Great service! My 2012 Ram 1500 Hemi started making a bad ticking sound at startup. I first went to Bellaire Tire and Auto and they suspected broken exhaust bolts. Thank goodness not lifters. They referred me to Rays Electric. Called ahead, brought the truck in, and it got fixed in 2 days despite the fact they were busy. And, at exactly the price range I thought it would be. Allen was patient and answered my questions. No frills, just great service and now my 170,000 mile truck runs and sounds great! read more

I have been taking my truck for years and always a good experience, however, they always tell me that I must go with Chrystler parts for reliable running care when really this is incorrect. This isn't my complaint. The last time I brought my truck in because my driverside light wasn't working, the cruise control broke, and I was getting P0668, P0123, and one other codes due to engine light on. These all deal with the MAP sensor, the trottle body sensor, and the pedal throttle sensor. All of thses were replace and the computer was reprogramed by Chris, due to needing to relearn it's proper voltage single to respond to by opening the trottle to the correct percentage open to let air in. Also working with the Mass airflow pressure sensor. This last part (the reprograming), was done at Ray's, because I can replace a tbps, a map sensor, and the pedal sensor my self, not a hard thing to do. It's having the $2500 OBII special tool to reprogram the car I can't do. I'm told it's my TIPM why the headlamp isn't working and a refurbish one is $1200 from Chrysler or $795. So they "Jerry rig" a relay into my TIPM piggy backing on the one working headlamp they replace the two year old MAP sensor telling me it was miscommunicating with the throttle body position sensor and do nothing about the cruise control. My next stop was inspection As normal the battery was disconnected and one would drive some 31 to 40 miles before it is ready for inspection. I was told they drove most of those miles and had to put $25 in gas. So, I drove another 25 miles to be sure. I go to get it inspect I'm charged but don't recieve the sticker. All is good just need to drive the 31-40 miles to clear so they can read the diagnosis. So, I drive from Sharps Town to Warton, Tx and back. I go to inspection and they slap the sticker on and the very next day it starts stalling and check engine light comes. Then 3 days later in a parking lot on other side of town the truck won't start, but not just won't start it goes into a runaway ignition start and I'm not holding the key. I am just down the road from a Dodge dealership so AAA tows it there. They look at I tell them the history and it turns out itwas the fuel pump! aBut they don't want to touch it because they see the funky wires coming out of the TIPM with a relay and hooked up to the other headlamp. They tell me they do the job that it would be guarenteed and it would probably envolve them damaging other systems and they would have to fix So, the $425 job Ray's charged me gave me a "Jerry rigged" headlamp, and a new MAP sensor to replace the 2 year old MAP and that that fixed my engine problems, but it didn't . I was told that a refurbished TIPM was 795-1200, when one can be found on Ebay for 295! But a bad headlamp is not a diagnosys for a bad TIPM! And my cruise control wasn't even addressed! I'm done with Rays they charge too much, they sell you unesscesary parts, and they create short cuts that are unprofessional and that scares the Dealership mechanics into not gurenteening their work! I called Ray's and left a message telling them that my truck wasn't working! And no phoned call back from them! It's sad Ray is dead and they are tarnishing a once good name. I finally have the new fuel pump and I'm using another auto mechanic's shop to intall it then I'm haveing POTUS in the Rice Village to address any electrical or wiring problems still in the Truck. My next review will be on that experierence. read more

I went there for a "reduce engine power" I just couldn't figure out. They were able to diagnose the issue which was a bad wiring harness come to find out. They repaired the wiring harness and relocated so the issue doesn't pop up again. Let me say that this place is the BEST place for any auto electric repairs. read more

Was recommended by a coworker to give this place a try with my repair. I had a huge spill occur in my vehicle that had locked the steering up. It stained the carpet and my sheets so bad because the product was tomato based. It had gotten so far up the drivers side that it covered machinery to my steering and braking machinery. I worked with both Allen and Chris. Chris was super personable and quoted me over the phone. I was able to turn my car in the same day. This was during the week of Thanksgiving on top of Covid 19. The car was done in less than a week. I have had no further issues do to the car. It's driving as normal. Only issue I had was my drivers side seat was dirty when I got my car back. I had the car detailed prior to turning it into the dealership. Will be investing in seat coverings before I turn my car back into the shop for a future repair. read more

