It doesn't get more Texas than a great big HOWDY Y'ALL.

Good afternoon Yelpsters. Hope you're enjoying the rain as much as my yard is. I think I saw it smiling. Free water is always the best kind. So today, I wanted brunch. I usually trust my instinct. In the age of technology, those instincts are supplimented by an App, and thousands of thousands of great people like you. Yes you. . A review of Real Texas Cafe was highlighted this morning, so ever the lover of local mom and pop businesses, I scrubbed up to come chow down. I even put my stretchy joggers on just in case. I missed the rush. I figured theyclose at 2:30, come about 1:00 because the working ladies and gent have to be back at work. Lighter foot traffic means an unrushed, unstressed prepared brunch. Chefs/cooks don't need to be overwhelmed all the time. So I never show up last half hour of service, or at rush hour. The last picture tells the story. This is a family owned, family operated restaurant, not just in function, but in feel, in experience. It has an honest feel as if they truly want you to feel fed, and at home. No corporate vibe here. The kids are waiting and bussing tables, cashing you out, smiles galore. The meal? Griddlecakes, thick, but super light, fluffy, golden brown with that perfect buttery crisp edge. Just after Easter, both Jesus and these griddlecakes rose up. One saves my soul, the other, my appetite. God would laugh at that one so it's cool for you too. I asked for the sliced potatoes with crispy-crispy fried onions. Never in my 45 years of cooking have I achieved this result. The potatoes are soft as a baked potato inside, but crispy outside, the onions, what I pictured in my kind was not near as perfect as what appeared on my plate. I wanted to ask the chef how so I can replicate them at home. Eggs were scrambled light, fluffy, maybe they add something. These were light, realky scrumptious. Only slight was the coffee wasn't as strong as I prefer. It was a flavorful light roast, but I'm a coffee snob, so I prefer a rich, darl premium roast. Partially my fault for adding cream before tasting. Wasn't enough to withhold a star though. Thank you Yelpers that took time to share this spot with me. I've driven by Westpark way and 121 for 3 decades. I had a motorcycle accident on this very corner in 2000 something... youch. Never saw this place looking at traffic. First a thank you for not turning us away 45min till close. I hate arriving before a place closes. Great service and a nice place to have breakfast or lunch. The menu includes breakfast and lunch and you can have breakfast at any time as well. The food came out quickly and was delicious. We all loved our food. Plenty of refills on drinks. Great prices as well.

Had a good breakfast. Easy parking. Very convenient place to eat close to local hospital. Lots of seating options and looked like two side rooms for larger gatherings. Dessert counter with single slices of pies & cake. Typical breakfast & lunch diner menu with daily specials. A little over priced compared to other local places with same fare in my opinion. Very quiet with multiple tables enjoying meals. Immediately greeted, seated & drink order taken. Friendly service with 2 ladies working the room & register (mid morning during the week). Received our meals quickly. I was looking for a cheaper item and ended up with the EGG & CHEESE MELT ($11.25) with sliced potatoes. (You choose bacon or sausage for the sandwich then hashbrowns or sliced potatoes as the side). Two buttery slices of Texas toast with egg, cheese, & bacon. Truly hard to go wrong here unless you're watching calories and cholesterol intake. The potatoes were okay but nothing special. My Mom got THE TRADITIONAL ($13.75) - Two eggs, bacon (believe there was 3-4 slices), sliced potatoes, served with multigrain toast. We both enjoyed our meals. They were good basic breakfasts. Just a little more expensive than I'm used to in the area. But owning a small business is expensive and I imagine costs associated with maintaining an older building aren't cheap either. They have done a good job!

Trying out Real Texan Cafe. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and the waffles were light and airy. Our server was friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. The cafe has a cozy, down-to-earth feel, perfect for a weekend brunch. It seemed reasonably priced for the generous portion sizes. Highly recommend!

What a great hidden gem in the MidCities area. My dining out Toastmasters club decided to gather at Real Texas Cafe for our monthly meeting. Our meeting organizer knocked it out of the park, she picked an incredible venue with good ole southern cooking that makes tummies very happy. There were over 20 of us in attendance and the staff took care of us with military precision. Real Texas Cafe has a great menu of family favorites that will satisfy even the most pickiest eater. If someone can't find something on the menu they like, then something's wrong. I love a good meatloaf. After reading the previous reviews, I knew right away that I needed to order 'Mama's Meatloaf" accompanied with mashed potatoes and fried okra. You can't get much better than that. My wife decided on the grilled chicken salad. After a short wait, our orders started arriving. The whole staff pitched in to get the plates delivered to the proper individuals without the hot entrees getting cold. No one was disappointed. The portions are ample. If you leave Real Texas Cafe hungry, it's your fault, not the restaurants. My meatloaf was delicious. The accompanying mashed potatoes and fried okra were seasoned perfectly. Every once in a while one has to splurge on unhealthy choices and I had no regrets. My wife's salad was all that she wished for, cool, crisp and packed full of all the veggies she loved. Again our servers were spectacular in their handling of our group. My wife and I decided to return again soon for breakfast. We can't wait.

