Trivia: Baechu-kimchi is the most common type of kimchi and its primary ingredient is what type of cabbage? I can't wait to taste the side dishes again. So tasty, so fresh. But the macaroni salad...weird? Or am I missing something? It tasted like run of the meal, store bought macaroni salad. Is it for the non fermenters? Cause that ain't me! Those fermented side dishes were the stars, until the bibimbap came out. The clay pot was more a large plate, but it was HOT and it made the rice exactly like I like it: crispy on the bottom and soft on the top. All the accoutrements were tasty and blended well with the rice and sauce. I wasn't sure what each of them were, so I tried a little bit at a time. They all had some unique savory flavors. In the end I mixed them all together for a final flash and bang of flavor. Service was excellent. Maybe the owner, maybe the manager was also seated at the bar and he stopped by at the end of my meal to ask about everything. Friendly and professional. Came in with my family and it smelled very very strongly of fish walking in. It wasn't busy and there were only a few other diners seated but the staff seemed very overwhelmed. We were told to seat ourselves and when we did I was confused if we sat at a dirty table because the inside heat area was visibly dirty looking. Well over ten minutes went by for the server to finally come back to us. That was ten minutes no drink order, nothing. We decided to just leave after that. I can't speak for the food taste but I can tell you that the service felt very lousy. read more

That contrast threw me off a bit. The food was decent overall. Portion sizes were generous for the price, which I appreciated. However, I wasn't impressed with the egg custard--it had an odd burnt BBQ taste that didn't sit well with the dish. After a long busy day we enjoyed a family dinner. I had not been here before, however the hostess made us feel extremely welcome, and explained how to order, as we were a group of five, the meal for five was a good cost and the food made it even better. All looked to be enjoying the meal, and they cook right in front of you. The beef and pork was delicious, and the kimchi fried rice is now my favorite, portions are big so be prepared to take a couple of boxes home. Definitely rates in my top three. read more

Last night my family of three tried K-Pub Korean Restaurant based on a recommendation from a fellow service member. Having lived in Korea for years, Korean food is my favorite and I'd been looking forward to trying this place -- unfortunately it was a big disappointment. We ordered barbecue. The samgyeopsal arrived as a single, uncut square shaped slab that was ALL fat; in all my years of eating Korean food, including while living in Korea, I've never seen it served that way. scissors could not even cut through it. No amount of cooking even made it look appetizing. The beef bulgogi was okay, but the chicken bulgogi came out as a single pounded‑out thigh rather than sliced or prepared in the usual style. The banchan (about six dishes) were bland and uninspired -- the kimchi in particular was pale, soggy, and lacked flavor. Typically, we receive lettuce to make wraps out of our barbecue and did not even get anything like this to eat our meat with. Our server didn't offer drink options and only brought bottled water; I would have ordered an alcoholic beverage and left a larger tip if given the choice. For the price we paid, the food quality and presentation were well below expectations. I won't be returning or recommending this restaurant. On a fluke my husband and I stopped in to have lunch after I packed up my office on my last day of work. From the time we walked in, to the time we left, we felt like family. The servers, attendants and griller were so nice. The food was 10/10 and we absolutely destroyed the shaved sirloin, Galbi, and a New York strip, with all the banchan on the sides. Well worth it. Honest review. There's pro and cons about coming here. Reading the reviews did lower my hopes of this place, but my husband & I had to come here for ourselves. The portion they give you for the price Is reasonable. We had chicken and sirloin. We ordered fried race on the side because we know how much we eat. If you order from the BBQ just know you also get the small sides like seaweed etc. They come around every now & then to cook your meat, but my husband personally prefers to cook on his own. My BIGGEST issue coming here was that I ordered chicken fried rice. When I received the bowl, there was a shrimp on it. I'm allergic to shrimp and I brought it up to the server. She told me there's no shrimp in there. Another server came and said she couldn't see the shrimp until my husband