Familia is inside anchorage brewing. They are spendy. But they have unique creations of food. Follow them on social media to see their never ending rotation of delicious food.

Took me entirely too long to give this place a try (SHAME ON ME FOR REAL). It was better for my wallet though because the food they serve here is right up my alley. I'm writing this review as I wait in line to try their newest creation. The 3rd meal I've gotten from here in a 5 week span so you can say I'm slightly obsessed. I agree with Andrew H on the friction process. They're only open 3 days a week (Thurs-Sat). Start serving at 2pm, and end at 8pm. They've now extended their Friday & Saturday hours to 10pm, which is awesome. I love ABC, but am rarely just at this brewery by happenstance so I've actively had to come check out Familia's food. The food here is expensive for a pop up kitchen, but given the quality of the ingredients they utilize & the intricacies of their dishes I do understand the cost. Portions are definitely going to be more on the Conservative scale. I do get filled up from their meals though! I love the concept of a weekly rotating menu. As a person who enjoys trying new things this concept really excites me. Seeing their weekly social media posts is a big ol hit of dopamine for me. Because of their rotating menu I've patron them so frequently in such a short time frame. As far as I am aware they're the only restaurant in Anchorage that executes this dining concept. I've tried their bao buns, bison sliders, and now waiting for my seared Ono noodle bowl. Everything I've eaten from here has been delicious. The presentation is impeccable, and the ingredients are good quality. They also source a lot of their stuff locally from small farms, and growers. Familia does a great job being innovative and creative with their menus. They are definitely worth a try especially if you are someone who is into food presentation!

Familia is part of a new trend in dining that's happened during COVID which I will term: high-quality, high-friction. High-quality because the food is more like that one food geek you know that throws the elaborate BBQs, dinner parties, and cook outs (despite what people not from the south might tell you, a "BBQ" and a "cookout" are two VERY different things) that you wish you were invited to. They often also specialize in just a feel items, done incredibly well. High friction because ordering or obtaining the food usually requires a lot more "homework" for the diner than a "normal restaurant". There are hoops to getting the food, you will have to jump through said hoops. Familia's food quality is very high. We got a beef noodle bowl and it was unequivocally the best version of this food I've ever had. A great balanced of sweet/salt/umami and even spice. (rare for Anchorage) The price was also high, nearly $20 for a bowl, ouch. Onto the friction: Familia is located inside Anchorage Brewing Company. If you're drinking tasty brews inside ABC, I'd imagine the process is frictionless. If you're like me, and don't feel cozy dining inside until you get your second shot of Maderna, it's a little bit more involved: First: make sure it's Friday or the weekend, they don't do weekdays. Second: go to their Instagram (@familia.ak) and see what they have. (their dish changes every week_ Third: if you're getting takeout, call them on their phone or walk into ABC and order. Their website looks like you can order from it, but it hasn't worked the 3 times I've tried it. Some will think I'm mean for only giving some of the best food I've had 4 stars, and that's fair. Reasonable people can and should disagree, but, for me, the friction of the process rubs off one of the stars.

I've been to Anchorage Brewing for a beer a couple times and recently tried the poke bowl that cost $24! LOL it wasn't anything special and mostly just tasted like mayo and sesame oil. Plus they culturally appropriated the term kimchi by calling the pickled garlic "garlic kimchi"

Pork dumplings... There were six but I was so excited to try it (smelled good) that I stuffed one in my face first)

I was excited to find this place! Granted it took a little figuring out. Situated within Anchorage Brewing Company is this little pop up that's here Fridays and Saturdays. Due to COVID, they're currently not doing online orders but are here cooking up a storm. The broth is totally 5 star worthy, soooo flavorful that I drank it like soup! The pork filling was good although a little sour?...so more 4 stars but I would've kept it at 5 star rating if it wasn't for the price! Yowsers! $16 for 6 dumplings O.O that's crazy! But I wasn't going to turn back now! I bought a cookie from the bakery next door to ensure I had enough calories... Gal working said usually they have a different menu every weekend and to look on their Facebook or IG (website only had an address and a cell phone that no one picks up =\) I am still intrigued at what else they have to offer, even at this price point (I really want to try the shredded pork bowl on their site!) so I'll be back!

