We made a reservation the day in advance or 6:30pm on a Friday. We were seated quickly. There's parking in the structure that you can get validated for 2 hours. I ended up getting the burger option with truffle fries on the menu. The burger was delicious. The cheese was exquisite. I opted for Medium well. The ketchup tasted like it was made in house. Definitely scooped some home for the to-go fries. The dessert drink was a nice night cap and truly felt like drinking a dessert. Beware it can keep you up at night. The Espressor Martini has two options. You can have the regular one with Espresso that's a little old and the second is freshly made Espresso which is more expensive. Sadly the Espresso Martini does not come with any coffee beans. The hostess and server knew we were here to celebrate a birthday. Our server sang happy birthday with us which was cute. She also came over to our table frequently so we were never desperate to get attention and were well taken care of. Highly recommend the Tiramisu dessert. Food was mediocre, especially for the price. Hard to blame them when they need to pay Irvine rents. I had margherita pizza and spaghetti and meatballs. The caeser salad and the arancili were not good, but I ate the Caesar salad. The pizza was fine with sweet tomato sauce and decent tasting dough, not sure what they were doing with the seasoning. The spaghetti and pizza dough were both very doughy, spaghetti probably overcooked. The reason this review has 3 stars is the server, I believe his name was Joseph, was the good service incarnate. He constantly checked in by filling our water, allowing him to remove plates when necessary and give us and easy way to order extra things if needed. This place is literally my favorite Italian place I've been to in Irvine. Every time I go here, I leave so happy because the food is fresh and tasty. Their happy hour is my absolute favorite. Delicious cocktails, a huge salad, and pizza with fresh ingredients. The Diavola Pizza was a bit spicier than I anticipated but easy fix by just picking off all the red chilis. Wasn't sure if I was going to like the Caesar salad but the dressing was light and the amount of cheese on top was excellent. The bartenders are super friendly here and I love the indoor/outdoor seating. The interior walls and decor are modern and calming as well. Cute place tucked next to other restaurants and kind of under a parking structure when you walk through the entrance. We are always greeted when walking in and have been regulars here on Mondays. Ellie is our girl that always helps us and has remembered our orders haha I have tried a few varieties of food items here but my go to will always be the burger. Everything else I have tried, I thought was okay. The burger is good and I enjoy what it comes with, see the picture. The garlic truffle fries are delicious and I like that they are thin and crispy. This place looks better in person. I don't think the photos do it justice. It also doesn't seem to get crowded so you'll be fine without a reservation. You can get your parking validated. The pasta is handmade here. The pasta has a little kick but it's not spicy. You can get an espresso martini here but if you want fresh espresso it will be an extra $8. I had a great time celebrating my birthday here. They didn't give me a free dessert but they brought a candle out with my tiramisu. The service was great. Has potential but there were some puzzling misses here. Monaco has a great location with wall that opens up to become a dining patio facing the street. The problem on the night I went was that it was fully open on a December evening without heaters on in the restaurant. At 56 degrees outside and everyone inside with their puffy jackets on, that is not a preferable dining experience. Half Caesar Salad - I was appreciative that there was an option to get half Caesar for $9 instead of the full for $16 since it was only me dining. The romaine lettuce was fresh, the croutons light and airy. The dressing lacked zest and bite (more like a ranch with a touch of caesar flavor) and the diced pancetta chunks didn't work. The preserved ham was chunky and hard, like having cut beef jerky in your salad. It would have worked better without the pancetta or with thin sliced, grilled prosciutto pieces instead. Diavola Pizza - This was tasty as the san marzano tomato sauce, spicy calabrese and black olives worked well. The crust was okay. It was like a cross between NY and Neapolitan pizza, but the crust wasn't bubbly enough on the edges to be a fully neapolitan. This brought out with a pizza stand on a metal pizza pan... But I never received a plate. So I started on my first slice eating over the bar top counter hoping a plate would be brought out but that never happened. Then I tried eating it over the flat pizza pan, but it being on the stand made it too high to comfortably eat. I figured out a solution... After the pizza pan cooled, I took it off the rack and just had that as my plate flat on the table vs. suspended on the rack. The food here is okay, but given the issues mentioned above, it all makes for an awkward dining experience. This is the first time I've had pizza at a restaurant without a plate. Even providing a paper plate like at local pizza joints that T-ballers mob would have been acceptable. There was no one really around to ask for a plate, by the time I could've asked, the pizza would have been fully cold. My server and the seating host were both nice, no issues there, but overall Monaco needs to tighten up some operational things to make this an at least average experience for diners. Stopped by for lunch, since it was nearby the office. The restaurant was clean with simple decor. We have ordered several items to try out. The staff was attentive constantly checking if we needed anything. Beef tartare was tasty. Nicely spiced to spread over the bread. There was a hint of spiciness in the tartare. Chicken Cacio e Pepe had grilled chicken that wasn't too dry, but the over all noodles were a bit drier than I'd preferred. Monaco in Irvine was such a solid dinner spot. We ordered a little bit of everything and every dish hit. The prosciutto pizza with honey was the standout for me. The sweet and savory combo worked perfectly and the crust was done just right. The pepperoni pizza had a slight kick to it which made it more interesting than your usual classic slice. Discovered that there was a new Italian spot in OC so I had to check it out and try their menu! First off, the inside is very nice, clean, and modern chic, and the entrance is right next to the parking lot and Goldfinch/Izakaya Osen. My friend and I got the prosciutto pizza and the canestri all-amatricana, which was like a tomato sauce pasta with bits of