Many tried before Dave but none were successful. He is the man! I spent at least 8 hours with several tech support organizations, prior to Re-computer, attempting to solve an Outlook connectivity issue resulting from the migration of my files to a new computer. They failed. Dave succeeded in 1.5 hour. The entire client experience was excellent from the scheduling with Morgan, the Dave service interaction, and Morgan's invoicing. First Rate. 5 stars. P.S. Had an issue with a laptop after a windows update. Called and had a good conversation and plan to sort out what is and isn't happening. Dropped it off and was told to wait at least 3 weeks or pay a rush charge to look at it now. 3 days later it's ready. When I asked what issue and resolution was, the person only spoke in techno-babble about device drivers, memory issue this, motherboard that. Somewhat technical, I had checked all of those things before calling and asked for details... the person I talked to on the phone walked over and said "one of the hdmi adapters I used to split the monitors was bad - it was swapped and is running fine." The laptop is fine and I haven't had any more issues but this place seems really shady - beware of their rush charges and techno babble. read more

Microsoft in their infinite wisdom "upgraded" Windows 10 on my laptop and like most upgrades it made everything worse. I couldn't find my documents pictures and so on. I took it to ReCompute and got all restored and cleaned the next day. read more

Since I'm no longer married to my desktop support person, I learn as I go, but sometimes a girl just needs someone to do it for her. I got tired of asking for favors from friends and was lucky to be referred to Dave at Re-Compute! I told Dave what my technology issues were and we set an appointment. Dave was very conscientious! He got to work right away setting up my new router. He tested my printers and other devices to be sure they were still working before he called the job done. Then I remembered to tell him my video cam wasn't working. He fixed that right away too. Then he tackled all my cables. I had bunches that weren't being used that needed to be removed and the others tidied-up. He quickly stripped out the old cables, inserted a power supply in an inconspicuous location and voila -- no more dangling wires! I was also having problems with my TV antenna. I had one that wasn't working. We messed with it for awhile, but nada. I also had a new antenna to try if that were the case. It didn't work either. We determined the problem must be within the TV jack so I abandoned the antennas until I get a new TV. Dave was very sensitive to the time he was spending -- all total it was only 1 1/2 hours. I GLADLY paid him and he told me to call if I had ANY questions or problems. I am so happy with Dave's abilities, work ethic and demeanor that I HAD to write a review. This place is a repair scam at its finest. I went in with a disconnected four prong female connector. I was told the entire motherboard would need to be replaced and it would take 4-5 days just to start on it, and they'd likely have to order from overseas. I went to platinum repair instead and got it back in a day and a half. Not only was the piece not requiring a replacement, the motherboard and internals were undamaged. It was a simple soldering job. Don't go here for repairs, especially if you even appear to be unsure of your computer parts, they'll go for every penny. read more

I was having trouble with my Wi fi connection as it would no longer communicate with my Panasonic Television. Additionally my PC continually dropped off line. I contacted Spectrum cable and after much effort on their part, could not solve my problem. I contacted Panasonic who was unable to correct the issue. Re- Compute came to my house and within one hour my issues were resolved along with other minor issues. After checking all my devices with what I thought was some kind of magical equipment, Dave replaced my router and reset all of my connections (which would have taken me hours or longer if I tried to replace the router myself). Dave with Re-Compute is the nicest, easiest to work with computer services specialist ever. On the afternoon before a sold out weekend at an area hotel, the hotel lost all internet throughout the property. This weekend just happened to be the same weekend that the hotel's IT specialist was out of town. I called Re-Compute to see if there was anyway that they could fit us in because we had no other way to fix this internet issue. Matt took down my name and phone number and said their schedule was full for the afternoon, but that he'd contact the owner, Dave, and see if they could fit us in. Less then five minutes later, Matt called me back and said that Dave agreed to come and he would be there in a few hours. Dave showed up to the property and immediately found the issue. He ran to his shop, got a new router, hooked it up, and had internet back to the hotel after I spent five hours on the phone with our IT provider and Spectrum, but still had no internet. As the manager of a local business, I highly recommend contacting Dave and/or Re-Compute for any technology needs. Dave not only was personable, friendly, and extremely helpful, but I could tell that he sincerely cared. As a business owner himself, he understood how important it was for us as a sold out hotel to get our internet back up and running. Additionally, Dave came to the property at 6:30PM and stayed until after 8:00PM to ensure everything was working properly. Dave corresponded with our IT specialist, too. Finally, I would like to mention that Dave did all of this for us when we had never even worked with him before. Dave came and provided fast, top quality service all with a friendly smile. I truly cannot thank Dave enough. I also cannot say enough good things about him. Thank you Matt and Dave for all of your help on a very stressful night. I and the hotel will always refer anyone with computer and/or technology needs to you! Thank you again for everything that you did for us yesterday. We are sincerely grateful. Once again, I found myself needing assistance with a computer. I dropped my laptop and it wasn't salvageable, except the harddrive. Bought a new computer and took it straight to Re-Compute, even though the store I purchased from offered to transfer the information and set me up. MY last dealing with these people was mid 2000's when they were on main street. I had a monitor I didn't need someone I was helping brought in as 'payment'.... to help with things. It was a big hitachi that at the time had some value they told me and that they would pay me something if I brought it in so I figured 'better than landfill' and brought the heavy thing down. They said "ok well we'll have to test it first, check back". Allrighty.. and I came back in a few days and asked and 'oh yeah it worked fine'. Well..are you going to pay me something for it? "OH no we can't pay anything for it" As the guy who had told me he would pay for it slipped off in the background into hiding. Since that time I've deliberately taken on repair jobs for friends that I would have referred to them. I mean that is creepy as all get out. I would have taken 5 bucks. If that's all your reputation is worth, then I think it's best to deal elsewhere. Now here I am taking 10 bucks worth of my time to tell people. read more

I won't take my computer anywhere else and travel an hour just to drop it off when it needs servicing.

