As a long time customer of Ray's and even their original Saigon Retaurant..., I have been a regular for years... The owners and staff are very friendly even when it gets busy (which is most of the time). Arguably the best fried rice in town... there is just something about it... it has a unique and addicting flavor. Try it with the curried option and fuget about'it... it's delicious. Now, this is a story all about how My foodie palate is much happier now That I've found this place of Ray's, so just sit right here I'll tell you how Ray's is the king of Vietnamese fare In south Vietnam, I lived for almost a year Spoiled by the food that's not easy to make here Noodles and pho and fresh veggies to eat A spicy type of flavor that's so hard to beat Whence upon my return to the U S of A I lamented the loss of the food I had each day Then one night I went to a place on Spenard I saw it, I loved it, I fell for Ray's hard! The place is only open for five days a week So sometimes finding parking isn't always on fleek But if you can manage to find yourself a spot You know you've arrived at a place that's real hot Quick service, yo this is great People say "Welcome!" and you don't have to wait Unless the place is crowded, cause it usually is But it's totally worth it, you know it's the shizz You gotta know that the food is really all that Honestly the place for the Yelping cool cats I do think so You'll see when you get there I hope you're ready for the king of Vietnamese fare Well, their options are many, as you will see They'll even make things vegan if you're "animal-free" I highly recommend you try Hue beer Straight from Vietnam, it's almost like you are there! You might need to whistle for a cab cause when you are done You'll have so much good food, you'll weigh close to a ton If anything I could say that this place is so rare Cause you know what I say -- this is the number one fare! You can't go wrong with whatever you choose Everything is great -- you really can't lose Behold, the true kingdom of pho and curry What are you waiting for? Go to Ray's, and hurry! read more

The food here is delicious, exotic, bright, and the perfect balance of spice. It's almost like a fusion between Thai, Vietnamese, and Indian. It is definitely a place that takes your palate beyond the pho. Tonight I tried the combination fried rice with curry, the five star chicken, and the tamarind pork! Wow! I feel like I've been transported to south east Asia. read more

Food was good...not the best spring rolls I've ever had, but good. The Pho was delicious, not to salty like some places I've been to in the past. I would definitely give the Pho 4.5 stars. Appearance/environment: The place was interesting....would recommend a cleaning of the window sills and removing the items that looked like someone was hoarding behind an unusable bar - weird. read more

We arrived 10 minutes before dinner service...by the time the doors opened, a small group of a half dozen other vehicles and a few patrons were waiting. We were seated right away, ordered the shrimp rolls. Crispy egg roll wrapper around single shrimp, approx 8-10pcs. We each ordered the beef Pho soup...simple, good, served with fresh cilantro and sprouts, I added garlic chili paste from table top. Round 3 was the Tamarind beef and Tamarind shrimp. Both mild/medium spice...loaded with veggies, a bit light on the protein, but would definitely order again! Service was very good, water glass and soda always filled... read more

This was my second visit to Ray's and I can't wait to return. My friend and I shared 2 dishes: lamb curry and pork saute noodles. Both were delicious. The pork saute had lots of vegetables and a generous helping of egg noodles and sauce. The lamb curry was outstanding and was chock full of potatoes and lamb. The sauce had the perfect amount of "heat". Next time I'm ordering a dish with those yummy looking fat noodles! read more

I LOVE their combination fried rice! There's something in it that is just positively delicious.. maybe the combination of slightly crunchy rice and seasonings? The crepes are great too.. lots of good veggies. I also like the sweet and sour shrimp... the sauce is super sweet with perfectly cooked veggies and shrimp every single time. The service can be a little slow sometimes, but it's worth the wait! I try and go early for lunch or dinner to beat the rush. The owners are fantastic, friendly and always smiling. read more

Im not sure what the big hype is about this place...... Some may agree with me, but most will PROBABLY disagree. Personal opinions: 1) Beef Pho: I really like the broth, but the meat is always SUPER tough and hard to swallow down. Probably because the meat is always chunky and not thinly sliced. 2) Combo Fried Rice. One word: DRY. But it was quite delicious but i would probably add some olive oil into it and run it through the microwave or something..heh. 3) Spring Rolls: kindof skinny rolls but very lengthy. I wish they had some bomb peanut sauce.. read more