pork/pancetta (?). The pizza dough was nice and fluffy, and I like the prosciutto x honey x arugula combo - imo I think the pizza could use more honey as it wasn't as prominent and the prosciutto was overpowering the flavors because it was so salty. Similarly, the pasta itself was decent but was on the saltier side from the pork and I personally think it could greatly benefit from incorporating other seasonings/herbs to enhance the sauce as it is a simple tomato base, but that's more so my opinion as someone who's not a chef. Overall, I genuinely think adding less salt dishes can definitely improve them as otherwise it was a good meal and the service was super nice as well. Love this place already. I came at the tail end of happy hour and got Arancini and Meatballs from the Antipasti menu. Both were superb, so flavorful and so juicy (the meatballs!). We also got Cacio e Pepe with a side of prawns (came on a nice bed of greens). I split an octopus appetizer with my brother and settled on the lamb Bolognese. Octopus ($21) - This consisted of charred octopus with a romesco sauce, broccolini, arugula, almonds and a grilled lemon. The octopus was firm, but lacked any char and the romesco sauce had a very strong tangy flavor to it that overpowered this dish. Still it wasn't bad. Lamb Bolognese ($31) - This consisted of slow cooked lamb ragu with pappardelle pasta, pecorino Romano cheese and basil. It has a slightly gamey taste which I prefer. I definitely felt this dish was over priced even though it wasn't bad taste wise. Overall I thought the food was enjoyable. Located right off the 405 near MacArthur, the space is modern and swanky, with plenty of room to come with a group. I ordered three pizzas, and each one delivered in a different way. The Bianca was a standout for cheese lovers -- a white pie with three cheeses and garlic, thin dough, a nice rise on the crust, and extra crisp on the bake. Packed with flavor and really well executed. The Margherita keeps things classic, and you can taste the quality of the ingredients. Monaco sources from Italy, including San Marzano tomatoes, and that acidity balances perfectly with the creamy buffalo mozzarella. Don't skip the crust, it's full of flavor. The favorite of the night was the Mortadella. Rich, flavorful, and a little more adventurous, with pesto that brings everything together. In a random office building that has some stars also (Sol, Goldfinch, Maldons and Kit coffee), Monaco is a new, fresh spot. Love the decor- excellent choice of colors and bathroom was exceptionally chic and clean. The service was another A+! Our server was attentive and honest with his favorites- which helped a lot! The New Yorker in me appreciated the honesty We ordered the Prawns for apps (they were delicious but had a slight bitterness and the sauce was strange), Nduja pizza (it was okay, honestly), and the lamb bolognese (star of the show), and ended off with a tiramisu (solid). They also comped the parking fees which was always a little treat for me! We found a place to be a little pricey with small portions. Happy hour here is excellent. I steer away from HH food because it's usually so unhealthy, but here you can get amazing salads and feel great about what you're putting into your body. I love the indoor/outdoor tables and we found a spot in the corner where we could hear each other talk easily. I will definitely be back. So far, it seems like this restaurant is somewhat of a hidden gem. I came here on a weekday evening at (what should have been) the dinner rush, but it was nearly empty. I was surprised because it's located right by John Wayne airport and the 405 freeway. My mother had the White Lotus, which my father ended up stealing from her and even ordered another for himself. I had the Old Fashioned which they make with both bourbon and rye whiskey. It was everything I hope for in an old fashioned. Strong, flavorful, gets the job done. I had three of those. All of the food we ordered was amazing but the standouts are their pizza and their spaghetti alle vongole. The pizza is cooked perfectly, with just the right amount of crunch to the crust and the undercarriage. When I come back, i'm coming back for pizza and drinks. There were a ton of cocktails to choose from which is good. For food, we tried the Margarita pizza and the Cacio E Pepe. Unfortunately I didn't love either of them. I made reservation for my Mom and I but got there 30mins easily and they still sat us with no issues. At noon on a Saturday, it's not that busy. Small menu but food was amazing. Burrata - the layers of burrata, jam and prosciutto on a crostini- was just amazing. This was the first thing we enjoyed and my mouth loves me. We did the hamachi crudo. It's good but not great. The pomegranate added to the nice texture. It was a bit vinergretty to me. Sauce was a bit tart. Good overall. Arugula salad, amazing. Campenelle was amazing. Pasta tasted so fresh. We ordered the sautéed mushrooms and had it together campenelle and there's no complains from either of us. It was rich but not overpowering. We had our drinks and was so full that we took almost all the dishes we ordered. We could not fish them at all. Great service from all those from the hostess to our waiter to the gal who brought out the food to us. All very nice and accommodating. It was also a little spicy but we loved the neopolitan style pizza. The Branzino was excellent. Probably one of my favorite places to have branzino. The Shrimp was just ok. This place has such a nice vibe. We were seated in a cozy booth and our waiter was fantastic. We got the spaghetti with red sauce for our daughter. It was basic but the pasta was cooked well. The branzino was good and the lamb shank was so so tender. We also got the trio of gelato, which was delicious, and the tiramisu was perfect. Another new restaurant next to work, woohoo! I was excited and couldnt wait for them to open. I had 2 co workers tried Monaco before I did and they werent impressed. I didnt want their opinion to deter me from trying. I went with a few friends after work. We tried the meatballs, and let me tell you! It was soooo bland! I've never tasted anything so bland and mushy. My friend had to take her emergency salt from her purse to give it some flavor. At this point, we were starting to believe our co worker's opinion about Monaco. Luckily, our entrees proved otherwise. It wasnt like the meatballs we had earlier. It definitely had flavor. I was a bit disappointed in my filet. It wasnt medium rare throughout. We were just glad it wasnt bland and surprisingly, we all finished our food. Service was great. She was attentive and answered all our questions. Oh and the over the Rainbow drink was a great recommendation from our server. A must try! read more
