MY FAVORITE!! My friend and I went here for dinner and holy moly, I don't think I've ever loved a restaurant more. This is officially my new go to spot and I'm going to be telling everyone about it. I got there right at our reservation time, but the uptown trains had completely stopped and my friend had to walk all the way from Canal St to the East Village. It took her about 30 minutes to get there (), but the staff were so kind about it. They never made me feel uncomfortable or pressured to order while I waited, which I really appreciated. I did end up ordering a couple things so there would be food on the table when she arrived. We got the za'atar fries and the falafel with tahini and pita. Delishhhh For our mains, my friend got the chicken kebab which looked fantastic, and I got the veggie couscous bowl. It was unbelievable. It tasted exactly like the couscous my mom and safta made when I was growing up, even down to the broth being served with it. Eating it honestly made me feel like I was six years old again. This was one of my favorite meals as a kid and I haven't had it like that in so long, so I was so happy to find a place that does it this well. The vegetables were perfect with zucchini, butternut squash, cauliflower, and chickpeas, and I loved the addition of raisins and onions. Everything was also really reasonably priced for what you get. The energy in the restaurant was great and I loved that they have hooks for coats so you're not crammed at the table with jackets and bags. Overall just such a fantastic experience. We ordered delivery, so I'm not sure how the food would compare if we ate in restaurant. I also can't speak to the service and ambiance. My favorite dish was definitely the chicken tagine with the lemon and olive sauce. The chicken was very juicy, and the flavors were unique. I also liked the couscous and the veggies in it, although the chicken was a little on the dry side. The chicken grill was quite juicy too, just a little less flavorful. Wait was easily an hour plus, so definitely come prepared for that. Once we got in though, the vibe was quite chill. My friends and I shared the hummus and falafel to start, and the pitas are so filling you could almost stop there. There was also a special appetizer on the menu that was exactly like a Kerala parotta, super flaky and layered. For the mains, my friends had the meat dishes and a lamb special, but I tried the veg curry. It honestly tasted very Indian, like a proper home-style curry. Found out from the server that the chef actually spent a few years in India, which makes sense why the flavors were so spot on. We also got the truffle fries to go with our mains and they were excellent. The only downside is the drink menu needs more non-alcoholic options, it's a bit dry if you're looking for mocktails. Cafe Mogador is a longstanding Moroccan cafe that has been a constant in the neighborhood for many years now. There's usually a wait here, but I'd say it's worth it. They have a brunch and dinner menu, and we came in for lunch. I had the malawach, which is sort of reminiscent to Malaysian roti canai or Chinese scallion pancakes (of course, without the scallions). It's rich and served with a few different sauces. The hummus had a great texture and was flavorful with tahini and schug (a type of middle eastern hot sauce). Will be back for dinner, which features classics like tagine and grilled kabobs. I'm not sure how I have never reviewed Cafe Magador, but its a staple that I guess I have always taken for granted. The Hummus platter, with or without falafel is a must have. Chicken Kebab is a go to for me, except on those days where I have ordered French Toast and felt like I should be ashamed of myself when I could get Middle Eastern Breakfast, rather then something I can get anywhere else.But the fact that you have these options is one of the things that makes Cafe Mogador a place to go to. read more

It's been a while since I've eaten here so we came for lunch yesterday and I'm kicking myself that I left it so long to come back. The outdoor terrace is a great place to people watch but it was a little chilly so we ate inside. It feels like a bistro, and has a great ambiance. The servers are friendly and efficient. We grabbed a couple of sandwiches, one was chicken and the other was the Sabich which is egg and eggplant. Both sandwiches were stuffed full of filling and were tasty with lots of fresh ingredients and subtle spicing. We also had some fries with Harissa Ketchup - crisp crunchy and salted just right! We chose to sit inside because there's AC inside. We shared: - Turkish coffee - we each got one and they were strong!! They come in a cute little dispenser and small mug. The flavor, the texture. Omg so good. My daughter liked the hummus the most. I thought it was a touch bland but she could probably eat it for every meal. My fault for choosing that sauce because they had others. The server recommended it, but I should've gone with my gut and ordered the chicken with preserved lemon sauce because that's the sauce that was calling to me. I just thought lamb sounded good. My daughter couldn't stop talking about the chicken, and the curry was yummy. We ordered gelato and sorbet for dessert. They were fine but maybe not worth it. Overall, this was a great spot. Not the friendliest, but we gave up on that not long after arriving on the island. You get five falafel balls and a side of tahini for $9.00. Make of it what you will, I think it's worth it. I also tried my friend Samir's babaganoush. A little too rich for me, but a table favourite. If you assumed they had several vegetarian dishes, you'd be right. I, however, went with the Lamb Shank Tagine. Out of this world! The Chicken is equally as tasty. One of the highlights was the pita. It came out soft and warm and tasted wonderful. My friend, boyfriend, and I came as soon as they opened Saturday morning for brunch. Good move on our end, because we avoided any lines and got first pick for seating (indoor or outdoor!) We shared the halloumi eggs, Moroccan eggs, and mezze platter (our choices were the baba ghanoush, hummus, and marinated beets). All the food was delicious, but my favorite was the freshly-baked pita. I haven't been here in years (10+?, I'm too old to keep track anymore haha) but they expanded and there's a lot of seating. We ordered the merguez sausage from the grill with rice/cabbage/vegetable skewer, merguez sausage couscous with vegetables, lamb shank tagine with apricots/prunes, and the eggs blackstone with salad/potatoes. Cafe Mogador is a lovely spot for Mediterranean cuisine!! I came with my family for brunch, and ordered the Sabich plate without the eggs. The eggplant was made beautifully and I really enjoyed the flavor of the spicy grated tomato with the amba. There were limited vegan options for breakfast/brunch, but luckily customizations can be made. I definitely want to return for lunch or dinner because that's when most of the vegan options are available.
