Cafe Mogador is a longstanding Moroccan cafe that has been a constant in the neighborhood for many years now. There's usually a wait here, but I'd say it's worth it. They have a brunch and dinner menu, and we came in for lunch. I had the malawach, which is sort of reminiscent to Malaysian roti canai or Chinese scallion pancakes (of course, without the scallions). It's rich and served with a few different sauces. The hummus had a great texture and was flavorful with tahini and schug (a type of middle eastern hot sauce). Will be back for dinner, which features classics like tagine and grilled kabobs. Cafe Mogador has a great vibe and you can tell by the many regulars that it's a beloved East Village institution.

This place is so moody and lively, I love it. Perfect spot for comfort food on a casual night. The waiters struck the ideal balance between checking in and giving us room to breathe. Make sure to make reservations, because the place was packed. I'd recommend ordering a spread of apps and mains to share so everyone gets to try the dishes- the lamb fell off the bone, and the halloumi was my favorite app. Would definitely return, such a staple.

Went in on a busy Sunday. Service was fast and food was amazing. Good times, a must see for new New Yorkers and Native New Yorkers a like.

This brunch restaurant is an exquisite vibe that has a lot more than the small store-front look from the front. Once you enter the narrow doorway that leads you past the outdoor diners, you'll be warmly embraced by authentic Mediterranean food aromas and a very friendly wait staff. We had to wait until the full group of 4 was seated, which gave us ample time to catch up and study the menu at the same time. Our party tried a variety of drinks that ranged from the iced tea to a latte to the recommended teapot (with a little sugar). Food wise, we shared pita with the hummus and labne with za'atar, which was like a yogurt with some spices. For the mains we tried the eggs blackstone, halloumi eggs, and French toast, all of which were amazing and distinct in flavor in their very own surprisingly home-y way.

Service: 4.3/5 Food: 4.5/5 Price: $30-$50 Came here for our monthly Roommate Dinner + it was a bustling! My last visit was years ago, so I'd forgotten how large the restaurant was. Or maybe I didn't notice the 2nd room at the time. It's dimly lit inside, with decorations covering the walls + corners, creating a cozy, homey feel, particularly with the fake fireplace in the side room. Background chatter creates a white noise without interrupting conversation or music enjoyment. Staff was nice + considerate. They have a pretty small, curated menu of some semi-familiar items. We split everything 6 ways, which I would not recommend. If your group is larger than 3, I'd suggest getting individual entrées + sharing apps instead. What I Ordered: - Mezze with Babaganoush: faint roasted flavor, not for me, slightly burnt pita - Parathi: flaky, buttery, 3 dips: 1 spicy beans, 1 tangy + spicy, 1 less spicy fresh chutney - Bastilla: our unfamiliar item, good crust, chicken was a little underwhelming - Lamb Shank Tagine (with apricot sauce): SO tender + fragrant, minimal sauce, good amount of meat - Salmon (special): tender, creamy grits/potatoes, okay veggies - Duck (special): pretty good, tender, unimpressive plating - Beet Salad (special?): pretty standard, refreshing - Baklava: good dough, fragrant pistachio, one of the less sweet versions I've had (which is a good thing)

Tried Cafe Mogador for the first time in Manhattan location. The food was fantastic! Fresh hummus and warm pita bread to start. We followed this up with lamb shank tangine and chicken kebab. My favorite was the lamb which is filling portion. Recommend the apricot and prune sauce if you enjoy sweet/savory combo. Service was quick and staff was attentive. Ambience is calm, warm and welcoming. Popular spot, would make resys.

I really loved the simple cozy ambiance of this restaurant. My friend and I ordered pita with babaganush as an appetizer. The pita bread was fluffy and warm. Really enjoyed it by dipping it in the babaganush. I ordered the Salmon Nicoise salad while my friend ordered the Lamb Shank Tagine with casablanca sauce and couscous. We very much enjoyed the dishes here and the service was impeccable.

Food was very good. I've never had French toast with that type of bread which was unique. The labne was very yummy and I liked the large pita breads it came with. Very cozy vibes inside. Service was a bit slow at the end I think our server forgot about us because we were in the corner. We got postcards at the end which I loved.

