He was stuck, so I looked here on Yelp and saw that Rustys Automotive Repair wasn't too far from where we live and they had some pretty good reviews. So I gave them a call. They seemed very nice on the phone and recommend a wrecker serive that they work with. They gave me the number to the wrecker service and they were quick in going to get my husband and the car. They towed the car to Rusty's. And since it was after hours by that time. Rusty's has a drop box that you can leave your keys in for afterhour drop offs. Since they were so backed up, they let us know that it was going to take them a few days until they could get to the car. They kept their word. As soon as they looked at what had happened, they were very honest and informed my husband that it would cost more to fix the car than it was worth. That kind of honesty is hard to find nowadays. This is the most phenomenal auto repair shop I've ever been to. I live in the Galleria area and drive 20 minutes west to Wilcrest because it is so worth it. Rusty is kind and fair and does not try to take advantage of his customers. His quotes and fees are always significantly lower than other mechanics. Ok I met this guys because of a battery issue I had! And yesterday June 5th, they did it again!!!! I'm so happy they're there to help me I had a problem with my AC so early in the morning I called, Rusty said I got you and few hours later he called me with the problem and the quote, it was a reasonable amount of money but I'm pretty sure it was a great deal! I said yes and at 6:05pm I was in my car again with my AC up and running (he even waited for me to get there) this guys are the best when it comes to repair and customer service! First, let me say Rusty is one of the most honest and honorable mechanics I have never met. We have talked on the phone, but I couldn't tell you what h looks like. I'm from Helotes, Texas and was in Houston visiting friends when the alternator went out in our van and left us stranded at a 7/11 until AAA picked us up and took us back to our hotel. I called my cousin who recommended Rusty's shop, so we had it towed over Sunday afternoon and I left the keys with a note. (Our son drove over and picked us up and brought us back home.) I called Monday morning and he said the alternator was bad, the price he quoted was fair and the repair was complete the same day. We picked it up and everything was working normally. Now skip ahead with me three months and the battery light in the van comes back on. I called Rusty, but of course I new he was hours away from Helotes. He gave me the name of a friend of his that owned a garage in San Antonio so I dropped it off. It was the alternator again and Steve at Cornerstone fixed it. Rusty guarantees his work , so he took care of the bill with Steve and we picked up our van. I am going to 5* because I very much believe this to be an honest mechanic. I had Joe work on my 120K mileage car and I described a myriad of problems I was having. This was on a friday afternoon and he got me in right away. He said he would have to diagnose them which may take a half hour or an hour ($35-$75), it took half. The problem was the waterpump and fixing that also fixed my other problems which all stemmed from that. He could have easily taken me for a very long, expensive ride, but I had my car back that evening and the bill was fair and reasonable for the parts/labor. My parents had a mystery problem with their car as well some time back. They spent a lot of time working on the car to diagnose the bizarre sound and ended up not charging a thing when they figured out it was an obscure recall issue. Again, they could have taken us for a ride but didn't. That's about all I ask for in a mechanic....that and to get the job done which these guys do. read more

Rusty is the best!!! He is honest as the day is long. He has worked on our vehicles for a year, most recently our son's old Chevy Blazer. We had been having problems with it and he fixed it every time something happened. He recently let us know the transmission was slipping and about to go out. Sure enough, one week later, the transmission was gone. We then took a car to him that we were going to purchase for our son. The Carfax report said the car was in 0 wrecks or accidents. Not only did he discover the car had been wrecked, front and back, but the oil pan was leaking which would have cost us A LOT of money. He saved us from making around an $11,000 mistake and didn't charge us for over looking our car. They seem like a decent place. However I took my car in and explained I wanted them to just look over my car and let me know what was going on. They called a few hours later and told me that I had many issues and that it would be $2200 to fix it. As I am on a fixed income that wasn't happening plus my car is no longer being made as it is a 2002. I picked up my car and they waived the fee for the diagnostic. Reason why it's not 5 stars. As I was driving home my car began to shake and make a loud noise that it never did before. I worry they did something to it so that it would have to be repaired. Any mechanic cheap enough to do that will never have my business. Thanks for looking and making it worse. read more

This will sound cliche, but I don't leave reviews unless it's really great or really sucks. Cornerstone Automotive is really great, a legitimate automotive mechanic shop that you can trust. My Jeep Wrangler had started to make a rattling noise which I had checked out by another mechanic shop that couldn't pinpoint it. At Cornerstone, I had Eric ride around the block with me so he could hear the sound. They were able to identify the noise in the shop as coming from my heat shield above my muffler that had a broken weld. While they don't weld, they were able to push it up out the way and minimize/stop the sound. They recommended taking it to any muffler shop to patch the weld. They didn't charge me anything to diagnose and correct the issue. To top it all off, this was done during a lunch on a work day and I was able to pick up my car within 1hr. Great, honest mechanic shop. Glad to have finally found my auto shop I can trust! Tip: They have a courtesy car that you can rent for $15 a day. Recommend that you call in advance to verify it's availability. read more

I took my car in for inspection and was told by Rusty I had several engine oil leaks such as a leaking valve cover gasket and it would cost $1,000 or more to fix the leaks. I was shocked at the price estimate so I got a second opinion elsewhere. They said I had only two leaks, both at the valve cover gasket and they replaced them both for $225, not the $1,000 plus Rusty told me. I am 82 years old and disabled and Rusty must have thought I was too old and trusting to know he was trying to overcharge me. I am writing this so other people will beware of over charging at Rusty's. Also, Rusty has replied on here that I asked not to be contacted by a business owner. I never said that, I never mentioned anything like that. But what he wrote is a good idea about not letting a business owner contact a customer because Rusty has proved himself to be untrustworthy and I would not want to have anything to do with him. There is no reason for me to ever speak with him as he mentions in his reply here! He tried to overcharge me and I escaped him. A Nissan service man replaced my valve cover gaskets and he does not over charge like Rusty.My comment is just to warn other people to get second opinions anywhere they go and feel they are being overcharged. I've never had to return for an unsolved issue. Rusty and the techs have always done a great job for us. The work has always been completed on time and to our satisfaction every time. I called and was given a preliminary quote for work that was in line with other quotes for the same work. I had my car towed there and dropped off after hours after being told that they would call me in the morning to confirm the cost before any work would be done. The following morning I called them at 1100 to verify if they had received my car and if they had confirmed the problem. I was told that they had diagnosed the problem by 0900, but not called, and that the total for the work would be essentially twice the quoted value (initially told $200-300, then confirmed at $510) I found this to be a very dishonest approach, and unfortunately cost me both time and money to have my car towed to a different facility which completed the work for $300. read more

I cannot say enough about the wonderful service we received at Cornerstone! They were nothing short of a blessing. It requires a bit of a backstory. I am not from Houston but was in a wedding there this past weekend and I was sober driving a friend's car Saturday night after the rehearsal dinner. I didn't see a curb as I made a turn and it popped both tires. We weren't sure what other damage had been done. We got a tow and the nearest auto shop was Cornerstone. We were due back in Dallas on Monday for work after the wedding Sunday and headed to the shop at 7 am Monday morning. Rusty greeted us with a smile and had already looked at my friend's car and knew our situation. He was so kind and very reassuring and let us know he would get us taken care of first thing so we could get on the road. No less than 3 hours later he gave us a call that the car was ready! He had found a near perfect match for the tires and got them from Discount Tires for us, realigned the car (because that is a must after ramming into a curb!) and the whole thing was shockingly reasonable.