had to pick it up. It wasn't much in there but there was about two-three. She kindly took the dish from us and made a new one. The service was 4/10. We ordered drinks in the beginning and didn't receive them until the end. My husband mentioned it twice. Our straws came one closed and one open. (I attached a photo). We told the server and she didn't understand. We were nice about it and showed her. She brought us new ones. My siblings and I visited for a-la-carte and opted out of KBBQ to get an intro to their flavors before spending base $130 starting. I wanna give them a 2-3 stars since they are newly opened but my food was too pricey for what was advertised to what was actually served. Plus, the wait time to receive our food was awfully long, with us being the only table who were eating a-la-carte. Personally, I didn't care but a Korean couple was seated before us though my siblings and I came in first. Galbi-jjim (braised beef short ribs) 0/5: $35 for 4-5 bones, just bones and literally 2 pieces of meat broken apart, 1 date, zero vegetables, with too much broth to probably offset the fact that they didn't have veggies. The picture advertised mushrooms, carrots, corn and none were present. I was too flabbergasted to send it back. How could they let that out of the kitchen? If they weren't ready to serve entrees and were focusing only on KBBQ they should have only offered KBBQ. Seafood Pancake 2.5/5: They got the crisp on the pancake perfectly but the seafood was not rinsed well. It had a strong fishy taste and not in the best way. Honestly, I'd still go back for it with hopes that the seafood that day is better prepped. Dolsot Bibimbap 3/5: Their side dishes aren't super bold in flavor but are still well balanced and delicious so this dish is an easy 'yes it's good'. But, they were probably cooking new pots of rice and served my siblings bibimbap with way undercooked rice. They gave her a raw egg on her dish when she asked for well done. Does have potential. Japchae 2/5: This dish was on the house because we waited so long for our food to come out. Unfortunately, the noodles were not rinsed well and got glutinous/sticky or they over cooked the noodles. I prefer a more savory, sesame japchae with a hint of sweetness but this one just tasted sweet. Overall, they have things they need to work out. Though the servers all had smiles on and were nice, it can't hold a restaurant from their main purpose, food. The galbi-jjim scarred me so I can't give them more than a 1 star until I go back and try other food. I hope that they'll be able to take these reviews and work towards fine tuning everything. read more

I'm not sure what the max person was before gratuity was charged, but I did see it on my receipt. The place was a pretty good some for a kbbq. I've been in super small ones with about 6 small tables or less. The ahjumma was super nice, attentive, and very knowledgeable. She came over to cook for us whenever she can. I never knew "pork jaw" until she mentioned it. We order the Combo B and I would say it was enough for the 8 of us. We also got korean pancake and beef Tteok-bokki. The ahjimma did say we were all "skinny". Lol. But I ate the most. Lots and lots of side dishes that you can get full from or take home. We did take some meat home as well. We did not feel rushed at all! We stayed for almost 2 hours just eating and talking. This probably the best korean bbq in Alaska. Very spacious and can seat a small or large party with either a 1 or 2 table top grill. My wife and I checked this place out for the first time on a Sunday around 1pm. We were greeted right away and seated without waiting. Order Combo A. We've been to other Korean BBQ in New York, New Jersey, and Georgia. This isn't the best we've had but it is the best we've had in Anchorage. Food is expensive in Alaska period but we were surprised by the portion size. The flavor is great and not overpowering. Very excited to try this place and left feeling meh. The restaurant itself is nice on the inside I think they did a good job with the renovations. Our server seemed in a hurry and was cooking all of our meat at high temperatures burning both our Kalbi short ribs (recommend!) and spicy pork (do not recommend!). When I tried to flip early to avoid burning she came over and took the tongs back from me. I think she was just too much in a hurry. I think this may be a place that is hit or miss based on what you order and who your server is...we also had burned steamed egg which was very unappetizing. Underwhelming is under statement. I hope you don't think this place is a representation of Korean foods. There are so many decent Korean restaurants in the US and this place is not one. I've tried countless number of Korean bbq in my life and this place is by far the worst. High price (even for Korean bbq and for Alaska) and poor service. If you don't know what you're doing, you shouldn't open the restaurant yet or hire someone with experience for a short term for them to teach you how to run things before opening and charging customers. First, the quality and quantity of the foods are horrendous. 