Every year I have to get our car in Houston inspected. Every January without fail! This year I wanted it done earlier so I don't have to hurry. John's Xpress service is an amazing place! Today, I was going to try and get the inspection for the registration renewal. I pulled into their always full lot and a guy came over expecting him to tell me to get off the parking area. I asked if they could do a vehicle inspection and to my surprise, he said, "sure, I can do it right now." He told me to go inside and wait for the car to be inspected. In less than 20 minutes, the young man came in and said that my car was ready. I paid for it and was told to check the paper work because there was a minor recall notice on my vehicle. Where in the Houston area can you find a service like that? This is one place that has always exceeded my expectations. They are a wonderful, friendly bunch of efficient hard working people. Not even worth a one star! Went here for a state inspection. The service techs stared and gawked at me the entire time. As a woman, I felt EXTREMELY uncomfortable here. Then once my car was completed, they left my car running with the window down and key in the ignition as it sat in the parking lot with random customers standing around! WTF! One of the guys rudely told me to "come inside to pay." I responded with," if you're done with my car, then let's turn it off!" So I turned it off, took the key and locked it. I took my vehicle in for an oil change and an inspection. The service was quick and friendly; however, they didn't have the right equipment for the inspection and ended up resetting my computer. This meant that I have to drive it 150 miles to get accurate data for it to be inspected. I had taken my vehicle in early to avoid additional fees and fines as I am going to be out of town when the inspection is due. Additionally, they advised me to have it inspected somewhere else. Hopefully they did a good job on the oil change. It wasn't a bad experience, but now I've got to put more time and money in to do this simple thing. read more

I found this place about 2 yrs ago when I lived in apartments nearby. They had good reviews and I could walk home if I needed to leave my Jeep. I've since moved to Spring Branch area but I still bring my Jeep here. I work in Greenway so it's easy to dropoff in the morning and uber to/from office. They do a great job to get it done same day. Staff is friendly and helpful. I have had many repairs done here and would definitely recommend them. read more

Been here for inspections and a tune up previously. These were done well and in a timely manner. Always dealt with Peter. This time we dealt with Chris. The AC was out. Had to get a new compressor. Was supposed to be done the next day, ended up taking three days. Was told the dealership messed everything up, by sending wrong parts and incomplete parts, and made them run around all over town numerous times. Either way, it is done and the AC is working great! Only problem: dents in the front end of the hood as if someone with strong hands had slammed it closed. My bf called to let them know. Peter offered to correct it at their body shop or anything else to make it right. Just let the employees know to be careful in the future. I appreciated that Peter did try to remedy the situation. Also, the normal old oil change we get down the street vacuums the car, this place doesn't do that. Anyway, the cost came to almost $1,400.00, which wasn't too bad, when I researched the internet said the cost of parts with labor should be anywhere from $800 to $1,150.00. So the final cost was a little over a hundred dollars more than the higher end. read more

I came in for an oil change on April 7 of this year and they informed me that I needed a new battery. I went out and looked at it and it had a lot of buildup around it so I went ahead and bought a brand new battery. I was charged and paid for a new battery and somehow, a mere 3 months later my battery died and I was left stranded. My car is a 2016 model and in great condition. When I took it back to have them replace it I confronted them about whether or not it was a used battery that had been charged, because it should not be dead in 3 months. The receptionist said "sometimes that just happens." Whatever that means. That was my first time here, I've gone to an auto shop by my house for the past 9 years and have never had this issue with my current car and even my older cars that have 150,000+ miles on them. I came here out of convenience because I was in the area and because the yelp reviews seemed promising but that was clearly a mistake. I would hope that in this day in age that women, or just people in general aren't taken advantage of based on the fact that they're not professionals in a particular industry. I recently visited John's Xpress lube for oil and filter service for 2018 Toyota Camry. I was advised to have 4 tire replacement and break replacement with a total cost of $2,000. They recommended Kumho Solus tire. The cost is $156 per tire. After service done, I checked the price range of the same tire on market and found that the cost range for the same specific tire is $110-130. The price in store is 20% higher than that of high end of price range. I went back to the store asking about the price difference. However, I was told that they gave me discount on the break parts that can offset the the cost difference. I am a customer in this store for more than 15 years and never had this issue before. This is all about fair business. I did not request the store to match the lowest price. However, I don't think that the store offers a fair price for the tires that I had. read more

Stopped in with his truck, although it was busy at 7:30 am, we were able to drop off his truck. The engine light had turned on and truck was getting hesitating when it was driven. I received an update a couple of hours. The truck had a few parts replaced and would be ready in the afternoon. After 2:30pm they called me and said truck was ready. We stopped in after 5pm and truck sounds better. Service was good, gave me details on what caused the issue, and did save some money. There is limited parking during the day. Used synthetic oil for the first time so it costs more up front but should be cheaper in the long run. Just a heads up, the guys inside do not wear masks even though they have a sign on the door saying masks are mandatory. When the front desk guy caught me staring after I walked in he put a mask over his mouth leaving his nose exposed! This place has always done good, honest work. Unfortunately, they take very little precautions for COVID. The owners don't wear masks and they don't ask for their patrons to wear them. Female cashier at the front, "Kayla," seems to always have an "I don't care, roll my eyes" attitude. Today she even laughed at me and told me that the mechanics probably didn't even perform the work they were supposed to after charging me $75 to replace my Freon on Saturday June 2nd. The last thing any customer wants is to have someone scoff at them when they come in to get their car checked out. Mid-laugh she also told me that the shop closes at 5pm on Saturdays even thought their own business cards, which are right by the cash register, say their days and hours are "Monday-Saturday 7am-7pm." I used to like this shop and have even recommended it to friends, but I'm not sure about it now. I need to find a new shop to take my car to- I don't trust this one like I used to and the customer service is lacking. read more

This place is ok for oil changes if your car is not so expensive. For repairs, avoid. For years I think, John and his sons, Peter and Chris, were ok. They tried to keep a good line of communication with their customers. Lately, they all act like they hate what their doing and be rather somewhere else. They hired some shady technicians from places like BMW who started to have to say in diagnosis, and it all started going downhill with services you don't need and deceit.