Fuck me up Familia. Excuse my French, but I always knew this place was bomb. Forgive me for finally making my way here, just today. We arrived on a Friday afternoon, shortly after Familias 2pm opening. Todays dish was garlic shrimp noodles OR mushroom noodles. We ordered the garlic shrimp noodles with chili sauce, I believe it was. So ono! Lots of flavor, seasoning was generous. The noodles were near Al dente (not slimy, how I prefer), and this is coming from someone who's never tried Pho because I'm THAT picky about my saimin texture). I plan to come and support more often. I love that the owners are a couple. A beautiful couple at that. The best food is food made with love and I can taste it. I'm so grateful. Till next time Familia!

Still DEFINITELY 5 Stars! Added bonus: they're open Thursday nights, too! Check their Instagram page for their pre-fixed menu.

The most amazing and unique food. Love that they have vegetarian option and all their fish dishes are a win. A must try!

Always look at newest reviews!!!…read more We saw the 4.4 red stars and thought this was gona be an amazing place. The first red flag was 1pm on week day and there was only 3 parties in the place. The one and only server was very nice, but being the only one, twice when new parties entered he would walk away. Wife ordered chicken katsu rice plate. The overall theme is everything is bland. EVERYTHING.. Her cabbage slaw/salad had a white creamy sauce, my best guess is mayo mixed with ranch but only if both was every kind of free there is, fat, sugar, carb, keto, and most importantly, taste FREE. Her rice was purple, there were purple chunks, not sure if it was potato, the rice was mushy, wet, and Bland. Her kutsu sauce was made from the same everything free ingredients. Come on man, Kutsu sauce is 3 ingredients and all three are bold flavors, how do you mess that up. But ok, they want to be fusion, maybe add some cilantro or chili. She asked for soy sauce and salt to try and add some flavor. Half way through she has me hold out my hand and pours a handful of the "salt" from the shaker. It was not salt granules, almost looked like a salt substitute. I honestly don't know what it was but when I tasted it I would be extremely generous by saying I got a 25% salt flavor. Normally, you put 2-4 tablespoons of salt in your hand and lick your finger, when you taste that, you get a powerful punch in the mouth of dam, that's salty. I was dumbfounded, if they are using that "salt" to cook with them makes since why everything is so bland. I don't want to repeat the Bland Bland Bland theme over and over. I had bulgogi, kutsu, and BBQ chicken tacos. I will skip to the end- yep, you guessed it, Bland. We did have the bulgogi egg roll, I do want to touch on this only because I was so mad at myself once we left I dug Into the reviews. These are one of the most positive commented items, BUT those comments are from over a year ago. Overall, 11$ for two small egg rolls cut in half is ridiculous. Then if you bite/taste just the egg roll, there is a 5% taste of bulgogi sauce. Which again is so explosive of a sauce. But, If you drown the egg roll in the creamy mild sriracha sauce then the egg roll is ok. If you forget what it should taste like and just concentrate on how did they make the sauce with no heat, then you could get at least a 2-2.5 star. Server deserves 5 stars, Food deserves 2 stars.

I like their menu because it has a good variety, and the food is pretty solid overall. The dine-in service has generally been good, and the restaurant itself looks clean, modern, and comfortable. That said, the takeout experience has almost always been on the slower side throughout the years, so that is one area I think they could improve. Still, Phonatik is one of the better pho restaurants in Anchorage. I really think they have a lot of potential, but they may need to step up their game a bit to become truly outstanding.

Interior is modest, simple, and felt clean enough. Our table had hoisin sauce, sriracha and a pot of chili oil. There was oil on the underside of the pot of chili oil though, which was a cleanliness issue. Our family got the all shrimp fresh rolls, a seafood pho, a mixed beef pho and a small kid size chicken pho. We also tried the hazy IPA beers on tap. Notes on the food: the rolls were okay. The peanut sauce was a touch too thick and lacked dimension in flavor. Ingredients inside the rolls were fresh but would've been improved with a little mint, basil, or other fresh herb. Seafood pho was decent, but I longed for a fish ball, fish cake, or other item besides the imitation krab. I picked out the squid because it was too chewy. Our server was cheerful and pleasant, and parking was super easy just outside the front door. Might be back if in the area but I think will continue my pho search elsewhere next time that pho craving hits.