I have used Ray's Electric for 30 years being told at the largest engineering company in the world that this is where we go!! I am always SURE to deal only with Chris, who is much more personable than Alan. Alan overcharged me greatly two different times so refuse to deal with ANYONE but Chris. I was caught in the rain with my electric window down and going to 4 different car places and service stations who wanted to charge a minimum of $150 and wanting me to leave the car 2 days, I tried Chris at Ray's Electric. Chris opened the cover of the door, found a lose wire and reattached it within 5 minutes, not charging me! Another time Chris straightened my crooked steering wheel in minutes charging me only $3! Chris KNOWS cars inside and out! I'd NEVER go anywhere else, EVER. read more

I just came to Houston from Los Angeles. I had an electrical issue with my alternator. I had taken it to three other mechanics and no one could find the problem. I called the Firestone on Bellaire and they gave me the number to Ray's. I had it towed and they found the problem and fixed it the same day. The staff are courteous and everyone is hard-working and professional. He charged a fair price for an excellent job. He is my Houston mechanic for life! read more

They are great at diagnosing electrical issues with any vehicle. I have a 2009 Dodge Ram and is known for electrical problems. It took about one week to fix but it's worth it and their price is reasonable. read more

Tow truck service dropped me off at Rays after my little truck stalled in recent high water. We are from out of town and didn't know where to go. Rays is a real find. They dropped everything to work on my truck and we were on the road in less than an hour. The charges were reasonable . The water damage was explained carefully . I felt comfortable getting back on the road for the trip home to Austin. I highly recommend Ray's and if I have problems again while I am in Houston,I will definitely head for Ray's. read more

This place is great. I feel very comfortable sending my mom over there to have her car worked on. It is good to have a place to send her where I know she will not get ripped off. I usually don't write reviews however reading some of the other reviews I feel it was needed. These guys are wonderful. I was sent here by my other mechanic that couldn't/wouldn't diagnose the engine computer shutting down. 1 Ignition Coil misfired so computer shuts down to protect engine. So They replace one coil, then, at my request I asked to have the other 5 original coils replaced since two had failed last month. They charged $85 per coil when my other mechanic charged $40 PER COIL. Carquest sell the coils for less than $20 each and mechanic shops get a hefty discount from that. Service was very slow, Labor rates appear reasonable but getting ripped off on parts like this really hurt me, Plus they never gave me a price before doing the work like most shops do. I hope to never need these crooks again. read more

I was looking for a new mechanic after the Shepherd Tire and Auto guys sold their business. The people at Ray's fixed the wheel bearing issue I had and I was very happy with that aspect of the service. I also asked them to change my oil since I had recently had an issue with Jiffy Lube not securing my slip plate after an oil change and it coming off on BW8 in evening traffic. I should have asked how much Ray's charged because when I picked my car up and looked at the bill it was little over $120. Now I am fine with them charging that much but if you know that your oil change is much more than what other places charge I think you should disclose that. It was synthetic but $120 really shocked me and for my first visit there I was really bothered by the fact they did not mention the cost. Also, shortly after having my oil changed at Ray's my brand new slip plate fell to the ground in Port Aransas because they did not screw the bolts in properly. You would think that a $120 oil change would at least get you a properly secured slip plate. read more

They left my main belt loose on my car the battery not bolted back down and did not put the guard back on my car. I took it back told him it was the belt Chris said he thought it sounded like a $1,600 time chain or something and he needed four or 5 hours to poke around which I would have had to pay for. It was obviously the belt like I said. i brought it back months later because the belt kept getting louderand they broke something while fixing the belt. I ended up having to pay for two of their mistakes. an extra $150 for the belt and the guard.making an alternater cost a little over $800 at rays. I did not have time to argue the point and I no longer live in Houston so I just paid them.I was happy with their work before. But the last two times I just feel ripped off. There would not have been a problem if they did it right the first time or fixed it the second time I brought it in instead it took three times and cost more money. I will not return. read more

The high beam headlights went out on my 2008 Toyota Avalon. Due to known problems, Toyota had sent out a warranty enhancement. Since my car was past the mileage limit, the dealer quoted me $2,900 to fix the problem. Ray's made the repair for $175. Ray's came highly recommended from my auto mechanic. They are smart, polite, and reasonably priced. I have and will continue to use them for all of my auto electrical problems. read more
