This place is a bit of a best kept secret in Anchorage. Its one of the few places in town you can still get a quality burger for well under 10 dollars, they even have "fancy burgers" like the outstanding Teriyaki burger I had for only 9 bucks. It was also well presented (see photo.) Fries are extra, but they're the coated ones that most people love and are super bad for you. Very tasty. I suspect one if the reasons for the poor ratings is this place is very run down. But as I always say, people really, really need to stop eating with their eyes and taste and smell whats actually going on. This place is spending their money on food prep, not building maintenance. Its clean and the folks are friendly. And oddly, even though its steps from the airport, it has a very small hometown blue collar feel. The menu appears to have changed quite a bit over the years. At present it is a split menu- NOT Asian fusion nor pizza. Its all comfort American and Chinese-American favorites. Hotdogs, hamburgers, basic southwest tacos, cheesesteaks and the usual Chinese Amercian Favorites. I definitely recommend, especially if you are on a budget. read more

It's nothing fancy at all, but the service is quick & friendly and the food is good! I like that their burgers are dressed, put together, & wrapped. Their Mongolian beef is tender, tasty, and a good sized portion. The fried rice and fried potstickers are yummy too! I've heard the crab Rangoons are great here, but haven't tried them yet. Like many others I was hesitant to even try this place based on the overall review average. However, the nice thing about being active on Yelp is that you can peep what your trusted Yeeps are saying about a place. And I peeped my Yeeps, and I like what I seen. I do not at all mean this as an insult: it reminds me of the Asian places in Kotzebue. Why: - Ambiance: it's very "trusty rusty" if you're a neat freak, it's probably not for you. - The neighborhood: aviation companies surround it. - The food: it's got various Asian cuisine and then it's also got a bunch of hamburgers. They are not yet "fused" like they are in the trendier/big city restaurants. Having said all that, it's very good food, especially for the price! Anchorage has great Asian food, but not very great Chinese food. Not so here! I got the spicy BBQ pork plate and it was fantastic. Came out quickly, was piping hot and had some of the crisper veggies I've ever had in Alaska! If you're near the airport, but not flying out, this is one of the only places you can eat at. Went here for some good ole comforting chinese food today. The take-out was quick and the women inside very friendly. The food though, the food was fantastic!! I've lived in the area for many years and somehow never found this gem. Maybe because the ratings are so low. I cant imagine why it would have low ratings. Unless your stuck up and have an issue with the retro dining area. OR the regulars are trying to keep this spot from blowing up so they rate it badly in hope's people will stay away. Considering the other reviews I've read before visiting this place, I was tentative on coming down here, but my friend and I decided to stop in for dinner since it has been many years when we last ordered food here (usually for delivery as this is the first time dining at the restaurant). The Fly In Restaurant is an older establishment that is located on Old International Airport Rd. across from the corporate offices of Alaska Airlines (a huge, airplane hangar-type structure) and right next to the airport landing strip where you can see commercial or business aircraft taking off. Getting here can be tricky if you are not familiar with this area, the street can be accessed from Jewel Lake Rd. after passing the International Airport intersection going southbound on Spenard. The road then winds around several hangar and cargo areas for the airlines before spotting the restaurant on the right hand side adjacent to eastbound International Airport Rd. The employees here are friendly and gave us a warm greeting when we came in. We were served drinks fairly quickly and our orders were taken promptly. The Fly In has a wide variety of items on their menu ranging from burgers, sandwiches, salads, Chinese food, and breakfast plates. I decided to go with the Chinese dinner combo plate of Mongolian Beef and Almond Chicken. The wait took a reasonable 10 or 15 minutes, but I suspect it took this long due to the number of to-go and delivery orders that this restaurant receives despite the fact that we were the only ones dining here around 7:45 PM. The Mongolian Beef and the Almond Chicken were absolutely delicious, hot right out of the kitchen along with two complimentary Pot Stickers on the side. The Fried Rice was cooked perfectly with no hint of dryness and just right for a moist texture. (Sorry, low-carb diet). The appearance of the restaurant itself may turn others off. A lot of the chairs, tables, and booths look to have been there since day 1 with some tears and old stains on the booth cushions as well as worn tables and chairs that have been used a lot on a daily basis. However, the place remains a popular dining spot for airport personnel and the surrounding businesses close by. My worries about the place based on the reviews dissolved after the meal. We also had a front row view of the planes with their loud engines taking off right in front of the windows which made the dining experience all the more interesting. I will come back to try their breakfast items in the earlier part of the day. We were fortunate to have a good experience at night and hopefully it will be the same when we visit for breakfast or lunch. Fly In.... Oh my. If you choose to go, that's on you. In June of 1986, my sister picked me up at the airport after I arriving in Alaska and took me to the Fly In (not sure if the name was the same) for a burger. It was doable. My next/last visit was in August of 2018. I couldn't tell if there had been any cleaning done since my first visit. I am ashamed of myself for staying and ordering food. You would think that I would know better. I ordered the fly in Kung Pow Chicken. Mrs. B. ordered a fly in Hamburger. I was amazed at how many fly in entrees they were able to get onto the menu. Neither one of us were able to get the entire fly in lunch into our stomachs. The issue is not associated with portion size but found that the fly in food just didn't set well with us. Great option close to the airport for family with two teenage boys hungry after 5 hour flight, both agreed "best french fries ever" with their sandwiches that were good. Bad customer service. The person serving us had an accent that was so thick we could not understand the lady. The milkshake was terrible. The short ribs were made from what looked like sub standard beef and tasted rotten. Wanted a rebate on the ribs or something and got nothing. The fried rice was also not all that good, the chicken was no good. The only saving grace was the Mongolian beef and the spicy sesame chicken. The pot stickers were pretty good. I have worked next to this place for about 8 years. Never really tried it but I have in a trike crunch yesterday and I did. Let me tell you for $5.50 they make an amazing bacon cheese burger. I'd take it over any fast food joint or most burger places. It will become my new Friday lunch spot. Quick service, they lady at the front is nice. I even went back again today. Based on my last delivery, I'm dropping a star for the Fly In Restaurant. Our last delivery was on time, and it was delivered by the still very nice delivery person, however, the prices had gone up so much that the bill was $10.00 more than was reflected on my take-home menu! That's quite a price hike! I was provided the new menu with the new prices at my front door. In addition to the substantial price hike, the omelets we ordered were smaller than before and the pizza we ordered looked nice, but was skimpy on the toppings we paid a premium for. Except for the jalapenos and tomato slices, the rest were hard to find, including the pricey shrimp. Also, it wasn't by a lot, but Fly In Restaurant raised the delivery fuel charge. Why do I care? Because several years ago when our gas prices were heading toward $5.00 a gallon and there was a hue and cry for state investigation to see if there was price-rigging (by many of the same folks who block all sorts of regulation over industries, and land use, by the way), well, we Alaskans were understanding when local businesses raised their minimum order requirement and implemented a fuel charge. We paid the fee and still continued to provide the delivery people their tips. Since then, however, gasoline prices not only went down, but recently they've been plummeting! These same local businesses didn't remove the delivery service fuel charges when gas prices went back down and we kept paying them, so for Fly In Restaurant to raise its delivery fuel charge when prices are actually plummeting is just bad form and customer unfriendly. Prices shot up, portions were smaller, and the fuel charge was raised. Almost $50.00 for only three orders of diner food, and a total of over $50.00 after adding the fuel charge and tip for the delivery person moved Fly In Restaurant off our list of places to order from very often, if at all. Since we never go to the restaurant but only use its delivery service, the restaurant pretty much lost our business entirely. Disappointing. read more

