A friend of mine and I have been to "Ready to Eat" several times. Each time we've stopped in for lunch, we've been really impressed. We're impressed with the quality of both the customer service and the delicious food. Let me break this down! First of all, it's a charming eatery, with old-school West Village vibes, reminding us of the days when the crowd here was more artsy and less corporate. And it exists on an unassuming block, on Hudson Street. One could almost walk by without even noticing it, which is largely why I'm writing this complimentary review. (We gotta publicize this great place!) The woman who has always served at the counter there (around 1 PM on weekdays), is: friendly, efficient, patient and welcoming. She always brings a smile to our faces. And the man who serves in the kitchen area seems quite warm, too, even though I haven't spoken with him as much. The food has always been fresh, plentiful and tasteful. *Bravo* The last time I was there, I ordered the turkey burgers paired with the lemon potatoes. So awesome! Another time, I ordered the Greek/Israeli salad, which was also really awesome. I also had a kale-based salad there once, which was equally awesome. I discovered Ready To Eat by accident on Sat while walking down Hudson. The food was delicious. I first had chicken and fresh ham plates and brought them home for dinner. Really really good. This place has replaced my cooking.... The woman who took my order was very nice and explained that my dishes came with a side. The sides are interesting many veggies and flavorful. I picked the Brussels sprouts and pasta salad. Great take our spot. Very good food. read more

Convenient take away spot for lunch and dinner. Plenty of options for prepared salads, sandwiches, and entrees. I had a mix of cauliflower with chickpea curry salad and a beets with corn salad. A perfect cold salad for the hot and humid day that it was. The small portion was about $9. Service was very quick. read more

The guy works there is very helpful and patient. This is my first time try this type of food. Salmon fillet is great and tastes not fishy at all. The season is right to the point. LOOOOVE this lil place - amazing fresh, healthy food prepared & ready for you to enjoy. A few of my personal favorites~ MAINS: - salmon filet (comes w/ a nice dollop of avocado egg salad on top) - salmon cakes SIDES: (usually these come with the mains, and you can choose whichever sides spark your fancy) - avocado/tomato salad - greek salad - kale salad - tortellini AND THE SHINING STAR: the sweet potatoes! I've been obsessing over these babies over the past few weeks. I'm lucky enough to live across the street basically, so sometimes I'll pop over just for a side of sweet potatoes. (even if you don't see them out, you can ask & they'll have them in the back) I know they have specials of the day, where you get a good price on a main + 2 sides (something along those lines), which is awesome. You get a ton of food for your money & like I said- so fresh & delicious. They always offer to heat up your food for you, and their attention to the little things is much appreciated, like not putting certain foods in the same box (ones that might make a weird combo)- I can't think of a good example but I've always noticed they are intentional about their customers really enjoying the food and they don't want anything to hinder that. They always ask if you need silverware with your food- I don't since I live so close, but thought I'd mention it. They have some beverages, desserts, homemade soups, sandwiches, etc. They are also doing a great job with the covid situation always offering sanitizer and sanitizing between customers. I'm a local boy here in this neighborhood more than 50 years and decided to try something at Ready To Eat on Hudson Street which has been at this spot since 1999. I always passed it by when it had Rotisserie Chicken plastered across its entrance and I'm no lover of poultry. However, today I decided to try its rigatoni along with a turkey burger. Took 'em home and slow-heated 'em up in the oven before eating 'em. First off the rigatoni meal was virtually tasteless and hard while the turkey burger was ... boringly bland. I won't be back for a second try at its food selections because I don't believe in second chances for a business that touts itself as having a 'great selection of foods' and clearly doesn't. Add to that what virtually all other businesses engage in these days ... high prices for standard meals. read more

"Ready To Eat" is our favorite kitchen. We love the great selection of food and rotation of menu items; often, RTE has dishes that we don't normally cook at home but would like to have every-so-often. Our favors: Beef/lamb Stew, Cheese Tortellini/Moussaka/pasta, curry chicken wraps, avocado wraps, rotisserie chicken, curry cauliflower, various salads. We ordered delivery last evening. The rotisserie half chicken I tried was dry and not very flavorful. The chicken Milanese was simply a large chicken breast cutlet, breaded and fried and served without the salad that it is usually topped with. Also, it too was extremely dry. The only side that I liked was the eggplant caponata was nothing like I have ever eaten before, not a compliment, and was missing the olives and the rich flavor of a real caponata. I make caponata once in a while and mine is considerably better. The prices were not excessive bur the food could have been better. read more