7 slices of thinly sliced beef was $35? Two marinated ribs smaller size than my toddler's fist for $43? Are they Wagyu or Hanwoo? $20 for soup that looked half eaten by someone and $20 cold noodles supposed to be slush cold came out all luke warm. Oh and they didn't have any lettuce to make a wrap (Ssam) and I have not been to a K bbq that did not give us any sort of lettuce. Like... should we bring our own lettuce? I know the lettuce in AK can be expensive but so is this restaurant! They could at least have the lettuce in the salad form? The serving size of side dishes (ban chan) were so small in like they were gone in one spoon. The server gave us refills at the end of the meal but still small in quantity. Secondly, the service was not there. When my family entered the restaurant, no one greeted us or even acknowledged that we were there. I would be happy to wait if someone at least asked us to give them a moment. But everyone avoided eye contacts and we were just confused and unsure what to do before someone finally seated us. The servers were all too busy and I had to cook the meat myself entirely. They had issues with the grill on the table not turning on so we were left to stare at the foods for a long time before someone came to fix it. The order that foods were served was all messed up. Our order went to another table and other table's order came to us, so we had to return it back. The dipping sauce came after all the foods were cooked. The cold noodles came out first which usually get served like dessert in many other places. We had to ask for things multiple times before it gets served. We had a toddler with us (2.5 yrs old) and there was nothing for kid prepared. We just got a fork. No extra water cup or extra plate or booster seat. We asked for a cup but it didn't make it before the end of the meal. One good thing is there is clearly someone who knows how to cook in the kitchen. Like kimchi was good. The flavor is there. The quantity and price don't match though. The service is terrible. I wanted this place to be decent so bad for me being Korean and craving my foods time to time. I'm so sad that it was so bad that I don't think it can be saved even with time unless something drastic happens. I wanted to give it a benefit of doubt but it's just so disappointing. Please save yourself some money and try K-BBQ in Seattle or LA. 일단 매니저 급으로 한국이나 엘에이에서 전문가 한분 고용하셔서 서비스 확실히 개선하셔야할것같구요. 돈 많이 내는건 음식만 제대로 나오면 사실 상관없는데 음식 퀄리티가 정말 미국 사람들 보기에 민망할 정도로 염치가 없어서 크게 실망했어요. 맛은 있는것같은데 상추나 상추겉절이 무침같은것도 없고 찍어먹는 소스도 기름장하나 쌈장하나에 기름엔 소금 한두조각 들어가 있고 마늘 양파 하나 없이 기본이 충족되지 않았네요. 간장소스같은거 하나 있어야 될듯하구요. 만약 뭐가 준비가 안됐거나 없으시면 원래 안준다 하지 마시고 그냥 정직하게 "오늘은 다 나가서 없네요 죄송해요 담에 제대로 모실게요" 이렇게 말씀해주시는게 손님도 이해하고 오해도 없어요. 서빙하시는 분들이 굉장히 힘들어 하시던데 차라리 한 사람당 테이블 두세개정도만 정해서 받고 역할 제대로 분담해서 하셔야 될 것 같아요. 한 사람에 두 테이블만 받으면 테이블이 남는데 기다리는 손님은 어떡하냐 하실텐데, 손님 입장에서는 차라리 기다렸다가 제대로 서빙 받는게 나아요. 앞에 호스트 한분 세워두시고 손님들에게 얼마나 기다려야 하는지 웨이트 리스트 받으셔요. 다들 저희 테이블 한번씩 오셔서 찔러보시던데 서빙은 테이블당 메인으로 한분만 하시는게 좋고 그래야 서로 커뮤니케이션 에러가 안생겨요. 그리고 손님들한테 너무 일이 힘들다며 투덜거리시지 않는게 좋아요. 나가면서 가져갈 이쑤시개, 박하사탕 또는 젤리, 명함, 테이크 아웃 메뉴 같은거 구비 해두시면 좋을것같구요 지금 광고도 안했는데 소문듣고 오는 손님들은 전부 한국 음식 좋아하고 큰 기대로 열심히 지켜봤던 사람들이에요. 이 사람들 제대로 못 잡으시면 앞으로 힘들어 질 가능성이 커요. 앞으로 더 나아질거라 믿고 음식의 퀄리티로 승부 보시길 바랄게요. 수고하세요. read more

VERY EXPENSIVE. I think it's overpriced, that's why I'm not rating it more. I lived in South Korea for a few years and this food was so great to compare. But do you know what I also compare? The prices! In Korea this meal would be max $20 per person. My favorite place in Missouri would cost $27 per person with unlimited meat (this was not unlimited). So I feel like the prices rob you a little. I get we are in Alaska, but if cities in the lower 48 still have cheaper 삼겹살 I'm going to complain a little. But I walked away very full. The 된지 찌개 had a little more spice than I was used to; I liked it! The meat was all good, and the server took care of us and cooked for us. She was lovely! The prices are not lovely. When we walked in for Saturday lunch, it was a little empty with few customers. I think they would get more business if they had better prices. Combo A is $140. Combo A should be $30-$40 max. If they lowered the prices, the restaurant would do better and have more customers. The 반찬 was also great. She noticed I had finished most of the kimchi and brought more.
