One of the best auto repair experiences I have had! I live in Austin and was visiting family in Houston over the Easter weekend. I realized Saturday that my rear brakes were shot. Had metal on metal (brake pad to rotor) making a grinding noise and tearing up the rotor. Definitely not safe to drive back to Austin. Did a google search and found Chris Auto Repair, and saw that he does mobile repairs. He had all 5 star reviews and some very nice compliments from other customers. I called and texted him and he got back with me. I gave him the details of my vehicle and he gave me a quote to replace the rear brakes that was very reasonable. He only charged me what the parts cost, and then his labor. He would have come out on Easter Sunday to do the job, but since it might rain, we agreed on Monday morning. He arrived when he said he would with all the parts needed. He gave me the Auto Zone receipt for the parts. He also texted me when he was on the way. He explained why the parts he got were the best choice for my truck. As he was working, he explained the steps he was taking, and why they were necessary to make sure the brakes would work properly for a long time. He completed the job in about an hour. He is very friendly and very knowledgeable in auto repair. Him coming to the house was a HUGE convenience, compared with taking it to a shop and leaving it probably all day and having to do ride share two ways. We needed to have the transmission fluid flushed and replaced. After coming to the house to look at our 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan, he told us it was a "sealed" system and he would need to get another part. He went to the auto shop and sent the receipts for the cost. He is reasonably priced on his labor and it was very convenient for him to come to our house. The only reason I'm giving 4 stars is because he said he would be at our house in the afternoon but didn't show up until after 6pm. He got the job done and I'm very happy about that! I hate having to revise my review, but I've had so many problems with the things Chris has worked on that I couldn't avoid it. By the way, this is my third BMW and my sixth German car and this BMW is exactly like one I've had before, identical, and never had these kind of problems. First thing, he doesn't have a garage. He worked on my brakes, that was the first job, in the middle of a parking lot. I get it, it's expensive to have a space, but I feel like maybe with a private space where there isn't a feeling of having to rush to get out of public working on a car and maybe with more advanced tools that normally don't fit in your car, this might've turned out a little bit differently. So my brakes were fine until they started squealing all the time, almost from the beginning they made noise, constant noise. It drove me crazy. Now 11 months later (and maybe 15K miles) and I'm having to completely redo my brakes again. At minimum I should've gotten 30,000 miles on the cheapest brakes. Whatever. That's fine, I don't mind getting new brakes but it seems a little soon and I don't think I should've heard my brakes make noise every time I drove. Anyway, the second part is the most problematic. I needed a wastegate actuator for my car so, an interest of saving a little money, I got the part off of Amazon. I had gotten the codes for the check engine light and it was the actuator so I looked up everything I could about it to see if maybe my son could fix it for me. It wasn't possible because the actuator arm needs to be calibrated. Chris did not know this. I had to tell him and send him a video. He fixed the actuator and I thought everything was fine but then I started having the same problems again. He came and looked at it brought a new part and was going to charge me to replace it again, but turns out it was his fault that it wasn't working. Fast-forward six months later my actuator is bad again. I asked Chris if he calibrated it and he said he did but in researching it he couldn't have because he put this part on in about 45 minutes and with installation and calibration it's about three hours. He keeps insisting that he calibrated it, but it's also not possible to because he doesn't have the scanner with the BMW proprietary software. I read around and it's about $2500 a year so it's basically for BMW shops which is not him. So he lied to me and my actuator is not calibrated so I have to get a new one have it put on and calibrated six months after he did it. That's a lot of money. He's also very slow to respond and has been ever since I met him. Nothing is urgent unless I say I have to do this now because my car is not going to run. At any rate, if you have a German car I would not trust someone who has not been certified to work on it. I'm sure Fords and Chevys are fine, but I wouldn't let him work on my BMW again. So I'm out a lot of money, he thinks it's the Amazon part, and refuses to take responsibility for not calibrating my part. By the way, he said it wouldn't work if it wasn't calibrated, but that's not true, the BMW will try to calibrate itself until it can't and that's where we are now. Anyway, this is unfortunate, but I really should have taken it to someone more professional. Lesson learned. read more

He was quick to respond to my request and eager to help! He was willing to meet me at my hotel in the morning as I was unable to move my car anywhere and he even got the parts for me and gave me a very reasonable price! The job ended up taking longer than expected at no fault of his and he did not appear frustrated or annoyed throughout the entire process. Part came in and have been trying to contact to schedule to come back out and install - no answer. I now had the part suggested by this mechanic replaced and the car still does not start.