Prices were really good, but the place is kinda dive-y. The menu is huge! It's a combination Chinese-Mexican-American place. Very interesting. I had curry chicken and was served enough food for 2 meals. Wasn't really sure what all was in it besides chicken, mushrooms and water cress... the curry was also unlike anything I've had before. Very sweet. Someone in my group had a sandwich for like $7 that looked pretty good and came with a lot of fries. Oh and everyone who ordered chinese food got some soup to start with... wasn't great, but not bad. I feel like there is probably MSG in the food but I can't prove one way or the other. Great food, we had a Hawaiian pizza, pepperoni pizza, yakisoba noodles, teriyaki chicken, and egg drop soup. The yakisoba noodles was really good, the pizza was not greasy, everything tasted fresh and flavorful. My husband orders from them on a regular basis at his job for lunch, but this was my first time trying the food there. Delivery was a bit slow but they sounded busy on the phone when we called (a good sign). We will order at home again for sure. I saw some bad reviews regarding service but they also said the food was good. No need to rate them solely on service, I think that's not fair. read more

I had the meatball parmesan cheese hot sub here and let me tell you it was disgusting. I was so disappointed because when I first order from places I try to go with something that I feel should be easy to make right. The bread tasted like it was old bread being reheated and it was drenched in garlic butter that had way too much sodium in it. My sub wasn't hot and fries were stuck together. read more

Last week my sister ordered a couple items from their take-out menu and it was not good! 1st of all, she found a piece of metal in her food, and when she called about it, all they told her was that everything was expensive! Unbelievable! She told the man on the phone that she wasn't calling about the expense of the food, she was calling about what she found. They didn't do a darn thing about her order. When she came back she was rude and told me to look online, however the menu online was incomplete. I called back to place my order and she was even more rude. She said I didn't even have enough for delivery. I added a desert and asked for her name. She refused to give me her name, only gave her managers name and said she was too busy to talk to me. A very old restaurant and could use a makeover, but the food is super great, the prices are very reasonable, and the portions are plentiful. The menu has a wide variety to choose from and they do a great job on all menu items that I have tried. If you are picking something up I suggest calling in your order. They are busy nonstop with call in orders which can slow down the process of making your own order if you stop by for dining in or out. This place is not for the person driving a BMW, but us that drive a Chevy would like this place. So, even if you drive a BMW or a Moped, the food tastes GREAT, just don't go here for your first date! read more

I have only ordered using their delivery service. The hot food ALWAYS arrives hot and faster than I expect. (If you order Chinese food, I highly recommend upgrading to the chicken fried rice. +$2.00) The salads ($9.95), BLT ($4.25) and Club ($5.50) sandwiches are fresh and large.
