This place is awesome. I had time to kill while doing business down the street so I walked in for a bite around lunch time. Ask about their sandwiches! I got a saucisson, beurre, and cornichon. It was great. The baguette is so good. They were very nice too. The young fellow who helped me ask if it was my first time there. I got a pain au chocolat and an iced coffee. The pastry was flakey & buttery. They served quickly even with a bit of a line. More of a grab & go experience because there is limited seating. Go on a nice day and you can enjoy your order on one of the benches nearby. read more

We were on the road, I did a search for lunch in Greenwich, and found Raphael's. I'm a sucker for family owned businesses anyhow, but I was so glad that we found them! They greeted us, could tell that we were first timers and gave us a complementary sample of choquettes. So fluffy and delicious. We ended up with two sandwiches - the baguette is what mattered here and wow, perfect. The insides were good too, but the star was the bread. Had to get a chocolate chip cookie too - crispy and soft and the chocolate somehow melted just perfectly despite not having been warmed up. The gentleman working the counter even recommended a local park nearby to eat at. We'll be stopping on the way home too. read more

If you want a true French experience, walk no further than to Raphael's Bakery. I purchased a coffee, a coffee eclair, a baguette, Kouign-Amman and a sourdough loaf. Each is delicious. The service was outstanding. The staff was caring and attentive. The ambiance was very French, down to my take-out coffee cup which was bright orange and had rubbed edges to prevent spillage. Very unimpressed by this place. The woman manning the register reached into a case to retrieve my pastry with a gloved hand with no paper, then proceeded to use both hands to handle money and check me out, rendering the glove as effective as a bare hand. As for the atmosphere, it was ruined by the family that thought it acceptable to let their children run wild screaming like banshees in the close confines of the restaurant as they sat on benches outside and stared blankly. After an hour of constant running in and out, one of the workers closed the front door to prevent further intrusion, but it was too little too late. read more

I don't like bread (blasphemy I know), but I LOVE this bakery! Everything tastes soo good that I come back on a bi-weekly basis. There's always a line to get in, but everyone is patient and it goes by quickly. I'm hesitant to tell you my favorite things as it always seems to run out early. I am beyond ecstatic that this bakery opened in Greenwich. These baguettes are perfect, authentic, more often then not hot from the oven, and absolutely delicious. I have been waiting for a place like this to open in our neighborhood and if the past week is any indication, I will be stopping by almost daily. The crust and crumb are exactly what you want from a baguette and it takes all my willpower not to finish one before I get it home. As a service to you all (wink), I have additionally sampled nearly everything else on offer. There hasn't been a miss yet. I am especially impressed that they don't go overboard on the sugar. The palmiers and tartes aux pommes are lightly sweet, allowing the pastry to shine. The brioche au sucre have just enough sugar to sweeten, and not enough to overpower. The croissants and pains au chocolat are rich and buttery. Don't forget to grab a chouquette for the drive home. I'm looking forward to trying the rest of the offerings and can't wait to see what they add next. Please do yourselves a favor and stop in as soon as you can. We ordered 2 birthday cakes: Fraisier and Saint honoré ! I tried to upload the pictures, but some reason it is not working. Both delicious and beautiful ! We also tried their pain au chocolat, croissant, pain au raisin, cookies, éclair au chocolat et au café.... everything was delicious! The owners are extremely nice and friendly. Even my kids could not believe how nice they were and kept wanting to come back just to talk a little bit in French :) It is a shame we don't live Closer but we will be back! read more

I wish I could give them 10 stars. The most delicious sandwich on a freshly baked baguette of perfect texture. The premade sandwich had some dressing that I didn't like (I'm super picky), so they made me my own one fresh just to my liking. They gave me a chocolate to taste while I wait, and my coffee came with a delictable puff pastry. Customer service at it's finest. A true family run business. They just acquired a customer for life. I am a local resident and really like good bread. There is no better baguette available than at Raphael's. It has a good crust, the interior is soft but chewy and has an excellent flavor. The aroma is wonderful and starts at the parking lot. I have never had a baguette which exudes the original baking aroma when reheated, this one does. The croissant is fresh, flaky and buttery.