We happened to be in the area and enjoy the small, "hole in the wall" type of places, so thought, why not? We were immediately greeted by a friendly young man right we went walked in and were taken to a booth. We didn't wait long at all for drinks or to have our order taken, but the wait for our food was a bit long. At first glance, we weren't excited about the food, especially the 2 by 4, but we soon learned everything actually tasted great! The entire service staff seemed to work together as a happy team. They ran food and refills to each others tables and were all attentive. We were truly impressed by that. On our way out we asked the young man who greeted us and he let us know his mom owns the Cafe and it really gave us a family owned feeling, full of people who care about the customers. Definitely a spot worth checking out.

Greasy chicken fried steak, and cold eggs

The food came out greasy, cold, and missing items. It also took over 30 min. When you order grits, when putting butter in them, you would think it would melt? Nope!!

Great family style menu restaurant! Very friendly staff, clean with an up to date (Texas) decor/ atmosphere. Check out included menu pictures. The $12.99 price (for many items) could seem high until you see the large portions of fantastically prepared food. I love the Real Texas Omelette, it's a meat lovers plus! However, I'm never gotten anything which wasn't exceptional! They also have great homemade pie, too! This place is a must try!

This is definitely a mom and pop place with many regular customers. The waitresses are very friendly and attentive. They have daily specials. I had the two by four. Just a typical breakfast, the pancakes were delicious. They were nice and fluffy. I also had an order of biscuits and gravy. It could of been more flavorful and a little thicker gravy. It's an easy place to dine. I will be back to try their pot roast.

Everything great and actually better than expected aside from our server who disappeared after randomly deciding to give a table her unsolicited political opinions lol. She's harmless but funny and not the most focused..no big deal. Breakfast potato's were AMAZING! Perfectly crispy on the outside and indulgently soft on the inside. Eggs were perfect and portions large. Coffee great. Highly recommend!

Had a few issues with this place but may/may not give them another try. Ordered the veggie omelette and asked for no onions (had a ton of onions). The potato slices were good and had the biscuit (which was huge but cold). Also ordered a single pancake, which was fine. The decor was western, wide open space, typical booths and square tables. Biggest issue was they must've done a shift change while I was there because I waited 20 minutes for someone to give me my check. The other servers kept walking by but no one wanted to step up and take over my table. Little frustrating when you're ready to leave and people keep ignoring you.

Pie cabinet... I took a couple of the banana pudding pies to go.

Seems like at some point they made the portion sizes smaller to avoid a price increase, then increased the price anyway and forgot to make the portion sizes normal again. Was kind of like buying that bag of chips that is full of air and when you open it, nothing there. Meatloaf was lacking in every way. It was dry and the potatoes were dull. This was certainly not worth the 14 they charged. read more

5 stars all the way. From the salad with green leaf lettuce and croutons fresh made from old rolls to the thick homemade ranch and the delicious pot roast, everything about my lunch today was fresh* and delicious. *the green beans andwere canned but there is nothing wrong with that when they are prepared correctly. read more

Is it overrated? indeed it is. The lighting makes you feel gloomy. The entire place smells like the inside of the kitchen. We never got our corn bread (whatever) The salad looked sad!! The fried chicken was tasty, but I wouldn't eat it again. The mash potatoes were good. The fried okras were ok. The Mac and cheeses was okay. The French toast la were not good at all. The lemonade was not good at all, we asked to have it replaced for a soft drink and we were told that due to the water not being filter the sodas was gonna taste the same (whoa) . And it didn't. On top of that we never got a refill on our soft drink. We came out of there smelling like fried chicken, it was not a great experience. read more

