Slice of cheese ($3)
Kristin Leigh M.

Long live Ray's! I used to visit Ray's once a week about a decade ago; my first office was in the 4199 tower. Just happened to be strolling through University Center tonight and hello Ray's! You're still here! Was going to call in for a slice but convinced my husband to split a small cheese with me. Came out in about ~15 minutes and was fresh, fresh, fresh! Miraculously, we ate the entire pizza then and there (8 slices). They have some nostalgic photos of New York on the walls and also have one of the old school Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles video games that you can still play for a quarter inside. They have some combo specials (two slides and a drink, or a slice, salad and drink, for example) that you can take advantage of. Not quite NY pizza (dough needs to be crispier on the bottom), but a good pizza nonetheless. 2024: 89/100

Cheese slice

Pizza was exactly what I was craving! Made quick and was delicious. Cant wait to go back and try more. Got one cheese pizza and one pepperoni, half mushroom half sausage. Staff was friendly. Ate a slice of each in the car because we couldn't wait .

Veggie Pizza Slice

I initially walked in just wanting to purchase a Diet Coke to go with the wrap I had bought at Trader Joe's, and when I came in I was immediately greeted by the kindest older gentleman I can only assume was Ray himself. He told me he is the older business within the university town center, has been their 38 years and has served countless Anteaters! Now mind you i only went in for a Diet Coke originally but after Ray asked if I wanted a pizza I deliberated and eventually said, 'you know what, give me a slice of the veggie' ... to which he responded "You're gunna love it!" And you know what, I did! I have to commend them on how they cook their crust, perfection... the bottom was perfectly crisp without being overcooked and the rest of the pizza was solid. This is not a gourmet establishment, so don't expect overly fancy pizza, this is for those that are looking for a solid, yummy slice of pizza and a throw back vibe- my kind of place! Not to mention I noticed all the customers he was so interactive, kind, knew their names and treated them like family. I highly recommend :)

NY Italian medium pizza

You can never go wrong with pizza, and Ray's does a great job of sticking to that standard! Their pizza is classic, cheezy, with a thick fluffy crust, and lots of typical toppings to choose from. I would like to think that they has really mastered the basics - which is my gold standard for a restaurant when I'm craving a quality, straightforward pizza. I also tried their garden salad - which wasn't anything special, but I thought was a good amount for the price, and was loaded up with fixings. I haven't tried their pastas, but they looked (and smelled) really good, so I will definetly be back at some point!

Slices fast and easy and crispy!

4 Stars is right for Ray's. If you're hungry for fast slices this is the way to go. Was hoping for awesome sauce or something with a more NY taste but about average on sauce and cheese meaning it's hot. To get that flavor you'd have to pay a lot more it seems these days so this is still a good deal. Good idea to be ready at the register or could end up No Soup for You. Overall got my fill with some really crispy thin slice dough. That's was nice!!!

I usually come here for lunch while I'm at work if I'm in the mood for some comfort food. I could choose any other place at UTC, but Ray's Pizza is my go-to greasy spoon in Irvine. I normally go for the $11 two slices and a soda deal. The pizza is pretty hearty and if you're looking for comfort pizza, this is it. It's good for the price and if you just need a quick bite. Service has always been friendly. It's indie owned so the cooks and staff pretty much know you if you're a regular. The ambience is very much geared at the college students at UC Irvine but anyone can enjoy this greasy spoon. I prefer eating outdoors. Tables are usually cleaned often. Parking is not too hard to come by.

Spicy meatball

One of the best pizzas I've had in OC! Super fresh, flavorful, and you can tell the owner truly cares, such a kind man who takes pride in his business.

The pizza I got was very old and not tasteful at all. When I returned to see if I can get a refund or exchange for something else, the owner did not comply. I recommend just going to blaze pizza instead.

Amazing pizza! The owner is also very kind. The prices are fair and the pizza quality is superb. Very excited to have found this place.

A little pricey but so good. Wish they had options for thicket crust and more cheese.

Parking is easy with the validated structure, and the restaurant's location is beautiful. We were seated right away and placed our drink and food orders. We ordered several appetizers and entrées -- our usual favorites are the calamari, Caesar salad, rigatoni alla vodka, and spaghetti with marinara. Their bread is always delicious. The calamari and salad arrived promptly; the salad was great, but the calamari was only warm and not as crispy as we had requested. Unfortunately, things slipped a bit after that. Our entrées took a very long time to arrive, and only two pastas were brought out -- one of which was the wrong dish. When the manager came by, I clarified what we had ordered and let him know we were still missing a pasta. The remaining dishes eventually arrived and were delicious, but by then the first two people were nearly done eating. Il Fornaio is usually very consistent for us, so I'm hoping this was simply an off night due to the Mother's Day rush.

The extraordinary thing about the Pasta Sisters is that they offer house made pastas, which guarantees a higher price point, but offers unparalleled texture. The spaghetti has a "bite" that you get from a true "al dente" pasta. Their cheese tortellini were incredibly rich and cheesy, but a touch salty. The drawback of this location is that it's a ghost kitchen. You order it online and the order will be ready for you when you come in to pick it up. The location does not have seating, and you eat it at your own convenience. If you live/work locally, then this can be definitely worth checking out. Because I live out of town, I have to enjoy it either in my car, after a long drive home, or at my wife's office; however, I want to enjoy these $20 pastas in a restaurant, with wine and good company. A ghost kitchen is very different than a restaurant experience. I hope they do choose to bring their restaurant to the OC one day.
