It doesn't get more Texas than a great big HOWDY Y'ALL.

Good afternoon Yelpsters. Hope you're enjoying the rain as much as my yard is. I think I saw it smiling. Free water is always the best kind. So today, I wanted brunch. I usually trust my instinct. In the age of technology, those instincts are supplimented by an App, and thousands of thousands of great people like you. Yes you. . A review of Real Texas Cafe was highlighted this morning, so ever the lover of local mom and pop businesses, I scrubbed up to come chow down. I even put my stretchy joggers on just in case. I missed the rush. I figured theyclose at 2:30, come about 1:00 because the working ladies and gent have to be back at work. Lighter foot traffic means an unrushed, unstressed prepared brunch. Chefs/cooks don't need to be overwhelmed all the time. So I never show up last half hour of service, or at rush hour. The last picture tells the story. This is a family owned, family operated restaurant, not just in function, but in feel, in experience. It has an honest feel as if they truly want you to feel fed, and at home. No corporate vibe here. The kids are waiting and bussing tables, cashing you out, smiles galore. The meal? Griddlecakes, thick, but super light, fluffy, golden brown with that perfect buttery crisp edge. Just after Easter, both Jesus and these griddlecakes rose up. One saves my soul, the other, my appetite. God would laugh at that one so it's cool for you too. I asked for the sliced potatoes with crispy-crispy fried onions. Never in my 45 years of cooking have I achieved this result. The potatoes are soft as a baked potato inside, but crispy outside, the onions, what I pictured in my kind was not near as perfect as what appeared on my plate. I wanted to ask the chef how so I can replicate them at home. Eggs were scrambled light, fluffy, maybe they add something. These were light, realky scrumptious. Only slight was the coffee wasn't as strong as I prefer. It was a flavorful light roast, but I'm a coffee snob, so I prefer a rich, darl premium roast. Partially my fault for adding cream before tasting. Wasn't enough to withhold a star though. Thank you Yelpers that took time to share this spot with me. I've driven by Westpark way and 121 for 3 decades. I had a motorcycle accident on this very corner in 2000 something... youch. Never saw this place looking at traffic. First a thank you for not turning us away 45min till close. I hate arriving before a place closes. Great service and a nice place to have breakfast or lunch. The menu includes breakfast and lunch and you can have breakfast at any time as well. The food came out quickly and was delicious. We all loved our food. Plenty of refills on drinks. Great prices as well.

Had a good breakfast. Easy parking. Very convenient place to eat close to local hospital. Lots of seating options and looked like two side rooms for larger gatherings. Dessert counter with single slices of pies & cake. Typical breakfast & lunch diner menu with daily specials. A little over priced compared to other local places with same fare in my opinion. Very quiet with multiple tables enjoying meals. Immediately greeted, seated & drink order taken. Friendly service with 2 ladies working the room & register (mid morning during the week). Received our meals quickly. I was looking for a cheaper item and ended up with the EGG & CHEESE MELT ($11.25) with sliced potatoes. (You choose bacon or sausage for the sandwich then hashbrowns or sliced potatoes as the side). Two buttery slices of Texas toast with egg, cheese, & bacon. Truly hard to go wrong here unless you're watching calories and cholesterol intake. The potatoes were okay but nothing special. My Mom got THE TRADITIONAL ($13.75) - Two eggs, bacon (believe there was 3-4 slices), sliced potatoes, served with multigrain toast. We both enjoyed our meals. They were good basic breakfasts. Just a little more expensive than I'm used to in the area. But owning a small business is expensive and I imagine costs associated with maintaining an older building aren't cheap either. They have done a good job!

I had the meatloaf,mashed potatoes & pinto beans . Delicious every bite. Onion Rings here are the real deal . Big thick slices of onion and seasoned batter . Service was prompt . Tea was refilled quickly. Place was clean . Feels like a real cafe pardon the pun . Plenty of comfortable seating

Trying out Real Texan Cafe. The chicken was perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, and the waffles were light and airy. Our server was friendly and attentive, making the experience even better. The cafe has a cozy, down-to-earth feel, perfect for a weekend brunch. It seemed reasonably priced for the generous portion sizes. Highly recommend!

What a great hidden gem in the MidCities area. My dining out Toastmasters club decided to gather at Real Texas Cafe for our monthly meeting. Our meeting organizer knocked it out of the park, she picked an incredible venue with good ole southern cooking that makes tummies very happy. There were over 20 of us in attendance and the staff took care of us with military precision. Real Texas Cafe has a great menu of family favorites that will satisfy even the most pickiest eater. If someone can't find something on the menu they like, then something's wrong. I love a good meatloaf. After reading the previous reviews, I knew right away that I needed to order 'Mama's Meatloaf" accompanied with mashed potatoes and fried okra. You can't get much better than that. My wife decided on the grilled chicken salad. After a short wait, our orders started arriving. The whole staff pitched in to get the plates delivered to the proper individuals without the hot entrees getting cold. No one was disappointed. The portions are ample. If you leave Real Texas Cafe hungry, it's your fault, not the restaurants. My meatloaf was delicious. The accompanying mashed potatoes and fried okra were seasoned perfectly. Every once in a while one has to splurge on unhealthy choices and I had no regrets. My wife's salad was all that she wished for, cool, crisp and packed full of all the veggies she loved. Again our servers were spectacular in their handling of our group. My wife and I decided to return again soon for breakfast. We can't wait.

