My husband's belt on his car broke on his way home from work one day. He was stuck, so I looked here on Yelp and saw that Rustys Automotive Repair wasn't too far from where we live and they had some pretty good reviews. So I gave them a call. They seemed very nice on the phone and recommend a wrecker serive that they work with. They gave me the number to the wrecker service and they were quick in going to get my husband and the car. They towed the car to Rusty's. And since it was after hours by that time. Rusty's has a drop box that you can leave your keys in for afterhour drop offs. Since they were so backed up, they let us know that it was going to take them a few days until they could get to the car. They kept their word. As soon as they looked at what had happened, they were very honest and informed my husband that it would cost more to fix the car than it was worth. That kind of honesty is hard to find nowadays. I highly recommend this Repair shop if you want an honest opinion on what is wrong with your car and how much it's going to take a fix it. read more

This is the most phenomenal auto repair shop I've ever been to. I live in the Galleria area and drive 20 minutes west to Wilcrest because it is so worth it. Rusty is kind and fair and does not try to take advantage of his customers. His quotes and fees are always significantly lower than other mechanics. The lobby where you wait is unusually pleasant and clean. It's a big operation but they prioritize customer service. I'm so thankful I was referred to Rusty's. In my opinion this is the only Auto Repair place anyone should ever use. read more

I took my 2012 Honda Accord in to Rusty when the water pump failed. Turns out the pump in my car is extremely rare -- he went through 3 suppliers, sent his wife to the dealership, and overnight shipped from Dallas to get the right part -- He didn't even charge me for the additional cost or hassle of getting it. Rusty is by far the most honest mechanic I have ever worked with -- he solves problems as quickly and affordably as possible and He does it right -- no cutting corners. If you value the trust and accountability of talking with the OWNER every time you walk in or call AND with excellent communication and professionalism -- choose Rusty. I promise you, he is one of the best in Houston. Even a few days later, I was halfway to Austin and broke down with an unrelated issue with my car. I called him -- he gave me genuine and helpful advice even though he knew he wouldn't get paid on this one. He is always in your corner. I got things worked out only because he recommended another mechanic near me. Thanks Rusty! You will always have my business! read more

I've been going to Rusty's since it was originally named Cornerstone Automotive, and I won't go anywhere else. Rusty and his staff are kind and knowledgeable. They have always made me feel welcome and take great care of my car. I highly recommend using this business. read more

Rusty was great! I love giving business to shops that have the owner answering calls, rather than some soulless corporation. It's even better when they do good work, quickly, and for a competitive price. I needed some basic work done on my AC system and after calling around town most shops refused my business entirely because I'd already purchased the part online. Rusty gave me a great quote and I had him do some tire work I'd been putting off too. I was in and out in a few hours and I'll be back if I need anything else! read more

I have been very satisfied with Rusty, his repairs, and recommend him highly. What really sets Rusty apart are the repairs he has not had to make. On 3 occasions I have taken one of my cars to him only to be told the fix was so simple, I could do it myself. It would have been very easy for him to have made the repair himself and charge accordingly. I trust him more because of it read more

I had a busted oil pan last week and immediately drove my car to Rustys automotive. As I drove into the parking lot, the entire team was awaiting my arrival and heard how noisy my engine was because it had lost so much oil. The next morning I received a reasonable quote and asked Rusty to order the necessary parts. It took less than five days to get my car repaired, and I'm back on the streets at a very reasonable price. I'm so happy with the service that I always get from Rusty's automotive. I highly recommend them! read more

First time customer based from your Trusty Yelp reviews. My Mom-in-Law was having trouble with her Camry and Rusty was able to answer a lot of the questions and even went beyond to troubleshoot the car problem. Had a very good experience enough to bring my Acura for an oil change and to give them my business. I will be bringing more car repair work to them and sending friends and family their way! I was referred to Rusty's Automotive by a close friend who knows how picky I am with my cars. Initially I was hesitant to go due to the fact I live so far away. But after my visit I quickly realized that Rusty and his guys are worth the drive. They're awesome and very professional. And they stand behind their work. I can't say that for most shops. An extremely friendly shop! Greater with a smile as I entered. I explained the car problem and within 20 minutes they diagnosed the issue and had me on my way in about an hour. If I didn't want to wait, they would have driven me home. Not a cut-rate shop, but they got the job done right the first time. That's priceless. I'll be back, with hopefully, more routine service. read more

Ok I met this guys because of a battery issue I had! And yesterday June 5th, they did it again!!!! I'm so happy they're there to help me I had a problem with my AC so early in the morning I called, Rusty said I got you and few hours later he called me with the problem and the quote, it was a reasonable amount of money but I'm pretty sure it was a great deal! I said yes and at 6:05pm I was in my car again with my AC up and running (he even waited for me to get there) this guys are the best when it comes to repair and customer service! I'm coming back here forever (even to get my service done) Here's is my previous review of when I met them for the battery: My battery died and I was late for work! So I gave these guys a call and they took good care of me in just 10 minutes! Super good service and also took all the precautions with the covid situation. Thanks again. And thank you Rusty you were awesome! 100% recommended. read more