They have had a "Grade Pending" rating from the health department for many weeks now--and the sign mysteriously disappears from their window most days. The hot food is bland and salty, and not always hot. I bought a sandwich there recently--a pre-made sandwich that I pulled from the cold case and the counter woman simply stuck in a bag for me. Well, when I didn't tip for this overpriced item, the woman suddenly went silent and cold. No "thank you," no nothing. Guess we'll be taking our money to Blackstone down the street. read more

This is such a great little take-out place. I had to stop to write a review to counter the several negative ones, which to me are really surprising. I live nearby and come here frequently because you can always get something healthy to take home. I typically order a split side, ie, two smaller portions of salads or vegetables for the price of one, but really this is a generous portion of each and enough to make a meal (price: ~$9.00). There are always many options to choose from, and they change; it's not always the same thing. And I order the fish often, especially the salmon, and the vegetarian wrap sandwich for lunch. Yes, it is pricey, but I've never had a problem paying a premium for quality goods (I present my Amex bill as evidence) And this, my friends is quality goods. And not only quality goods, but quality goods in a place that lives up to its name. Hearty sandwiches, big, yummy salads, clever sides, and fabulous baked goods, all made fresh, pre-packaged and ready to go for a picnic, dinner at home, or lunch at your desk. Personal faves include the Atlantic Salad and the Thai Steak salad. I'm also a big fan of their little packs of 3 mini cookies. Ready to Eat is a perfect lunch spot in the West Village! They have an amazing selection of cold salads, or fresh entrees that can be warmed also! I tried the fennel salad, quinoa salad, amazing wild rice salad with barley, cranberries and pine nuts, and the awesome lamb meatballs. The salads were fantastic but I have to say the lamb was the star of the show, incredible seasonings, and served with the surrounding onions, peppers and jus that they were cooked in. I could have had a dozen of these! I could have also tried their whole array of salads, but I will have to save that for next time! Ready to Eat also showcased beautiful filets of salmon, some simply grilled and some with what looked to be a soy or balsamic glaze. The best part of this spot is that you can come in and try a bit of everything, and leave totally satisfied and feeling fresh, not overstuffed. I also loved that they had fresh Cock's Comb flower arrangements on the tables, gives homage to my South Carolina Gamecocks and my mom also grows it in her garden. Very fresh food. I went here because I had a Groupon- it's somewhat expensive. Hot the shrimp salad, which has a great tangy flavor because of the mayo/spice-based sauce. I enjoy the food here but I would go more often if it were not for the way they priced their items. You can order sides per half pound, but not meat items! If you want meat items, you would have to order them as entrees with sides, and lunch prices are different than dinner prices. I will probably continue going to Brooklyn Fare to order all my items per pound even though I actually prefer the food here. The lunch entree had too much chicken for me so I am left with chicken in a large box after my lunch. Please sell your meat items by pound if your customers are willing to buy! read more

Our office is fairly new to the soho/West village area. Everyday a few of us try out new lunch spots and have a growing catalog of amazing places to return to. Ready To Eat will NOT be one of those places. First- the chicken 'breast' filled with bones, and a side of Kale- served lovingly on a paper plate and nuked in the microwave is certainly not worth the $14.35 that I was charged. Second- I don't know what they cook with by my co worker any who both had the kale on the side returned to the office and were on the very of getting sick all afternoon. Much better places to eat in the area- will not be returning. read more