Two days ago, I contracted a virus while surfing the web. My computer crashed and would not restart. I still have my operating system disc, so I wiped the hard drive clean and re-installed Windows XP. But when the computer restarted, I couldn't access the Internet or listen to my music. At least two important drivers were gone. The next morning, at 9:00, I called Re-Compute. I described my dilemma and they said I could bring my computer to them or have someone come to my house. As I had the driver problem and a couple of smaller issues (my computer didn't recognize my all-in-one as a scanner), I asked for the house call. The tech was here promptly at 10:00. He was very polite and solved all my problems in less than an hour. He even created a "Drivers" folder on the desktop and recommended I copy it to a flashdrive for future use. How cool was that? Total cost for the house call $75. Worth every bloody penny. And by the way, that's half what Gateway's representative--on the other side of the world, naturally--wanted to charge me since my computer is out of warranty. I hope I stay virus-free for the rest of the time I'm in Bozeman, but if not, I now know who to call. read more

My HP home computer was slowing down and one day some scam popups popped up. I took it in to Recompute because of their good reviews and now I get a chance to add another one! James and the guys there were quick, knowledgeable, honest and I was quite surprised at the price, a lot lower then I expected. I highly recommend this company and now consider them my computer Dr's. I needed to replace a fan and get my computer disks restored and it cost way too much and I had a really bad customer service experience. The guy at the counter did a really good job of ignoring me when he was taking down information for my service ticket. They needed to buy the computer fan from their distributor and it only came in two packs so they wanted me to buy both fans and then let them keep the other one... I made them give me the second fan, that they had forced me to buy and sold it on eBay. On an earlier occasion I bought a laptop charger from them for $125 and found out later that another charger that fits my computer only costs $40 at staples. I'm never going there again. These people have awful customer service and are conniving price gougers. Go to Gadget Fix instead. Those guys are really nice and have reasonable prices. Recompute sucks real bad. read more

My son took his Apple laptop here because he was having issues, it would shutdown during operation. First, they did not disclose that they were not an authorized Apple service provider. Initially, my son suggested to them that it might be the HD cable that was malfunctioning. They told him that was unlikely and proceeded to pursue a series of much more expensive options. They charged him $250 and said everything was working properly when he picked it up (he now knows to try and turn it on BEFORE he leaves a repair shop). He tried to use it when he got home and it had the same problem - shutting down during operation. He took it back and they said they could not find a problem. They did refund all but $80 that they charged him. He brought the unit home to us and I took it to a local Apple service provided I use for my equipment. As soon as I forwarded my son's description of the problem, they new what the issue was - the HD cable was bad. Apparently, Apple had issued a recall on this and all work and parts were free so NO charge at all. $0. They also said that whoever worked on the unit was a 'butcher'. The inside components and keyboard were filthy. They took no pride in their workmanship. They may be fine for MS products but I think that they were dishonest in not telling him they were not an authorized Apple service provider. If they had contacted Apple they would have known that the suggestion my son offered regarding the HD cable was accurate but, they would not have been able to make the repair since they weren't authorized. So they baked some other more expensive, and useless, repairs up and served them to him. read more

I Was having internet problems with my hp laptop after an upgrade to windows 10. They were able to get the networking going again the same day and helped me understand what went wrong. They were even nice enough to help me out at no extra charge a week later when I had more questions about windows 10 functionality. RIP OFF!!!! Re-Compute charges outrages rates for computer repair. They have a base price of $125.00 but sometimes they will charge up to $250 for Virus Removal. They also sell used computers for $400.00 when you can go to Costco and buy a new one for $300. Market price for computer repair in Bozeman is $70.00. I just hate when I see some poor senior getting taken advantage of by these guys. Do your self a favor and look to other bozeman business for computer repair. read more

These guys really came through for me. I was trying to transfer my iTunes library over from my old external hard drive to my new wireless one, and kept running into numerous issues, including a very slow router speed. When I touched base with them, I happened to mention that I was also interested in getting my hard drive to work more efficiently as it appeared to be taking longer than necessary to load different applications. Dave was very helpful and informative. He pointed out that I was in first stages of hard-drive failure and that my computer battery was about to go, and he was successful in transferring all the data from the old external hard drive to the new one, so while I only contacted them for one specific issue, Dave and Re-Compute were able to save my computer and me some money. Even more amazing was when I ran into trouble in getting my iTunes to recognize the new location, he helped me with a remote session, and has touched base with me since then to make sure it transferred properly. These guys are professional, up front, honest and reasonably priced. I highly recommend them when you're looking for computer maintenance and upkeep, as well as any tech questions. read more

The good thing about Re-Compute is that they stock many parts that you can't get anywhere else in Bozeman. The bad thing is that they know it, and set their prices accordingly. For example, cables that cost $5 from monoprice.com, sell for $20 at Re-Compute. Their used computer prices are often higher than what a new computer would cost at Staples. So, shop carefully. read more

Sold Parts that were malfunctioned, but they would not refund it. Only solution offered was to bring in the computer and they would "fix it" but that would also cost money for parts and maintenance. Staff has little knowledge of building a computer and any hardware related issues. Overall very frustrating and better of just finding the parts and solutions online for much cheaper. read more