I went to Rusty's for them to diagnose what went wrong with my back up lights and camera. They were professional, quick, and I found the repair to be reasonably priced. I wound up going back the next week for my state inspection. They were amazing and I highly recommend! read more

First, let me say Rusty is one of the most honest and honorable mechanics I have never met. We have talked on the phone, but I couldn't tell you what h looks like. I'm from Helotes, Texas and was in Houston visiting friends when the alternator went out in our van and left us stranded at a 7/11 until AAA picked us up and took us back to our hotel. I called my cousin who recommended Rusty's shop, so we had it towed over Sunday afternoon and I left the keys with a note. (Our son drove over and picked us up and brought us back home.) I called Monday morning and he said the alternator was bad, the price he quoted was fair and the repair was complete the same day. We picked it up and everything was working normally. Now skip ahead with me three months and the battery light in the van comes back on. I called Rusty, but of course I new he was hours away from Helotes. He gave me the name of a friend of his that owned a garage in San Antonio so I dropped it off. It was the alternator again and Steve at Cornerstone fixed it. Rusty guarantees his work , so he took care of the bill with Steve and we picked up our van. I just want to say that I'm more of a pessimist when it comes to mechanics, but Rusty and his friend Steve proved to me that honest and honorable mechanics still exist. read more

My husband recently passed away I had to get his truck serviced. I remember him telling me about finding a good automotive place to service his truck. I turned on his phone and I saw he booked marked this automotive place so I decided to take his truck here. As I walked in a young lady with a warm smile said hello and Gentleman approached me with a smile and warm energy. I started crying and explained to him I had to get my husband's truck serviced and I wasn't sure what. He seem to know and was very compassion with my concerns. A guest was also waiting for her car and she also had nothing but wonderful things to say about them. read more

Rusty's Automotive, previously Cornerstone Automotive, recently serviced my vehicle for the 2nd time. Since my car is out of warranty, I cannot afford the exorbitant charges from the dealership. Not to mention knowledgeable enough to know what repairs are necessary or not. I appreciate Rusty's honesty and guidance with keeping my Mini running smoothly as long as it can! With both of my service visits, Rusty offered me a loaner to get me to and from work, as well! Everyone needs Rusty's Automotive as their "go to" for piece of mind that this is a top notch operation and loyal business owner! Thank you!!! read more

I am going to 5* because I very much believe this to be an honest mechanic. I had Joe work on my 120K mileage car and I described a myriad of problems I was having. This was on a friday afternoon and he got me in right away. He said he would have to diagnose them which may take a half hour or an hour ($35-$75), it took half. The problem was the waterpump and fixing that also fixed my other problems which all stemmed from that. He could have easily taken me for a very long, expensive ride, but I had my car back that evening and the bill was fair and reasonable for the parts/labor. My parents had a mystery problem with their car as well some time back. They spent a lot of time working on the car to diagnose the bizarre sound and ended up not charging a thing when they figured out it was an obscure recall issue. Again, they could have taken us for a ride but didn't. That's about all I ask for in a mechanic....that and to get the job done which these guys do. read more

These guys have been my go to shop for the past three decades, with absolutely no problems on any repairs, or quotes that came in differently from what was given to me. I've had my first experience with Rusty's Automotive and it was great. If you are in need of auto repair, Rusty's is where you need to go. I immediately felt at ease with Rusty, feeling that he would not try to convince me I needed repairs that were unnecessary. Competence, professionalism, honesty, and friendliness are trademarks of Rusty's Automotive. I highly recommend them. You will find none better! read more

Rusty is the best!!! He is honest as the day is long. He has worked on our vehicles for a year, most recently our son's old Chevy Blazer. We had been having problems with it and he fixed it every time something happened. He recently let us know the transmission was slipping and about to go out. Sure enough, one week later, the transmission was gone. We then took a car to him that we were going to purchase for our son. The Carfax report said the car was in 0 wrecks or accidents. Not only did he discover the car had been wrecked, front and back, but the oil pan was leaking which would have cost us A LOT of money. He saved us from making around an $11,000 mistake and didn't charge us for over looking our car. If you're looking for an honest mechanic who will not do you wrong, then Rusty and Cornerstone Automotive is your place. Love them!!!! read more

This will sound cliche, but I don't leave reviews unless it's really great or really sucks. Cornerstone Automotive is really great, a legitimate automotive mechanic shop that you can trust. My Jeep Wrangler had started to make a rattling noise which I had checked out by another mechanic shop that couldn't pinpoint it. At Cornerstone, I had Eric ride around the block with me so he could hear the sound. They were able to identify the noise in the shop as coming from my heat shield above my muffler that had a broken weld. While they don't weld, they were able to push it up out the way and minimize/stop the sound. They recommended taking it to any muffler shop to patch the weld. They didn't charge me anything to diagnose and correct the issue. To top it all off, this was done during a lunch on a work day and I was able to pick up my car within 1hr. Great, honest mechanic shop. Glad to have finally found my auto shop I can trust! Tip: They have a courtesy car that you can rent for $15 a day. Recommend that you call in advance to verify it's availability. read more