We happened to be in the area and enjoy the small, "hole in the wall" type of places, so thought, why not? We were immediately greeted by a friendly young man right we went walked in and were taken to a booth. We didn't wait long at all for drinks or to have our order taken, but the wait for our food was a bit long. At first glance, we weren't excited about the food, especially the 2 by 4, but we soon learned everything actually tasted great! The entire service staff seemed to work together as a happy team. They ran food and refills to each others tables and were all attentive. We were truly impressed by that. On our way out we asked the young man who greeted us and he let us know his mom owns the Cafe and it really gave us a family owned feeling, full of people who care about the customers. Definitely a spot worth checking out.

Great family style menu restaurant! Very friendly staff, clean with an up to date (Texas) decor/ atmosphere. Check out included menu pictures. The $12.99 price (for many items) could seem high until you see the large portions of fantastically prepared food. I love the Real Texas Omelette, it's a meat lovers plus! However, I'm never gotten anything which wasn't exceptional! They also have great homemade pie, too! This place is a must try!

Greasy chicken fried steak, and cold eggs

The food came out greasy, cold, and missing items. It also took over 30 min. When you order grits, when putting butter in them, you would think it would melt? Nope!!

This is definitely a mom and pop place with many regular customers. The waitresses are very friendly and attentive. They have daily specials. I had the two by four. Just a typical breakfast, the pancakes were delicious. They were nice and fluffy. I also had an order of biscuits and gravy. It could of been more flavorful and a little thicker gravy. It's an easy place to dine. I will be back to try their pot roast.

I went to the real Texas Cafe with my mom on mother's day. Tiffany was our server. My mom had ham and eggs with potatoes with toast. I had chicken fried steak and eggs. I was breakfast was great . It was very busy that day. Everyone was very friendly. Tiffany gave us excellent service. She was very sweet. I highly recommend this Cafe. We will be back soon. Thanks Adam read more

Really good new place. They are being very safe, even had to explain to customer they had to wear a mask unless he was eating. Food was great, deserts were amazing. Friendly staff. Good southern cooking. Had a great chicken fried steak. read more

Was looking for a breakfast place and found the Real Texas Cafe was near; so decided to try it out. Relatively new place, just shy of being open a year. The staff was very friendly and took care of anything you needed. Decided on one of several daily lunch specials - $11.95 with a salad and 2 sides. Tried the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes and black eyed peas. All were very good. Hot roll and gravy. Will definitely return to try breakfast. read more

My two friends and I have been meeting for breakfast every 6-8 weeks for much of the last 40 years (Crazy, huh!). We typically go somewhere in the Grapevine/Flower Mound area because that's in the middle from where we each live. Yesterday, I didn't have a car available so they came to Bedford and I was tasked with finding a 'great' place for breakfast. Since I don't often go out for breakfast here, I did massive google searches, checked reviews and menus, and although I had not eaten there, I chose Real Texas Cafe. Lot of anxiety leading up to the visit but it sounded good on paper so off we went. And were we so very glad we did! The restaurant is large, well-lit, with lot of space around the tables and booths, and not so loud as most other places--you could actually carry on a conversation and not have to yell. The staff was attentive but didn't hover and make you feel like all they were interested in was quickly turning their tables. Our food was served soon after we ordered and was hot and fresh and plentiful. My friends are somewhat connoisseurs of blueberry pancakes and said these were the best they had ever tasted--huge compliment!! Our orders always include very specific requests, such as soft or hard scrambled eggs, crispy or wimpy bacon (of which you get 4 big pieces with every entree!), buttered or dry toast, etc. and all orders were exactly as requested. Real Texas Cafe is a true family-owned restaurant and all the servers, cooks, cashiers, etc. are part of that family. Justin was our server and was wonderful. That makes this a unique restaurant and enables the awesome experience guests receive. read more

Had an early breakfast. Great Friendly service, they were almost too happy for early morning. . Pancakes were thick, not fluffy same with the biscuits. Chicken fried steak was ok, eggs were cook nicely. Hash Browns are actually country cut potatoes so don't expect real breakfast hash browns, this is a biggie for me cause I Love Crispy Hash Browns ! So for that reason we can't go back to this place. read more