I passed this place a couple of times. I even saw some of my YES friends pics with great captions. On a Friday night I didn't want to cook but the restaurants with bars were so packed it was like COVID isn't even a thing, I decided to stop in. First, the great impression of the owner right when I walked in genuinely asking how we were - A plus! Also, though he was standing there alone he had his mask covering his mouth AND nose, and was wearing gloves. The place says "Breakfast and Lunch" but they also serve Dinner, with different specials each day. The fish on Friday is fried catfish, and I got that with mac and cheese and fried okra. The catfish comes on a bed of lettuce and a tomato slice, which I declined. The waitress, who was wonderful and also appropriately wore her PPE, said "most people decline it." The fish was a big fillet, and so crispy and light. I loved the edges because the fried batter had gathered for a nice crunch! I absolutely loved the fried okra. It was ample, not soaked in grease, and served piping hot. The mac and cheese left a little to be desired, but wasn't inedible as someone here stated. I also did not think my meal was overpriced, as another here stated. As I was leaving, the waitress and owner thanked me abundantly, and gave an impassioned plea - "I really hope to see you again. We really want to be here in this community, and we need support. You were very nice, and we thank you so much for coming." I will absolutely be back. I really can't wait to check out the breakfast. I hope you will too. They take customer safety seriously, truly appreciate your patronage and serve a great meal. Head on over! read more

The building looks touristy, but the reviews were good so we gave it a try. Walked in and was greeted by a delightful lady and seated...not a bad start. Next was our server who really was a unicorn in disguise. She had all the charm and people skills to create a great dining experience. We/I decided on Onion Rings and an appetizer followed mlby Chicken Fried Steak. The onion rings rank in the Top 3cof all time. I loved the batter and they were not over salted but had a perfect blend of seasoning. Chicken Fried Steak did NOT disappoint. We had mashed potatoes, pinto beans, and green beans. All sides were yummy. With a small amount of space left, we shared a Peach Cobbler with ice cream. The carmelization on the crust made the cobbler very special and delicious. Just to seal the deal on my next trip over, the restaurant is beginning dinner service starting today! Can't wait to head over for the Thursday Turkey and Dressing Special! read more

Let me start off by saying there is a new sheriff in town. This place is legit. (Rona Its good, Really Really GOOD!) 1. Service 5 stars- My wife, BFF and I have visited several times and the staff are amazing(Veronica and sis Angel), incredibly personal and extremely friendly. The owner Roy is also super friendly and you can tell he wants your visit there to be perfect. 2. Food-5 stars You have a choice of rolls or cornbread. I had the rolls which were hot , soft and delicious. My wife had the cornbread and fully enjoyed it. They give you a complimentary salad, which looks just thrown on the plate, however its cold and crisp and is the perfect amount in our opinion. We had multiple different entrees on our visits and honestly could say you cannot go wrong with any of them. My fave is the meatloaf , its moist and delicious, their chicken fried steak so tender( way better then babes). There sides are ok. If you are lucky enough to be there when they have the cabbage and stuffing then you are in for a treat! Get them!. 3- COVID- They are following all protocols to keep everyone safe, but just like all other restaurants they are hurting. Please if you want a great meal , plan your visit here. You will not be disappointed. In conclusion, I didn't expect much from this restaurant that use to be the old China Dragon, but the staff and food has been amazing each time we have been there. I have gone to this place a few times. It is just what you need for some good Texas home cooking! I have had chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken both. Delicious! Fabulous light breading. Honestly my favorite parts are the fried okra and their salad croutons. AMAZING. The salad croutons are definitely made from scratch and have some seasoning that is to die for! I hope more people start trying out this place. It's super slow when we go in. $11.95 for an entree, salad, two sides, and a roll or cornbread! You can't beat it!!! read more

This was our first time here. We tried the chicken fried steak and chicken. They both are very good and tenderized perfectly. The batter crusting was also very good. The gravy was a little salty. As was the spicy black eyed peas. Overall a very good place to fill the void left by the Dixie Cafe. A definite return. read more

Carryout order. Had a BLT for lunch. The bacon on the sandwich was very good but the sandwich did not hold up well as it fell apart after the first bite. Fries were supposed to be on the side, did not receive. Have heard other menu items are delicious so I may try them again. read more

I decided to give this place a try for the first time today and it was very, very good! I had the chicken fried steak and two sides, it also came with a roll and a side salad. All that for $9.99 at dinner time, very reasonable! Everything was very good and the staff was efficient and friendly! I plan to return often! read more

If you like 'home cooked food' then this is the place for you. They are open for dinner too. Seems everything is made in house even down to the croutons on the salads. Vegetable are seasoned perfectly. Our new 'to go' place for great evening meals Great for breakfast too. The Bricker's in Euless. read more

Everyone was nice and food was OK. Nothing to brag about. The reason they are getting two stars from me is because the coffee and the fountain drinks are all the same price so my wife and I had coffee first and then we had sweet teas. They charged us two sweet teas and two coffees. Being that it was our first time there we did not know they would charge us double for extra drinks even though they are all the same price. Manager would not reverse the charges and because of that we will not be back. read more