They seem like a decent place. However I took my car in and explained I wanted them to just look over my car and let me know what was going on. They called a few hours later and told me that I had many issues and that it would be $2200 to fix it. As I am on a fixed income that wasn't happening plus my car is no longer being made as it is a 2002. I picked up my car and they waived the fee for the diagnostic. Reason why it's not 5 stars. As I was driving home my car began to shake and make a loud noise that it never did before. I worry they did something to it so that it would have to be repaired. Any mechanic cheap enough to do that will never have my business. Thanks for looking and making it worse. read more

These guys have worked on my Audi a few times now. Rusty is a super-friendly and helpful guy and always gets me taken care of. I am a "car guy," and do some checking around before allowing repairs to be done on my car because "we found something wrong." I have every reason to believe that these guys are honest and charge a fair price. They also had to redo something for me one time -- totally stood behind their work and warrantied it...paid nothing the 2nd time around. read more

First time here for an oil change. Staff was courteous and friendly, the place was clean, and the oil change took about half an hour which was just enough time for my son and I to walk around the corner and grab a quick bite while waiting. read more

I took my car in for inspection and was told by Rusty I had several engine oil leaks such as a leaking valve cover gasket and it would cost $1,000 or more to fix the leaks. I was shocked at the price estimate so I got a second opinion elsewhere. They said I had only two leaks, both at the valve cover gasket and they replaced them both for $225, not the $1,000 plus Rusty told me. I am 82 years old and disabled and Rusty must have thought I was too old and trusting to know he was trying to overcharge me. I am writing this so other people will beware of over charging at Rusty's. Also, Rusty has replied on here that I asked not to be contacted by a business owner. I never said that, I never mentioned anything like that. But what he wrote is a good idea about not letting a business owner contact a customer because Rusty has proved himself to be untrustworthy and I would not want to have anything to do with him. There is no reason for me to ever speak with him as he mentions in his reply here! He tried to overcharge me and I escaped him. A Nissan service man replaced my valve cover gaskets and he does not over charge like Rusty. My comment is just to warn other people to get second opinions anywhere they go and feel they are being overcharged. I am glad I did! I saved $775. And Jesse IS my nickname. read more

Kept returning for a while to this shop, but felt like I was getting a long list of things that needed to be done. Had to return a couple times for them to fix little things from previous work as well. My car has 163,000 miles, so at that point I just don't want to put a lot of $ into it. Tried another shop that's I've been happy with. read more

I've been bringing our autos to Cornerstone since 1994 when we first moved to this area. I've always been quoted labor\parts estimate before any work was started. I've never had to return for an unsolved issue. Rusty and the techs have always done a great job for us. The work has always been completed on time and to our satisfaction every time. We'll be moving to a new area of Houston in a month but we will always return to Cornerstone for any auto repairs. read more

Gave up thousands of dollars worth of business because they won't give a quote without bringing the vehicle in. Go figure.

I called and was given a preliminary quote for work that was in line with other quotes for the same work. I had my car towed there and dropped off after hours after being told that they would call me in the morning to confirm the cost before any work would be done. The following morning I called them at 1100 to verify if they had received my car and if they had confirmed the problem. I was told that they had diagnosed the problem by 0900, but not called, and that the total for the work would be essentially twice the quoted value (initially told $200-300, then confirmed at $510) I found this to be a very dishonest approach, and unfortunately cost me both time and money to have my car towed to a different facility which completed the work for $300. read more

super friendly with fast service! i got an oil change & inspection and was very pleased with my visit. will definitely return!

This place is great. I always receive great service and have been coming here for years. They are honest, friendly and do high quality work! I lost my wedding band and knew it was under the front car seat but just couldn't find it. I asked Eric if they could remove the seat and they did and found it! It was well worth the reasonable fee they charged to do it. The dealership would have been five times higher in price. Thank you Eric and Rusty for everything ! I really appreciate all of the good work you do! read more

I cannot say enough about the wonderful service we received at Cornerstone! They were nothing short of a blessing. It requires a bit of a backstory. I am not from Houston but was in a wedding there this past weekend and I was sober driving a friend's car Saturday night after the rehearsal dinner. I didn't see a curb as I made a turn and it popped both tires. We weren't sure what other damage had been done. We got a tow and the nearest auto shop was Cornerstone. We were due back in Dallas on Monday for work after the wedding Sunday and headed to the shop at 7 am Monday morning. Rusty greeted us with a smile and had already looked at my friend's car and knew our situation. He was so kind and very reassuring and let us know he would get us taken care of first thing so we could get on the road. No less than 3 hours later he gave us a call that the car was ready! He had found a near perfect match for the tires and got them from Discount Tires for us, realigned the car (because that is a must after ramming into a curb!) and the whole thing was shockingly reasonable. Rusty even replaced the battery in my friend's car remote for free! Thank you so much Rusty. These guys are so honest, thorough and kind. Highly recommend. read more