I've been wanting to try this place for dinner, I've only gone to the williamsburg location for lunch a couple times (their salmon cake sandwich is to die for). I came with my friend and we shared everything. Highly recommend making a resy because the place was packed even for a tuesday night. Food recs: Lamb tagine with casablanca sauce + couscous Mixed grilled meats Hummus Pickles and olives

It's been a while since I've eaten here so we came for lunch yesterday and I'm kicking myself that I left it so long to come back. The outdoor terrace is a great place to people watch but it was a little chilly so we ate inside. It feels like a bistro, and has a great ambiance. The servers are friendly and efficient. We grabbed a couple of sandwiches, one was chicken and the other was the Sabich which is egg and eggplant. Both sandwiches were stuffed full of filling and were tasty with lots of fresh ingredients and subtle spicing. We also had some fries with Harissa Ketchup - crisp crunchy and salted just right! Prices are very reasonable. It's a great place to catch up with friends or even for a solo lunch with your book. We will be back soon!

The brunch was absolutely delicious. The Moroccan Benedict was amazing. Loved the spices. The lamb sausage texture was a bit strange but loved the flavor. The zataar fries were delicious. Very nice ambiance and service was good as well. Would absolutely recommend for brunch.

Not my first time dining at Cafe Mogador. It's been a decade or more since I've eaten dinner and brunch there. This time, it was for dinner and a drink. We ordered bastilla and special requests for charmoulla sauce. Kefta kabob entree. A Moroccan mint cocktail. Food was fine. The cocktail was light on alcohol. I picked the table between the water station and bar. It's pretty noisy there, and I won't sit there next time. Service was okay. Air conditioner, could use more since the door and windows were open.

My friend and I needed a place to eat brunch/lunch and she had been here before for dinner. We were only a party of 2 but everyone has to be present to be seated. We chose to sit inside because there's AC inside. We shared: - Turkish coffee - we each got one and they were strong!! They come in a cute little dispenser and small mug. You could probably fill up the mug 4 times. The coffee is infused with some fragrant spices, which you fist taste but the after taste is better. I wasn't the biggest fan but I've always wanted to try Turkish coffee - middle eastern breakfast: I loved this! I loved the salad and how light everything was - salmon salad: also loved this. I needed/wanted a salad since it was so hot outside. They let us linger and chill/catch up! We were never rushed. I would definitely come back.

    Do they offer postachio martini?

Do they take reservations at all?

Yes. They take reservations via Resy.

Do they have outside seating and if so do they provide heaters?

The brooklyn location has an enclosed "outside " balcony but not the Manhattan location

If I don't want to wait on Saturday brunch, what time should I go? Maybe a little before the opening?

Showing up a little before they open might be your best bet for getting a table on a Saturday considering outside seating is limited

Is it busy Friday nights? If so, when does it get less busy?

I assume Saturday's are the busiest night of the week and we only had to wait 20 minutes for a table. The bar had spots to wait so killing time was easy.

How is the coffee? (I feel like this can be a big plus for a brunch spot)

    I don't drink coffee sorry!

Hi, is it a halal restaurant plz?

    No, it's not

    Is the meat halal?

I just asked. They said it is not halal.

Can I order egg white omelet off the menu?

    Is it busy early Saturdays?

I waited 20-30 minutes for a table for 4. They don't let you sit until your whole party is there.

    Will they serve Vegetable Tagine?

    Yes!!

Do they have brunch on weekdays? Thanks!

No, Brunch is only served on Saturdays and Sundays. You will find that this is a standard practice in NY.… Read more

Their shawarma is honestly some of the best I've had in NYC--juicy, well-seasoned, and wrapped or plated in a way that feels very satisfying without being greasy or heavy. What makes the place even better is the variety on the menu. You're not limited to just wraps; there's a good mix of platters and rice-based dishes too, which makes it easy to go back and try something different each time. The biryani is a pleasant surprise--fragrant, well-spiced, and not overly oily--and the kofta with rice is especially good, really tender and flavorful with a nice balance of spices. Overall, it's a solid go-to for consistently tasty, authentic comfort food.

My friends and I stopped in for a quick and casual meal. The restaurant is super casual, with reasonable prices. We started with the labneh and pita - it was well spiced and tart, and a great, simple appetizer to get us ready for the rest of the meal. I personally got the lamb burger. It was juicy and hearty, and the pickles provided a nice little kick of acidity amongst the cheesy, rich bite. We thought about trying the baklava, but were too full due to the fair portion size. I've got my eye on the loaded fries for another meal, and a shakshouka for breakfast one day!
