different ones so we could all sample each. We had the Flan - "WOW!!" is all I can say ... Simply terrific... Great consistency and perfect on the sweetness. We had the Dulce De Leche & cheese filled empanadas served with a generous amount of creamy Vanilla Gelato- Another mouthwatering choice!! Lastly on the recommendation of the owner we went for the Key Lime Pie... AGAIN- Delicious! NOT too heavy and the pie crust was just perfect! All in all it was a wonderful dining experience and felt the prices were EXTREMELY reasonable. Rebecca's is a BYO which is always nice!!! We were able to get a table at Rebecca's on a Thursday night at 7 PM with no reservations! This BYO gem is even more cozy and intimate inside than I thought. We ordered the skirt steak and coconut shrimp and both dishes were truly AMAZING. They were also accommodating with our picky eating requests - no butter, no onion in the salads, etc. and were sweet about the whole thing. I can definitely see why this is a neighborhood favorite. The restaurant manager (forgot her name - was it Rebecca?) introduced herself to us as we were leaving and she was such a sweetie. Those gestures really speak volumes, and overall, I can tell how proud and passionate they are about their business and the delicious food they serve! I like this place. I've gone a few times but the last time I went I was disappointed. The food is great I have no complaints ,I even love there mashed sweet potato with coconut. At the end of the meal I ordered a cafe con leche. For those of you who do not know what a cafe con leche, it is steamed milk with espresso. I was looking forward to my Cuban cafe con leche and I see the waiter making it. Right before he grabs the cafe con leche I see someone who I believe is the manager tell him something and the waiter did not serve me the cafe con leche. He ended up giving me a cup of black coffee with cold cream on the side. I looked at the waiter and asked him what happened to my cafe con leche and he looked at me like he had no real answer. I had the ropa vieja and wasn't impressed (it tasted like very fatty poorly trimmed beef), bf had churrasco which was incredible. We shared a salad for app, it was good. Presentation was beautiful of all items. What will keep me from returning to this establishment is the service. I believe the bread basket should be brought out ASAP, ours didn't come until the app arrived. No one checked on us and asked how the food was, if we needed anything the whole time. Service took over two hours. I had the prix fixe and my friends had just two appetizers. There were significant delays, no explanations and when my entree did finally arrive (due to some mix ups in the kitchen) it was not edible. They did offer to substitute it, but by then we'd had to ask about the status of my mean twice and my friend's salad once and I did not want to wait another half-hour. My friend did not finish her food because it was unsatisfactory and no one once asked about it. Service was terrible, but that's to be expected if teenagers are the ones serving your food. I asked for a price reduction because of the quality of the entree and was offered 5 dollars off which I rejected as an insult. I had to get the dessert to go because we'd been there for far too long. They could not give me my coffee to go for some reason or another. While I am not a persnickety diner, this was above and beyond acceptable. I do not think in all my years of dining out I've ever asked for a price reduction for a meal, their attempts to ameliorate the situation were completely unsatisfactory. We ordered guacamole and plantain chips and I was really expecting a lot because the guacamole was so good-however, I was pretty disappointed by the main courses. For the price you pay for the entrees which is more like $$$, you expect something a lot better. I'd rather go down the street to other restaurants that are the same price but have better quality food. The back patio we requested was absolutely stunning and we could not decide which was better the food or the service! The entire wait staff was so patient with us and very accommodating for a group of 23 people! I really have to mention Victoria (Vicky) one of our waitresses because she was PHENOMENAL. She was very attentive, sweet and genuine. She made sure we had everything we needed and provided a great dinning experience. We came here to celebrate my parent's anniversary & I am so glad I did!! The service was great, very attentive & polite staff. The food was excellent!! As a Cuban who grew up eating Cuban food, I am very picky when I eat Cuban food in a restaurant and I can say I have no complaints. I am blessed since my mom is an excellent cook and I can say the pork I had is just like my mom's, very moist and seasoned perfectly, reminded me of Christmas Eve. The ropa vieja, churrasco, chorizo, arroz moro, croquetas & empanadas we also had were just as good. They brought out a dessert for my parents with a candle & Feliz Aniversario written on it. I would have been happy with just the dessert for them so the extra touches were appreciated. For dessert I had the flan with coconut and it was amazing. My favorite go to Cuban restaurant, that I went to for years, closed and I was lost because it was my go to place but thankfully, I found a replacement. I will give a four star for it's atmosphere it's a cozy, comfortable little place nice to go and have a nice meal with friends, to go on a date, however the food was average and overpriced. I had the Ropa Viega and it was tasty but to tough. The beef was over cooked. A friend of mine had the jerk chicken and that wasn't as tasty as it should of been. Very average food. I made reservations for four people with a note stating it was a special occasion (Anniversary). We were seated at a tiny table right by the bathroom. The place looked nothing like the pics we saw online, as the only view was the front door and bathroom. Our request to move to the brighter side of the restaurant was declined. However, the host did begrudgingly move us to a table right by the Exit when we told him we did not want to sit next to the bathroom. We tried ordering the Sangrias listed on their menu, but the waiter said they don't serve alcohol as it's BYOB. I did not see this indicated on their website and was greatly disappointed, as this was a special occasion. We would have left to find another place if we knew the area better. The shrimp and empanada appetizers were very bland to say the least. I ordered the red snapper and it was so hard and overcooked I had to send it back. My order was replaced with the salmon dish, which came with a side of fruit. When I bit into the fruit it was spoiled and I had to spit it out. The service was also slow, as we spent nearly three hours at the table even though the limit was 90 mins. This was a very bad experience! read more

But what really stood out to me was the service. We had a table of 9 people and it took soooooo long to ask the waitress for anything. My guests and I waited about 45 minutes each time to get a refill of water (after asking several times). It wasn't necessarily a bad dining experience by any means, but with all the amazing Cuban restaurants nearby in Hoboken (La Isla, Zafra), I jusr wouldn't come back here. read more

I went to this restaurant tonight with a girlfriend of mine We have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while as we both LOVE cuban food, it's local and it got decent reviews. The place was VERY small and the food was ok. I have had the same dish I ordered in other places that tasted better and was much less expensive. We happened to be using a groupon for this dinner. The groupon included one appetizer, 2 entrees and 1 dessert, each with a maximum price (for example, the entree is good for up to $28). According to the offer, we were able to order off of the regular menu as long as we stayed within the offer's values. We were not given the opportunity to order off of the regular menu but rather off of a special menu they put together for groupon patrons. This menu was very limited and did not include entrees which were at the $28 value. We did question this but they stood strong that the menu we could order from was only the groupon menu. The whole experience left a very bad taste in my mouth. Basically, I am only giving this restaurant 1 star because I feel that they misrepresented themselves in this offer. It's too bad because the servers were very pleasant and the food was not bad (albeit, not out of this world). Because of this experience, I would not patronize this restaurant again. read more

The only real plus about this place is that the food was very tasty. They don't serve drinks so you can bring your own (BYOD), which we did not know so we were unable to have a cocktail. The ambiance is strange; sort of dark and gloomy. It's very quiet; I felt like I had to whisper across the table. Our waitress was very forgetful, she messed up our order, for got my appetizer and took a long time to fill up our water. We were served by several different people although the kitchen may be short-staffed because the food took a long time to arrive. I was disappointed and more so because of the price it was definitely overpriced. I went to the city prior to coming to this place. It was a three month wait for this restaurant. I had appetizers salad great entrées. Too dirty martinis. And our portion of the bill was 170 including tip. Now I won't mention the name of the restaurant because this is not a review for them.