I had been to Phonatik this week and liked it a lot but wanted to try a more traditional Vietnamese place while I'm in town. It feels very classic inside the restaurant and they have a pretty solid alcohol selection. I got the Spicy Chicken with Cashews and a small vegetable pho. The chicken was delightful. I really enjoyed the flavors and all the veggies that come along with it. The Pho was good too. I love when it comes with several different types of vegetables, not many places do this unfortunately. I did add some hoison and sriracha to enhance the flavor a bit. I also got a glass of the plum wine to finish the meal off and I'm content! read more

I so love the service as well as the great food that. This family run restaurant is the best and I think it is the epitome of quality hospitality & food service. We heard Ray's was the best Vietnamese food in town. Maybe so, but we had to remind ourselves we were in Alaska. Not quite authentic. Food: pho, some rice dishes. A few cold noodle dishes. I had beer duck which was good, but a bit salty. Also had the the pork chops which were pork cutlets in a Vietnamese-style sauce with lemongrass. Food was good, but nothing spectacular. Good portion size. Drinks: wine, beer. No bubble tea. They did have Vietnamese coffee. Ambiance: Asian decor. Mix of booths and tables/chairs. Customer service: good. Multiple waiters with good service. One thing I didn't like - they pushed the dirty cart around to tables to collect dirty dishes. Just take the plates to the kitchen please! Parking: extra lot with plenty of spaces. Nice bonus. I'm not sure if there are any other good Vietnamese places in town, but a place a little more authentic would be great. read more

The employees are very sweet and nice. Otherwise I was less than impressed. The pho broth was not bad, it's okay, a little salty. The Vietnamese coffee is pre-made and had a weird taste that I cannot explain. I didn't come out in an individual french press over a cup of condensed milk. We did not finish the 2 orders of coffee. The Banh Xeo was bland, the pancake was cooked on its own then had cabbage, chicken, and shrimp thrown in. I've never had cabbage in banh xeo growing up, when visiting Vietnam or in other restaurants. I should have meat, shrimp, herbs, onions, bean sprouts, and flavor. read more

First time here, heard it was really good. Had combination fried rice it was excellent! I'll come back and work my way through the whole menu read more

Had lunch of small bowl of beef pho and roast boneless duck in beer sauce, shared with a friend (who also had small bowl of pho). Pho was good. The duck was overwhelmed by the soy sauce-based sauce. Couldn't taste a hint of beer and could not enjoy any taste of duck. I don't recommend this dish. read more

Got a large beef/chicken pho. True, beef was a little chewy, but overall noodles and broth was okay. 3 stars for the pho cause beef pho was just sliced beef . No choices of the type of beef you want like rare steak, beef brisket, tripe, soft tendon, etc. read more

Ray's Place - Beef/chicken Pho. Thumbs up on pho - Vietnamese Near Me - Anchorage, Alaska

Great place for some Vietnamese cuisine. The beef noodles are excellent. The teriyaki beef steak is excellent.

Just got back from a week of vacation. As I'm the only one that likes Pho, we finally went to dinner at a Vietnamese restaurant at our last night in Alaska. Since this place is on the way towards the airport, and it had decent reviews, thought we stop by to give it a try. I ordered the jumbo size beef/meat ball pho, and we also had chicken and vege, chicken sate stir fry noodle, and salmon. First off, all the food were very salty. The salmon was dry and overcooked. Tasted like leftovers where you would just heat it up and cover it with extra sauce. The other 2 chicken dishes were OK. But the main reason I came here was for the pho. When they brought over the bowl, it seemed big, but it was mostly soup, as in watered down soup. Pho soup has a unique flavoring that's unlike most other Asian noodle soup. In this case, I just got lots of soup with little noodles, meat, etc. Speaking of meat, I had both the meatballs and beef. The meatball was not bad, but the beef was tough and chewy and had lots of fat in them in many of the smaller pieces. Looks like these are just scraps of leftover meat that they would throw in the soup. Again, it's not the typical pho I came to expect. Service was decent, but the owner must've brought his family over as his kids (2 or 3 little girls) were sitting just 10 feet away, and they were loud the whole time. Now, I have 3 kids, so I know how kids are, but having your own kids there at a business establishment instead of paying some babysitter is just not right. Bottom line is that I didn't care for the excessive watered down soup that didn't even tasted like pho at all. read more