My first time here and I'm blown away by the friendliness, happiness, and deliciousness that encapsulate this place! JaDon is a super star waitress who's just like a long time friend. I chose to have the chicken fried chicken, loaded mashed potatoes, and fried corn nuggets. What a savory culinary delight! Even the roll was extra special. Excellent with coffee! If you're missing out on your Dixie House food fix, this is the place for you! The chicken fried steak, pot roast, turkey and dressing, and the hamburger steak did not disappoint. Everyone around us was ordering the homemade onion rings. Huge portions of tried and true southern staples will put you in your happy place. Try the sweet cornbread! read more

Wife and I had burgers and fries today. One of the best cheeseburgers I've ever had and the fries were great too. It is no wonder why the place is always busy. We have eaten there probably 6 times now and have always left feeling glad we went. The food and service are 5 star. read more

We got their at about 10:00am just two of us. And it was pretty empty. We had one server take our drink order and another take our food order. Then it started to pick up a bit. They had a table of six come in and several tables of two come in. Several tables who came in 15 or so minutes after us started getting their food. I didn't think much of it at first until everyone who had come in after us received their food. After 57 minutes I decided to ask and she claimed that the food was given to someone else on accident and that she re submitted the order. At that point we had somewhere else to be and didn't wait for the food. Just know if you come here to check in with the serve about the status of your food. I was looking forward to it but oh well. At least we got free coffee. read more

DISGUSTING!!! Wanted to charge me $13 for chicken fried steak...all breading no meat.... no flavor ..it's GROSS... nothing was seasoned...I've had better food in a school cafeteria!!!! Walked out won't be back!!! Manager wouldn't even come ask what was wrong.... read more

All I have to say is racist. We walked in no one said anything helped us at all. Sat down by ourselves and waited 20 minutes. Not one person working there even looked at us. I would not recommend. The building smelled funny as well. That was a horrible experience. read more

I've driven past this place 1000 times and finally decided to stop in and try it for a Sunday morning breakfast, I was not disappointed! Great food, great service, big portions at a reasonable price! Waitresses were all very friendly, efficient and on point. Nice clean Texas country atmosphere. I had the "2 x4", 2 eggs, 4 pieces of bacon 4 pancakes (I subbed French toast - 4 triangles which was plenty ). It was brought out hot and quick! read more

Wow! We arrived near closing time and they were very welcoming.. GREAT food promptly delivered, hot and fresh. Chicken fried steak with light, crispy batter and perfect cream gravy. Mashed potatoes like Mom made.. Rolls or cornbread.. you can't go wrong. Staff is Texas Friendly. Clean and comfortable. VERY HIGHLY RECOMMEND. A Mid Cities gem.. will def be back. read more

Unfortunately I will not go back. The food was not that great. For 15.63 which was a ice tea and dinner Special, it was awful. I will say the meatloaf was ok. But the salad was probably kept in a bowl open in the fridge. I received very wilted brownish salads. The veggies, corn and peas with carrots were brown. Like sitting in a cooked pot for days. The cornbread was ok. The food was no where worth 11.95 . I was really hoping for a better dining experience. read more

I've been three times. The customer service is awful and the menu is extremely limited. The last time I walked out after watching the entire waitstaff AND the manager ignore me while they laughed and carried on with customers who had already been served. read more

We just ate here this morning and the food was terrible. We were told a few times by the staff that the food is great "which was a tell," but it clearly was not. The grilled chicken had a freezer burn taste, the "complimentary salad" was old and brown, corn bread tasted like tap water and detergent and overall just a unappetizing experience for overpriced garbage food. Save your money and go somewhere else. read more

Tried this new restaurant a few weeks ago. As much as I wanted to love this place, I just can't. I ordered the chicken fried chicken with Mac-n-cheese and mashed potatoes ( I know you don't eat two starches, but I really wanted mashed potatoes). My hubby ordered the chicken fried steak with green beans. First off, the Mac-n-cheese was a duplicate of the kraft brand in a box, but worse. I only ate two bites. Couldn't finish it. I couldn't even get my hubby to eat it, it was that bad. The mashed potatoes were ok. I finished those. But, while the chicken fried chicken crust was flavorful, it was as if I was eating a stamp. I think they got a breast and sliced it at least four or five times. It was literally paper thin. I had to cut it and stack at least two or three pieces in order to taste the chicken. Whoever said in a previous review that the chicken fried chicken was better than Babe's must have gone to a wanna be Babe's, because there is NO WAY this was better. NO WAY!!!! Babes actually serves you a chicken fried steak with plump juicy chicken. My hubby said his chicken fried steak was "alright." That's what he says when he's not impressed with his meal. We won't be going back. Sorry, I really wanted to love this place. read more

We were offered refills often, and they conveniently had a caddy with condiments provided. I love the decore around the restaurant. They just opened their remodeled back room and it was very uplifting and well lit. Very comfortable and comfy place to eat with your whole family. Large portions and plenty comes with your plate. My order came with the entree (pot roast) and 2 sides (Mac & Cheese , loaded mash) a roll (or you can get a corn bread) as well as a side salad for just 12.99. Overall a great deal.