Their grilled Chicken breast was really big but not good flavor, Their salmon dishes look and tastes and looks like they got it in Chinatown, I won't be back. I gotta say, I'm not sure where these positive reviews are all coming from. I went in to order for lunch. First problem? I literally stood there for five minutes waiting to order. And it's not like I didn't see someone. And it's not like they didn't see me she was writing something down. And then putting something on a grill. But I will say there were other people back there. Any of whom you could be like "Hey you, take care of this, so I can take care of this order." She didn't. She took her time and when she finally came over there was no "sorry for the delay" I put in my order for the special. Which was literally a bowl of chicken stew that was sitting right there. You ladle it on some rice you hand it over. But the lady working the counter might have been busy with another order. That's fine. I'll wait my turn. And I sat. And I waited. And waited. And eventually I got up to go get it. And there was some older guy with an accent showing something on his phone to her and everyone else in the back. The prep guy. Her. Some other dude. He and I made eye contact. I had a look that said "you know, I'm not pleased." He made a face and then went back to showing everyone whatever was on his phone. I continued to stand at the counter and stare, steely at the side of his head. Until finally, he looked at me, and made eye contact and, annoyed, told that middle aged woman there to take care of me. She came over and I told her I was still waiting on my stew. She smiled and said they were working on it. She'd bring it right over. And out of the corner of my eye I saw her do what I expected her to do 10 minutes ago: ladle some stew from an aluminum container right there onto some rice and bring it over. She smiled and told me to enjoy. Without a fork. It involved me getting up again. I asked one of the guys over there for a fork because she'd already walked away into the back - presumably to look at the old guy's phone again. I got my fork. I sat down. I'd read all the reviews. If the stew was at least good then this kind of slapdash service might be worth it. Yeah it was cold. My advice? If you have to eat here, order delivery. I was hungry and wanted to buy 2 dishes (one for dinner and another for the next day's lunch) and somehow it totaled up to $26. Normally, price is not an issue for me but I just felt the food they serve are "comfort food." How is spaghetti and meatballs $13? How is that the same price as Shrimp linguine? Unless otherwise stated, I am assuming these are not organic (which I can justify at times). The meals are already cooked and kept cool so if you want to eat in, they can microwave for you (which I didn't like). Even after microwaving, my dish was still lukewarm. The ingredients are fresh, sure. The meal was good, yes. But for salad and simple dishes you can easily make at home, the price is steep. So I rarely make it to the West Village but when I do I always find some little space with good eats. Ready to Eat is one of them. The unassuming storefront and small space is easy to pass by..alas though, you definitely shouldn't pass it up. The food is good, fresh and it feels like home-cooking. Most dishes are towards the healthier side, think salads, soups, sandwiches..fresh, fresh, fresh. Mixed salads, herb roasted chickens, quinoa, etc..I'd say it's similar to an Amish Market/Dig Inn/Whole Foods Deli/Ol' School Deli/Neighborhood spot with some of the freshest grab and go bites you can find. read more

Good food. I happened to park across the street. When exiting my car I was hit with the smell of food. I quickly glanced across the road and noticed several restaurants. Each looked great. I decided to grab something from here out of convenience. I walked in and saw a plethora of chocked, which made my tastes buds slap the roof of my my mouth like a high five. It took a solid 2 minutes to decided in which sides to pick, but my choices were solid. I had the rotisserie chicken with a kale and beet salad second to brussels sprouts and capers. I went there years ago, but I got really sick once after eating there, so I stopped. I went back recently and have been enjoying it, but I just went in there and was waiting on line behind two older gentleman. One of them had a fork that he took out and then, after asking the guy behind the counter, or telling him is more like it, he took the fork and stuck it over the cough guard and into one of the main serving platters, from which he grabbed a bite of something and put it in his mouth. My first night in the village I was sick. Whiney, boogery, weak and sick. All I wanted was some warm soup, a box of lotion-y tissues, and a bed. After dragging everything I have for my month in NYC from the lower east side to the west village, I asked my host where I could get some soup and she suggested this place. We didn't stay long, thankfully, because I really wanted to lay down. But the staff eagerly heated my soup before I left. And it was soooo good. Big chunks of yummy and tender chicken, the perfect amount of salt and pepper already added, noodles that weren't mushy and overcooked, and little pieces of vegetables that were still recognizable. Bright orange carrots, strongly noticeable celery, and I even found some bit of parsnips. I love parsnips! Well made food for New Yorkers on the go! read more

Weekday Dinner Take-out I tried twice but not quite Ready To Eat meals for me. My choices, so far, lacks in moisture and salt. Stew or things drenched in a sauce would be the ones to choose. My fried chicken that I was recommended by a nice Irish American guy was just okay sadly. Fried chicken w/ one side ($14) - Even after heating up in an oven for 5-10 minutes for 350°F as suggested by the nice guy, the chicken didn't really recovered. Adding some Kosher salt helped the flavor but I could not help on its dryness and last attempt of microwaving it made worse. - Roasted beets (side) I am pretty sure it was fantastic when it came out of the oven but what I got was that the outer layer had gotten hard and chewy. Adding some water to it when I heated up in my oven or seal tight and put in a microwave helped a bit but never recover the freshness of beets flavors obviously. Lamb Meatballs w/ a side - Three regular size balls. The balls were fine nothing very special. I wish to experience like Carley F. did, "the star of the show." - Mac&Cheese It was super dry. Milk at home helped but it was still not happy. - Roasted yellow squash It was sweet and soft and the texture from the skin was nice. We enjoyed it a lot. I am still not giving up on them yet. They have so much (maybe too much) to choose from. I am sure there is something makes me smile. This is what I will do, get anything looks fresh and avoid dried looking ones. read more

Sometimes I get it in my head that it's too expensive, but really not much more so than a lot of my other lunch options in the neighborhood & at least the quality matches the price tag. I usually get a sandwich & a vegi side because I can't resist whatever totally over-olive-oiled & delicious thing they have on the counter. Today it was roasted cauliflower.