Went to Rays Place based on my sons recommendation and those on Yelp and was not disappointed and have only but great things to say. My wife had the Spicy Duck, son-the Sweet and Sour Duck and I had the Seafood Curry. I also order a serving of the Fresh Rolls based on another review. My wife isn't crazy about spring style rolls and the server offered up to swap one out for an Egg Roll, no worries, no extra charge and all cane fresh and we all LOVED them. Great Starters. The entrees were also crazy good. I loved my Seafood Curry and almost finished it but even my "inner glutton" cried "uncle", it was a big bowl of big taste. Superb. Likewise the two Ducks could not be fully consumed and came back in large cups (very juicy, all of them). Great sticky white rice as well and we all love "sticky rice". It all ends with a tasty chocolate peppermint patty and that beats a fortune cookie any day! Bottom line:We all loved it and I suspect you will too BP read more

Well I've always said it and I'll say a million more times, Rays Place is THE PLACE. Ray's has always been a place where I can find delicious, authentic food and a peaceful atmosphere. Rays place is a hidden gem, at an affordable price. Looking for Pho, Fried Rice, Cold Noodle Salads, Bahn Mi's. Rays Place really has it all when it comes to Vietnamese options. They also have a nice assortment of beer, which is really the perfect compliment to this type of food. My girlfriend and I ordered 2 small beef soups(pho) and shared an order of combination fried rice cooked in curry sauce. Along with 2 icy bay IPAs, I believe our bill was under 35 bucks. It's a family run staff, very friendly. If you're by yourself they have a bar side, which usually has a sports game on, always a nice touch! read more

Every time I eat here this place tastes worse every time the quality is bad. They need to do better quality control.

This is a cute little hole in the wall/mom and pops type of restaurant. It's a family owned business that's been around for YEARS. The family is so welcoming, so friendly, and they treat you like one of their own! If you're looking for a place to eat, make sure to check this place out! There's nothing more convincing than an actually trying the food! Every time I've come here I've never been disappointed with my meal. A few of my favorites are the tamarind beef (beef sautéed in a sour spicy sauce. Served with rice and veggies) and the beef salad (marinated, sautéed beef over a spring mix with their housemade dressing SOOOO GOOD). I'm sure you're the type of person to look at photos and judge where you go based off of that, just trust me on this and go inside. Not only is their food delicious, it's affordable, their restaurant can accommodate large parties, and your food will be served in a timely manner. read more

My good friend took me to Ray's today and the usually nice, woman manager yelled at us!!! Well, she yelled at my friend - an elder Native woman. She asked for spring rolls and then asked how much they were in her quiet manner. The lady said, "$6" and my friend looked at me and I shook my head "no" we don't need them but my friend said, "yes, let's get them, might as well." They never came. NO BIG DEAL. We knew we had been ambivalent. When our meal came my friend quietly asked the waitress (a different one), "I thought we ordered the spring rolls too?" I said, "Ah nevermind - we have a ton of food here" and my friend said to the woman, "Yes, that's okay. If they are back there we will take them but if not, nevermind." My friend is quiet and tactful. We start to eat after a prayer because my friend does that when we eat out. Here comes the manager, flying at us, who took our order. She gets in my friend's face, points and yells so loud in the packed restaurant that the place went dead quiet. She points at my friend and says, "You said the spring rolls were too expensive and you didn't want them!!! That's what you said!!" and she storms off. My friend and I sat there looking at each other speechless. My friend shrugs and says, "I guess she's under a lot of stress." Since I was with my very religious and quiet and well-behaved friend I didn't go after her to tell her to meet me in the parking lot.... I have never had anything but good, friendly service up until this day. The food was good (and I am sure glad it was brought out BEFORE the erruption by the manager or I'd have been scared to eat it) ...I'll never go back. That was so embarrassing. And my friend took me there as a "special treat". She will no doubt pray for her and forgive her because that is how she is. So will I but I still won't go back. read more