We've been going here for a while now. The food is consistently good. They have the best homemade croutons and the fried okra (extra crispy) is the best in town. Ordered the Tuesday special of Chopped Steak with mashed and corn. The portion is huge. The chopped steak has to be at least half pound covered with brown gravy, bacon and cheeses. I requested no cheese and seems like my order may have been mixed up with someone else's as I got cheese on mine. Regardless it was delicious and it comes with a side salad and a roll. You need to give this place a try. Support your local, non-chain restaurants. You will be amazed at the delicious food you will find!!! read more

Very authentic Texas style cafe! Ample menu selection of down home faves including delectable chicken fried steak with cream gravy, fried okra and black eyed peas and many other such home style meals like mama used to make out at the ranch. The homemade meatloaf is very nice too! Don't miss the totally Texas treat of savoring this great grub! The wait staff are friendly sweet angels too so that's a cherry on top for sure. read more

The food is delicious. So many plate options. I ate there 4 times last month since we were in Euless for work. chicken fried steak, chicken/dressing, chopped steak, chicken fried chicken, all amazing. Spinach, green beans, twice baked potato, salad and rolls, all seasoned just right. It's 13.00 a plate but you get a lot of food. Everyone is very friendly. I wish I could move them to San Antonio. read more

Went to Real Texas Cafe for lunch ! The cafe was clean , and met all the Covid-19 Regulations. I ordered my go to favorite " patty melt " And my daughter had a meatloaf sandwich . Both items were great ! The Patty Melt had 2 patties and they were cooked to perfection! The Meatloaf Sandwich had generous portion of meatloaf ! Both served with fries and we ordered a plate of onion rings ! They were very good ! Very light and seasoned perfect, light and crisp! We will be going back ! read more

Me and my wife came here on a Saturday morning. We found a booth and waited a few minutes for the waitress to come by and get our drinks and orders. The restaurant looked maybe 50% full but it took almost 40 minutes to get our food. However, the waitress was nice and explained that they were short staffed (likely due to the pandemic) as other people were waiting around vying for attention from staff as well. Our breakfast food was good but not exceptional. read more

The food would get 4 stars. It was pretty darn tasty. The Service would get 5 stars. Friendly, took care of our table like a true professional. The cost is where you get dinged. It is over-priced. If you are going to try it, I would recommend the chicken-fried steak. read more

We have been going for breakfast and dinner here since Roy Sr. opened. He is greatly missed. Since his wife turned over the day to day operations, things have not been the same. Prices have gone up, and I understand the reasons for this, but other things have changed. Much of the breakfast seems to be pre cooked now. You can tell the bacon and sausage have been cooked and kept semi warm. The hash browns seem to be the same way. The only thing you could tell was fresh cooked were the eggs. We used to love looking forward to desserts after dinner, as Roy used to bake them himself. Now everything is store bought somewhere else. Frankly they are terrible now. Selection is down to next to nothing. The portions of everything seem to have gotten smaller but my main complaint is they nickel and time you to death now. We liked going in on Friday evening for pot roast. I always ask for my salad to just have lettuce and tomatoes only. No cheese or croutons. I was told there would be a extra charge to get tomatoes now. I said just leave them off. When the pot roast came, it had very little gravy on it. I asked for some extra gravy and was told the same thing, a extra charge for gravy. By then I was to scared to ask for a refill on my tea. When it was all said and done, we had two dinners and a hamburger for my grandson and after adding the tip, the bill was $60 It's a shame to see how things have been changing here. I don't think we will be coming back anytime soon. read more

It was ok. I had the chicken fried steak. Ive had a lot better in the area. Portion size was good. Thats the best thing i can say. Just kind of flavorless. Wife had the southwest chicken. She did not like it, said the chicken was tough and dry. Unless something changes this place wont be here long. read more

Me and my buddy came on a very cold day and they were not a whole Lot of people in the restaurant but, we were quickly seated and we quickly received our drinks. The menu was big enough and we quickly ordered. Within about 10 minutes our food was out and hot and extremely high-quality. They both ordered chicken sandwiches. There was more than enough meat on the sandwiches and the fries were hot and crispy. We had several waitresses come out several times to check on us. This was a great experience and I highly recommend it. read more

Enjoyed lunch with the family, the atmosphere is exciting as all waitress staff continually checked on our table. We were offered refills often, and they conveniently had a caddy with condiments provided. I love the decore around the restaurant. They just opened their remodeled back room and it was very uplifting and well lit. Very comfortable and comfy place to eat with your whole family. Large portions and plenty comes with your plate. My order came with the entree (pot roast) and 2 sides (Mac & Cheese , loaded mash) a roll (or you can get a corn bread) as well as a side salad for just 12.99. Overall a great deal. If the lunch and dinner special is this great, we will definitely come by for breakfast! read more
